The staff are great and the hotel is conveniently located. However the Wi-Fi is not usable on my Windows laptop. I’ve tried working with staff on it twice to no avail, as the authentication window won’t come up. It works only on my iPhone. If you need reliable Wi-Fi for a work trip, you may want to book elsewhere.

Nicely nestled in the middle of town so you can walk to most anywhere. But the rooms are like a shoebox, nothing like pictured. Had to move rooms just so my wife and I weren't squished together the whole time. The staff was very nice though. But we were also asked to put down a $100 deposit for our stay. We didn't see anything about this anywhere. We reluctantly did but it's been a month after our trip and 3 phone calls and two fake "we manually released it, it will be to you in 3-5 business days" later and we STILL HAVNT GOTTEN THAT MONEY BACK. Overall. The staff is nice, the hotel is nice. But the rooms are closet sized and they will steal $100 from you.

My only negative about this hotel was the room size. I read the reviews but was still taken aback when I first opened my room door. If you’re traveling light not so bad but if you have 4 or 5 bags, good luck. Otherwise I loved everything else: free full breakfast was great, location was perfect, tons of shopping and restaurants nearby, there’s even a cute dispensary directly across the street if you’re into that, service was good, room was very clean. I enjoyed my stay. Edited to add that it took a full 30 days to get my deposit back. So plan on that if you plan on staying here.

I enjoyed my 1 nite here. The breakfast was good. Yes, the room is small but okay for 1 person and it was spotless. My only complaint is the doors close automatically (see pic). So, I'd be relaxing at nite watching great tv, when I hear a door in hallway banging shut by neighbors coming and going 😱. At one point my coffee spilled on my shirt cause noise startled me.😵‍💫. I noticed an extra $100 was charged on my card. Hopefully, it'll turn back up after a day or so.🤞 I'll update when I know.

Please use courtesy with your customers calling the front desk directly or don't provide the front desk number within the app. It leads customers to believe they will get a live person. I tried for 10 days to reach someone at the front desk and it takes you through a voice tree each time. Choose 3 for the front desk. It will ring and they will pick it up and immediately place you on hold without speaking to you. Earlier today they even picked up the phone and waited a few seconds before placing me on hold because I could hear them talking to another customer. I did send an email to the hotel from within the app but so far no answer. I have been a traveler for work for over 10 years and I frequently travel and this is probably one of the worst things to do for your customers. At least answer the phone and ask customers to hold beforehand. I canceled the reservation and I am staying at a Marriott a couple of blocks away instead. I was immediately able to get to their front desk by phone and ask the questions that I wanted to ask.

Staff is amazing! Yes, it is a building that is over 100 years old so the rooms are small but IHG has remodeled it and everything is up to date and clean. It is in a perfect location and close to everything. I stayed for a night as I live in the burbs and had to be in the office really early so decided to stay in the city. Perfect if you are looking for a bed, shower and free breakfast and you want to explore the city.

Be Leary of staying here, they will try to double charge you for your stay!! Checked in on 5/22 and was charged for the stay plus an additional refundable charge of 100 for incidentals which is normal. On 5/24 was charged an additional 368.00 . When asked the desk attendant about this he stated he had no reason and gave me a card of someone that could help. When asked for the manager on duty he stated the wasn't one. Waited some time and then asked another attendant for assistance. She stated that she was sorry but all she knew how to do was check people in and check people out. When asked to speak with a maker she stated that they were supposed to be in at 8 but was not there yet. Waited until 830 but the manager had not shown up and had not called so she had no answer. Had to fly home s left. Upon arriving home I made contact with a manager. When questioned the charge she replied that the charge was for the last night of the stay.. When told her the trip was already paid for. The reply was that they charge each night individually. That was not true because there was no charge for 5/23. When asked her about this I was put on hold. 30 minutes later she returned to the phone saying that the was new software and the hotel was in transition to a new staff and management. She the then said that she would give a 20% discount on the stay. I told her that wasn't the intention but to have the charges for the extra nights taken away. The funds have still not returned to the bank account. We have had to open an investigation and file a complaint with Holiday Inn Express corporate office along with IHG Hotel group. The hotel is small but nice. Rooms are small but clean and fresh. The location is wonderful and close to everything. The service and professionalism of the staff is horrible and shows no interest in making things right. BEWARE!!!

My sisters and I came here to enjoy our sister time and we had problems checking in, and then the room and bathroom for 3 people were so small we felt like we were at a motel!!! We had no microwave or refrigerator!

Yelp
Great location! Two blocks away from Michigan Avenue. The queen bed room had no side tables (not a big deal) are cruise ship size but if you are just there to sleep then it is a good place to stay. No microwave or fridge so not ideal for families. Housekeeping comes knocking at 8am so put your Do Not Disturb sign out if you don't want an early wake up call. Hot breakfast available. Decent size dining area. Service was friendly and efficient. No parking garage but you can book a space on SpotHero nearby. We would stay here again!

