We found Casa Albets on our motorcycle tour of the Picos/Pyrenees by typing ‘vegetarian-friendly hotels in the Pyrenees’. What an amazing find! We have been missing good vegan food on our trip so far but Casa Albets ticked every box on our wish list. Peace and quiet, ethical approach and absolutely incredible vegan food. Megan and Joel are extremely warm and friendly and the room was huge, beautifully appointed and very, very comfortable with great wifi. ||The approach to Casa Albets is along a 1,9km / 1.2mile gravel track. If you are not an experienced or confident motorcyclist (and you’re on a big bike) then you might find it a little challenging but you shouldn’t let that put you off. It’s not actually that difficult! There are no water crossings or steep hills. A few turns, a little bit up and down and a few little muddy ridges to cross where the water has created some grooves but nothing too arduous if you hold your nerve and take it easy. The gravel is ridged a great deal of the time so you can usually find a previously trodden tyre path! I’m a 60 year old woman riding a BMW K1300R and my husband is 70 and riding a BMW RnineT and we got the bikes there no problem at all (we have both been riding bikes for 40 years though). I would say if you’re nervous, do it anyway, and keep your feet down and go at walking pace. It won’t take long to get there even doing it that way! But otherwise it’s a first gear, slow, gentle brrrrr all the way. Alternatively, if you want a bit of fun you can stand up on the footpegs and give it some gas :0).||Parking is outdoors but plenty of space.||But the main draw is the gastronomic food. Every dish of the 7 dish tasting menu was so beautifully presented and an explosion of taste. So subtle and perfectly combined. The breakfast is amazing as well. Beautifully presented fresh fruit, vegan ‘scrambled egg’ and home made bread and jam. There isn’t a lunch menu, so if you need to eat in the middle of the day (and you don’t want to drive out to one of the beautiful little villages or towns nearby) you should bring a snack or something to keep you going until dinner. But we had such a good breakfast we were fine with a coffee at 3 or 4pm and a packet of organic potato crisps to nibble on which were the only snacks available for sale. ||We don’t have a single negative comment about Casa Albets. It is a real gem, hidden away in the hills. Treat yourself!
