"Belle-Île-en-Mer's emblematic Hôtel du Phare (1880) and its restaurant have been redesigned and revamped by a famous architect. The decor is original, juxtaposing bright colours with the black and white of the Breton flag. The menu focuses on marine flavours, with dishes such as spider crab in its shell, bisque, celeriac ravioli with spider crab; viennoise of sea bass cooked on a stone, artichoke fricassee with clams and black garlic. As much as he can, the chef uses quality ingredients, often from the island (eg lamb reared in Bangor, honey, organic vegetables and fish from a local fisherman). There is a lovely terrace overlooking the harbour, and further dining options at Le Bistrot." - Michelin Inspector

Very disappointed with my moules marinières this evening - this restaurant is supposed to be good at seafood but my moules marinières was virtually tasteless with not even a trace of white wine. I’ve done better moules marinières myself. The best thing about the meal was the hot frites!

Popped in for a meal last week and was blown away! The location is pretty, the service fantastic and the food. . .just incredible! The pan fried sea bass was amazing! Will definitely visit again!

*amended rating to 1 star because a disgusting child's shoe was found underneath our bed (see picture). How can this room have possibly been cleaned...looking at the carpet in closer detail - the floor is absolutely filthy and they have put a rug over it to cover it up. Unacceptable. Dated hotel in need of serious renovations. Great location for visitors needing to catch a ferry. They charge €5 per bike should you need to store it at the hotel and require you to be present at 10pm to store it away you cannot store it anytime before) and you must remove it at 8am (they actually stipulated 7am Initially). Bar closes at 9:30 pm. You are not allowed to eat food or drink alcohol in your room. Breakfast is a simple offering but the lady who runs it is sweet. Upon check out you are unable to leave your luggage at the hotel if you need to depart later in the day. The manager seemed curt and unfriendly. Reasonable value for money but based on my experience over a 2 night stay I am unable to recommend this hotel.

The Phare has always been our place to have our last meal in France before going on the ferry , we always had fantastic meal . After checking on line we saw they were opened until 2:30 pm for lunch . We arrived at 13:40 and were told they were not serving anymore , anything at that point any kind of foodwill have been good as we have been travelling for over 3 hours . But no the woman ignored us at the beginning, and she just said the kitchen was closed and when back to what she was doing . The place was busy either still empty table . All I can said they have lost our custom as we have discovered another fantastic places around the corner

My mother and I do not eat fish or dairy, so the only option for us in the restaurant was a lettuce and tomato side salad (however this was not the problem). Both our vegetable salad sides then came with a random (and well hidden) bit of salmon in the bottom of the bowl. We had already told the waiter we do not eat fish and the fact that it was only a single small piece of salmon at the bottom of each bowl seemed intentional. The room and the staff other than (I assume) the chef were passable.

Not a great experience, perhaps the worst hotel I have stayed in in Europe. Booked 3 rooms with family. The room smelt very stale, the toilet and bowl was encrusted in specks of excrement, the shower tray was cracked and the wall paper was peeling off the walls. The shower in my son's room was non functional. Yes, the location was convenient for the ferry but that's surely the only reason this hotel can get away with having such incredibly low standards.

Room is tired and very 1970s, great location hence the price , 1 min to port, it’s dirty outside , very plastic plants inside- is all tatty and plastic , shower hot, but shower head hanging off, slippery shower floor so be careful , bed comfy which was good and big windows for the air, NO A/C, check out is shocking NO ONE at reception, all locked off, had to throw the room key on the reception floor through a gap in the door - this is 7am and hotel is full - not good at all, they say parking is free ITS NOT, parking available over road - 1 min walk if that and over night around €3. Location great but better hotels for the money. I will stay at the new BB hotel next time as same price and modern , very. Lose to the port aswell, this hotel is a BB not a 2 star, it’s a fancy 1 star that is equivalent to a run down Blackpool hotel

The room had a very unpleasant smell. The toilet was spalterred with drops of dried excrement. The shower floor was cracked, wall paper peeling off the walls, and low level cosmetic damage everywhere. Location convenient for ferry but I'd honestly rather sleep in my car.
