Despite its central location and grand facade, once inside, the Globe et Cecil felt like a Miami retirement home circa 1984. Needless to say most of the clients are what the French call "troisième age."
That wouldn't have been a problem for me since all I needed was a comfy, practical place to stay for one night but I had other issues with my stay.
My single room was divided into two small areas, the bedroom, which was near the door, and a waiting room by the window. The layout was a little odd, but it would have been fine if the carpeted corridor connecting the two wasn't drenched, undoubtedly from the previous occupant's inability to keep the water within the bathroom because the shower has no door and water spills all over the bathroom floor when you use it!
What's so hard about putting a door, needless to say a curtain on the shower?? Especially in a hotel that charges 100E per night, which is high end in Lyon.
After the carpet issue piqued the critic in me, the coral colors, fake flowers and sad, old school furnishings started to get me down too. Luckily, I only stayed one night, and don't plan on returning again.