Yelp
This hotel has many good things about it. The only one bad thing about it is a big thing though so you be the judge and see if this review helps you make a decision whether you'd like to stay here or not. The bad: the room is really tiny. I am just one person so I wasn't too bothered by this. But when I say tiny, you open the door and literally there is your bed right up against the door. I was surprised at first of how small the room was but I guess for a big city like Chicago that's how it generally is. The good: the service of the hotel was very good and helpful. From everyone through the front all the way to the cleaning staff. Despite how small the room was, it was very clean. The bed was comfy, love the full size, shampoo, and body wash, which is to be expected of all Ihg hotels. I like their variety of breakfast and how fast their stuff worked. The location of this hotel is very convenient. You're only two blocks away from Michigan Avenue. Plenty of restaurants to choose from close by even a casino across the street if that's your thing.

Yelp
This is my second time staying at this hotel, and things were off with this recent visit from what I previously experienced. Cons: I booked a disability assist tub room room with a fridge, there was no fridge in the room. The tub shows a picture with a seat for the tub, but there was no seat. In the tub, the gasket to stop water drainage must be deteriorated because the tub drained quickly as I tried to soak. The water only got to a slightly hotter than warm temperature. The closet is impractical because there's a dresser in the closet, so you better have midriffs to hang because if you don't, they're sitting on the dresser. A doorman opened the door and assisted with my luggage only once and any other time I walked by, they just stood there. Half the bed was a crater; it was so soft, the other half was super firm. It was hard to find a neutral spot. When I exited the elevator for my floor, it felt like a blazing desert, luckily, my door was close to the elevator, so I didn't deal with it too long. Walls to the hallway are thin, so you're going to hear EVERYTHING at 2am when people are talking to each other and slamming doors. Pros: I didn't ask for housekeeping because there were more than enough towels and pillows for just me. Room had a cute coffee/tea section. I asked for a disability assist tub because I have a hard time getting out of the tub, so the multiple rails were fantastic. The only workers I saw with hustle were the breakfast staff. They were consistently emptying trash cans, wiping down tables, taking dirty plates, restocking food. Breakfast has a few options that I think would satisfy a majority of the people's taste. All my bottles (hand soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner - DOVE brand by the way) were full, but the body wash was completely empty. Pillows are clearly labeled as firm and soft. You are in the heart of downtown. The Red line is in walking distance and about 15/20 min (depending how quickly you walk) is the Blue line. The Magnificent Mile is not far and there is a bus stop close by if you want to check out Navy Pier. I didn't bother fighting any of the cons because I was so tired upon check in. A fridge is luxury, so any leftovers, I just put on ice and ate later. It's not a horrible hotel; compared to other places I've staying at in Chicago though, I think I would take the time to check out other places before coming back again.

Yelp
Front desk staff and doorman were all very nice. The location is very convenient in the heart of downtown Chicago. The property is quite a bit older, and because of that, the rooms are old, not very large, and not the most clean. It is a 3 star property. It includes a hot breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausage, breads, cereals, etc. There is no parking at the property but they suggest using the parking app Spot Hub and it is a pretty decent discounted parking price at a local garage. Its ~$26 a night for parking. Was on the 9th floor. Views were not bad but the windows were kinda dirty.

Yelp
Second time visiting this hotel, I will be back! This hotel is situated in the perfect location. Nestled on a busy street that is directly across from Trader Joe's and walking distance to some of my favorite shopping places such as ZARA. The Holiday Inn Express Chicago is a great little boutique styled hotel with cozy vibe. The interior of the hotel is beautiful. The room itself was quite small but given the size of the overall hotel, it's understandable. The staff was really kind and very professional. The hotel itself was very clean and smelled great! I didn't have a chance to dine-in during their complimentary breakfast but that is available starting at 6:30 am. While the room itself is on the smaller side, it was perfect for us. Because of the array of things to do in the area (Shopping, eating, ice skating, site seeing, etc.) we really only used the hotel to freshen up and sleep. If you're looking for a no frills, easy going but clean hotel to stay at for a quick trip.. check this place out. The rates are affordable and the location is OUTSTANDING! I'll be back!

Yelp
Great location, the room was on the small size, staff went above and beyond. Check in and check out was simple, fast, and easy. Nice selection for breakfast. One reason the rating isn't higher is due to the AC unit in my room said it was 65 degrees, it was more like 85 degrees. I literally woke up sweating. I didn't complain due to I was only there one night. Probably would repeat just for the location.

Yelp
I have stayed here five weekends recently and it has always been a great experience. Clean and great staff. Much better than the other two places I stayed at in this price point.

