Georgia May Be Getting Its First National Park Soon — and It Has More Than Just Scenic Trails

"Hotel Forty Five is named for the angle at which the art deco building sits at its cross streets. Inside, the decor is like a love letter to Macon’s music history, with photos and artwork inspired by artists like Otis Redding. There’s also a coffee shop to start your day, as well as a restaurant and rooftop bar." - Travel + Leisure Editors

I came to this hotel for a rooftop event. The views were nice and the reggae was on point. A nice crowd showed up but it was so hot( typical mid July weather) and the few brave souls who danced were drenched in sweat. The hotel is well decorated, clean and the employees we encountered were so pleasant. The bar made us decent drinks and the price wasn't too crazy. I enjoyed my evening there. I did not stay in the hotel but there were quite a few people staying there. It is quite beautiful and in the downtown area. Parking wasn't a nightmare but they do offer valet. I'd definitely stay to see how it is. Thanks!

Google
The hotel is not worth a 4 star rating. More like a 3 star. They are not upscale enough with respect to amenities, room service ease, in room coffee maker model, coffee not readily accessible even early morning, check in staff just okay, but valet service is nice. But they do not have a bellman to help you take luggage down? This was a first in our entire time staying at a 4 star hotel. The location is good next to the Macon City Auditorium and downtown restaurants though. They just need to go more upscale in every aspect in order to deserve a 4 star rating.

This hotel is terrible. Customer service is bad, valet is bad, the check in lobby is a cluttered mess. I checked in for a 2 night stay. The staff said I had a 3 night stay, but I had a copy of my booking reservation that said two nights. They told me they would charge me to cancel the third night. The Marriott app showed two nights, the confirmation email showed two nights... but their computer said 3. Finally got that resolved after some arguing with the counter. Next, Valet is a disaster. I parked my car with Valet, who sent me a link to pay and request my car. I did that and got charged $30/night for parking. Fine. The hotel then added $90.00 in parking fees to the folio, in addition to the charges from the parking company. I spoke with the front desk who assured me they would refund it. Wasn't refunded. Called the hotel 3 times requesting a refund, no response. This is a racket and the AG of this state should look into this mess. The room was just OK. AC didn't work, the window shade was busted, the carpet is worn down, and when you open the drawer that the safe is in, the entire cabinet tips over because of the weight of the safe. This is a courtyard at best -- a pig in lipstick. The management and Marriott brand should be embarrassed with this property. The fact that I have to fight to get my money back from them when they tried to scam an extra night out of me and then again for parking is ridiculous, I've been going back and forth with them so I can get my expense reports done, with no luck. I had to report this hotel to our travel department to have it blocked from future bookings.

Hotel Forty Five in Macon is undeniably stylish. The retro design is charming, the rooftop bar is fantastic, and the hotel is impressively dog-friendly. Under normal circumstances, I’d be writing a glowing review. However, the experience was severely marred by poor operational execution. The parking situation is disorganized and feels like an afterthought. The valet stand was cluttered and chaotic, and I had a near miss with another guest reversing recklessly. For $30 a night in parking fees, I expect a safer, more streamlined arrival process. But the real issue was check-in. It was hands down the worst I’ve ever experienced at any hotel, let alone one charging $300+ a night. Despite having a confirmation email and SMS proving my fully paid reservation, the front desk couldn’t find it in their system. Rather than helping resolve it, they made me call Marriott support. Support confirmed the reservation did exist and should be visible to the property, but still refused to contact the hotel directly. I was stuck between two entities refusing to communicate with no resolution being attempted from either end until I handed my phone to the front desk clerk, who finally spoke to support. A few minutes later, the reservation “magically” appeared. What’s worse? After all of that, there was no gesture of goodwill. No offer to waive valet, no drink voucher, no apology beyond the bare minimum. For a property that markets itself as boutique and elevated, the lack of basic hospitality and accountability was staggering. I also expect more from Marriott as a brand. Beautiful space. Terrible process. And absolutely no interest in making it right. I won’t be back.

this hotel is in a perfect spot downtown macon where it’s walkable to the restaurants, museums and homes to tour. The hotel is neat and clean. The staff is helpful with downtown info, has a restaurant on the first level and a rooftop bar. our room was spacious and decorated nicely. We will definitely stay again.

