Retracing Julia Child’s Footsteps Through Paris, 75 Years Later | Condé Nast Traveler

"When they first arrived in Paris 75 years ago, Julia and her husband Paul had stayed at the historic Hôtel Pont Royal in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, but I think she would approve of my fancy quarters at the nearby Hotel d’Aubusson, still within walking distance of several of her favorite haunts."

We stayed at Hôtel d'Aubusson once before for it's excellent location and luxurious accommodations. Our second stay did not disappoint. Staff is as friendly and helpful as ever and booked all our dinner reservations. Love the jazz in the bar (although a duo on one of the nights seemed pretty amateurish). The breakfast buffet is outstanding with so many choices and delicious items - eggs, bacon, fruit, cheeses, meats, lox, yoghurt, baguettes, pastries... You name it! Our room was so quiet that even though we were there during the Fête de la Musique on the summer solstice, we heard nothing. No music. No sirens. No drunken revelry. The hotel is very centrally located, walking distance to Notre Dame, the Louvre, Boulevard St.-Germain, Musée d'Orsay, Latin Quarter. If you enjoy walking and exploring, can't beat the location. Many great dining options all within a 5-minute walk of the hotel.

One of the rare few perfect hotel stays I have had! Everything about this hotel is fantastic. Our room was a loft with two bedrooms, and it was the perfect size for the 3 of us. My daughter enjoyed her little twin bend in the alcove. I also made use of the day bed downstairs in the common area. Like everything else in Paris, the room was compact but very efficient and had all the necessary amenities. Staff was exemplary, no false notes. Special thanks to Kamal at the bar for his fantastic cocktails and Lakshman & Reschad at the door / lobby who were always so warm, gracious and helpful, no matter what the need. The entire front desk staff and concierge were very professional, kind and courteous throughout the week, and housekeeping left the room immaculate each day with nice little touches at turndown service whether it be little chocolates or fruits. The location, in the heart of the bustling 6th district, can't be beat, but you're also in the quiet and peaceful confines inside the hotel. We were a 15 min walk from the Louvre, the Orsay, and the Luxembourg gardens to name a few. Restaurants within and adjacent the 6th district were generally very good, lots of different options to choose from each day. Highly recommend this hotel for your stay, as a couple or small family, you won't be disappointed. I would give this hotel 6 stars if I could, it's one of the very best we've experienced in Europe.

Exceptional hotel in the heart of St Germain. Fantastic service. Has great amenities as well: pool, gym, sauna, steam room. Breakfast is high quality and nutritious. We had one of those duplex rooms on the 5th floor (50x), and it is a really nice setup . The bed is upstairs, allowing for the bathroom and seating area downstairs. Spacious and also very comfortable. They have live jazz every night. Also, if you stay a certain number of nights, they give you tickets for various museums and events. Service is top notch. Will return.

We stayed for one week in May 2025 and were impressed with the hotel. The service was outstanding. Our room was immaculate. The daily breakfast offered everything you need to start your day. We walked almost everywhere and found good restaurants within walking distance. The hotel staff were impressive and made you feel very welcome. We would highly recommend the hotel. Thank you to all the staff for your attention to detail.

Google
Beautifully appointed hotel in a perfect location for with an excellent and attentive staff. The breakfast buffet was lovely (but did cost extra) and there was live music nightly in the lounge. It was a hot week when we stayed and having AC in the hotel was such a relief. We’d stay again in a heartbeat. Tres manifique!

Google
Absolutely perfect hotel for our honeymoon in Paris! Our flight landed earlier than we expected, and the hotel kindly welcomed us, helped us check into our room early, and upgraded our room. Win-win-win. Amazing way to kick off our honeymoon. The breakfast here is top notch- we devoured a big breakfast each day and then had plenty of energy to travel all around Paris the rest of the day. There’s also a nice lounge area to talk, read, rest, (and we played mahjong on one of the tables). And they cleaned the room twice a day. Amazing! Huge shoutout to the entire team, especially Lahcen who kindly welcomed us and gave us such a nice first impression of the hotel and then proceeded to be very helpful and kind throughout our stay. The hotel is perfectly located near a ton of Parisian highlights including Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Love Lock Bridge, and 3 other of the largest, most stunning churches in Paris (Saint-Eustache Church, Sainte-Chapelle, and Église Saint-Sulpice). All in walking distance. Thank you Lahcen, Hotel d’Aubusson, and the entire team. Loved our honeymoon in Paris! (Oh, and as we were walking a block away, we happened to run into Lil Nas X at a nice little Parisian cafe. Amazing area in town)

Google
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this luxury boutique hotel based in a fabulous location in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. The service was excellent and our duplex room was wonderfully Parisienne with lots of nice touches (such as a complimentary bottle of wine). ||The hotel has an elegant courtyard and a relaxing bar with live jazz playing nightly. The pièce de résistance, however, has to be the large indoor pool and spa area (sauna, steam room and ice fountain) which was very quiet when we made use of it before breakfast. There's also a good size modern gym. ||We will definitely be back and can highly recommend this hotel.