Yelp
Booked a Valentine's Day stay and we were pleasantly surprised by the room amenities, breakfast, walking distance proximity to River North/Magnificent Mile Chicago restaurants & attractions, and the hotel service. The front desk concierge, Thomas, was the best I've ever had the pleasure of interacting with. He addressed all of our questions, including guiding us through how to secure a nearby parking garage reservation with a discount, and he even made a restaurant reservation for us which also offered a discount! As for the room, it was clean, the bed was comfortable, the room heat/air conditioning was quiet, adjustable and effective, and complementary bathroom Dove soap, conditioner, and hand lotion dispensers were included. One thing missing was an end table/night stand on both sides of the bed instead of just one side. Other than that we have nothing but praise for the service and accommodations. Will definitely book again in the near future.

Nick W.

Yelp
5 star review simply because of our experience with Thomas at the front lobby. We were not supposed to be in Chicago but got stuck there due to a train cancelation. We were lucky to find a hotel in a good area and upon arriving Thomas recommended many good places to eat at and drink. He also was very welcoming and helpful with all of our questions. Room itself had a comfy bed and everything needed and expected for a Holiday Inn.

Yelp
Stayed here during a trip to Chicago for a Cubs game. Great location, easy walking to many restaurants and shopping areas. The front desk clerk that checked us in was not terribly knowledgeable about parking rates or, for that matter, why the room rate was coming up higher than the rate booked online at the IHG site. Her response to this-"You can speak to someone higher up than me at checkout if it's not right". Hmmm...

Yelp
I booked a room here a couple weeks out for a trip to Chicago from New York. I didn't expect a whole lot. I just needed a place to crash and recharge my phone and that would've been plenty. Because of a nasty storm the night before, I ended up missing my flight to Chicago, but thanks to a helpful ticket agent I was able to rebook. I thought that would be the worst part of my trip, but I was wrong. After making it into Chicago, I figured I'd check in, drop off my stuff, and wander around a bit. I got to the hotel and imagine my surprise when I found out the hotel was closed. I'm not kidding when I say the front door was, literally, padlocked. I went around trying to find another entrance but couldn't find one. Assuming I was too tired and dumb to find the entrance, I called the hotel to ask where the entrance was. As it turns out, every number associated with the hotel was disconnected. It turns out the hotel is closed. How you're allowed to book a room in a fucking dead hotel is beyond me, but if anyone's thinking about booking a room here for the great location and relatively good rate, don't. Because it's closed. It might be open to ghosts, but it's closed to the living. If you have a heartbeat, look elsewhere. Because it's closed.

Linda M.

Yelp
Rooms are not very large but price, location, breakfast and great service makes up it. Their staff is the most attentive I've ever experienced at a hotel from the front desk to housekeeping to the doorman José. We had a great stay and we highly recommend!

Ella W.

Yelp
Thomas at the front desk helped us out when our flight was cancelled. He gave us the best rate with upgrades, and offered recommendations for nearby food & drinks. Overall super impressed with his personalized service.

Yelp
Look. This is Chicago. You're not coming here to stay in your room all day. You're here to go out and have fun. This is a great hotel if you care about saving money (we booked through Hotel Tonight and paid $117 after tax). They also had one of the cheaper valet parking options around this area at $54 so not too shabby. The room is small but as long as you don't mind snuggling up to whomever is with you, you're good. We had everything we needed in the room AND you get free breakfast! You don't find that around here for the cheap price we paid. They have these delicious Cinnabon rolls not to mention a machine that makes pancakes every minute. It's your standard hotel breakfast but it beats nothing. Did I mention this place is close to Eataly?! It is! It's also close to a ton of other great places to eat so prime location for sure.

Yelp
Located on the Mag Mike so very convenient. We stayed her bc we got an amazing deal and it was close to the Chicago Theatre. The staff was friendly and the lobby was cute. Old building so the elevators are small, but who really cares about that? The room was clean and cozy. The room had a King Bed, small closet, fridge, seating bench, desk, and a tv on the wall. The room was smallish, but it was enough space for us so that wasn't an issue for us. The window opens a bit so that was nice to have some fresh air and listen to the city. The bathroom was a little tight, but no biggie. They provided JR Watkins body wash, shampoo and conditioner, which was nice. They also have free wi-if. Parking was just around the corner for $45. Apparently, you may be able to get it cheaper through Spot Hero for about $38 but it was not available on the day we stayed. Valet is $54 so typical city prices. I would recommend staying here as it's a good deal and close to everything.

Yelp
This hotel is CLOSED! I made a reservation back in April and I tried calling today, two days before I go to ask about an early check-in and the phone number was disconnected. I found other reviews online that said it was closed! I called IHG for customer assistance and got none. They tried to put me in the next closest hotel for double the price and when I asked for a supervisor I got hung up on. When I called back they said the wait time was six minutes and they would call me back and after an hour I just gave up and booked a different hotel chain.
google avatar

Sarah G.