We came to town to see a concert at the new Macon Amphitheater and decided to stay and enjoy Macon. This hotel is right in the heart of beautiful downtown Macon with many delicious restaurant options, and the hotel itself has 3 good places to eat/drink. We enjoy delicious drip coffee at their coffee shop, Reckon and thoroughly enjoyed a delicious burger at Hightales Rooftopbar and some of the best cocktails made with love by Rebecca (not on the menu but try her Sidecar!). The Golddigger is also very good) ||The room is beautiful with a nice size SMEG fridge, desk area, beds are so comfortable, and air conditioning is awesome (not loud!) ||Melanie, who checked us in and out was able to share a lot of the rich history of Macon, give us several recommendations and made sure our stay was perfect and memorable,

Second time staying here for work and I love this place. Sophia, one of the managers, was so nice and had outstanding intel on the local history and places to see. Gave me some insight into the local breweries and the hotel’s very on Bullet Bourbon. My bartender, Sara, was top notch and super nice. Made my stay so much better. Thank you Sara and Sophia.

Google
Booked room on booking.com. Arrived at 11PM with my son and dog. Charged me $160 dollar fee for pet boarding and front desk associate did not mention fee. Called to inquire about fee and the gentleman was rude and was quick to inform me I signed the agreement for the pet fee. Of course after traveling all night from FL to GA I was tired and simply signed for the room. So be aware although they accept pets it is not cheap! The carpet in the rooms were worn and the air conditioner buzzed/beeped all night interrupting sleep. Blinds did not open in bathroom.

Yelp
Hotel Forty Five is on the corner of history and music. This hip historic boutique hotel by Tribute Portfolio is in the "Macon Skyscraper," a 1941 Banker's Health & Life Insurance Company. John and I recently visited on a weekend getaway to Macon that's only about an hour and some change from Atlanta! The hotel is steps from restaurants and bars, the Macon Auditorium, the Tubman Museum, and natural attractions for hiking or riding! It is in the center of it all!    What is in a name? The Hotel Forty Five's name is rich in Macon history! It gets its name from the 45 degree angle of the street formed by Cherry, First, and Cotton Street and was designed to transport cotton barges to and from the Ocmulgee River. Also, Macon is known for its rich musical past and the numerous 45 records produced there, so the name is a nod to this history. As we said, corner of history and music! Did you know Macon is the home of The Allman Brothers Band? If you walk around the corner from the hotel, you'll find Grant's Lounge, a staple jam bar where bands would jam night after night to get a record deal. And you can see it today and hear live music!!    Inside the hotel, the lobby winds up through the elevators with retro flooring and bank vibes, while the old directory is still visible from the elevator lobby! Downstairs is the beautiful restaurant Loom with a full bar and dining room, and they also have Reckon coffee bar with pastries and drinks for early risers. Upstairs on the 6th floor is Hightales Rooftop bars with sweeping historical and downtown views, live music, and full beautiful bar! A full review of the amenities is below!    Inside the room, touches of industrial lighting fixtures, a Macon street drawing morphed into a mural with a woman's face, hints of leather, marble, and retro like the cutest 50s mini fridge and pink funky dresser desk, it is an eclectic mix of angles, textures, and vibes. They even have a schematic of the original building in the restroom. Beyond that, the large king bed was comfy, the beautifully light and bright bathroom stuns, and the historical views can't be beaten!  We went upstairs to the Hotel Forty Five, Hightales Rooftop Bar. They have hand crafted cocktails like the Got the Feelin' James Brown, a super spicy yet fruity tequila concoction with spicy agave and raspberry! But the best part? THE best views of the historical and downtown portions of the city! The staff was very friendly and even let me in the rooftop bar to see the view before they were open!

Yelp
Can't believe I did not pen a review as soon as I checked out. This hotel and the experience has lived rent free in my head. Wow... such a beautiful space. The property has got that cool factor. Sure hope a movie would make a movie around it. The retro, art deco, AlCapone vibes is awesome. These older properties, their rooms are cavernous. High ceilings, huge ass door, bathroom the size of a cadillac, dimly lit hallways,.... conjure up a scene from the roaring 20's. Yeah.. go ahead and put on that fedora, that sequin dress.. and a a masquerade mask. Time travel to speakeasy period, cigar and tommy guns. Again, this is not the showbox vanilla holiday inn, marriot, hilton... this place has character. and like Jules said.. "character goes a long way" And finally, the ex-girlfriend loved the place, and so I am obliged to make a repeat.

Yelp
Awesome! I can't say enough good things about Hotel Forty-Five! I stayed there on three separate trips in May. It was so good the first time, I went back two more times! The location is convenient to everything in downtown Macon - restaurants, shops, breweries, etc. you can walk to everything. The service was excellent - friendly, helpful every step of the way. The rooms were modern and comfortable. The hotel gym is about the best I've seen in any hotel and rivals many small, private gyms. If you're looking for a place to stay in Macon, look no further! This is it!

