"Hotel Erbprinz is definitely something of an institution in the Karlsruhe area – and not only for the many conference participants who stay here. This is a foodies' hotspot that prides itself on its stylish interior and excellent cuisine – the domain of Ralph Knebel. The Regensburg-born chef and his team prepare classic fare, drawing on international influences. Select produce is used to create flavoursome creations, which take their cue from the seasons. Incidentally, Ralph Knebel's wife, Jasmina, is also on board producing fabulous desserts in her role as head pastry chef. In summer, the flower-filled terrace is especially delightful and a great spot in which to relax and enjoy a meal on a warm day." - Michelin Inspector

The stay was excellent! The hotel exudes a classic and classy charm. The service is exceptional, and the breakfast was delightful. While the rooms have a traditional style, they are incredibly comfortable, with meticulous attention to detail. The towels are thick and fresh, the bed is cozy, and the room feels five-star. The spa is also first-rate and impeccably maintained. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, though much too short.

In December I arrived at the hotel with my husband and the receptionist pretended I didn't exist. She only spoke to my husband and regardless of whether I said hello or goodnight she didn't even look at me and didn't answer me at any point. Later the same day I decided to say hello for the second time and again I didn't hear back and only replied to my husband again. After this hotel we stayed at other hotels in Germany and I saw the difference in service, all the attendants referred to me and made me feel included, so in fact it was a communication problem with your attendant. Apart from that, great spa, cosy atmosphere and extremely high quality and comfortable accommodation.

With a service level on par with the 5-star hotel rating, staying the night at the Erbprinz was bound to be a most pleasant experience. Friendly and helpful staff go out of their way to show you around and create an inviting atmosphere. The food is so good that the boisterous plaques on the wall suddenly not only make sense but also remind you that you are experiencing an establishment of internationally acclaimed quality. Why, then, only four stars from me for this review? The room I stayed in and the others I saw on the first floor are in need of an upgrade. Some broad sweeps of new furniture and carpets would go a long way, and the light switches and wall plugs are not up to date. Some may call it vintage and classy - I expect smarter electrical appliances and a modern touch, albeit with a romantic charm that this hotel truly lives by.

The reception man at check in told me there is no WiFi at the hotel today Friday 30th August or for the rest of the weekend and the hotel underground parking is already full with a large group these were both very inconvenient and disappointing. The room I booked (older room) I give 4 stars as nice but still needs refurbishment. Next time I will book a new room. Main areas of hotel very nice. Breakfast good selection.

Hotel: Excellent|Restaurant: Good||The hotel was a wonderful surprise for such a small town- amazing staff, sauna/pool facilities, rooms, and staff. I stayed in an updated room, but saw others which were more traditional but also charming. Overall, the building is beautiful and the proximity to the old town in Ettlingen is wonderful.||The Restaurant has a Michelin star, but after dining there, I was a bit surprised. The food was mixed, some items amazing, others leaving something to be desired. My biggest issue with our meal was the male waiter we had being extremely rude to a foreign colleague of mine for asking for a non-alcoholic beverage and asking about specific menu items to stay within his dietary restrictions. He openly mocked him for both, and scolded him for looking at the menu while he was speaking. Overall, it soured the rest of the meal, but the food review is still accurate. I understand we all were speaking English (almost all of us natively spoke a different language), but the flat out ridicule was completely uncalled for.

Absolutely great service. Nice, spacious room (Ambiente). Awesome Spa. Garden with perfect atmosphere for breakfast and meals. Delicious food. Ettlingen is a very neat small city with lots of restaurants. The only downside of this otherwise great hotel is the location along major roads as well as the noise and smell of hotel parking garage if you have a room to the courtyard.

Really enjoyed my short stay at this hotel. The service was top notch, the room wasn’t really modern by its design but did the job perfectly well and the mattress was great. The breakfast was nice except for the coffee. You can charge your car in the parking for free, which is quite practical. There’s also a nice pool, spa and gym.

Had a junior suite that smelled terribly. Explanation from the reception: yes, that is probably due to the bar where smokers are allowed or it could be the broken air conditioning system. At 10 p.m.we received a new room, a far cheaper 'doppelzimmer', where half of the lights did not work and the interior door did not close. Several drunk guests were staggering through the hallways which gave a very unsafe feeling. Unbelievable but this hotel allows smoking in the open bar, which means that half the hotel stinks of cigarette and cigar smoke. They advertise with 'view on the beautiful castle and the old town' but from our window we only saw a train station and dirty courtyard although we asked for the view on the castle... When checking out they presented us the bill: we had to pay for the junior suite! After much discussion, the price was reduced slightly: we agreed with the little reduction (not conform the website nor booking.com) because we still had a long travel ahead and were more than tired of this discussion after a bad evening and night in this hotel. It's scandalous that this hotel dares to call itself a 5* hotel.

