Items You Can (and Can't!) Take from Your Hotel Room - AFAR

"Visitors commonly take ceramic candleholders made by local Marbella potters, a nod to the property's practice of featuring and gifting locally made artisan pieces." - Nora Zelevansky

Hotel Don Pepe Gran Meliá | Hotels in Worldwide

Families looking to make the most of their trip to Marbs should book themselves at the Hotel Don Pepe Gran Meliá, a classic property which has undergone a significant revamp and occupies one of the nicest spots in the city, with the Sierra Blanca at its back. Book a pair of interconnected rooms and you can have your own space while still being on hand for the kids. Open your curtains of a morning and you’ll be greeted either by the soaring mountain peaks or, on the other side of the property, by stunning views out over a swathe of green space studded with huge intersecting circular swimming pools, with the twinkling blue sea beyond. Breakfasts are taken out on the lawns, with a fabulous buffet and first class coffee – still something of a rarity in Spain – or in the brilliant lounge, which offers gourmet food and free-flowing drinks all day to those who’ve booked a Red Level room. The highly proficient kids’ club is run by a group of cheerful Spanish youngsters, who engage the children in activities, crafts and table tennis tournaments for happy hours at a time. A first-class poolside bistrot called Bardo turns out delightful salads and pizza, and it’s easy to find most of the day has got away from you before you have had a chance to get more than a couple of chapters into your holiday potboiler. Stroll down the beachside promenade to the historic centre of Marbella and you’ll find a remarkably attractive place, all narrow cobblestone alleyways of whitewashed houses lined with hanging baskets and ancient tiles. Artisanal boutiques rub shoulders with ancient chapels and the central square, filled with orange trees, is a wonderful place to sit and people-watch. The Contemporary Engraving Museum is an inspiring spot, featuring work by Miró and Picasso among others. In the evening there are some excellent restaurants in town, as well as on site. Pick of the bunch at Don Pepe are the Erre grill, where tender meats and veg are thrown on the flames to great effect, and Tahini, an exceptionally fine Japanese restaurant, where you can enjoy toothsome sushi and floatingly-light teppanyaki on a balcony overlooking the ocean. Inhouse babysitters will come and look after the kids if you fancy a night out as a couple. When it comes to exploring, there’s much more than just beachlife on offer. Dolphin-watching cruises, canyoning, quad-biking and winery tours are all on offer nearby, and it’s a great starting point for going further afield, with easy access to the ancient cities of Estepona, Cadiz and Seville. - Timeout

We went for a mini-break during which my husband celebrated a birthday, "the best ever", he declared (and he has had more than 80!) This was mostly due to the excellence of the Don Pepe Hotel (slightly enhanced by perfect weather). In every area the hotel was superb, the very comfortable room, the superb breakfast buffet which provided a wide choice of meats, cheeses, fruits plus individually cooked items, the wide choice of restaurants for lunch and dinner, but above all the friendly, high quality of service. The staff in every department, without exception, were happy to go above and beyond to ensure our total satisfaction. We are left with a lovely memory, thanks to all especially the staff of the Erre restaurant.

Stunning setting and phenomenal service - both combined to make this a dream hotel for us. We were celebrating and are much indebted to Francisco for his kindness and professionalism and for going out of his way to help us . Francisco is a real ambassador for the Gran Melia . - this is our first stay at Melia and because of Francisco and the wider team we will definitely make Melia our first choice when looking for a hotel. Thank you Francisco. All the staff we met were lovely . A big shout out to the breakfast team you were magnificent - pleasant and helpful despite busy service . We loved Lucia’s smile and warmth, Yvonne’s welcomes, and the gentlemen and ladies who served us were amazing. The young man who looks after the water and room refreshments was so friendly and chatty and our housekeeping and evening service ladies were wonderful. The food was of a high standard at breakfast and at Bardot and the pool. We also enjoyed a meal at China Crown and the ambience at buzzy Cappuccino. The pool concierges were great always there to sort a sunbed or bring a drink or snack. Our stay was pure bliss and we really hope we can return and enjoy the reinvented Don Pepe and in the meantime sample a few other locations with Melia. Thank you you made us very happy

Dear Sir or Madam, We would like to kindly share with you our review of our recent stay at Hotel Don Pepe Gran Meliá. Please find our detailed feedback below. Positives: • Excellent location, very close to the sea. • Beautiful and well-maintained garden and pool area. • Very good breakfast with fresh fruit and made-to-order items like omelets or boiled eggs. • The ERRE restaurant offers great steaks and a nice atmosphere. • Friendly, helpful staff and convenient on-site parking. Negatives: • The hotel clearly shows its age and no longer meets modern five-star standards. Carpets in the hallways are heavily worn. • Our room faced the inner courtyard, and every morning around 6:30 a.m. we were woken by truck noise and the sound of breaking glass, likely from bottle collection near the main entrance – clearly audible even from the 5th floor. • The windows, probably original from the 1960s, offered almost no sound insulation and couldn’t be closed properly. • The sofa bed for two children was only about 1 meter wide, with a completely worn-out mattress where you could feel the metal frame. • Blankets had no proper duvet covers – just sheets wrapped around them, constantly slipping off. Overall impression: While the hotel shines with its beautiful location, pleasant outdoor spaces, and friendly service, the rooms and windows are outdated, and noise insulation is poor. A renovation would be needed to bring it back to true five-star quality.

From the moment we arrived back at Don Pepe we felt 'back at home.' Lovely warm welcome and speedy check in to a Red Level Room. Beautiful sea view room - which was serviced daily by the charming room team. All the staff are amazing and go out of their way to make sure you are enjoying your stay. The beautiful grounds help you to relax between meals. Hopefully the 'Breakfast Room' will return once the hotel has been refurbished. Can't wait to return in 2027

We stayed three nights to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary. The staff were all amazing and looked after us so well. We were upgraded to a Royal Suite and given champagne and strawberries. All lovely touches to make us feel special. ||The pool area was great and lovely views over the sea. Stewards look after you very well.||We are breakfast in the Red Room and also some snacks at lunchtime. ||The first night we ate in Erree, good food and great service. The third night in the Japanese restaurant - again wonderful food. Big shout out for Isabel in ‘guest experience’ at the Don Pepe, Marbella- what a professional! She is a class act and a great ambassador for the hotel and the hotel group. From day one she tried her very best to ensure we were comfortable and had a good holiday. A real asset to the team. Abel, too was most helpful and deserves a mention. Many thanks

Yelp
The full name of this hotel is: Don Pepe Gran Meliá. It is a great place, located just about 15 minutes walking from the old city center of Marbella. It is also right on the boardwalk that runs along the beach, and that you can use to get to the city center. The boardwalk is full of restaurants and bars, which makes the location of the hotel even better. The hotel facilities are in great shape, spacious rooms with views of the Mediterranean Sea, large outdoor pool, heated indoor pool, large fitness center, 3 restaurants, lots of lounge chairs around the pool deck, as well as, on the lawn area next to the pool. Another big plus for this hotel is the breakfast buffet they offer and that is included with the room rate. Huge selection of breads, meats, eggs, juices and fresh fruit. Also, the service in general is great, in all of the areas of the hotel. Excellent place to vacation in Marbella.

Yelp
Great place to stay right on the beachfront and boardwalk. The Décor could use some updating but overall still great in book! Definitely recommended!