Yelp
Pretty disappointing stay. We had a one night stay enroute from Florida to South Carolina. While it's a cool old building, the lobby, if you can call it that, is really a hallway. Parking was limited so after a long drive just surrendered to the $25 valet. As a Marriott Titanium Elite member, I expect a little better welcome. They didn't acknowledge me or welcome me. I asked and they refused a complimentary breakfast which i undertsand was automatic for Titanium Elite members. I had to search out info about breakfast and never did find out about the wifi, if they have it. The room was decently comfortable and clean. No iron or ironing board. I won't stay here again.

Yelp
Stopped in Macon on our way to Florida and stayed at the Hotel 45. The staff was very nice and the rooms were roomy and quaint. They gave us a coupon for breakfast.

Yelp
This hotel is a quaint little hotel in Macon on a street you can get to from any side. The people I've encountered were always so nice, from the valet staff to the front desk all the way to the restaurant and the rooftop bar. I love it and since I'm in Macon once a month, this is the hotel I always stay. The views from the room are spectacular if you get the right room. You can see the entire town of Macon. All the old rustic buildings with the right sunlight put everything at ease. I love it here! Some rooms are smaller than others but the more spacious rooms have double sinks, big showers and plenty of room to move around. The smaller rooms have the same rustic decorum just smaller space but serve its purpose just the same. You can go to the rooftop bar and really get a good vibe going. Especially after the sun goes down, the drinks and greenery are nice as ever! Come by and stay here whenever you're in town.

Yelp
Passing through on the way home from Tennessee. A wonderful repurposed building- took an historic office building and converted it into the hotel, restaurant l, rooftop bar and cafe. The 94-room historic boutique hotel in downtown Macon, GA is located on a unique 45-degree angle that is the result of Cotton Street's diagonal trajectory through Macon, an urban design ahead of its time that made transportation of cotton barges to and from the river possible. The people were simply terrific, starting with the valet parking. Only one elevator was working, as the delay for parts extends everywhere. So staff and guests were riding and waiting together! The room we were assigned has the same door number as the maintenance closet. No signage and no cell service on the floor, so we had to go back to lobby to get guidance. Our room was fabulous - a mix of eclectic and modern- spacious and comfortable. We visited the rooftop bar for a pre-dinner drink. Nice space, with a large outdoor patio but no shade. Bartender was an unhappy camper and the guests included the off duty manager - never allow off duty employees to drink on premises!! Dinner in the LOOM lobby restaurant was excellent- 5 star food. Good wine list and great service. Guess who showed up for another drink at the restaurant bar - the off duty manager! Morning coffee and baked goods were perfect. They also sport Reckon Coffee House in the lobby - the eclectic vibe makes for the ideal spot to meet for a morning cup of Joe or an evening glass of vino. Our stay was only overnight, and the shower "curb" is poorly built - it actually tilts out into the bathroom, so the first shower in the morning flooded the bathroom. They took the room "out of service" after that! Apparently the manager at checkout - same person at the bar(s) the prior evening - identified this as a "known issue". If you're passing through - overall, despite the issues - this is a great spot to stay.

Yelp
Excellent customer service! Excellent room set up and front desk hospitality Valet personnel were fast, friendly AND fun to chat with. Located in Macon, this crazy and beautiful hotel has a good sized gym complete with free weights and kettle bells. It boasts a beautiful "rooftop" bar, and delicious restaurant at the 1st floor level. Swing by for coffee in the morning, drinks after work, or for a lovely dinner!

Yelp
So I was super excited to try this hotel... I use to stay in Macon, so it was cool to see this being built. The Pros: Customer service. The employees were ALL really nice and helpful. I had a lot of problems with check-in and each time they went above and beyond to fix the issue. The rooms... I LOVE them. They have a real modern feel to them. Also, there's a restaurant on the bottom floor, gotta love that! The Cons: 1. Parking!!! It's super confusing and frustrating. They that like 5 parking spots in front of the actual hotel and if you don't want to Vally park you have to park over in their parking deck and walk all the way back over to the hotel. It's not super far but if you have luggage it can be hell. 2. I had to come back down twice because my key didn't work, the staff advised me that the key maker is not that reliable... and that's cool and all, but that's a headache... it took about another 45mins to finally be able to get into my room. Once I was finally able to get into my room the room was not clean... But as I said the employees were so nice about it, they upgraded me to a suite. Once in the suite, I loved it. 3. There were a lot of other little miscellaneous things that may be considered a bit petty... so I'll just leave them out. lol Overall the experience was ok. I will visit again, It's a new hotel so I know they still have to work out some of the kinks but this hotel really does have potential. Can't wait to visit again.

