The 10 Best Iceland Hotels to Book Right Now - AFAR

"Set in the rugged inner Highlands of West Iceland, this Scandinavian-inspired resort centers on outdoor activity and sustainability, offering glacier hiking, caving, horseback riding, fishing, cycling, geothermal pools, hiking trails, and an eco-certified nine-hole golf course. The hotel’s fine-dining kitchen forages to create Nordic- and Japanese-influenced dishes—popular plates include hand-dived Westfjords scallops and grilled free-range horse skewers with Iceland-grown wasabi leaves—and the 48 rooms feature heated floors, original coal portraits, and organic birch-based toiletries; on-site hydroelectric plants supply the resort’s energy and can be toured by guests." - Nicholas DeRenzo, Elissa Garay

Hotel Husafell, Husafell, Iceland - Explore & Book

"The drive from the airport should have taken us 2 hours, but it took us 4. Iceland's ever-changing landscape had us pulling over every few minutes to admire yet another view: snow-topped mountains glowing in the sunlight, glistening waterfalls carving through moss-covered rock, dark clouds rolling overhead in a theatrical dance. Eventually we reached the ridge of a crater, and before us lay the striking structure of Hotel Húsafell - the perfect complement to the dramatic scenery. Located in the unspoilt west, between the Hraunfossar waterfalls and the Langjökull glacier, it’s clear why the tiny village of Húsafell (permanent population 10) has long been an Icelandic favourite. For many years, camping or summer villas were the only option for visitors looking to spend more than a day soaking up its natural beauty. That all changed in 2015, when the hotel opened its doors. Made from glass and stone, its 48 sleek rooms fan out from a central bar and restaurant, whose floor-to-ceiling windows show off the midnight sun in summer and the Northern Lights in winter. We’d intended to rush straight back out to explore, but we were soon lured by the delicious smells wafting from the kitchen, and the naturally heated water in the geothermal pools outside. There's no doubt about it: Hotel Húsafell has truly bottled Iceland’s magic. Highs Ideally situated for exploring Iceland’s west - ice caves, glacier tours and waterfalls are all nearby, and spectacular hikes start on the doorstep One of the best spots in the world to view the Northern Lights, with an average of 3 sightings a week in winter Two geothermal pools, a steam room and 2 hot tubs, where you can laze while gazing up at towering mountains Bright, minimalist rooms, many with private terraces and inspiring paintings by local artist Páll Guðmundsson Sophisticated food which blends Icelandic ingredients with Asian influences (and a good kids menu for those travelling with children) Lows As often in Iceland, food is expensive and vegetarian choices are limited, but there's a bistro next to the hotel (open periodically) Double beds are actually 2 singles pushed together, and some rooms look out onto shrubbery rather than the scenery There's nothing for miles but epic landscapes - you'll need a car to get here and get around It’s very popular with tour groups, but they tend to dine in a separate area so you won’t feel out of place We found the WiFi a little patchy, but with views like these, we didn't mind!" - Emily McDonnell

Hotel Husafell | Best places to stay in Iceland

"Hotel Husafell sits in its own remote valley on the edge of the mighty Langjokull glacier, and numerous outdoor adventures are on offer here, from ice caving to glacier hiking. The hotel itself is a smart, inviting space: a cluster of single-storey buildings clad in timber and glass, with luxuries including underfloor heating, slate bathrooms and artworks by Icelandic artist Pall Gudmundsson. The hotel’s Icelandic restaurant is open for dinner and offers views of the highlands through floor-to-ceiling glass windows. " - Oliver Berry

This is a beautiful, moden eco friendly hotel in a stunning setting. Every window in the restaurant is like viewing a perfect sceninc painting. The rooms and parts of the hotel we saw were immaculately clean. The underfloor heating in September was wonderfull. The cost of a standard room was the most we have ever and will ever pay for a nights stay in a hotel. Given that, the reception we got on arrival was a tad dissapointing. We arrived one hour before check in, and were greeted and told that the room wasn't ready and that we could sit in the entrance hall area. We settled down but there was no offer of a welcome drink. This may be a particular expectaion of the British, because we would generally get this from a hotel even if we had paid a quarter of what we paid here. We didnt eat in the restaurant as it was more than our budget allowed. Note the Bistro isnt open for evening meals. Overall we enjoyed our 2 night stay here especially enjoying the breakfast which has an amazing variety of food on offer including their delicious home made Buckthorn jam.

Stayed one night at the Hotel Husafell. It is a pretty little place about 90 minutes outside Reykjavik. Our room was clean and covered all the basics. Liked that it had a functioning window and door to step outside - that came in handy for the Northern Lights viewing (they ring you in the night if the lights are visible)! Wrote a separate review for the restaurant...which was fantastic! Exceeded all our expectations. The location was great to walk to the Husafell stone and take a wander through the historic "park" that was just a short walk away. If we'd had another day or two we would have done some other hikes nearby as well. Great location for doing several tours. We opted for the Into the Glacier tour and you can walk to the pickup point. Would absolutely stay here again.

Pleasant check in staff, food in restaurant was one of the best we had in iceland. Bed was amazing and room was clean. Love the idea that they promote sustainability and support local icelandic business owners. Would definitely revisit.

Fabulously designed and modern but sustainably themed hotel. Very light. Didn't realise we would get use of outdoor pools which was a bonus. Very helpful and friendly staff. If there was a 6th point on the rating scale, I would have selected it. This truly is a wonderful hotel with an incredible restaurant, which you would not expect in this location. ||We had a lovely room, huge bathroom with walk-in shower and a huge bath, double sinks. The room was lovely with a sofa and an armchair. The staff were all so lovely, nothing was too much trouble and they were happy to make recommendations and answer questions.||The lounge area is small but lovely and we had a pleasant time sitting and relaxing with drinks there. The staff come out to the tables or you can go to the bar. ||Great views from the restaurant and the food is superb - every dish is interesting and varied, cooked brilliantly and presented artistically. The lamb was superb and if you have room, try the green apple sorbet. ||It was too cold for hiking or golf for us, but if those are your interests and you're there in the Spring / Summer, it would be perfection.

Stayed here for 3 nights. The rooms, staff and swimming pools were excellent. Only let down by a very limited menu in the restaurant.

Fantastic hotel in a stunning location with a restaurant and amenities to match. Take advantage of the seasonal tasting menu if you can. Grab a beer or a glass of wine and head to one of the three soaking pools on site. The location is surrounded by glacier capped peaks, an amazing trout river. And if golf is your thing, there’s a course there too. Had we not been there to fish, we would have certainly played a round. The rooms were clean and super comfortable, great water pressure in the shower, and staff were incredibly warm, welcoming, and helpful. there was even a playground by the Hot Springs and had my toddler been there. I think she would’ve had the time of her life. Would absolutely stay here again, with or without family.
