The MICHELIN Guide France 2022: stellar hotels for star-studded nights in Paris

"In Paris, one of the most-visited cities in the world, there are the old palace hotels, the new minimalist boutiques, and, as in this case, various shades in between. A newly minted classic, and a bit of a stylistic departure for Paris hotels, Hôtel Daniel comes outfitted in a sort of Silk Road, East-meets-West theme of old-world Parisian interiors with handmade Chinese wallpapers, Oriental rugs, exotic fine fabrics and Syrian antiques." - Le Guide MICHELIN

Hôtel Daniel

"How did it strike you on arrival? The 19th-century Hausmann exterior may be classic Paris, but the interiors take you on a journey to the east. Drawing on the owners' travels through Asia, designer Tarfa Salam has created a world of vibrant textures and colors, where Kazakh rugs and displays of Chinese calligraphy brushes live alongside custom-ordered De Gournay wallpaper emblazoned with garden motifs. Overstuffed furnishings and the warm color palette help keep things comfy and inviting. Nice. What’s the crowd like?Relais & Châteaux fans who value a boutique atmosphere, personal service, and a focus on tasty cuisine will feel right at home. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. Each of the 26 rooms and suites has been individually designed around a specific color scheme, with the hand-painted wallpaper, thick curtains, and fabrics all made to match. The antiques and custom-made furniture were selected to impart a homey vibe, so you'll find mini-bars hidden away inside Lebanese wooden cabinets, and traditional glass-fronted armories instead of closets. Rooms on lower floors may have terraces, while some higher-set options have Eiffel Tower views. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?Bed styles vary by room, but all are topped with one-hundred-percent cotton linens, and some have European-style bolster pillows. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? In keeping with the private home feel, the room amenities are useful, but limited: standard-sized LCD TVs, hairdryers, slippers, and bathrobes. Light sleepers will appreciate the double-glazed windows. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down.Bathrooms are lined with either Italian marble or Moroccan zelig tiles, and feature showers or shower/tub combos. Given the eastern flair of the hotel, the products from British brand Molton Brown seem a bit incongruous, but they do the trick. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?Wi-Fi is complimentary. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.Like any good host, the hotel caters to guests' needs--which here, translates to breakfast served made-to-order, at any time of day. An abundant afternoon tea (complete with homemade baked goods and an extensive tea menu) and weekend brunch are also on offer. Friends not staying in house can join you for drinks at the cozy bar. Bottom line: worth it, and why? Some may find the setting old fashioned or the amenities limited, but guests looking for a four-star full of charm will quickly feel at home." - Sandra Ramani

Hôtel de Montesquieu (Paris, Île-de-France) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The Hôtel de Montesquieu, an elegant boutique hotel just off the Avenue des Champs-Elysées, is a particularly fine expression of the Haussmannian vision. Its design adheres to the Baron’s rules — a symmetrical cut-stone facade, a height of no more than six stories, decorative balconies, and attic apartments on the uppermost level. While the collective objective is uniformity, the hotel’s interiors are one-of-a-kind, balancing traditional charm with a pared-down, almost minimalist sensibility." - Tablet Hotels

It could not be better. An ideally located boutique hotel which makes you feel as at home. Rightfully has 5 stars because the quality is of high level. The decor is fantastic. Breakfast has all you may need. Yannis at the reception was very helpful and very kind, being there any time we asked for something. Our stay in Paris was elevated to a very enjoyable one also because of this hotel. We shall definitely stay there again.

Overall: a disappointing experience. If you choose to put 5* to the hotel, that are the expectations and this hotel is not up to standard. Attic room we stayed in seemed forgotten - not renovated or maintained well, lacking in decor compared to other spaces in the hotel. - Room lacked adequate lighting. No ceiling light and bras/ table lamps couldn't provide enough light. - The enamel on the bathtub is chipped and seemed to be painted over with white paint which was also faking. Because of that I couldn't use it as it seemed unhygienic. - Bath is poorly designed. There's only a bathtub and no shower. So when you do shower, the floor becomes one big puddle. - USB charger next to the bed didn't work - Wi-Fi connection was very poor, disconnecting every 5-10 minutes and working on low speed. We didn’t really need it, but if you plan to work that’s a dealbreaker. - no tended bar or restaurant downstairs. And many-many small things that you don't expect to see in a 5* hotel: dirty ceiling in the bathroom, weird electrical cable sticking out from the floor next to the bath, paper cups instead of proper glasses for tooth brushes, no hair conditioner, uneven wall socket (poorly installed), paper sign in the toilet to wash down only toilet paper makes it feel like a public bathroom. Garbage bag and cleaning supplies were left next to the elevator on our floor. The front desk staff went out of their way to bring us some comfort after the disappointing experience by offering late checkout and complimentary champagne, but there’s only so much they can do. Overall, was quite disappointed as it was a romantic anniversary getaway for us, hoping to add a luxurious experience to everyday life.

