Hotel du Champ de Mars | Best places to stay in Paris

"This lovingly tended, family-run hotel is in the upmarket seventh arrondissement, with the fancy food shops of Rue Cler in one direction and the Eiffel Tower and Champ de Mars gardens in the other. You’ll need to reserve some time in advance to bag a room; the hotel’s personal feel and the charm of owners Francois and Stephan Gourdal make it one of city’s most popular affordable hotels. Room rates are great value, considering the smart setting. The 25 rooms, in yellow or cornflower blue, are light and fresh with floral prints and fresh flowers. Ask for a street-view room on the upper floor for a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower. " - Anna Brooke

We stayed in this wonderful hotel for ten nights from 28 August and loved it. The room was so lovely and comfortable, air conditioned and had the most beautiful wall coverings and an excellent bathroom. Cute table and chairs which we used a lot and the most delightful French door window. On the third floor, we were delighted to discover they had a beautiful spiral staircase but even better… a lift big enough for us both. Location is fantastic with many restaurants, groceries, fruit, boulangeris and even a laundromat in close proximity and lovely boutique shops too. All the way from New Zealand on our trip of a lifetime this was the best start for us. Best part? The wonderful, friendly staff who put up with my wonky French and just made us feel so special. Thank you so much. If we could have spent the next 30 days there instead of continuing on, we would have! Merci Beaucoup!

Perfect location and lodging for our first Paris stay. The hotel was immaculate and rooms, while small, were very comfortable. Nice, updated bathrooms as well. The staff was more than accommodating and really made our stay enjoyable. We opted for the breakfast which was a good decision, a very delightful continental breakfast that gave us a good start to the day of sightseeing. We will be back!

Our first time in France or EU. Stayed for 3 nights. Great location for dinning and walking. Hotel is small with narrow halls, tiny elevator and small rooms. My wife loved the small chairs in the lobby. Very clean and well maintained. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is great and the coffee is good. I would recommend to adults, kids may find it small. Would stay again. Had a great time here. Thanks to the staff.

Our three-day visit to Paris was exceptional. This was, in part, due to the quality and location of this wonderful little hotel. It was our second stay in Hotel Champ du Mars. Since our last stay in 2009, the hotel had undergone some renovations. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The continental breakfast is filling and tasty. The rooms, while small, are comfortable.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel, would stay here again. Very clean, lovely decor, they had material for wallpaper. . . . . Very fancy. Lovely size bathroom, very luxurious. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Downsides not having tea/coffee in the room and it's a set menu for breakfast. Over all fabulous stay ❤️

Very quaint hotel in a quiet neighborhood in Paris. The rooms are so cute and breakfast delicious. Easy walking to attractions and a bike rent stand on the corner. Rue de cler has many restaurant options and cafe style bars. Nice French stay that felt authentic and not a big hotel chain.

Great hotel in a great part of Paris. The hotel is in the Rue Cler district, which is close to many sights, including the Eiffel Tower. There is a metro station (Ecole Militaire) a short walk from the hotel. The hotel is on a side street, which made it very quiet at night. It also has air conditioning, which was great in the recent heat wave. Rooms are small, but they have everything you need. The bathroom was small as well, but it had the best shower of any hotel I've ever stayed in. Not exaggerating! Everyone was very nice, from check-in to departure. Any time we had a question the hotel staff was very patient and helpful. Lots of cafes and restaurants close to the hotel. I highly recommend it, and would definitely stay here again.

We loved our stay at this cute boutique hotel located a short walk from the Eiffel Tower, the seine river, Les Invalides and more! Located steps off of Rue Cler with tons of cafes, markets and shops. While our room was small, it was exactly what we were hoping for in an authentic European hotel experience and had everything we needed. We were especially grateful for the AC in the hotel during the recent heat wave as well as the yummy Parisian breakfast available every morning. We had two rooms for our party of three and would absolutely stay here again!

Yelp
Loved my stay at Hotel du Champ de Mars! I just got home from a week in Paris with my girlfriends. Hotel du Champ de Mars is the perfect place to stay! The staff was extremely helpful with directions, making reservations and recommendations for our group. We enjoyed breakfast in the morning and loved relaxing in the beautifully decorated lobby. The room is small, quaint and very clean. The bed was comfortable. The area is perfectly located in a quaint neighborhood with many restaurants, grocery stores and shops nearby. Also, the Ecole Militaire metro stop is very close. I give this hotel 5 stars and would give more if I could. Merci beaucoup HCM for making our stay perfect!

