Restaurant de Tourrel

"It was within the walls of this splendid mansion that Charles Gounod played the first bars of his opera, Mireille, to the Provençal author Frédéric Mistral, who wrote the libretto. Today, in an attractive retro-style dining room with the occasional Art Deco touch, guests can sample a culinary score inspired by the region’s finest ingredients, including outdoor Provence tomatoes, Mediterranean squid and crayfish, and lamb from Crau." - Michelin Inspector

Hôtel de Tourrel (Saint Remy de Provence, French Riviera / Provence) 7 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"If you’ve seen Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night or Field With Poppies, you already know Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. After the unpleasantness with the ear, the Dutch painter checked himself into a mental institution here, and painted more than a hundred local scenes in the year that followed. It’s a quiet town that’s become a popular getaway for artistically minded travelers with a few euros to burn; Hôtel de Tourrel is one of a few boutique hotels that’s popped up alongside the art galleries and bistros in the historic center." - Tablet Hotels

I had such an exceptional stay in this beautifully renovated hotel in the heart of the Old Town. The hospitality and care were well above anything I had expected. I am well travelled and lucky enough to often stay in beautiful hotels. From check -in until my departure I felt very looked after by Eve and Camille - their obvious passion for guests was exceptional and well above any expectations I had. They both made me feel totally at home in this modern, comfortable, fantastic hotel. My room was large, airy, light and with a lounge suite to relax in and even better than the photos on their website. The bathrooms are marble with the best toiletries - mine even had a large bath in it. Unlike many hotels in prime positions in beautiful towns, this hotel has not been redesigned to maximise every square metre of space which is a credit to the owner. The location is metres away from the centre in the Old Town but also tucked away from any noise. It is not the easiest to find however if you call reception just before your arrival they will wait on the street for you, then take your luggage and assist you to the private garage just a block away. Im excited to return again.

We stayed 2 nights at the Hotel de Tourrel. The hotel is very well positioned in the old town of Saint Remy within walking distance of great restaurants and Le monastère Saint-Paul-de-Mausole. The Wednesday morning markets are just outside the front door. The rooms and public areas have been beautifully renovated and feature stone and glass. The bathrooms are beautiful and stocked with Aesop products. The front of house staff are very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel as a place to base yourself for touring St Remy and surrounds.

What a fabulous place! My wife and I enjoyed EVERY minute of our four night stay. We were in Room Three (the stone wall room) and it is even more grand than the photos suggest. Super comfortable, amazing bathroom with a rainfall shower that is twelve feet tall, and a very modern control panel that takes care of everything from temperature to automated curtains. And the staff is so helpful and courteous, they were there every step of the way to help make our visit more comfortable. The only thing to be aware of is the location is hidden away on a side street, so if you're driving in I would suggest calling when you are close so they can assist you with your bags and parking and show you where to go upon arrival. And although we didn't take advantage of the Michelin star restaurant, every night we would pass an open door to views the interior of the restaurant and it looked divine. They also provide a reasonably priced breakfast every morning upon demand. We have traveled all over the world and this place ranks at the top of our list for comfort and service. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

We recently stayed at Hôtel et Restaurant de Tourrel in Saint-Rémy, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience! The room is spacious and thoughtfully designed, with high-end European materials and fixtures that give the place a luxurious yet understated vibe. The Aesop toiletries were a delightful touch as well! With only nine rooms, the hotel feels intimate and exclusive, though I can imagine it might be challenging for them to turn a profit with such a small scale. You can really sense the passion and care the owners put into every detail of this place—it’s truly impressive. The rooftop restaurant, led by a sous-chef from a Michelin-starred kitchen downstairs within the hotel, is a highlight. The food is outstanding, with fresh ingredients and creative flavor pairings that set it apart from typical fine dining. Every dish was great, and our server, Paul, was so friendly and attentive, making the dining experience even better. The tasting menu took about two and a half hours, which felt a bit long, but the quality made it worth it. The front desk staff—Eva, Matthew, and Camille—were absolute gems. They went above and beyond to help us during our stay, always with genuine warmth and professionalism. Their kindness added a cozy, welcoming touch to this sleek, minimalist hotel. Overall, we’d love to return to Hôtel de Tourrel! We hope the owners can expand the property to make it more sustainable in the long run, as we’re huge fans of supporting independent businesses like this. You can feel their heart and soul in every corner of the hotel, and it left a lasting impression. Highly recommend!

We were very disappointed by the service at this high-priced restaurant, specifically the disparity that we experienced vs all the other guests. We were the first guests to arrive and seated right away. We were asked what we wanted to drink and were served those first drinks promptly. That's when the attention to our drinks ended. I finished my glass of champagne by the end of the 2nd course and was never asked if I wanted another drink until we began our last (5th) course. All the other guests were consistently asked if they wanted another drink once their glass was empty. We also never once had our water glasses filled. All the other guests consistently had their glasses filled even before it was empty. Finally, it was a VERY long dinner. From start to finish it took 3.5 hours. There were no palate cleansers in between, just a very very long pause. While the food was good, we wouldn't return simply due to the lack of service, which should be very high given the Michelin star and the prices.

I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the rooftop restaurant inside Hotel de Tourrel in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France. A truly wonderful rooftop restaurant just next to the old town, with stunning views over the tiled roofs of a charming Provençal village and a nearby church. The staff were incredibly welcoming, and the whole experience felt thoughtfully curated. The seating arrangement is quite unique: tables are set in pairs with side-by-side seating, separated by plants that provide a bit of intimacy. It’s perfect for couples, but also allows for easy conversation with neighboring tables if the mood strikes — as it did for us. We had a great chat with a lovely American couple from Saint-Rémy, which added a memorable touch to the evening. The table design is also clever — they can slide closer or farther depending on whether you’re eating or just relaxing, making it surprisingly comfortable. Now the food: We started with heirloom tomatoes and pistou — a simple yet flavorful tribute to local produce. Then came a catch-of-the-day carpaccio with citrus notes, followed by perfectly cooked king prawns with a rich, beautifully balanced jus. The seabream fillet that followed was just as delightful, served with zucchini, black rice, and another excellent jus. Dessert was a summery and comforting cherry preparation with soft biscuit and whipped cream, topped off with a madeleine and coffee. The view at sunset is spectacular — but do bring sunscreen if you’re there in the summer, as the sun can be strong until late evening. Highly recommended — and reservations are a must for this exclusive spot.