Yelp
This HIE location is pretty good - it's not the best one I've stayed at but the staff is phenomenal which makes up for most of its pitfalls. The biggest issue was simply that the tv was on a wall next to the bed making it tough for both people to watch. I realize it's this way though because it's a historic hotel - which is really cool. At first we were put in a room with a window that faced essentially a brick wall so we asked if it was possible to switch and they said yes so that was wonderful. Additionally they held our luggage for us later in the day as we had a flight out later in he evening. The staff makes this place wonderful and worth it. I would certainly consider staying again... but only if I remember to reserve a room with a view!

Yelp
I was in Chicago for a weekend with my fiancé and parents. I wanted a hotel within distance to most attractions and this hotel was perfect. The hotel is located in downtown and within 15 minutes you can pretty much see all of the great attractions Chicago has to offer. The hotel it self was clean and the complimentary breakfast was pretty good. I'm a fan of holiday inns since you always know what you get. I will be staying here again next time I'm in town.

Yelp
The location of this hotel is impeccable. It's a couple of blocks from the Magnificent Mile and within a mile go navy pier. There is a Trader Joe's and a Starbucks across the street. The cinnamon rolls during breakfast were delicious and the beds in our room were really comfy. The front desk staff were professional and very helpful, though they never smiled. Maybe it was because we were there on holiday so I don't blame them . The parking was a huge pain. We elected for valet parking, something our family doesnt do often. Be prepared to wait for your car for a long time...the valet staff told us they had to walk 7 blocks to get our car. It's not their fault but it's just not a good system. Most of the valet staff were very nice and helpful and friendly. There was one older gentleman on Christmas Eve and Christmas who was extremely rude and unprofessional. This three star rating system is mostly because of him. He didn't seem to even care about his job and denied any tips we attempted to give him. Again, maybe it's the holidays. The rest of the valet staff were great. Also if you're sleeping in a room that faces Wabash st be prepared to be woken up multiple times to the car garage beeping across the street. Might be a problem for ppl who are light sleepers. The front lobby is poorly designed. There is no place to really sit or welcome guests. It is cold and unwelcoming to be in that lobby to check in or wait for your car. I would seriously consider remodeling. There is a nice guest area where the breakfast is but that is tucked away behind the elevators. The breakfast area is decorated really nicely with bright colors. Please consider more tables during breakfast. It is really cramped in the morning during breakfast and uncomfortable. Breakfast was ok. My family really took advantage of and appreciated the hot water/coffee availability in the breakfast room! Helpful on cold days!

Yelp
It's an OK hotel, if you get a good price. Location. Location. Location. Rooms are tiny - think London or NYC where you can barely walk around the bed, sit at the desk, or move in the bathroom. They also show a bit of age (wallpaper, loose/fraying rugs, etc.) plus the walls are very thin so you'll hear lots of nearby guest noise - even the loud toilet flushes above and below your room. And there are only 2 small/slow elevators so during the morning rush you should expect to either wait 10 minutes or be prepared to walk down the stairs. And then when you get downstairs the lobby will be swamped with families partaking in the free breakfast - on a recent visit it was barely possible to even get near the buffet and they were out of cinnamon rolls then the "omelette" tray was 1/3 full when the tray was pulled off by the hostess (I guess they don't have enough money for multiple trays so they remove some of the only available food to go in a back room and refill). The beds are quite comfortable however, and this is clearly IHG's low end option and quite frankly one of the cheapest hotels in downtown Chicago so it's all about price. But beware the summer/convention months (much of April through October) where prices spike on every hotel in Chicago and even this one often ends up at $200+/night. I would definitely not stay here with my wife, and I will try to avoid it for work as well but in the summer Chicago room rates can get a bit crazy so I'll probably come back. Some apparently really like it, but definitely not my preference for business travel yet I'll likely stay here when there are no other options within my company's travel policy of $200/night. It is what it is.

Yelp
Stayed here on a recent trip from Michigan. Found this hotel on Hotwire for a decent price for booking it so close to the date. We planned on valeting our car which is pricey ($54) but we didn't want to deal with driving or parking so, it was worth it. One thing I didn't like is that there is no valet loop, which caused us to block the rode from there being no places to parallel park. Ok service. Kirby, the front desk host was friendly and informative. The issue was mainly not understanding or being informed on their valet process. We got up to our room and realized people on yelp weren't kidding. The rooms were VERY small. Apparently this hotel was built in the 1930s, so there are historical reasons behind the small rooms and super slow elevators. The rooms didn't have much counter space or walking space and their walls are pretty thin. Overall, I had a pretty nice experience. Nice view, comfy bed, complimentary breakfast, and close to attractions/mag mile. I'd recommend this to a couple or close friends for a short weekend trip!