One of those wonderful Left Bank retreats cobbled together from several old buildings including a 17th century townhouse with original massive beams and a huge hearth. Rooms vary greatly in size and layout but all are well-appointed. Public areas include Tapestry Room for a very nice breakfast buffet, lobby parlor featuring that fireplace, a resident jazz club featuring a new duo or combo every night (except Sunday), and a large and very clean underground pool. Staff were almost all absolutely superior - they learn a guests’ names and take very good care of all details. They were especially helpful to us when a mid-visit illness required a doctor’s care and an extended stay. Outstanding location a block from the Seine and with lots of wonderful shops and restaurants right outside the door.

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!! The location is superb. Our room was a nice size. It was very comfortable and didn't feel small at all. The front desk and concierge are outstanding!! They were so welcoming, helpful and accommodating. Great restaurants nearby!! I highly recommend!!

Yelp
Ah, our home away from home when we are in Paris! Exquisitely beautiful, with exceptional and friendly service, a wonderful courtyard garden, and an amazing breakfast buffet! The lobby bar, Cafe Laurent, is fantastic, with live music most nights! Our room was perfection, beautiful and spotless! The spa and pool in the basement is the best kept secret in Paris! The location in St. Germaine is as good as it gets: a few steps from the Pont Neuf, the Citi, the Louvre, and much more!

Yelp
Great Concierge service - spot on with recommendations- tasteful decor and a beautiful inner courtyard. Rooms a bit small - I would have loved to see auto Toto toilets or something a bit more modern to overcome the smaller rooms. Beds super comfy. The spa and pool look Devine but we are here to enjoy all that Paris has to offer - breakfast buffet is excellent. Location is fantastic- I would give it 4.5 stars

Yelp
Great hotel. I loved the location. If you don't like a bustling street and neighborhood you should avoid this place. I liked being in the center of the action. The streets on the weekend were full with people looking to eat and drink at nearby restaurants and bars. I loved the jazz music downstairs. You could hear it from our room on the 1st floor (which would annoy some but I liked). Their breakfast was $25 euros but I found worth it. It wasn't a typical continental breakfast and included eggs, lox, crepes, etc. My only complaint was the toilet has no space between it and the wall. I'm only 5'10" and my knees would hit the wall. I have never seen such little space between the toilet and wall. The front desk staff were very helpful and helped used book dinner reservations since our french was limited. You can easily walk to the Louvre and the river from the hotel.

Yelp
Unbelievable hotel. The staff is so so accommodating. Our room was superb. In a great area. This is a dream boutique hotel, well thought out and stunning. The staff is eager to please. I can't say enough good things. Will stay again.

Yelp
Absolutely charming boutique hotel in Saint-Germaine area. From check in to check out, it was Parisian excellence. Room was updated, bed was king size and sheets were high quality. The breakfast was better than I expected. The service at this hotel is first class. I would recommend this hotel to all of my friends and family. Location is probably THE best in all of Paris. I researched hotels in Paris for months - so happy with our decision to stay here.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel in the heart of the 6 th. The staff are friendly, speak excellent English and are all around outstanding! The room I had was absolutely stunning with amazing views of the street. Breakfast each morning was fantastic. And the restaurant staff were truly wonderful. All the foods were fresh and delicious. I highly recommend this hotel!

