A mixed experience.
Firstly, the good - the location, right in the heart of the old town, is great. On arrival, we were greeted warmly, able to check into our room a couple of hours early and offered a welcome drink. There was a delicious brownie for us in the room. A great start.
The bad. The place felt like it was winding down or in run off. The service, other than on arrival, was pretty sleepy. There was never anyone in the restaurant and it was unclear if it was actually functioning. The breakfast was very basic for a hotel of this cost and calibre. A couple of dry croissants, bottled (concentrated) juice and some snacks of cheese and nuts. I can see from previous reviews that others said the breakfast was lacking, but it doesn’t seem to have improved (indeed, quite the opposite as we didn’t get as much as a reviewer from 18 months ago). While there’s the option to eat breakfast in the dining area, it’s served in exactly the same way as if you take it in your room - in takeaway coffee cups and boxed up. Not good.
Unfortunately, there was very noisy construction work right outside the hotel for the duration of our stay and our room was facing it. On the first morning, the workers were blasting music from 8am and all morning. We asked to be moved. Despite being told they’d get back to us, we had to chase twice and were eventually told there wasn’t an alternative. While I appreciate the hotel had no control over the works, they did over how they managed their paying guests - and they did absolutely nothing about it. As such, we paid a lot of money for a hotel that was merely serviceable and nothing special.
