Hotel du Vin Stratford | Best places to stay in Stratford-upon-Avon |

"Ideally situated in the heart of town, just a couple of minutes’ walk from Shakespeare’s birthplace and the RSC, this former gentleman’s club and registry office now sports classic Hotel du Vin style – slick rooms with dark blue walls and sumptuous beds, a buzzy bistro and a pleasing sense of indulgence.    The cherry on the cake is the outdoor terrace; an oasis from the tourist bustle outside the door, serving drinks and dinner outside for as long as the weather allows.   This is a great choice for those wanting a cosy yet stylish boutique, somewhere slick and unfussy, that’s walking distance to all of Stratford’s main sights.  " - Annabelle Thorpe

Went on a Sunday evening which may explain my experience. ||Hotel du Vin is a beautiful venue, and it would hard to match it locally. I haven't stayed there but am sure the rooms are delightful and of high standard.||Our meal was disappointing. I had the impression that not much is cooked to order as most dishes I now see could have been prepared in advance and reheated. IMO most French cuisine is much better freshly cooked, and on reflection I realise the menu does have dishes that can be precooked and then reheated. There wasn't a lot of action from what I saw of the workings of the kitchen on that evening. Fair enough Sundays are usually quieter and the restaurant wasn't busy. ||The food was good but not great. The service was marvellous. We were made to feel very welcome, our waiter for the evening could not have been more helpful, and the young lady assisting and learning was thoroughly delightful.

Wonderful stay in a great location. Many restaurants and hotels in the heart of this historical town. But Hotel du Vin and Bistro is a gem amongst all.|We received great customer service throughout our stay.|Room was spacious, comfortable. Bath tub near our bed. Lounge area within the room. |Delicious food served, well presented in a friendly and professional manner by the bistro staff. |Many thanks for the chefs, Zoltan, Orsi Dave and Barry. We had our favourite dish the Chateau Briand steak.|Special thanks to Mary, the breakfast leader who kept us entertained with her bubbly and attentive personality. Same as Georgia during the dinner time.|Compliments for the professional reception team. Claire and her colleauges. They all made our anniversary stay a memorable one.|Although it was a short getaway this time, two nights. Definitely will be back soon in the future. Only can recommend.

My husband and I booked a weekend away with the intention of having some time together to relax and enjoy some good food. We had our evening meals on both evenings in the hotel and cannot fault the food or the service. We enjoyed the cocktails on Friday and the taster menu with wine pairing on Saturday was superb. The hotel was clean and inviting. The staff were graciously attentive and made us feel very welcome. Unfortunately the position of our room was where it let the weekend down. Our first room was on the third floor with a balcony. Amazing room (although I agree with some of the other reviews a little on the dark side). We were so happy until we went upstairs to sleep. Which we didn't get much of due to the kitchen extractor fan and air conditioning unit thundering through the room walls. It had been noisy when we arrived and we had been assured it would turn off when the kitchen closed. My husband went downstairs at 1:40am after giving up trying to sleep to find someone to turn it off. It took a while to fall asleep again and at 5:30am they were turned on again! Ruined the next day we were so exhausted. The lovely staff did their utmost to find us another room and we were moved to the first floor directly below this room. It was still noisy. You wouldn't want to sit on the balcony, we didn't. We managed, through exhaustion, to sleep better that night. We weren't very impressed to be told that "no one else has ever complained". Really? I can't believe that at over £200 a night per room! I expect a good night's sleep at least! We would love to stay here again but we would want a room facing the car park! How sad is that?

I don’t usually stay in boutique-style hotels, but I was booked into Hotel Du Vin for work and was genuinely blown away. From the moment we checked in, it felt special. Each room is named after a vineyard instead of numbered, which was such a quirky and fun touch. The decor throughout the hotel was beautiful—elegant, warm, and inviting. I treated myself to a glass of the house rosé and honestly, it was the best house wine I’ve ever had. I’d heard great things about the food, so I chose to stay in rather than explore the nearby town (which is within easy walking distance). I’m so glad I did—dinner was absolutely incredible. The food was flawless, easily a 10/10, and the service matched it. The hotel was spotless, and while the car park wasn’t huge, we had no trouble finding a space. Overall, a lovely stay, and I’d absolutely return—or happily try another Du Vin location if I’m travelling elsewhere. Highly recommend!

We had a lovely two night stay at Hotel Du Vin. The location is fantastic and the room was very well appointed. Our check in was quick and easy, and the fact that the rooms are named after wines instead of numbered is a nice touch. The morning breakfast was delicious, especially the eggs Benedict. Mary in the breakfast room was attentive and super friendly!

I met with an old friend at the hotel yesterday as it marked a good halfway spot between her in Essex and me in Liverpool! We ended up staying for hours, chatting and having a very leisurely lunch. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. The food was divine and as a vegan I didn’t hit the usual unimaginative fare but was offered wonderful food! We were going to go for a walk but in the end we just stayed put as we were so comfortable and made so welcome. We will be doing this again! Lovely place!

We stayed at Hotel Du Vin over the bank holiday and found it to be in a great location, with stylishly decorated rooms and genuinely friendly staff. However, a few key issues took away from the overall experience. Our biggest disappointment was with the room booking. We reserved two deluxe rooms but only discovered at dinner that one of us had been placed in a lower-tier room. It turned out the hotel was fully booked and had downgraded one room without informing us. While they did eventually upgrade the room for the second night and removed some restaurant charges, the lack of transparency left a sour note. Had we not discussed it between ourselves, we may never have known. In terms of facilities, the bar was frequently unmanned, which meant we were often left waiting to order drinks. When we did manage to order, several items on the menu were unavailable. Breakfast was good in terms of hot options but the continental breakfast was a little underwhelming—more variety in fresh fruit and pastries would have made a noticeable difference. Given the premium pricing and the hotel's rating, we expected a smoother, more consistent experience in these areas.

Very comfortable hotel. Not far to walk to theatres, shops etc. Didn’t give five stars as there is not enough parking spaces and you have to pay in outside car park. Very dark inside, rooms as well. |Very clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again.