Yelp
Stayed here for the weekend and it was an alright stay. Had a few bumps.. Pros: free WiFi, free breakfast, nice pillows, clean, nice shower (hot water!), had Watkins shampoo, body wash etc. Great location. Cons: small rooms (when I say small, I mean barely room to walk around the bed small), beds were uncomfortable (springy and firm). When I called down for an extra blanket I was asked to be put on hold, was on hold for over 5 minutes until I hung up and called back 15 minutes later with no answer. Never got an extra blanket.. I wouldn't put parking on either list. Because you are in downtown Chicago. You are going to pay for parking. We choose valet and it was $54 a night. No complaints.

Yelp
When confronted with the task of describing the kind of Holiday you can have at this inn, I don't feel up to the task. But, in the interest of humanity and the future of knowledge, I'll try. This place has extremely small rooms. But, it also has tiny low ceiling hallways so it doesn't feel like a cramped hotel room. No, it feels more like being in a backyard playhouse designed for children. Suitcases are not easy to wield in these confines - consider leaving your luggage behind. But you do get breakfast. It's got both qualities one desires in food. First, it's free. Or, at least included in the room price. But they don't stop there. Secondly, Their selection is also really cheap. They have a small assortment of sad fruit, some kind of egg patty they affectionately refer to as an omelette and an abundance of petroleum based flatware and cutlery. Oh, never forget this: hazelnut. Lots of hazelnut coffee. Nearly as much as you would ever need. Ever. The people who work here are super nice though, and the location is great, so if you want an expensive hotel with all of the qualities above, you can't do any worse than the Inne de Holiday, Espresso. Except for the Aloft. Which is much better at the same price point.

Yelp
Loved this place! HIE is my hotel of choice for work travel, but this was a trip purely for fun and it did not disappoint! Yes. This is a historic (aka old) hotel. It oozes with charm though. There's only about a dozen (give or take a couple) rooms per floor, which makes it pretty quaint, compared to other hotels in the area. Check in was a breeze. My room had two doubles, but didn't feel cramped. There is a closet, so tuck your suitcases in there to save space. It was a spotless room and had the wonderful soft and firm pillows which are my favorite. My bed was super cozy and comfortable. I didn't have any breakfast at the hotel, because this is Chicago and I needed to spend $13 on Firecakes donuts every morning. But the breakfast area appeared to be busy and well stocked with the usual HIE goodies. My ONLY complaint was the lack of soft closures on the doors. I'll be back because the location is perfect and the price was reasonable!

Yelp
Great location, and my room was huge! I lucked out and was upgraded to an end cap room with windows all around and a great view of the Magnificent Mile. The actual hotel starts on floor 15 or something like that in this building, so you have to make sure you enter the door on the left (the right leads to the office buildings I believe). You walk to the end of the hall and take the elevator to the lobby floor and check in there. Their mini marketplace and restaurant/bar are located on that same floor, as well as the breakfast area. I loved the open concept of the hotel, where the rooms on the outside perimeter, and the lobby area extends all the way to the roof so you can look over the railing and see all the way downstairs as well as other people walking to their rooms on other levels. My bed and pillows were comfy, the wifi fast, and bathroom clean. There was even a mini fridge available in the room, and a large flat screen. I would definitely stay here again if visiting Chicago. The hotel is within a 10 minute walk to many excellent restaurants.

Yelp
Great location but thats about it. I could barely open the door to the room without hitting the bed. Zero space to even put luggage down. I was by myself but I have no clue how more then 2 people could of stayed in that room. Tub/shower trickled water and it was hard to control it from being scalding hot to cold!

Yelp
Nice hotel for the price. It was very clean, and comfortable beds, close to lots of shopping & restaurants. Very nice staff as well. I will stay here again! The breakfast was pretty good, large selection.

Yelp
I stayed here for work and was very pleasantly surprised upon check-in. After seeing some of the other reviews, I was a bit worried about size and cleanliness but those review just must not be used to city hotels. Make no mistake, it's small and you would probably be unhappy with more than two people to a room, but it's a great size for 1-2 people. As for some of the reviews that mentioned the hotel is dirty, I saw no signs of what they were talking about. The hotel room was spotless when i checked-in and every day when i came back to my room I could tell it had been deep cleaned and my clothes were folded. That's more than I can say for some "luxury" hotels such as le Meridien. It's also directly across the street from numerous restaurants, a Starbucks, and a Trader Joe's. What more could you want? Bottom line is it's small but not unreasonably so and very clean. i would highly recommend.
google avatar

Jena K.

Yelp
Location is great. Valet will take no less than 30 minutes every time. You're better off parking in the self park right next door, and paying less, to be able to get your car right away. The customer service is also very average. Rooms are very small.. which is expected in a tiny Chicago hotel. One thing that could make up for the small room would be not finding other people's hair between your bed sheets but no.. Lastly.. I can't tell you how much I hated not having a full length mirror in our room. The only mirror is a tiny mirror in the bathroom. So if you want to make sure you look good then hopefully your friends can take a nice photo of you to check instead.

