11 Best Hotels in Oaxaca, Mexico for 2025

"On the edges of Oaxaca’s most northern barrios at the foot of the Sierra Norte mountains, you'll find Hotel Casa Santo Origen. The walled compound of this eight-room boutique hotel opens up to alfresco common spaces with an L-shaped infinity pool; you'll also find patios cloistered among fragrant plumeria trees throughout the property. Guest suites are spacious and each has either a balcony or garden views—with several including their own private plunge pool. Entre Sombras is the hotel's on-site restaurant, which forgoes Oaxacan fare in favor of Mediterranean dishes. It features uninterrupted views of the nearby Sierra Norte mountains."

Santo Origen is a gem within Oaxaca, nestled in a quiet neighborhood tucked away from el Centro. Upon arrival, we were greeted with exceptional "at your call" service -- shout outs to Jorge at the restaurant & Diego at the front desk -- and felt like we were right at home. The hotel layout is simple --- pool, restaurant, fire pits, and 8 exquisite rooms -- but has everything you need for a retreat in the hills of Oaxaca. Diego or front desk staff easily arrange cabs to Xochimilco and El Centro, which are very reasonable, when you're ready to explore. When you're ready to relax, Santo Origen has exactly what you need. The on-site restaurant -- Entre Sombras -- has a great breakfast especially, and your view is a 360 view of Oaxaca City and the hills. Highly recommend ten times over & we will be back!

Hotel Casa Santo Origen is a truly exceptional experience, offering the luxury and service of a Michelin-star hotel. The restaurant on-site is one of the best I’ve ever experienced, with exquisite dishes and a beautiful atmosphere. The terrace offers stunning views, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy a meal in peace. The hotel itself is incredibly quiet, providing a serene escape. Additionally, it's located next to a fantastic park, adding to the overall charm of the place. Whether you're here for a stay or a meal, this hotel is a must-visit for its perfect blend of luxury, comfort, and excellent service. Highly recommended!

Wow! My husband and I came here for our honeymoon and it was absolutely fantastic. A quick 15 minute taxi to the city center, we loved the ability to return to our hotel to relax after a day of exploring. Cars and taxis were readily available so there were no issues getting around as needed. The staff was incredible and so friendly. The restaurant was delicious, and there was a great pool as well. 10/10 stars. I can’t wait for our next visit!

This place is incredible. Six stars! One of the most gorgeous small luxury hotels we have ever stayed in. Elegant architecture, stunning rooms, a nice small pool, an excellent restaurant, views over the city and the mountains, and the most friendly and personalized service imaginable. It really is a slice of heaven. Given its location, it might not be ideal for a base for Oaxaca sightseeing but for us it was perfect. We spent four nights in the city, and then came here for three nights of pure relaxation. Leaving early tomorrow and I can hardly bear the thought!

Beautiful stone building, extraordinary staff, an oasis perched above Oaxaca city. This hotel has been on my saved list for years and it did not disappoint. ||We stayed in La Canada room (roughly translated to canyon in Spanish). I had specially selected this room due to the private hot tub on the terrace. We did have to ask them to top it up to cover the jets (felt like that should’ve been done at this price point) but they quickly attended to it. This room is on the top floor over looking part of the city. It was exactly what I wanted for a special get away for my husband’s birthday. One morning we ordered breakfast to the room and loved that, beautiful views and a lovely in room breakfast. ||The onsite restaurant was fabulous, we even cancelled reservations at a fancy place in town for his birthday because we preferred the food and atmosphere of this gem. Their sourdough is incredibly delicious, we even pre ordered a loaf to take with us as we continued our journey; so sweet of them to accommodate. Their hot sauces are legendary - be very careful of the hotttst one :) ||Every staff member was incredible and kind and lovely. We had no issues communicating with them despite our limited Spanish.||The ingenuity in the rooms was fabulous, from storage to room separation.||The pool is small but deep and lovely for a cool off on a hot day, in fact one day we decided to just do that all day and we loved it, very comfortable and the lovely restaurant staff checked on us to see off we needed anything. ||The price is high. I can’t explain or justify quite why it’s so high but I can say we created beautiful memories here and really enjoyed our stay - sick a lovely place to come back after exploring - and we would stay there again . We loved the limited number of guests. They explain their rooms well, so choose carefully and select what is important to you.

This place is absolutely perfect—truly magical. The staff is incredibly attentive, making you feel supported in every possible way, and they genuinely deliver on that. I planned a surprise proposal here, and it could not have gone more smoothly. This was largely thanks to the amazing team at the hotel, as well as the stunning location itself.||I read reviews beforehand, many of which highlighted the hotel’s unparalleled attention to detail. As someone who frequently stays at five-star hotels around the world, I can confidently say this place truly stands out. Here, details matter, kindness matters, and ensuring you have the best experience possible matters.||The rooms are a perfect escape—ideal for a getaway. While it’s true that it’s about a 15- to 20-minute drive (depending on traffic) to the city center, it’s absolutely worth it. We’ll definitely be returning to this incredible place many times in the future. I can’t thank the team, the location, and the surrounding nature enough for creating such an unforgettable experience.

We were given a room next to the restaurant, if you want to sit outside at the balcony you are literally sitting next to one of the tables in the restaurants. To keep some privacy we closed the curtain the whole time and that is the only window in the room so basically we could not enough at all. Also it’s very noisy so you cannot rest. I have raised the issue to one of the staff, and got a reply of “only until 10pm every night and all the other rooms are similar”. Anyway we requested to change to another room but only available the next day. Moreover the shower temperature is not stable, during the shower it became super hot and cold suddenly. After googling we discovered another guest complained about the exact same thing as us one month ago. ||The hotel room also lacking basic stuff like kettle, fridge and wine glasses etc. Gym is not available at all.||The swimming pool is so small you can barely swim. ||Also the hotel is quite far from city so prepare to pay 200pesos each way. ||The staff for the guest services also have very limited English so we ordered the taxi several times and found out it wasn’t ordered. ||Also the hotel staff texted us on WhatsApp several times on WhatsApp in Spanish and we have been quite clear at the beginning we do not understand Spanish. ||Other than the stuff mentioned above, other staff are helpful and nice. But definitely overpriced for what it is.

This is a lovely boutique hotel far from the madding crowd in downtown Oaxaca. It is in a beautiful section of town along the hills above the city. Staff here were very gracious and helpful. They responded to every request. The restaurant on the property has beautiful views all around. Breakfast was delicious and so were the margaritas and mezcal drinks. We had a room on the second level which also had wonderful views. ||Each evening we had a special surprise waiting for us on the bed. Fresh water was plentiful and served each day with an herb inside the water bottle. Room amenities were not lacking. TV worked great and included Netflix. Bird of paradise flowers were placed in the room and there was also a welcome snack.
