"Situated in the hotel of the same name in a typical mountain-style property, this elegant restaurant offers two welcoming dining rooms with open fireplaces and a profusion of wood, where friendly service adds to the warm atmosphere. Although meat dishes tend to dominate on the menu, a greater focus on vegetables has developed over the years, largely thanks to the three kitchen gardens (two of which are owned by the restaurant) which supply these vegetables. Choose between two tasting menus (one traditional, the other more contemporary in style) and a good à la carte selection. We particularly enjoyed the “bottoni” with tumin del Mel (a fresh cheese that is a symbol of the Varaita valley), lamb gravy and cavolo nero. There’s also now a new bistro in the old bar which serves lighter yet equally interesting dishes." - Michelin Inspector

I booked the Albergo Nazionale on a motorcycle trip from Italy's Mediterranean coast towards Turin. The whole place Vernante is enchanting, a homage to the draftsman of the Pinocchio illustrations provides a charming touch throughout the place, as these drawings are found as large murals on buildings and walls. The Hotel Albergo Nazionale is a spot located directly on the through road (still quiet!!!) from/to Limone Piemonte, a high-quality dedicated restaurant and a small bistro-bar belong to the house. I went to the aperitivo in the cafe across the street (on the same side of the street), just relaxing the whole environment. My room was (although still "old wing") nice and big, there was a good bathroom. I would like to describe the breakfast as a nice highlight, apart from good coffee, you get everything you need or want in the buffet style. Parking at the hotel was possible without any problems with the motorbike. The entire staff was very friendly. If you want to make a stop in a somewhat "sleepy place", you will not be disappointed. I would book the Albergo Nazionale again!

The fact that we were unable to find a hotel in the neighbouring areas in France for the night, saw us try the Nazionale for one night. It was also a recent addition to the "Logis Hotels" network and being a big fan of them (you'll have probably noticed that if you read any of my other reviews ;-) ) we decided to give it a go. ||||We reserved the room with only a couple of hours notice by telephone and the person we spoke to was very pleasant and had a very good command of the English language. I don't speak word of Italian so this was a bonus!||||The Hotel is well located, being a short walk from the main "high street" of Vernante and abot 5 minutes walk from the Railway station. Being on the edge of the Alps means that the location is surrounded by mountains and there are good views to be had from most of the rooms. ||||Our room was bright and airy, facing a main road but with a good view of the mountains behind. There wasn't much traffic noise so sleep was not a real problem. The room also had a balcony which was a pleasant suprise.||||The bathroom was functional with a very small bath, not really something you could lie down in unless you were a very small person! However I would not let this detract from the overall high standard of the room. ||||The restaurant was clearly very popular with locals and we managed to get the last vacant table, only by virtue of the fact that we were staying in the hotel. ||||It's fair to say that the menu isn't cheap, 33€ for the set-menu before any drinks. However the quality of the food was simply superb - with the waiters (who spoke excellent english) explaining in detail what all the courses were and their own recommedations. ||||The wine list is where the hotel excels, with it being around 30 pages long if memory serves me correctly. Again the waiters are happy to recommend a wine with each course, and don't necessarily direct you to the more expensive vintages. ||||Breakfast in the morning was a self-service affair, with a range of cakes, chesses and pastries. ||||All in all a very pleasant hotel and if I found myself in the area again I would happily stay here.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights while skiing in Limone. I think this is an excellent alternative if you can’t find a hotel in Limone.||||It is just outside of Limone (a few minutes away) and easy to get to. We found plenty of free parking so this was not an issue. ||||I was traveling with my girlfriend and our 3-year-old son so we needed an extra bed. The first night we had the larger Family Room but we had to move the second night to a smaller room due to a booking error. If you are traveling with your family, I would strongly recommend that you reserve the larger Family Room. Not only will you have two rooms but the Family Room was much nicer (more modern) and quieter. Another plus is that Wi-Fi coverage is much better on the 1st floor (second floor for Americans) because we had no signal on the higher floors. (I resorted to sitting in the lobby to be able to connect to the Internet – service there was much better.)||||We had dinner the second night at the hotel (this town is small and without too many options) and we were happy both with the service and the food. The restaurant is also popular with the locals. I think prices were decent. Breakfast buffet was included with our stay and it provided plenty of options to fill us up and to keep us energized during our skiing.||||The staff was very friendly, attentive and helpful (especially the brothers running the hotel) during our stay. I would have no problems staying here again.

We originally wanted to stay in Limone but booked late and were very glad we did! We had a triple room on the first floor (room 14) and thanks to a recent refurbishment, it was very memorable. The room was big, clean with a fabulous bathroom (check out the shower floor made from stones!) and lots of extra touches such as a dressing area, USB ports for your phone (no adaptors needed), atmospheric lighting and great products in the bathroom. Overall, great value for money and highly recommended!

This albergo has been around along time and has a lot of historic character. Its right on the main highway so ask for a room on the back. Our room was spacious and had a nice bathroom. The rate was reasonable but the breakfast was minimal. Its a great location to visit the Maritime Alps.

Very seldom||Y my wife and I get to choose a Hotel with a bar and a resto in a busy main road to a very active Border! we were so looking forward to stay there after someone recommended to stop by!!||Let me just say, if you want a comfy bed, good shower , spectacular breakfast and a very service oriented young owner.....this is solid three star,,,,seems to have a big clientele during the evening...and a full resto,,,,,but HEY!! That was enough to say ,,,,,we will come back!! The young owner during breakfast was outstanding and they have the best cappuccinos ever , and fresh apple juice !! After all you are in the alps!! ....you are in the main road that cross to France from VERNANTE !!

There are places that you do not want to leave, and when it's time to leave, you are already dreaming of coming back. This is a place like this. Where all the details are well thought: from interior decoration, special theme for every room, spa experience with a hot tea, fresh juices, fruits, nature sounds, beautiful breakfast. Better to book in advance. The place is very popular.
