Alive in the Atacama Desert

"When I finally left the desert, windswept and sunburned, I made for Santiago with a wistful feeling. I entered the Castillo Rojo, a wonderful ’20s-era mansion-turned-boutique hotel in the heart of the city, and sipped a glass of red wine." - Mitchell Friedman

"The Castillo Rojo is a landmark you might already recognize if you’ve ever been to Santiago. Not only is it an eye-catcher of a building — stately and vermillion-hued — but it’s located a block away from Pablo Neruda’s one-time urban residence, La Chascona, in the lovely and tourist-popular neighborhood of Bellavista. It’s the kind of building you’d stand in front of and wonder about, looking it up on your guidebook map, probably without a satisfying resolution. But that was up until recently, when the house was turned into the Castillo Rojo Boutique Hotel." - Tablet Hotels

Throughly enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The breakfasts were delicious and a pleasant way to begin the day.|Staff, all go out of their way to help and make your stay as comfortable as possible.||The linen was excellent cotton, and the room I had was comfortable.||The location is great being where there are plenty of local restaurants. I felt safe in this area.||Being originally a house of over 100 years old, the only downside imo is the noise from other guests. You can also hear the music from outside, but that is generally pleasant.

Castillo Rojo is situated in a nice neighborhood, with multiple restaurants within walking distance. The atmosphere is warm yet sophisticated. It isn’t just the architecture and the beautiful interior design but above all, the staff! They are professional and friendly, they go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. We stayed there on 3 occasions, so this will tell you how I feel about this place

One of the best places to stay. It is cozy and unpretentious. Each room is themed. We stayed there 3 times (three different rooms). The staff is so accommodating. I was sad to leave. Will stay there again if we are in the area. Oh, and very convenient location with variety of restaurants.

A absolutely fantastic few days in Santiago. Great neighborhood, great restaurants, walkable, fun, mixing old and new. The hotel was great. Fantastic wine hour upstairs in the beautiful room with plush couches and lovely added touches. Safe area, just loved it. Wonderful Breakfast!

Right in Providencia, very easy to spot and has free parking on the back street if you contact the WhatsApp number. Very attentive staff who strive to make your visit comfortable. Really cool concept of free wine hour 5 to 6 PM where they encourage guests from all over the world to connect as if it was a hostel. Super clean as well! Bed was basically a squishy cloud and I was carried off into a wondrous slumber. In the morning we were treated to a lovely made-to-order breakfast that was better than continental!

Beautiful, upgraded room. Amazingly friendly staff, who were so knowledgeable about the history of the hotel and helpful for providing recommendations. Stunning, historical hotel with many little perks. It all made my stay perfect. Loved this hotel and would stay there again in a heartbeat!

We started and ended our Chilean wine adventure with the amazing team at Castillo Rojo, in their amazing boutique hotel. Alexander, Erica, Luan and Auto went above and beyond getting us settled and accommodating us during our stay in this historic, well appointed and comfortable boutique hotel. From its striking red exterior, amazing, one of a kind rooms and world class cafe (breakfast included and a hosted wine soirée in the lounge every afternoon from 6 - 7) to our own unique rooms (each one different, well appointed, comfortable and best water pressure of the trip) to gated, secure parking, it was a wonderful welcome to Santiago. It is also walking distance to Pablo Neruda’s house (and museum), the San Cristobal funicular, a host of restaurants, a small shopping center, parks and the Plaza de Armas (and El Portal, the completo shop across the street). We managed all of this in just two days visiting…we can’t wait to go back and spend even more time. It was an easy two hour drive from here to the Colchagua Valley vinyards…we will be back for more. And though the amazing historic hotel has no elevator (we stayed on the third and fourth floors, respectively between our two visits), Auto and Alexander were up to the task of delivering our bags to our rooms (I am 65 and my wife is 62…both in decent shape…but still very appreciative for the assistance with my wife’s bag which was 28 kilos and our wine suitcase, which by the end of our trip, weighted 22 kilos). I strongly recommend Castillo Rojo! Like I said, we will be back.

Once housekeeping issues were settled, loved this hotel. Location is wonderful, it is quiet with many good restaurants nearby. THERE IS NO ELEVATOR! Wine hour is a nice touch.

Yelp
We stayed at "El Castillo Rojo" in Santiago (Chile) for one day on our journey to Patagonia. And yes, yes, yes we loved this place with its unique ambiance, spacious rooms and awesome breakfast. Super professional front desk service and then there is Sebastian. Hahaha, what a character! If he is still around by the time you get there, you will understand why he is worth to be mentioned in this post. Overall, this "Red Castle" will mark positive Chilean memories for you, of that I am sure. Enjoy!

Yelp
Stayed in this hotel for a couple of nights while visiting Santiago for a family engagement. It used to be a real castle! It comes with breakfast downstairs in the morning, fresh and convenient. The restaurant and hotel have a little cute courtyard. The staff was very helpful at all times! The hotel has a lobby extension on the first floor with a complimentary hotel guests wine hour every night at 5 PM which is super relaxing! You can walk out to the balcony and watch people walk by on the plaza while sipping on your libation. The lobby also has free coffee for hotel guests through out the day which is very convenient! The room we stayed at had a very comfortable bed and very interesting (historic) decor.

Yelp
My friend Joe recommended this boutique hotel because of its location near restaurants and shops. The bed was comfortable, the room was immaculate and spacious, the bathroom bright and spotless. I spent US$127 for one night and paid an extra US$45 to extend my checkout until 5pm, as my flight was not until 8:30 pm. I enjoyed its proximity to numerous restaurants and shops. I had dinner at Barrica 94 and lunch at Azul Profundo; both were excellent. I will stay here again the next time I am in Santiago.

Yelp
This boutique hotel feels just like home, maybe because it used to be one. In this hip area this is the best choice. Set just a few steps away from the chaos that can be Constitution and is Pio Nono, it is perfectly situated. It is extremely comfortable and the staff and services are outstanding!!

Yelp
First time visiting Chile. Staying in Santiago there is only one place to stay and that is Castillo Rojo. Located in the midde of it all shopping, dining and the Bohemia of Santiago. This quaint Castle turned into a 19 room boutique hotel each room with its own personality. Beautifully decorated and so much thought given to the littlest of details. My wife and I are having a second honeymoon. We love it, love it, love it. We highly recommend. Staff is great and personable. Looking forward to coming back again..