Yelp
June 17/2023: This was an absolutely delightful experience. It was for a birthday party. I'll only comment on the food, the service & the facilities. Let's start with the food. Absolutely fantastic! The buffet was superb, the main (beef & fish) we so delicious! The dessert buffet afterwards was equally as delicious. All in all the food was outstanding. The food was only matched by the service. Our table servers were delightful. They were smiley, interactive & engaged. They anticipated our needs & delivered quickly. Finally, this is a classic old style throwback to days of elegance. Nice decor with a sense of quality. An exceptional experience.

Yelp
This hotel is actually one of those quaint little European hotels that you'd only get a chance to visit when exploring the smaller German cities. The hotel itself is tastefully done with decor and an extremely functional layout. The rooms are decent sized, complete with wifi, sitting area, bed and walk in shower. Overall, not quite a 5 star establishment but it absolutely lives up to a 4+ star hotel and a good option to stay in a town with extremely fine dining options. Pros- Nicely done Restaurants Nicely sized room Large bathroom Old school keyed entry Decor Friendly staff Location Cons- Can be pricey Limited parking Tiny beds Lots of stairs and can be slippery

Yelp
Located in the small, out of the way town of Ettlingen, I have had the great fortune to stay here about 4 times over the years because a working group of professionals gathers here every other year to network and I am lucky enough to be counted among them. There are other hotels in Ettlingen that provide very functional and less expensive accommodations that I have stayed in (and they were perfectly fine too) but I always come back to this place now for a few reasons: It has a historic, boutique European feel that chain hotels cannot reproduce and it is located at the border of the old town area that forces me to experience life in old world Germany for the 2 days that I am there. I travel enough and stay in enough chain hotels and have enough frequent stay status that I enjoy corporate hotels and the luxury amenities they provide me when I stay with them but I rarely ever get to experience a small hotel where they do not know me yet provide me with outstanding hospitality and service in a 1 of a kind setting. So, I choose here when in the area. It is not easy to get to as it is really not near a major airport. I have rented a car and driven the 90 min Autobahn route from Frankfurt (which is very fun!) and I have also taken the train from Frankfurt and it involves changing trains once in Karlsruhe but the train stop is literally adjacent to the side of the hotel. The hotel is boutique style and has evolved over the years from a historic inn to now building on a more modern wing but this has resulted in some quirks that are fun such as a beautiful if imposing front complete with iron gating and courtyard fountains/statues that make it difficult to find the front entrance. There are some historic rooms and some modern ones (I personally prefer the modern ones but I would imagine if you were a Euro history buff you might appreciate the older ones). There is a mineral water spa within that I have looked at but never paid to participate in but I think that it is very popular with Europeans on holiday to come to places like this to sit in the spa for the perceive health benefits. There are 2 restaurants within, the Michelin 1 starred Erbprinz and the more informal weinstube Sybilla. There is also a cool, old bar near the lobby worth an evening nightcap just to check out what the upper class do in the old world for fun. Breakfast is included in the hotel rate and the spread that is put out in the mornings is impressive not only for the variety of Euro foods available (think sausages, cured fish, salads, great breads and butter, etc.) but also for the setting as it is served in the Erbprinz restaurant where you are among fine furnishings looking out over the front courtyard. The service in the hotel is friendly and welcoming but not over the top. The location is just at the edge of what I think is the Old Town and it is a short walk to a lot of historic churches, shops and restaurants. Life in this town is relaxed and it is fun to walk around and watch people riding their bikes and walking everywhere as well as grabbing an outdoor table in the cobblestone lined plazas for a break involving coffee and pastry or a beer and a pretzel. In general English is spoken in most places at least in limited fashion so it is easy for the ignorant American such as myself to get by without making a fool of myself. I can guarantee that if the work group did not choose to start meeting here many years ago, this town would have never been on my radar but I'm glad it is and it is worth taking a couple days to check out if you are near Frankfurt and this type of tourism is your thing.

Yelp
Ich mich etwas schwer mit dem Rating, das Personal ist ausgesucht freundlich und hilfsbereit. Das essen i. Restaurant war exzellent. Einzig die Zimmer sind ein wenig schlicht aber sauber. Hier gibt es sogar noch echte Einzelzimmer.

Yelp
One the best hotel in Germany, the room is good, pool is nice, people is friendly, especially the fantastic bar.

Yelp
If this is the best Germany has to offer for hotels, it is pretty pathetic. I have been her for 2.5 weeks now, leaving at the end of the week. Coworkers all complain the AC in their rooms don't work well. At least it works Ok in my room. The hotel has no internet to speak of. The signal, at best is one bar, if you can get the signal. This is important when traveling on business. The restaurant is supposed to be one of the finest in Germany. That's a joke! The hotel staff don't really give a damn when you complain about anything not right with the hotel. I dropped off laundry for same day service. It took 2 days to get my laundry back. Again, no one cares the service was not completed same day. Parking is also another issue here. There is not enough parking for hotel guests. Stay away from this MOTEL! If I have to return on business later, I will not stay at this hotel again.