Yelp
This is an absolutely beautiful, charming, and special hotel that I have now stayed in two times. The staff are impeccable, the service is extraordinary, the location, in Rue Cler near a metro stop and the Eiffel Tower is ideal. Every detail is attended to at the Hotel and the staff could not be more gracious. A beautiful, charming establishment. I cannot wait to return.

Yelp
Hotel du Champ de Mars is a charming Parisian boutique hotel, perfectly located, just off rue Cler with its bistros, markets and cafes. On our second visit to the hotel, in Oct. 2022, we discovered just how special staff is. After checking out, taking taxi to DCG, my husband realized he'd left his wallet in the room! Yikes! A panicked call to Francoise, at reception, began the ordeal of the traveling wallet. Francoise found the wallet by the time we made it through security, and we decided the only way for us to get it was for her to mail it. We exchanged several phone calls and the next morning, she reported she had braved a long line at the P.O. and it was on its way. She refused to accept payment for postage or her trouble! A week later, Francoise emailed to see if it had arrived. We were still worrying, but hopeful it would arrive within a few days...on day 11 it arrived, to our great relief! What could have been a disastrous end to a wonderful trip to France, is now a treasured memory of the kindness and hospitality of both Francoise and the wonderful Hotel du Champ de Mars.

Yelp
This boutique hotel will forever be my home while in Paris. It's simply darling, located steps from Rue Cler and blocks from the Eiffel Tower. Too, there's a small grocery next door, for anything you might have forgotten or need. The lobby is charming, decorated in chartreuse and violet, and the desk attendants were professional and kind. The rooms are...small. Very small. But this might be expected of a hotel so perfectly placed and reasonably priced. Aside from being small, the rooms are lovely (and very tidy). The bathroom was surprisingly modern and felt so CLEAN (I love that!). There is a small nightstand and lamp on either side of the bed, a tiny table and two chairs...and a window that looks out onto Champ de Mars (and the Eiffel Tower if you're lucky!!). Noises can be heard, though it seemed everyone was very respectful of one another. Not once was I irritated by sounds heard from neighbors' rooms. Worth mentioning, I can assure you, there is an ELEVATOR. If you happen to be staying on the fourth floor, this is of consequence - if you've ever had the displeasure of climbing that many stairs, luggage in tow. ;) I can't wait to come back - not only for Paris, but to stay in this beautiful, little hotel.

Yelp
We stayed her six nights this past March and it did not disappoint. Located right off Rue Cler there are numerous dining options. The rooms are typical Paris size, clean and well maintained. The staff is friendly and helpful. We love the quiet and private feel of this hotel. Even though Rue Cler can be busy we were not disturbed at night. We will return and look forward to to our future stays.

Yelp
My wife and I loved the charm & character this hotel had to offer. If you're an American traveling to Paris and are turned off by pretentious, & extravagant hotels; then this is the place for you. While the rooms are small, you are afforded all of the privacy you'd ever need in this quaint family run hotel. The location is absolutely great... very close to the Eiffel Tower, Rue Clear, Napoleon's tomb, and the metro. If you enjoy being out late at night...don't worry about the fact that this is a small hotel. They will make every effort to accommodate your late night adventures! P.S, If you're crazy and are not truly enjoying the amazing food that Paris has to offer and are craving a burger, please do not go to a McCrapDonalds... Simply head across the street to the cafe that's caddy corner to this wonderful hotel, and ask bartender Clement for a Bedford Burger!

Yelp
This was a Rick Steve's recommendation but we did a little extra research before we booked. My father stayed at a local Novotel, and was sick when he saw our hotel for a lower price. First, the rooms are absolutely charming! We did not request it, but we did get a room looking out on the street and could see the top of the Eiffel Tower from our window. The street was quintessentially Parisian. The neighbor hood was secluded and homey, but convenient to the Eiffel Tower and metro lines. We found that we would rather go back to the hotel in the evenings and eat in the neighborhood because the food was cheaper and of better quality than the tourist areas. There is no air conditioning, which might turn off a lot of Americans, but there are two large windows that give a great breeze if you can tolerate the street noise. The bathroom was small, but spotless and modern. The wifi could be slow at times during the day but it's included in the room. The staff was all courteous and helpful and everyone spoke fluent English. There is a breakfast for 9 euro which was good and fast, but after the first day we ventured out into the neighborhood for a slightly cheaper alternative. We will certainly be staying there our next time in Paris!