Yelp
I don't usually stay at a Holiday Inn (typically, I like to stay at Marriott or Hilton), but when I took too long committing to a hotel room in Chicago, the prices of my go-to places skyrocketed, and I went with this hotel. Pros: Nice staff, including a really funny employee that we had a running joke with Location Attractive entryway and lobby Quick elevator Cons: Small hotel room (one queen bed) with not enough space to even open up our two small carry on bags Poorly installed windows in the hotel room that let in a lot of noise Overall, the stay was fine, but I think that I'll likely select a slightly more upgraded hotel in the future.

Yelp
Corey at the front desk definitely made my stay here a 5-star experience! Every time I came back into the hotel I was always met with a smile and a fun conversation. He provided my girlfriend and I with excellent service and I would highly recommend this hotel just because of Corey. The hotel is also in walking distance of almost everything you need (sites, food, bars, etc) If I ever come back to Chicago, this is the only place I want to stay at.

Yelp
Tikisha is the reason I am writing this review! Wow she was awesome! Lovely place looks-wise, great location, but even better service! The front desk was SO friendly and kind, and willing to help out. Tikisha was possibly the sweetest concierge I've ever met! Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone coming out here. The hotel is pretty much within walking distance of all the tourist spots. Great place!

Yelp
To be honest, I had very low expectations for this hotel. My friend and I stayed there one night over the weekend and just needed a simple place (that we trusted and were familiar with) to sleep. We arrived at 10:30am on a Saturday and went to check in our bags since check-in time isn't until 3pm. Luckily, a room was available and they let us check in much earlier - always a plus! We got to our room and it's a pretty normal, what you would expect hotel. The best part is that it is so close to everything downtown. We walked almost everywhere and got to Millennium park in 15 minutes of walking along the Magnificent Mile - very doable. The rooms are quite small, but that's not an issue. There was plentiful room for two, but anymore (in our room at least) would have been a bit too crowded. Pros: 1- letting us check in early and not charging for it 2- the shower heads are amazing 3- the breakfast (take advantage of it!! they have eggs, biscuits, cereal, pastries, juices, yogurts, coffee/tea, cinnamon rolls, all kinds of stuff!) Cons: 1- check-out time is so early (10am?? you can't even sleep in and get ready) 2- the elevators are so so so slow 3- the ice bins aren't on every floor so you have to go to other floors to get ice. Overall, a very affordable hotel price and very close to most of the main touristy events. I'd recommend for a short trip in downtown Chitown!

Yelp
Great hotel! Right in the middle of downtown with a Trader Joe's across the street on one side, and Bloomingdale's on the other. The staff could not have been nicer, specifically the GSM, Fran. He had our room ready to go even though we got there a few hours before normal check-in and was always quick to say hello and ask how our day was. Breakfast was great, I loved the way the lobby/breakfast area was set up, definitely more of a home type feel than other HIE's I've stayed at. I know everyone talks about how small the rooms are and honestly, the rooms are not that small, guys. Its hotel in a big city in an old building and there is AMPLE enough room for 2 people to store their stuff and get ready for a night out. We requested a fridge and microwave and we STILL had room to spare. The bed was really comfy and there was a nice padded bench on one wall that was great for storage. The curtains helped to not only shield sun but to keep the room insulated from the cold, and I would assume will do the same with the heat in the summer. All in all, very functional and nicely decorated. AND walking distance to the Red Line L Train which was absolutely amazing. I will DEFINITELY stay here again on my next trip to Chicago.

Yelp
Hmm. I have to say quite a pleasant experience! We changed hotels after reading the positive reviews of this one. Stayed for a few days. Very nice front desk staff during morning and late evening hours. This was more like a smaller boutique hotel in a GREAT area, Wabash and Erie, 2 blocks or less from everything including Michigan Avenue. Safe, clean, well landscaped lush area. Property also clean, well maintained and fresh smelling. Sure, rooms are small but why would you stay in your room in this great city. I didn't find them terribly small. There was a small hallway that went past the bathroom to an area with a desk, queen bed and flat screen. Modern decor and colors. Small dresser in closet with ironing board and safe. Bathroom larger than I expected after reading the other reviews. FREE WiFi and breakfast buffet which had yogurt, cereal, hot cinnamon rolls, an egg product, sausage, etc. Hot beverages were always available throughout the day. Clean dining area just off lobby. Clean, comfortable beds, updated fixtures, comfy bed, clean, bright linens. I did not have too many issues with noise overall. Good water pressure, hot water, clean towels. Partial view of street, room not totally blocked in. Again, you're not here to look out the window. You are here to eat and shop. (Don't kid yourself). You don't need a car here in the city so save your efforts with that. Close to trains, buses, etc. Easy walkable city. Trader Joe's is across the street, Grand Lux, Bloomingdale's Home, Dues Pizza around corner, Michigan Avenue two blocks away, quick walk. All the restaurants/shops any visitor would want. Save yourself the bloated overhead of some of the other more crowded Magnificent Mile hotels and stay here. Nothing bugs me more when the common areas, lobbies, etc. are just crammed with tourists. Good for single travelers, families, etc. Good for YOU!