Staying at this boutique hotel made our trip to Paris special. The hotel is in an excellent location just off the Champ de Élysées and within walking distance to many of the great sights of Paris. The hotel is extremely clean and comfortable with staff who go above and beyond to provide the best service possible. Ioannis was especially friendly and helpful. He gave us the warmest greeting on arrival and provided us with lots of helpful information . Breakfast was lovely too and a very peaceful way to start the day. We can't thank the staff enough for making us feel so welcome and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a great place to stay in Paris.

Had the loveliest stay here last month! After a long and tiring travel day, we were glad to finally arrive at the hotel where we were surprised to find out that we’d been upgraded! The room was so spacious and gorgeous, we loved coming back at the end of the day to the most relaxing and luxurious space. Great location on a quiet street yet still within walking distance to the metro, shopping, and restaurants. Staff were also very welcoming and friendly. We even met a fellow Indonesian staff (I believe his name was Thomas?) who made us feel right at home during our stay! No regrets staying here, will definitely be returning on our next visit!

⚠️ THIEF IN THIS HOTEL — DO NOT STAY HERE!!! ⚠️ NOT FIVE STAR !!! This was the WORST hotel experience I’ve ever had and I travel a lot ! 1️⃣ At check-in, the front desk staff helped with our luggage but accidentally dropped a wine glass, spilling wine all over my brand-new 4 clothes from Barcelona and a gifted stuffed animal from Switzerland. When I politely asked him to clean it, he refused, saying “it was just an accident”! I had to push him to get the manager involved to even get the clothes washed. 2️⃣ The next morning, I woke up to the sound of someone entering our room without permission while we were sleeping! I checked and saw my clothes had been washed but still wet, so I just hang them in the closet. No notice, no explanation. That already felt like a major violation of privacy. This is a five star hotel service ????? 3️⃣ When we checked out, I completely forgot I had hung the clothes in the closet — because I NEVER do that at hotels. I realized later and called the hotel immediately. They said they’d check and get back to me… but they never did. I had to call for three days straight and even send emails. The final response? “Sorry, we didn’t find anything.” Which means: the housekeeping stole them. We never requested housekeeping during our 2-night stay. So no one should’ve even entered the room. I honestly feel so lucky I didn’t ask for cleaning or they might’ve taken my Hermès bags or my diamond jewelry. 4️⃣ To make things even worse, the hotel required us to leave our room key at the front desk every time we left the building — something I’ve never experienced anywhere else in the world. That’s a huge security risk and makes it even easier for things to go missing without any accountability. 🚨 STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL. THIS IS NOT A FIVE STAR HOTEL !!! Security is nonexistent, staff is irresponsible, and there are thieves walking freely through the guest rooms.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Montesquieu. It is a smaller hotel tucked a few streets away from the energetic Champs-Élysées Avenue. The hotel staff were very friendly and upgraded us to a suite room which was beautiful and spacious. There is a small gym with treadmills and multi-purpose weight machine. The location is convenient for walking to subway stations or walking to numerous nearby cafes and restaurants. Highly recommended!

Location was fine, and they were nice here. But not sure how they call themselves a 5 star. There is really nothing downstairs in the lobby (some free croissants that were there ALL day getting stale). The room had an awkward layout with 3 rooms in a straight line. Not much table space to put stuff especially in the bathroom. Worse part is, we were given a handicap room without even asking us. I thought all rooms had curtains between the toilet and the shower but then thought about it more...no, everyone else has doors. Its terrible when trying to use the toilet with others in the room. The room was hot due to a warm day in April. The front desk had no fans and the AC system was still in heat mode.

We had an excellent stay at this hotel for our first time in Paris. Upon arrival, we were surprised with a complimentary upgrade which was a nice surprise as the room we were given was spacious, clean and comfortable. The 24/7 staff were extremely attentive, helpful and lovely. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Paris!