Yelp
My first time in Paris. Over on Tripadvisor.com you'll get some bad reviews of this hotel, but, ...our experience was wonderful!! Francoise and Stephane were wonderful, as was the entire staff! The rooms are comfy and clean and were just what we needed for our trip. Great location, ...this Rue Cler area is fantastic, ...do NOT miss Saturday morning on Rue Cler, and please walk the entire blocks from Rue Cler down to St Dominique, to LaTour Mambourgh and back to Rue Grenelle and back to Rue Cler again .....great shopping, browsing, eating and drinking and picture taking. Saturday morning on Rue Cler is a picture takers PARADISE of typical Parisian life! Oh, I almost forgot, .... the owners dog, ...a beautiful, friendly cocker, in black, gray and white, ...Canelle ... Thanks for a wonderful time Francoise and Stephane, we will be back!! Merci beaucoup, .... au revoir!

Yelp
Hotel du Champ de Mars is in a wonderful location! It is nestled off Rue Cler and surrounded by wonderful cafes, bars, pastry shops and just a few blocks from the Metro or Eiffel Tower. The lobby is cute, and the staff at the front desk are welcoming! The rooms are very tight quarters (can't accommodate more than one suitcase per person), but they are quaintly decorated and clean, with modern bathrooms. This hotel offers a Parisian Inn charm, in a very Parisian feeling part of town. We especially enjoyed dining at Cafe du Marche just steps outside the hotel. I would definitely consider staying here again!

Yelp
tiny room, but very cozy and romantic. best part about this hotel is the rue cler which is right outside. ALL the provisions you will need for a few days in paris. great location right by the eiffel tower. and in a neat residential community - not a ton of tourists.

Robert N.

Yelp
This is a nice little hotel a rocks throw from the Eiffel Tower. In fact, I can see it from my window. It is close to the RER, the regional train you take to Versailles. And it is close to the Metro. Best of all, it is right next door to the Rue Cler. Rick Steves describes the Rue Cler as a village in Paris. A lot of good restaurants, bakeries, and fruit markets. Room charge includes a good-sized breakfast. Rooms are small but worth the price and they are air conditioned.

Yelp
As others have already pointed out this was a Rick Steve's recommendation. It was a very cute little hotel and we had a very nice little court yard as well. They have a breakfast but it is not free. The guy at the desk was the one that suggested we eat at bistro Chef France which I gave a 5 star review of. We would not have found that restaurant without him so I was thankful about that. The pastry shops in the area do not open till around 9am so if you want pastries early buy them the evening before they close. A nice little place with wonderful service. 4 stars!

Yelp
Absolutely loved it. Perfect location, great price, clean, cute rooms, updated bathrooms and an elevator! Take advantage of the Rue de Cler market on your doorstep and pick up items for a picnic and go camp out by the Eiffel Tower which is a stones throw away. I would most definitely pick this as our home base for our next Paris adventure.

Yelp
Great little hotel in a nice neighborhood. The rooms are clean and quiet (even those facing street). Owners and staff are friendly. Good value at 140 euros per night. Many outstanding restaurants (self-catering, casual, upscale). And, it's just a block from Ecole Militaire (sp?) Metro station.

Yelp
My family stayed for 3 days this summer. We had a laundry bag with 4 days worth of clothes in our room on the floor. When we returned from our outing on the day the laundry bag (which was cloth) was gone. We were told that it was assumed that it was trash. The trash basket had not been emptied and the laundry bag was on the opposite side of the room from the trash basket. We have been referred to the insurance company and they have said that the hotel is not responsible, that it was our fault. The owners/managers have said that it is our fault. NEVER AGAIN!

Yelp
Small hotel with minimum, but necessary comforts. Located next to a green market and cafes. Located next to Metro's 7 line. Staff was courteous.

Yelp
Stayed here over New Years week. Nice little hotel in a great location. Can't complain about the stay except that we booked the room months in advance for 120 euros a night (with confirmation). When we checked out they charged us 130 euros. When we emailed the owner, the reply was basically "sorry, we changed the rate." Would have been nice to know before we checked in. Nice hotel but terrible customer service.