Yelp
I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights while visiting Chicago. The hotel in on Wabash and Erie, two blocks from Michigan Avenue (known for shopping) and the CTA Redline. The hotel is around a busy and safe area. I walked around the area at 11pm at night and I had no issues. There were not a lot of people out at night but I felt safer than other parts of Chicago I visited during the daytime (southside of chicago). They have a friendly front desk who will answer your questions and accomodate your needs (extra soap, problems with the room). The rooms are small but that is fine because when you visit chicago, you are only at your hotel to sleep for a few hours. The bathroom is about the size of your room. They have FREE WiFi and breakfast buffet which had eggs with cheese, sausages, make your own pancakes, cereal, fruit and etc. Hot coffee and teas as well as ice cold water were always available throughout the day. They have a nice, clean, big dining room by the lobby. I like the hotel. The only problem is the ventiliation kept making a sound at night and kept waking me up. I asked the hotel staff to fix it two nights in a row. It stopped for a few hours and the sound came back again. I would definitely go back to this hotel again as it is convenient and not too expensive.

Yelp
Hotel Cass aka the Holiday Inn Express is just the cutest darn hotel I've ever stayed in. And by cute I mean small. My hotel room, which was nicely organized, clean and had a nice color scheme going on was literally a 12x12 box. A double bed + a few feet on each side to walk. There was also a desk, cart with coffee maker, small closet with chest and safe and a really nice sized bathroom. Customer service was pretty awesome. I arrived earrrrrrrrly on a Sunday morning and the front desk was able to put me into a room, yay for that! So glad I was able to freshen up from my early morning flight before headed back out. Throughout the next three days I had a great stay. Breakfast served up 6ish-9ish included cereal, bagels, etc, etc. They've got a tea/coffee station set up 24hrs. Forgot toothpaste? Housekeeping has got you covered. And those front desk staffers were super helpful making sure I knew which bus or subway to get on. Bonus points for the following: Wifi was easy to connect to. Extra security. Guests need to use their room keys to use the elevator after 9 and to get into the building after 11. My room, on the north side of the building, had pretty amazing views of the John Hancock building. And despite the rooms being small they were very quiet. I was able to sleep through the night without incident. And maybe the best part of all of it: the hotel is a short walk to Magnificent Mile and the Merchandise Mart and dozens of restaurants. I took one star away for the price. I know, I know it's because of the location...but it would have been perrrrrrfect if it was about $40 less. Either way I Will definitely put this hotel on the short list for my next trip to Chicago.

Yelp
Very dirty... and looks like it has not been remodeled in a very long time. I stayed here for business and it was not a comfortable stay. Please see pictures.

Yelp
Great location for a reasonable price. This was my first trip to Chicago and the hotel worked out perfect. I always look for smaller places with a bit of historical charm when I travel and this fit the bill. Positives: location right in downtown, close to Navy Pier, subway, etc. Friendly staff and a nice free breakfast. (Not just stale bagels and coffee). Clean rooms with cable and wifi. Downsides: Street noise was loud even on 16th floor. Small rooms. No heater in the bathroom, brrrrr!

Yelp
I just checked out of Hotel Cass (or Holiday Inn Express on Mag Mile) after a 5-day stay. BEST HOTEL IVE BEEN IN TO DATE! The pics on the website are what you get....its bit small, but very modern. Space is used effectively and in a single room, I had a nice size bed, desk, flat screen TV, and good size bath. Every was clean and the housekeeping staff was SO nice that I HAD to tip! Free internet (that was a big deal, as I have paid for internet everywhere else) that oyu can access from your room and not just the lobby. Valet parking for those that want it (its $44).Very friendly and helpful doormen. Breakfast was a STEAL! Not the same everyday, but there was always an fresh egg option, meat, fruit, cereal, juice, milk, coffee, lots of bread options (sweet rolls each day!) and yogurt. I never heard any other person in the other rooms, which is good for a high rise. The price was great to me, especially considering the price of the others in the area. Get high enough and you will get a good view, if on that side of the building. I would definately stay here again. I would come again and again, so consider highly if looking to staying in the Mag mile area!

Yelp
Perfectly fine hotel right in the heart of Chicago. There is a parking structure conveniently located right next to the hotel that offers Chicago reasonable parking rates (approximately $50 per 24 hours). Staff was courteous and professional. Check in went smoothly. The breakfast spread was good. Yes, the rooms are small, but the prime location and price make it worth it. I do, however, wish that both sides of the bed had a nightstand. Overall, a perfectly fine hotel.

