Hotel Gasthof Alter Wirt

This has been a family favorite hotel for visiting the Garmisch area for the past few years. Friendly staff, clean and comfortable accommodations, just minutes from Garmisch via train, small-village feel. Recent addition of vending machines is helpful. Hotel is flexible when arriving late when the front desk is closed. Great Mountain views from most every room. The larger 4-person rooms have balconies. The second bed is usually a pull out sofa bed and does not always have outlets near the bed but the main bed has side-tables with power. The hotel has a traditional German restaurant / Biergarten which I found quite good. There is an Italian restaurant, pizza place, ice cream shop, and two cafes in town for a decent selection of dining options. Lots more options are available in Garmisch. While not as convenient as the hotels in Garmisch, the price and availability have been much better. Highly recommend!

Good place for a meal. Quick service, tasty food. Also, it was open on Sunday evening, which is also great (all other places nearby were closed)

There are so many reviews about one rude lady waitress, and it is completely true, i wonder will the management do something about her? There are also locals, who suffer, not only the tourists who have to endure it once.

Traditional German hotel with modern interior. It is clean and comfortable. Parking is convenient and free. My dog also stayed for no extra charge, and there was a small park across the road to take him to. The breakfast was simple but has the basics. The staff are friendly and attentive. The food at the restaurant is excellent. There was just one waitress working when I was there on a Friday night for dinner, and she was very busy because there was quite a lot of guests. She was doing her best, but it did cause more waiting for the guests. Still had a good experience overall.

Beautiful, large, comfortable rooms. Room 217 has a great view of the peaks. Very friendly, accommodating hosts and staff. Nice location. Delicious dinner in the restaurant. Good breakfast. Good prices for rooms and food.

Good location, basic rooms but clean and with essentials. No elevator so you have to carry any heavy bags up 2 floors potentially. Food and drinks in the restaurant is excellent. Beautiful simple food with excellent attention to detail. Breakfast also great. The breads are real. Double thumbs up.

My husband and I were so pleased to eat a wonderfully delicious meal at this charming hotels dining room. Coming in from a heavy misty rain to this charming welcoming place...sipping on some tasty brews...being served two Bavarian meals...a pleasure to our taste buds. If I could remember the names of the dishes, I would let you know...but my goulash soup was amazing...served in a super cute crockpot...warm...flavorful! The salads were plentiful, so fresh. My husband enjoyed his breaded pork dish with shredded horseradish on the side so much...he insisted on returning again and ordering the same dish...three times during our stay in the area! The waiters were charming...so helpful...the atmosphere...just what we were looking for on our trip to Bavaria!