Yelp
Absolutely AWESOME stay!! First, let me just say that the pictures don't do the rooms justice! They are well designed, comfortable, quiet!, and attention to detail was clearly given. There are plenty of lights, plugs, storage, sitting room, work area, spacious bathroom, large tvs, great bedding and pillows, even a nice view from our room! Second, the staff!! This is by far the BEST, MOST HELPFUL, MOST HOSPITABLE, MOST ACCOMODOATING, HAPPY TO BE HERE AND HAPPY WE WERE THERE staff we have ever had the experience to enjoy! From the front desk, to the valets, to the engineer, repair guy, all the way up to the manager- EVERYONE was so nice! The staff here truly make your stay SO ENJOYABLE!! Third, the restaurant LOOM- we ate here all five nights! Yes, it was THAT GOOD!! From the cauliflower appetizer, fried tomatoes, cheese fritters, to the salad, the bread, the fish, porkchop, steak burger, and all of the amazing sides (farro, grits, you name it)- ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Did I mention they have great beer and made the best cosmopolitan I've ever had? If you were thinking of staying here- don't hesitate! Book it! One of the BEST overall experiences we've had!

Yelp
The location of Hotel Forty Five is great. Close to everything. The hotel is very clean and the front desk personnel are very friendly and knowledgeable. It is quite costly for such small rooms. The toilet, although separated by a nice barn door, is right next to the bed. If you dine out, be sure to eat all of your food, as there is no microwave in the room. There is no self parking, unless you park on the street with meters, where the max you can pay is 3 hours. Although check out is at 11, no sleeping in. You have to get up and go put more money on the meter...charges are from 8am-8pm. I came back in to lay down for a minute. But other members of the staff were quite loud and unprofessional with their communications to each other.

Yelp
Pros: very clean, updated , valet service is very nice and quick. Bonus* you get a peach mimosa at check in! Cons: the restaurant at the hotel is mediocre at best

Yelp
Alright Macon, Georgia I see you... Let's start with the pros: exemplary customer service, great breakfast spot called "I Reckon", 6th floor has a walk-out deck, bar (the laid was great, & small snacks, the rooms are decorated very well, the beds are extremely comfortable, lovely bathrooms, and the Loom restaurant is inside... Cons: The walls are thin & the rooms are rather small... Also they don't have a pool or hot tube. This hotel is a great tribute to the city of Macon and it's legacy!!!

Yelp
restaurant food was cold. most importantly I like to start my day with a cup of coffee. forget that here. had to go to lobby.

Yelp
Nice retrofit. If you're staying downtown this is the place. The amenities are good and the staff was great. Parking is valet or... Confusing, but we figured it out. I would certainly stay here again.

Tary B.

Yelp
Classy hotel which is fairly new and well designed. It is well designed and equipped. In close proximity to downtown and the concert venue

Yelp
Spent the night at Hotel Forty Five while traveling from Iowa to South Carolina. We ate at the hotel restaurant and both the food and service was superb. Ariana, our waitress was attentive and pleasurable. The wine selections were great. I enjoyed a New Zealand sauvignon blanc and my wife started with a nice rose. I had the seared ahi-tuna appetizer, and my wife and I both had the salmon entree. We ended the evening on the 6th floor outdoor lounge overlooking historic downtown Macon. Austin Williams, the bartender, was great. He recommended some wonderful cognac. And he along with the restaurant hostess served us a great cheesecake desert with tea and coffee to top off the evening. We certainly will return on any visit to Macon in the future.

Yelp
I'm a world traveler (platinum Elite).. and had "great service" before but Hotel Forty Five is early a true 5 hotel.. the mid century modern architecture is just the beginning and quickly dissolves when you encounter the amazing staff.. From The front desk staff that The amazing coffee shop.. just Absolutely out-freaking-standing!

Alyssa L.

Yelp
This was such a great experience! Not only was the hotel itself lovely, but the staff were top notch. Shout out to Maria at the front desk who assisted us throughout our time here and was so helpful! The food was the best we have had our whole trip, and we just couldn't help but feel so special because of all the staff! Definitely stay at this hotel if you're making your way through Macon!

Yelp
My wife stayed at the hotel for a work conference and was very pleased with how clean and inviting the staff were, so the kids and I decided to stay with her for just one last night before traveling back home. The staff, well Robert, at the front desk was incredibly polite and helpful, he was honest at first letting us know that he was new but he would look into allowing us to change rooms so we could have 2 double beds instead of the one king bed so the children could stay with us. At first we thought, yeah yeah your new and you have to check, so we thought it wasn't possible but on the spot he started to make calls and replied back to us, helping with new arrangements. The hotel is within walking distance of many restaurants so we went out to dinner and also stopped at Reboot Retrocade and Bar which thankfully allowed children since it was still before 6pm. After a beer and some arcade games we headed back to the hotel. After we put the kids to bed I went to the Rooftop bar at the hotel for a nightcap. The Rooftop bar is really pretty neat. The bartender Steve was amazing, he was great conversation but also a multi tasking master. Thanks to the hotel staff it really ended up being a great last night in Macon.