Yelp
This is a great little hotel, so clean and spotless! We stayed 4 nights.. Small lobby area with only a front desk, elevators and dining area where the breakfast is set up. Check in/ check out was very easy and the staff were all nice and helpful. Great location, really is walking distance to everything. Breakfast was great although it does get very crowded and elevators are usually slow during this time otherwise we didn't have to wait long. You need to use your room key in elevators after 9pm and after 11pm at the front doors to get in. Our room was next to the elevators and we couldn't hear them but could hear people talking from the hallways. Our room #1406 was very small, barely had enough space for the both of us and our luggage. Closet was tiny but had a small dresser, door mirror and ironing board in it. Our only air vent was behind the closet door so we had to keep it closed so the air would flow better. Bathroom was a decent size although hardly any counter space, hotel provided soap dispensers already in the shower for guests to use which was nice. We had good size window with a view of the city which made up for the small room size. Bed was pretty high up and comfortable, did not care for the ceiling light which is in middle of room and gave a bad glare on the tv. Remote for some reason was not working well with the tv, took awhile just to change one channel. Ice machines are not available on every floor. Did not get to check out the gym. (FYI- The Starbucks that was across the street has been closed down) but hotel provides hot tea, coffee and iced water in breakfast area every day also Trader Joe's is right across the street and 7-11 is a short walk around the corner for snacks and cheap drinks. We got a standard queen room that doesn't come with fridge but I requested one at check in & they brought a small one up free of charge for our whole stay which worked out great!

Yelp
So... I've only stayed here on reward nights for vacation. Note that any rooms with a king bed are on the inside of the hotel, which probably have a nice view of a wall or a vent duct. I complained about this the second visit, and we were moved to a queen bedroom that faced the street (way worth it). The rooms are small *cough* cozy, but the location is so awesome. It's close to shopping and restaurants, and the staff have all been pleasant. I'd stay here again since the Crowne Plaza a few blocks towards the lake can be redeemed for a whopping 2x the rewards points. The staff introduced me to a parking app that can save quite a bit on overnight parking. Give it a try = SpotHero

Yelp
If you enjoy tiny cramped rooms and housekeeping waking you up at 8am cleaning rooms and running the vacuum then by all means, stay here. Hotel's Response: Comment from Todd V. of Holiday Inn Express Chicago - Magnificent Mile Business Owner 10/31/2017 Hi Rikki W. - Thank you very much for posting your review. As a fully renovated historic hotel in the heart of the Loop, our rooms are comparable in size to similar hotels in the downtown Chicago area. We appreciate your feedback, and we hope to welcome you back in the future. Read less Well I could abide by the tiny room but not being woken up by loud housekeeping at 8am in the morning...possibly earlier. My mom works at Holiday Inn and I asked her and she said that housekeeping should not be that loud that early in the morning.

Yelp
"Good for a very QUICK Stay" This Hotel was recently purchase by Holiday Inn and underwent a major renovation. The small hotel located about 1 block from famous Magnificent Mile aka Michigan Avenue is good for a quick stay in Chicago. I recommend waiting until a few days prior to your arrival to book your home to secure the best $$. The Lobby is very small but, the staff was very helpful, friendly and courteous. To save additional $$, book a parking space thru SpotHero, it will save you between $20 -$30 for parking. The reason why it's good for a "quick stay", the rooms are very compact. The BIGGEST negative: we heard all the rooms flushing their toilets every time a fellow traveler used their bathroom. 6am we were awoken to multiple toilet flushes proceeded by showers running. We prefer privacy versus sharing of these sounds. The full breakfast buffet was well stocked with: yogurt, fruits, cereal, make your own pancakes, bagels and Cinnamon Buns by Cinnabon. Super close to shopping, entertainment and yummy restaurants.

Yelp
It was a decent stay at a pretty good location. Walking distance from Riverwalk, navy pier, Millennium park, Lou malnati's, etc. I liked the free breakfast they serve. Clean, quiet. Staff was nice. They took your luggage just in case you came into town early before your check in. Highly recommend it.

Yelp
Don't let semi-dumb reviews about frivolous things steer you away. It was a great weekend stay for me and my husband. The staff was really friendly, the accommodations were clean and the location was perfect (walking distance from everything). We will be staying here again. PS- the rooms are small but really - it's Chicago and plus who goes on a trip to stay in the hotel room?

Yelp
Do I dare give away our secrets?! We stay here for our overnight city excursions. Use Spot hero for the garage next door. Walk to Sunnyside or Farmhouse for Brunch. It is perfect for what we need, clean, drop the bags, and go. Pass out. Wash, rinse, repeat. Nice soaps and amenities. Free breakfast. Across from Eataly! Great hospitality, clean, if small. Perfect!
