"Occupying the atmospheric setting of the Eden theatre, a former late-19C musical café, this restaurant adorned with beautiful Liberty-style frescoes is the perfect backdrop for elegant, well-balanced Mediterranean-inspired dishes. Young, talented chef Nicola Annunziata offers three tasting menus of five, seven and nine courses (the latter a surprise menu), with wine pairings recommended by capable sommelier Riccardo Ricci. If you’re looking for a quieter and more romantic ambience, book a table in the 14C icehouse, with its glass floor providing glimpses of the well-stocked wine cellar below." - Michelin Inspector

I was slightly apprehensive when I booked this hotel because it looks like it's away from the center of town. I was wrong. Bologna is so small that you can literally walk across the city with little trouble. The hotel is beautiful decorated. The room that I got was perfectly set up for business and leisure. I love it when some basic amenities are readily in the room such as a clean coffee machine that I can make when I'm up before cafes open. The lighting, the bed and pillows are so comfortable. The bathroom is relatively spacious with a nice rain shower head. Overall, I highly recommend this place. The only slightly funky is the layout of the staircase. There was a staircase that I took that I couldn't get to my room unless I walk through the kitchen of the restaurant on the 2nd floor n. Maybe it was me. Overall, this is a beautiful, well thought-out hotel.

This hotel was an absolute hidden gem for us and a pleasant surprise. We wanted to book accommodation close to the train station, something nice and comfy, and we were thrilled to discover that it was also home to a great Osteria and a Michelin-starred restaurant. The food was delicious, and the room was exactly what we needed—clean, quiet, and with comfortable beds.

In a more normal scenario this could easily be a perfectly good hotel. The staff was generally very helpful and the garden terrace with a bar and pizza restaurant was excellent. Unfortunately the double bed room we received was not the queen room we reserved (which can be somewhat unclear when booking). The staff were very apologetic but no queen room was available for two nights. A significantly bigger issue is the incredibly loud, never ending construction on the street in front of the hotel. It was literally shaking the building at 7:45 in the morning. We were told they are building a new tram line so I wouldn't expect this to be finished any time in the next decade. Unfortunately the website does not mention this at all, causing us and the taxi trying to drop us off quite some difficulties. I would consider trying this hotel again in the future, however in it's current state is far too expensive for the value

This would be my 2nd time staying at Hotel I Portici. My first time was back in 2018 and it was definitely a 4+ star experience. HOWEVER, the interior, fixture and room amenities have aged significantly since then and I don't think they've had a renovations since my last visit 6 years ago. Few things they should really improve on: 1. Room Cleanliness: We've spent 2 nights there and both nights the floor and the bathroom were dusty. We never wear shoes past the entrance so the dust was just there in the room. They did provide slippers but it's a bit unacceptable to have dusty floors in a hotel room. 2. Noise: They gave us a room facing the main road. Which should be fine, except that the window serves zero noise cancellation purpose. There were also major construction happening on that road, and construction starts at 7am. I feel like this is definitely something the hotel should warn guests about ahead of time. The quality of their window is very poor and it doesn't shut properly. Aside from the construction noise, we could hear pedestrians talking and cars passing by. We were on the 4th floor and the noise level was just unacceptable. It also feels dishonest to put guests in a room like that and charge them the same price knowing that they won't be able to get a proper rest. 3. Indoor temperature and non-functioning AC: It was very warm through out the hotel and the room. it's 18-22c in Bologna last week and it was at least 25c indoor. The AC definitely didn't work. Some of the staff we saw were sweating. Not sure what's happening. 4. Bathroom amenities: It's just old and dusty. The shower leaks and it's dark. It definitely needs an update. 5. In-room refreshment: Don't all hotel give you free bottle of water per person every day? We've only had 1 bottle on day one. If we had known that there wouldn't be any water, we would've procured some on the way back. It's just inconvenient. They also provided INSTANT nestle coffee. this is unacceptable. At least provide drip packets of coffee if not a little espresso machine. Why would you even have the option of instant coffee powder? In Italy? That's just embarrassing. Overall the staff is very nice, it's a good and convenient location despite the construction. The hardware of the hotel is a zero star. I can't believe you house a 1-star restaurant on premise.

What a lovely stay at I Portici! The location is only a few minutes walk from central station, an easy walk. We arrived and were greeted by the most friendly staff. Our room was clean, a great size, fully equipped with toiletries.... I'm a fussy sleeper, so I mean it when I say the beds were comfortable...not too hard, not too soft...very clean rooms. The terrace on the 2nd floor is a posh yet chill place for a drink, also very friendly staff. I will definitely stay here again, it helped make our Bologna stay care free...exactly what you want on a holiday!

So the hotel is overall nice but there is a big problem. They don't use AC and tell you they can give you a fan or open the windows. Main problem is you open the windows they face the street all noise from people walking around and talking all night, cars, motorcycle, police. It is right know almost midnight and I'm here writing this review because the noise is unacceptable and a hotel having no AC and saying to open the windows is just ridiculous. You come to a hotel and except to get some rest that's the whole idea but it is impossible under these conditions. So if your used to having AC this is not a place for you to stay at

A welcoming and beautifully appointed space - Cafe Eden is part of the hotel offering comfortable sofas and armchairs or tables where you can work in a tranquil space. Attentive and friendly staff. Delicious coffee !
