Alive in the Atacama Desert

"When I finally left the desert, windswept and sunburned, I made for Santiago with a wistful feeling. I entered the Castillo Rojo, a wonderful ’20s-era mansion-turned-boutique hotel in the heart of the city, and sipped a glass of red wine." - Mitchell Friedman

Hotel Boutique Castillo Rojo (Santiago, Chile) 2 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The Castillo Rojo is a landmark you might already recognize if you’ve ever been to Santiago. Not only is it an eye-catcher of a building — stately and vermillion-hued — but it’s located a block away from Pablo Neruda’s one-time urban residence, La Chascona, in the lovely and tourist-popular neighborhood of Bellavista. It’s the kind of building you’d stand in front of and wonder about, looking it up on your guidebook map, probably without a satisfying resolution. But that was up until recently, when the house was turned into the Castillo Rojo Boutique Hotel." - Tablet Hotels

My husband and I stayed for two nights December 10-12. Out of the 4 hotels we stayed at on our trip to Chile, this was by far the best. The front desk staff was bi-lingual and very helpful. Veronica, Andy, and another gentleman whose name escapes me, went out of their way to book us reservations, give us advice, and just make it a great experience. The room was elegant and cozy. Best bed and bedding on this trip. We stayed up a few flights of stairs (no elevator) in room 13. The wine area on level 2 was great, and we loved the location close to the park, Bella Vista patio, and some great food options. We enjoyed Galindo’s and El Meson Nerudiano a lot! The included breakfast was also great. We are planning on staying again when we come back to Chile. Thanks!

Castillo Rojo offers a warm, stylish, and wonderful stay in Chile. .The rooms were exceptionally clean, and the hotel’s quiet atmosphere made it easy to relax and enjoy a truly restful time. It is perfectly located near restaurants, bars, and cultural attractions, making it easy to explore the city. The staff are exceptionally kind and welcoming. Erica and Alvaro were especially helpful, offering great advice on what to see, how to get around, and assisting with arranging activities and transportation. The hotel’s design is impeccable and thoughtfully done, creating a space that is both comfortable and visually beautiful. Highly recommend a visit!

Very charming, comfortable, and perfectly located, with delicious included breakfast. The beds and comfortable and the thick walls and shades mean a good night sleep. There’s a daily ‘wine hour’ and it’s quite social—a mix of people stay here, but while I was visiting it felt like a New England book club reunion.

Great location and beautiful hotel just steps away from Pablo Neruda’s house. The courtyard is a delightful paradise where we’ve enjoyed breakfast outside every morning. Decor is beautiful and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Staff was very friendly and helpful, especially Erika and Alvaro. A truly unforgettable experience. Would highly recommend when considering where to stay in Santiago.

The staff at Castillo Rojo was super helpful and friendly - really great service orientation. The hotel was charming and the inner patio was a cool place to wind down after traveling that day. The room was spacious and comfortable. The location was good, nestled in a colorful neighborhood with many eateries and near the base of Cerro San Cristobal (a must-visit in Santiago). Didn't check out breakfast as we had a very early departure but they kindly made us a to-go bag! Perfect place to stay!

If I like Santiago, 50% of it comes from this hotel! It is so nicely decorated and stylish. The rooms are very modern and delicate. Hotel staff are very professional, making us feel very safe and welcomed. Highly recommended - it’s one of the best hotels in Chile in our view.

I've just returned from my second stay at Hotel Boutique Castillo Rojo. My first stay was around 2018 and, based upon that first experience, I was eager to return to the hotel with my family. I loved the hotel my first visit because it is well located (in a very popular nightlife area), has a lot of charm, is clean, and provides outstanding service. ||During my first visit, one of the features of the hotel that I particularly appreciated was its safety. The front doors are locked at night and the staff clearly keeps a close eye on the arrivals/departures of guests. The hotel has a huge open-air courtyard, where you can relax at night, just a bit detached from the considerable social activity that occurs just beyond the hotel's gates. Of course, if you want to go out for dinner or for a drink, that option is just meters away too.||I was reminded of the quality of the service when, unfortunately, a member of my family tripped outside of the hotel and needed medical care. Literally a half a dozen passers by offered to help, but we relied upon the hotel staff to recommend a local medical facility. They also offered to call an ambulance, which fortunately we did not require. We were pleased with the quality of the medical facility that the hotel recommended and which was very close to the hotel. The hotel also arranged a follow-up appointment with a specialist when I was not able to make the booking using my mobile phone browser.||Yet again, my only regret in staying at this property is that I didn't stay longer. I travel fairly extensively and it is one of my favorite hotels globally. I like its combination of location, very high quality service and its overall feel, which I would describe as cozy. I did not take advantage of the happy hours this trip, but my family and I really enjoyed the included breakfast.||Drawbacks? On the Saturday night of my visit, I could hear music from a nearby night club. It sounded like a lot of fun and, if they were playing 80s music and if I had not been flying to Australia the following morning, I would have been tempted to join in the party. Those sensitive to noise might ask for a room away from the nightclub (though they might be exposed to other nightlife in a room in the front of the hotel). But I personally had no problems sleeping through the nearby partying and you might not too.||I hope to return soon.

Yelp
We stayed at "El Castillo Rojo" in Santiago (Chile) for one day on our journey to Patagonia. And yes, yes, yes we loved this place with its unique ambiance, spacious rooms and awesome breakfast. Super professional front desk service and then there is Sebastian. Hahaha, what a character! If he is still around by the time you get there, you will understand why he is worth to be mentioned in this post. Overall, this "Red Castle" will mark positive Chilean memories for you, of that I am sure. Enjoy!

Yelp
Stayed in this hotel for a couple of nights while visiting Santiago for a family engagement. It used to be a real castle! It comes with breakfast downstairs in the morning, fresh and convenient. The restaurant and hotel have a little cute courtyard. The staff was very helpful at all times! The hotel has a lobby extension on the first floor with a complimentary hotel guests wine hour every night at 5 PM which is super relaxing! You can walk out to the balcony and watch people walk by on the plaza while sipping on your libation. The lobby also has free coffee for hotel guests through out the day which is very convenient! The room we stayed at had a very comfortable bed and very interesting (historic) decor.

Yelp
My friend Joe recommended this boutique hotel because of its location near restaurants and shops. The bed was comfortable, the room was immaculate and spacious, the bathroom bright and spotless. I spent US$127 for one night and paid an extra US$45 to extend my checkout until 5pm, as my flight was not until 8:30 pm. I enjoyed its proximity to numerous restaurants and shops. I had dinner at Barrica 94 and lunch at Azul Profundo; both were excellent. I will stay here again the next time I am in Santiago.

Yelp
This boutique hotel feels just like home, maybe because it used to be one. In this hip area this is the best choice. Set just a few steps away from the chaos that can be Constitution and is Pio Nono, it is perfectly situated. It is extremely comfortable and the staff and services are outstanding!!

Yelp
First time visiting Chile. Staying in Santiago there is only one place to stay and that is Castillo Rojo. Located in the midde of it all shopping, dining and the Bohemia of Santiago. This quaint Castle turned into a 19 room boutique hotel each room with its own personality. Beautifully decorated and so much thought given to the littlest of details. My wife and I are having a second honeymoon. We love it, love it, love it. We highly recommend. Staff is great and personable. Looking forward to coming back again..
