Alive in the Atacama Desert

"When I finally left the desert, windswept and sunburned, I made for Santiago with a wistful feeling. I entered the Castillo Rojo, a wonderful ’20s-era mansion-turned-boutique hotel in the heart of the city, and sipped a glass of red wine." - Mitchell Friedman

The Hotel Boutique Castillo Rojo is located in the heart of Bella Vista, possibly the most lively barrio in Santiago. A safe neighbourhood with lots of restaurant and bars. it is very walkable and close enough to the Metro. The hotel feel more like a cosy bed and breakfast and after several stays here I feel like its my home away from home in Santiago. The staff are very friendly, helpful and always willing to go the extra mile. The 5:00pm drinks in the lounge is very social and a great way to meet other guests and to exchange information. The rooms are very well appointed, comfortable and have very comfortable beds

Enchanting in every respect. Lau and the Castillo Rojo team are amazing. They helped me plan multiple journeys around the city including historic downtown, little Italy, Cerro San Cristobal, and LaStarria. My room was quiet and I slept like a dream. The breakfast was next level, like being in a charming French cafe every morning. Would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be back on my next trip to STGO.

The hotel building is an historic building and it is decorated to reflect its history. Our room was spotless . Towels were thick , bed was co for table and breakfast delicious. The daily happy hour in the lounge with complimentary wine allowed guests to mingle and have a chat if they wanted.

This charming boutique hotel is centrally located in Santiago and boasts a friendly, knowledgeable staff. A daily cocktail hour provides a wonderful opportunity for guests to connect. The surrounding neighborhood is very walkable, with plenty of shops and restaurants nearby.

We enjoyed a 4-night stay here and would certainly return. The beds are comfortable, the rooms are clean, the staff is incredibly helpful and responsive, and the location is central to sights and restaurants. We didn't rent a car and managed just fine, plus the wonderful concierge arranged tours for us. Most of the staff spoke some English, which was helpful for us. There's a 24-hour lounge with coffee, tea, and water, and a daily wine hour. Our balcony room was delightful.||Four stars instead of five for two reasons--the rooms are TINY (very little space for a couple to put clothes away), and on our third night, the hotel hosted a wedding in the courtyard outside. Weddings are fine, of course, but the music was so loud *inside* our room that we had to go out for a very late dinner just to wait the party out. Elsewhere in the hotel, the music wasn't nearly as obnoxious, but be aware that if you do get a balcony room, you might find yourself fighting the noise!

How to special to stay in an updated and modern 100 yr castle. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again. The location was great walking distance from restaurants and the Funicular. We booked a room with a King Size bed and a balcony. It was spacious, nicely appointed, very clean. It was in the fourth floor with no elevators. It was not a problem for us. The bed was comfortable, there were reading lights, the linens were nice (not too thin or rough), the bathroom had plenty of surfaces for toiletries, had a large shower stall and plenty of hot water at a nice pressure. We had the option of not having the room serviced for the 4 days we were there. We also stay in AirBnBs and sometimes like to be left alone. The staff was at the ready to replenish anything we needed. We loved the second floor lounge with comfortable sofas, complimentary wine happy hour at 5, coffee all day, hot water and a variety of teas 24 hrs. The breakfast was complimentary with cold and hot breakfast options in a pleasant room with windows. And the staff was very kind, helpful and very nice, always. Gracias amigos! It was priced well. Great value. I recommend this place without hesitation.

Staff were super communicative, flexible and helpful. Room was a bit small but had everything we needed, including a very comfortable bed. Close to many cafes, restaurants, attractions. Including Pablo Neruda’s house! Complimentary wine in the afternoon was a delightful way to meet other hotel guests. Breakfast garden setting and food offerings were lovely & delicious. A bit difficult to find the entrance - but stay with it. It’s so worth it!

I stayed at the hotel for just two days at the end of a trip, but I wished I could have stayed a bit longer. I enjoyed staying in this beautiful historic building that has been well-cared for and sensitively adapted as a hotel. My room was good-sized and very clean, the bed was comfortable, and I liked all of the historic details. ||I was tired from my other travels in Chile and it was raining when I arrived, so I had a quiet late afternoon / night, making a visit to the nearby Pablo Neruda house museum (do not miss it!), enjoying the wine hour before dashing out for a quick bite to eat (which the staff recommended as a place for a good, quick, nearby meal), and then tucking into bed with with a book. It was Saturday night and there was a wedding in the courtyard, which I could hear, even through the insulated glazing in the windows of my room, but I was so tired, I easily fell asleep. I see other reviews have called attention to this type of noise; but honestly, it comes with the choice of staying in the very active Bella Vista neighborhood. I did not find it too much! And the following night was very quiet.||The staff was very friendly and helpful. And the breakfasts were delicious and the room they were served in was just lovely.||I also booked airport transfers through the hotel and it worked out very well.||If back in Santiago, I would stay at the Hotel Boutique Castillo Rojo again.

Yelp
We stayed at "El Castillo Rojo" in Santiago (Chile) for one day on our journey to Patagonia. And yes, yes, yes we loved this place with its unique ambiance, spacious rooms and awesome breakfast. Super professional front desk service and then there is Sebastian. Hahaha, what a character! If he is still around by the time you get there, you will understand why he is worth to be mentioned in this post. Overall, this "Red Castle" will mark positive Chilean memories for you, of that I am sure. Enjoy!

Yelp
Stayed in this hotel for a couple of nights while visiting Santiago for a family engagement. It used to be a real castle! It comes with breakfast downstairs in the morning, fresh and convenient. The restaurant and hotel have a little cute courtyard. The staff was very helpful at all times! The hotel has a lobby extension on the first floor with a complimentary hotel guests wine hour every night at 5 PM which is super relaxing! You can walk out to the balcony and watch people walk by on the plaza while sipping on your libation. The lobby also has free coffee for hotel guests through out the day which is very convenient! The room we stayed at had a very comfortable bed and very interesting (historic) decor.

Yelp
My friend Joe recommended this boutique hotel because of its location near restaurants and shops. The bed was comfortable, the room was immaculate and spacious, the bathroom bright and spotless. I spent US$127 for one night and paid an extra US$45 to extend my checkout until 5pm, as my flight was not until 8:30 pm. I enjoyed its proximity to numerous restaurants and shops. I had dinner at Barrica 94 and lunch at Azul Profundo; both were excellent. I will stay here again the next time I am in Santiago.

Yelp
This boutique hotel feels just like home, maybe because it used to be one. In this hip area this is the best choice. Set just a few steps away from the chaos that can be Constitution and is Pio Nono, it is perfectly situated. It is extremely comfortable and the staff and services are outstanding!!

Yelp
First time visiting Chile. Staying in Santiago there is only one place to stay and that is Castillo Rojo. Located in the midde of it all shopping, dining and the Bohemia of Santiago. This quaint Castle turned into a 19 room boutique hotel each room with its own personality. Beautifully decorated and so much thought given to the littlest of details. My wife and I are having a second honeymoon. We love it, love it, love it. We highly recommend. Staff is great and personable. Looking forward to coming back again..