Yelp
Upon entering the door Hôtel d'Aubusson was the best decision I could have made. My wife and I, her first trip to Europe, checked in and were accommodated with a beautiful waterfront room. Rustic yet refined. Head down stairs, staff is welcoming and willing to please. Scotch please! Which one sir? Oh that one and then that one. Now let's relax in our comfy loft style room. Location wise, convenient to everything, yet just far enough out so not to have to deal with the partying of the downtown area. Location again, spot on! Breakfast included, yes, why yes it is. Never ending trays of meats, veggies, cheeses, eggs, breads, fruits, juices, warm foods, cold foods, and much more. More please! If you stay anywhere, stay here, you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
We have stayed at the Hotel d'Aubusson twice and looking forward to a third later this year. This hotel is so impressive that we schedule our trips to Paris around dates that we can actually get a reservation. Who does that? We do because it is the finest small hotel you will find in Paris. Located two blocks from the Seine in the Sixth district, you are within walking distance of all the major attractions. A few years ago the hotel added a spa and pool, a rarity in Paris. The ambiance, charm and staff of this hotel makes it one of the greats. At night you can relax in the jazz lounge, Cafe Laurent, while having their expert bar staff make you a wonderful cocktail. We understand that the hotel just did a renovation to their breakfast area and sitting area so we can't wait to see it. When visiting Paris, this is the hotel to make your visit truly memorable.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights, and were treated wonderfully by the hotel. The room was superb and spacious by Paris standards, the bathroom well appointed with Hermes products, and the location very central in the 6th.Located within walking distance to plenty of great restaurants We opted for their "discovery" package, which included free breakfast in the hotel each day (meats, cheeses, fruit, sausage, etc served buffet), in room treats each night (champagne, fruit, macarons, etc) The common areas (bar, lounge with live music nightly, salon, dining, and lobby) were all very charming, and the front desk staff always greeted us warmly. I would definitely stay here again on my next visit to Paris.

Yelp
This is truly the most beautiful hotel in Paris. I was blown away from the moment the driver from the hotel picked me up from CDG. David was my driver and somehow we were able to communicate with his little English and my non existent French. The moment we pulled up I was so excited and treated with kindness and smiles. My room was not quite ready so I was offered a cup of coffee until it was. I hardly finished my coffee when I was informed the room was ready. I was escorted to room 301. And from there it was a vacation of my dreams. I booked a package which included transport, breakfast, museum passes, cruise of the seine and a house cellphone to use during my stay. There were so many gifts and little surprises. So appreciated it. Breakfast was beyond delicious. And service was outstanding. From doormen, front desk, housekeeping to the amazing concierge Coralie. I can't thank them enough. I can't wait to go back to experience it again and use their new pool. Happy New Year to everyone.

Yelp
My daughter and I stayed at Hotel d'Aubusson in March 2018. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the fire place in the lobby is just lovely. Coralie the concierge was extremely helpful. We hope to visit again in the future.

Yelp
Unexpectedly cool place to listen to jazz. You won't get any guff for not being a hotel guest or even just buying one drink. Relaxed atmosphere to listen to good music in one of the most touristy places in town...yet there are almost no tourists in the crowd! Check it out.

Bob B.

Yelp
My new favorite Paris hotel.Located in the 6th, near the river Pont Neuf, this boutique hotel is a place to call home. From ice cold waters in the lobby (great in summer!), to the nightly jazz in the cozy bar, to the Hermes products in the bath, they pull out all the stops to welcome guests. Many restaurants close by, on a bustling Parisian street. Very cool.
google avatar

Yelp
This small, boutique hotel is perfectly located in the St.-Germain-des-Pres neighborhood which is not only wonderful in its own right but also close to all central Paris has to offer. Style is a bit "old school" (some might say charming but I'm more of the modern type) although the rooms are "modern" in that they were recently redone. Hermes products in the room are a bonus! Staff was responsive and very helpful. A real gem.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights, and were treated wonderfully by the hotel. The room was superb and spacious by Paris standards, the bathroom well appointed with Hermes products, and the location very central in the 6th. Even tho we were on the 2nd floor the double windows blocked out the street noise perfectly. We opted for their "discovery" package, which included free breakfast in the hotel each day (meats, cheeses, fruit, sausage, etc served buffet), in room treats each night (champagne, fruit, macarons, etc), and metro passes. The common areas (bar, lounge, salon, dining, and lobby) were all very charming, and the front desk staff always greeted us warmly. I would definitely stay here again on my next visit to Paris. (Yes, it is pricey, about 550 Euros/night for the room we had, but worth it if you like to travel in comfort. While it may not be the Shangri-La, Ritz-Carlton, or Four Seasons George V, it is definitely an upscale boutique hotel that caters to the client very well.)

Yelp
Perfect choice for our romantic weekend in Paris. Atmosphere is welcoming yet sophisticated. Reception was fantastic, room ample size (given Paris standards), breakfast buffet offered great options and attentive service. The best feature by far is the location. Just wonderful!

