"This lovely restaurant with its delightful terrace overlooking the garden serves regional and seasonal cuisine with the odd nod to international culinary traditions. A friendly and well-drilled front-of-house team help to create an inviting atmosphere. Tip: If you want to be close to the action, book the Chef's Table in the kitchen ( minimum 6 people). And if you wish to spend a little longer here, Hotel Engel Obertal offers comfortable, stylish guestrooms and fantastic facilities to help make your stay a relaxing one." - Michelin Inspector

The lobby and overall hotel are beautiful, and the location is excellent—surrounded by stunning natural views. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the room service was also good. We stayed at this hotel in June, when the weather was quite hot. Unfortunately, the room did not have air conditioning, nor was there an eco-friendly alternative like a portable or cable-based cooling system. I’m not sure why—perhaps it’s part of an effort to reduce environmental impact given the natural surroundings. That said, the hotel staff did provide a portable fan, and we truly appreciated that effort and showed they were attentive to our concerns. However, this was not enough and it did not cool the room. To cool the room, we had to open the windows, but there were no screens or nets, so flies, bees, and mosquitoes easily got inside. Despite keeping the windows open, the room remained uncomfortably hot, and we struggled to fall asleep for several nights

We had a wonderful stay at Engel Obertal. We decided to book a chalet as we brought our dog along, which we through would be more practical. The hotel and the chalet aswell as the whole installations were perfect. We had a wonderful time for our 3 night's stay. The staff was really kind and friendly. The whole area offers perfect opportunities for nice walks, long and short ones. The spa is also very nice. Can only recommend to pay it a visit.

Wonderful! The staff, the food, the atmosphere, the walks near by, the spa facilities. We really enjoyed ourselves and we enjoyed the piece of black forest cake on our way home. Many thanks and we look forward to our return. B&G

A True Five-Star Experience Hotel Engel Obertal is truly a five-star experience in every way. The beautiful location sets the stage for a memorable stay, and the modern rooms are absolutely spotless and leave nothing to be desired. The incredibly friendly staff go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and catered to. One of the highlights was the flexibility with dining options. Whether opting for the exquisite five-course menu or à la carte, everything could be decided on short notice, which was perfect for us. The food is simply outstanding, starting with the breakfast that leaves no wish unfulfilled. The wellness area is nothing short of spectacular and has rightfully been awarded multiple times. We visited as a family with our three-year-old child, and everything was seamless, comfortable, and truly enjoyable. A perfect stay from start to finish – we can’t wait to return!

This was our first stay in a wellness hotel in Germany and I wasn't expecting half of what we found. The hotel itself is beautiful, a bit of a mix between old style German and modern. We opted for an older room rather than the various newer rooms or chalets and the room was absolutely fine. Spacious, very clean and a fridge. The only thing is, it doesn't have AC which was slightly difficult in 32 degree heat at night. ||The location is stunning, lots of walks around. We drove 30minutes to Klosterle Shleifer which was stunning. The attention to detail in the hotel also is quite impressive. ||The breakfast is one of the best I have had outside Asia, very healthy options (the paleo cranberry bread was wonderful), and sparkling wine (not so healthy). We tried lunch once, we hadn't realised this was included (they have two plans, the basic includes breakfast and lunch and another plan which includes dinner). We didn't actually eat dinner at the hotel although I wish we had (I think it was 65€ each). ||The whole setting is wonderful, with 4 swimming pools, lots of sunbeds, sauna and fitness pavilion (this was mostly cardio machines and lacked more free weights, which would be my only criticism). ||The staff were also truly wonderful, incredibly friendly. The demographic of guests changed during our stay from more mature in the week to younger couples at the weekend and a few young families. ||We will hopefully be back soon. One bit of advice, if you plan on doing a bike ride based on their routes, I'd advise taking an e-bike. The standard bikes aren't very robust and it's very hilly!

What We loved: 💞||Service: The staff at Engel Obertal were incredible! Friendly, attentive, and truly embodied luxury hospitality. |Food: Wow! From the 5-course meals to the buffets, everything was fresh, delicious, and creative. The chef deserves major kudos!|Rooms: Spacious and well appointed rooms in a German traditional style, |Pool / Grass area: The property has two large pools great for relaxation and a jacuzzi as well as a nice outside area for relaxation and sunbathing. ||Areas for Improvement: 🔍 |. |Spa Treatments: Considering the hotel's price point, I would expect more customization during spa appointments. The ability to choose a male or female therapist, or being informed if only one gender is available, would be a big plus. ||Massage Quality: The massage treatments I received (lymphatic drainage and during my facial) felt weak compared to what I'm used to. Additionally, some pressure points weren't addressed. ||Treatment Room Ambiance: The rooms were quite bright with no eye masks provided, making it difficult to fully relax. They also faced an outside lounge area, so noise easily came in, especially with open windows.

Unfortunately it did not meet our expectations. We stayed 1 night at the Wellness & Genuss Resort - Engel Obertal and these were our impressions: Great was: - the reception with suitcase pick up, champagne and the accompaniment to the room. - The very nice entrance area. - The beautiful & very clean room. With a welcome gift (fruit, chocolate & water). - The dinner: There was really no shortage of indulgence here. We had the 5-course menu with salad buffet, porcini mushroom soup, beef fillet, fish wrapped in bacon, cheese platter to choose yourself & Grand Manier mousse for dessert. All the dishes were delicious and prepared with great attention to detail. The service was also super nice. - Breakfast was great 👌 the corner where you could squeeze your own juice with fresh fruit. Freshly prepared egg dishes, fruit, pancakes, various teas, sparkling wine, cheese. Teas, sparkling wine, cheese and meat platters, cornflakes, various breads, sausages, etc. breads, sausages, etc. Everything your heart could desire! - We left with freshly baked bread and water for the journey home. Why we wouldn't come back: - The building site, which we were not informed about. I'm a bit tired of hotels that carry out major renovations without informing guests (and yes, there are other ways). The front façade of the hotel is currently being scaffolded and the terrace of one of the restaurants is being completely renovated (see pictures). Even though it may not bother many people and we did not experience any noise disturbance. I would at least like to have the opportunity to decide for myself whether to check into a hotel with a building site. At a 5-star hotel in Scotland, we were informed of this in advance and could then decide whether it bothered us or not. - the sun lounger situation: when we arrived - without exaggeration - all the sun loungers were occupied. The sunbathing area was full. The person at the spa couldn't really help us. And the receptionist also referred us to the spa staff again (super helpful when the person couldn't help us) ... We then found two sun loungers that were still free somewhere and put them in the shade (there were no more parasols). - Some other things that weren't great: the sun loungers were okay, but the side table was a plastic table. Also, the water fountain by the pool didn't work and we felt that some areas should have been cleaned better (e.g. the sliding glass door from the indoor to the outdoor pool). - We found a pair of pants (presumably from the previous guest) in the room. Since the wellness pool area did not convince us and since we are of the opinion that the construction site should have been declared, we would not come back. We have high expectations of a 5 star hotel for the price, which unfortunately were not met. As described above, there were also many positive points, which should make the feedback objective and helpful.

We were disappointed that the demi-pension evening meal on a Thursday in March was NOT the 5 course sit down meal (promised on the Engel's own website) at a table with a table cloth and comfortable chairs but a bistro table/chairs and a succession of samey self service buffet courses. On our second night it was a sit down five course meal. |The chalets away from the main building are very good and would accommodate four people or a family in comfort. we enjoyed our chalet, and the spa facilities (once you can find your way around) are brilliant, maybe more lockers would help.
