Extraordinary and mystical. This Marquesas island is a must see if you want to be transported to a place far from the rest of the world. The hotel was great and the staff worked hard to give us a wonderful experience. Food was good but the excursions and the local guides were the best. The hotel coordinated everything. The view from our bungalow was beyond breathtaking. Truly a unique and treasured experience. We will be back.

just to point out: Marquesas Islands is far far different from usual idea of Polynesia. so it's NOT the typical pacific paradise you see in travel catalog.||it's yet savage and not so "international" so also its structures are not so developed.||Said so, Hanakee Lodge s really the best of island, even is not even comparable to resorts in Bora Bora, per example.||But... a nice place, with a good service and staff was always happy to assist you, even if their technical skills (in particular regarding hôtellerie) are a bit rough.||Rooms are clear and a bit "spartan", and honestly a huge refresh should be done.||Its manager, a gentle lady, is very capable and smart.||What was instead terrible is food: they have no idea about cousine: cooking is simply the way they do at their home.||To sum up: good for these islands, but not for international tourists.||And.... If You don't speak French.. You are a bit lost.||Nice point: even in a remote island, they did accept it Apple Pay!||(I say so as in famous resorts such as Relays&Chateux (TAHA'A and BORA BORA) with all their bells and whistles ..) DO NOT accept: a shame, 99% of tourists there do have iPhone)

We spent 3 nights there during our honeymoon and we are so happy we did. The views from the restaurant and from our room was incredible, the infinity pool stunning luxury, and our room lovely, and filled with nice touches : flowers on our bed, some monoi gift. The staff was kind and approachable and very helpful : they went out of their way a few time to help us out. I am quite puzzled by the comments saying the staff was racist towards French ! I am french and my husband British, and everyone was wonderful to us. Maybe you get what you project ? 😘 We look forwards to coming back to Hiva Oa one day, and will surely threat ourselves to another few nights there ✨

We are on a sailboat and took advantage of their 10am to 4pm offer with lunch and taxi to/from the port. The pool is lovely as is the staff, and the food. We then came back for dinner, again with the taxi to/from the port. Excellent! What bliss after so long afloat!

We took advantage of their day pass for sailors which is from 10am to 4pm and includes lunch and taxi to/from the port. A wonderful afternoon! We then came back another time for dinner, again taxi provided to/from the port. You can email them but a phone call is better.

We stayed 4 nights here on Hiva Oa, and enjoyed the lovely property. The view over the ocean is perfect and we definitely enjoyed morning coffee and evening cocktails on the balcony of our bungalow. It was very relaxing. The staff were very accommodating and friendly, some speak English and some do not. But that is what we expected in the Marquesas. We enjoyed 2 days of tours that were arranged by the hotel staff, and Henry was a most enjoyable guide. He truly gave us the flavor of the islands, the history, and made the stay so much more interesting for us 'tourists'! I suspect visiting Marquesa islands is a 1 time event for most people and I would take full advantage of the activities so you get a real flavor for the island and the boat trip to the next-door island is also quite fun and relaxing. The breakfast buffet does leave a lot to be desired (in comparison with the usual) but we did enjoyed the dinners. All in all it was a very lovely stay and we are so happy that we had a chance to visit the beautiful island of Hiva Oa.

This is one of the few accommodations on Hiva Oa, and while a bit pricey, I was not sure what to expect. We stayed here prior to visiting another Pearl Lodge (which had similar bungalows but more updated) so part of my perspective is influenced by the other property. The lodge itself is high in the hills above town (and not an easy journey for self-navigation though they offer a shuttle in the morning and afternoon). The views are great from the property overlooking the town and water. The bungalows themselves are all similar just with different vantage points. We had a nice ocean view from our balcony. The room itself was a little dated and could stand some freshening up (e.g., my window screen had tears) though comfortable. It also had a small outside deck. The hotel offered excursions (really good) and the restaurant was good (even though you were a bit of a captive audience). They also ran a show two nights a week with Marquesan dancing and song. Since you are captive, suggest going with Full Board (not a lot of options in town). Lots of roosters, so make sure to bring or use the provided ear plugs!

We had a great stay at Hanakee Lodge in Hiva Oa. Best and only hotel on the island - and only 2 hotels in Marquesas). Property was as expected and as shown on the website. Lots of character with modern amenities. We had a bungalow facing the ocean and the mountain. The view is simply breathtaking. To enjoy that view during our entire stay from the bed, the desk (while I WFH) and outdoor space/balcony was a real treat and highlight of our mornings and evenings. Meals were delicious, breakfast was a typical European continental breakfast buffet (but with eggs), smaller lunch menu but rotating nightly dinner menu which were delicious.||||Keep in mind, you are in the middle of nowhere in nature (and an island in the middle of the Pacific) so expect bugs, geckos, insects and roosters! But embrace the environment - none of it was negative and actually added to the charm of being in Marquesas.||||The staff were excellent and the main reason our stay was enjoyable. Service from the heart. All friendly, accommodating and eager to please. Most spoke English and ones who didn't tried their very best and no issues for us. Thank you to Jean-Jacques, Yoen, Matilde, Nino, Evelyn, Pauline and Henry (excellent guide!) many others who made our stay enjoyable.||||We will be back!