Yelp
My wife and I have stayed here two separate times. We love this area. The first time we stayed. It was wonderful. Staff was excellent, informative, proactive and professional. Second time we visited some rooms were being renovated (the one directly across the hall) and we were not told prior to our arrival from the US. It was a bit of a noise problem but the staff took good care of us. We adore the breakfast layout each morning. When we return to Paris, this hotel will still top our list and we always recommend it. March 2014 We returned to Paris and stayed again. Had a wonderful time. The staff was amazing as they have been in our past visits. Such a great location. Our room this time was a bit small. Our original room was closer to an area that was being renovated, so we were moved to another room to avoid any noise issues like the prior visit. Looking forward to another visit.

Yelp
We have stayed at this hotel 3 times. It is a charming hotel with a wonderful french breakfast buffet. The staff is great and we noticed little turnover over the last five years. Being in the Latin quarter it is surrounded by great Italian restaurants. Bar scene is vibrant to say the least. They have live jazz on the weekends. If you are looking for a great hotel on the left bank of the Seine, look no more! PS- They like Americans!

Yelp
We stayed at Hotel d'Aubusson a few months ago. I say that because I miss the hotel and the area, St-Germain de Pres. As I sit here thinking about the trip I find myself greatly missing the hotel itself, including the great jazz bar. The hotel is the best at which I've ever stayed, by far. The staff are amazing -- welcoming, efficient, and ready to assist with whatever one needs. I look forward to going back. If I were able, I'd go every year to Paris and stay at Hotel d'Aubusson.

Brian S.

Yelp
This is a great hotel in the 6th. The location is amazing and the staff is the highest quality. You wake up to one of the best breakfast spreads in Paris and the pool/workout area is a real treat. I loved our time here and recommend it to other travellers.

Yelp
Hotel d' Aubusson has everything I require from a good hotel on those rare trips when I actually want to spend a significant amount of time indoors. It's located in a converted old building in the posh St Germain area. This locality, which is just south of the river Seine, is a short walk from Notre Dame, and is full of restaurants and bars, and we did sample some great french and italian food there. Our room was in the top (fifth) floor. It was once an attic and had now been tastefully redecorated to include the bedroom and a living area up the stairs onto a loft. They do quite well with the in-room amenities. There are Hermes toiletries and also guidebooks on shopping and art in Paris. The room was cleaned even in the evening. The hotel does quite a lot to keep you indoors. There is free wifi everywhere within the hotel. They organise a wine hour every evening from 5pm to 6pm. You can choose to go for the Parisian tea time buffet, with champagne. To top it all, the coffee shop has live music all evening. The breakfast is served from 7am to 11:30 am in the dining hall, and for longer if you use room service. It was one of the better continental breakfasts that I have had. The sausages, the egg and the fried potatoes coupled with some very good croissants, were the best of the lot. At 25 euros a head, it was not cheap, but well worth it. The coffee shop serves some decent cocktail, and at reasonable (for Paris) prices. Aubusson's prices would seem steep if you are travelling alone, but for 2 or more people its merely above average and not outrageous. I look forward to staying here in future.

Yelp
Worth it. Staff is wonderful. Location is outstanding. There are dozens of restaurants nearby that are terrific. Jazz at night is fun and does not filter into rooms. We slept great every night with AC working like a charm. I would highly recommend this place. Not the cheapest, but not the most expensive and the level of service is fantastic without any snobbery.

Yelp
I'm not one to write bad reviews, but the lack of courtesy we received at this hotel prompts me to do so. We booked a room at this hotel through Booking.com for 3 nights in December 2019. Due to a series of unforeseen and unavoidable events, we were forced to delay our trip at the last minute by 2 days. Our first delay occurred while we were boarding our flight to Paris so I called the hotel immediately to notify them. I was told that the manager would respond the following morning. The next day, we had another forced airport delay, so I emailed immediately to notify the hotel (within 48 hours of our intended stay). I was told that the hotel required 72-hour notice on any cancellation. When we arrived at the hotel, I was told the general manager refused any professional monetary reimbursement. At $500+ a night, this small hotel was already overpriced but because of its strong ratings, we felt it was worth it. It turns out that we were charged more than $1,500 for a one-night stay. We were more than willing to forfeit a single night's stay, but the general manager (we were told) would not allow any discount. Had we stayed at a larger hotel, I'm sure a courtesy would have been extended. We have learned this lesson for the future--always stay at a reputable chain hotel while traveling in a foreign country.
