Hotel Kämp (Helsinki, Finland) 2 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Helsinki’s finest hotel opened in 1887, and was the sort of place where well-heeled Finns like Sibelius could be spotted mixing with Europe’s aristocracy. A thorough reconstruction finds the Hotel Kämp in fighting form, restored to its Belle Epoque glory and again host to anyone who’s anyone in Helsinki." - Tablet Hotels

My favorite hotels in the world have been the Connaught in London, Raffles in Singapore, the Oriental in Bangkok, the ParK Hyatt in Tokyo … to name several. Each has a unique character of excellence that can take more than one visit to understand. This Kamp Hotel in Helsinki is absolutely their peer. It is undergoing major - like once in 100 year - construction. Gigantic cranes, jack hammers … yet as guest, I would never know. My room was absolutely silent, the “temporary” restaurant is very pleasant. Service is excellent. It takes a truly great hotel to pull that off.

The hotel is located in the heart of city center. Lots of shops and restaurants in the immediate vicinity which makes things very easy. Very close to train stations and many tram lines nearby. Staff and service are great. Breakfast is great. The hotel has a lot of tradition and is maintained very well. The gym is quite good too. Rooms are not very big but spacious enough. Bathroom is very nicely designed and comfortable.

Pros|Pre-stay communication was handled well by the front desk and reservations department, and my early check-in request was honored.||Both the arrival and departure experiences were excellent and welcoming. The front desk staff were friendly and even remembered that I had stayed here before.||Hotel Kämp has finally switched from small cosmetic bottles to larger, reusable ones, which are both environmentally and user-friendly.||Both breakfast and dinner at Notes by Kämp were of high quality, and the service was professional and well-executed. The Japanese-style decor of the restaurant was also much appreciated and added to the overall dining experience.||The room was luxurious, and I had a good night’s sleep in the bed. It was also a nice touch to receive a small welcome gift and card—especially thoughtful that the gift was chocolates instead of an alcoholic beverage, as I don’t drink.||Cons|I didn’t experience any major cons during my stay, and I hope to have the opportunity to return to Hotel Kämp soon!

❤️ Updated review: I want to say a big thank you to the hotel team. For me, aesthetics and atmosphere are very important, and I truly appreciate that they didn’t ignore my concerns but responded with kindness and care. They immediately offered me a beautiful new suite with a boulevard view, which made my last night in Helsinki truly special. Thank you for handling the situation with such attention and respect. (Disappointed with my stay. There was no information that the hotel is under renovation — facade completely covered, no lobby area, temporary breakfast served in a dark basement-like space with no atmosphere. You feel like you booked 3* hotel. You book Kämp for the aesthetics, but right now there is none. Breakfast selection is also very limited — no included à la carte options like Eggs Benedict, only basic omelette. The view from the room is also disappointing — facing a dull inner courtyard, making you want to keep the curtains closed all the time. Definitely not the experience I expected.)

I understand that the hotel is undergoing renovation—much needed, I admit. I even understand why this isn’t widely advertised to unsuspecting travelers who book rooms hoping for a premium experience; after all, who would willingly choose to stay on a construction site? What I don’t understand, however, is why there are no discounts or advance information about the rooms and facilities being unavailable or altered due to the renovation. ||A five-star hotel is not just a place to sleep—if that were all I needed, I could’ve booked an Airbnb. It’s supposed to offer a complete experience, including the pleasure of arriving at and staying in a grand, historic building. None of that remains. The entire hotel is covered in scaffolding. The bar and restaurant are closed. The spa is closed. The gym is unavailable. Breakfast is served in a provisional space. And yet—astonishingly—you’re still charged the full price, as if everything were running as usual.||Frankly, I don’t know what’s more outrageous: the lack of transparency or the lack of basic courtesy. As it stands, this hotel does not meet five-star standards. The furnishings are basic - our teenager had to sleep on a lousy fold-out bed, even though the room we booked clearly showed two full-size beds in the picture; the toiletries are minimal (no toothbrushes), and the à la carte breakfast options are limited to fried eggs. I know we’re in Scandinavia, where overt luxury may be frowned upon—but perhaps visit the Grand Hotel in Stockholm to see how it can still be done with grace.||But that’s for the future. As of July 2025, my experience at Hotel Kämp was simply awful. I wish I had booked the Clarion—or anything else, really. At least I might have had a view of the city, rather than scaffolding. And perhaps I’d have smelled a room diffuser, not building fumes seeping through the corridors of a hotel still daring to charge luxury prices for a deeply un-luxurious stay.

Kamp has always been my favorite hotel in Helsinki due to its excellent location, lively bar, fantastic breakfast and delivering an exceptional 5* service. As an Amex Centurion card holder, I appreciate the Fine Hotel benefits and the expectation that any hotel I choose will give me a memorable experience. This one however was memorable how awful it was. Kamp is going through a major renovation. They purchased the building next store and have added rooms. They then closed the rooms portion of the old hotel and are renovating them. All fine and good, except the hotel is a construction zone. The room the put me in (claiming to be e an executive room), was half the size of the normal executive rooms and right in the Main Street. (They also toured the park view which is past the street). Between the street noise and the construction noise, it was impossible to get any rest during the daytime hours. To get to the gym, you have to literally go through a construction site. To get to your room, you have to make either an elevator transfer or walk stairs. The bar was a portion of their pop-up restaurant. No terrace and no people. The breakfast room had literally wall to wall tables. You could hear everyone’s conversations and visa-versa. Hampton Inns give a better breakfast experience. All of this at the normal price! This was not a 5* experience and they should be ashamed promoting it as such. They should have either fully closed the hotel down or let people know, for the next year, “we are not a 5* hotel”. Definitely should not be charging 5* prices. I’ve stayed there over 50 nights in my life and they have now lost my business. There is a new 5* hotel that recently opened in Helsinki and I will be staying there.

I would love to give the full 5 stars, but unfortunately the breakfast was so underwhelming that I must deduct one star. ||First if all, this is the most legendary hotel in Finland. Even tho the Hotel Maria has opened (soon to be Waldorf Astoria), Kämp is much more elegant and traditional in a way. Very descreet and private. ||The service was always top notch. Even tho Finland is not know for its great and friendly service (as it really shouldnt), the staff at Kämp were truly professional and provided first class service. Soft smiles and always helpful attitude ready to offer any service needed. ||The room was also top notch. Maybe even better than top notch. A great mix of modern and classic and elegant. Every detail was finished. The two twin corner suite we had was massive, with 2 separate bedrooms. The airconditioning was also very strong, great in summer. The bed was incredibly soft and comfy. ||The gym was definitely not a highlight, as it was placed into a random corner with a few gadgets and some yoga mats. ||The location is also as good as possible in Helsinki. Literally steps away from everything. ||The only major disappointment was the lounge and breakfast. I did not even know they had a ”club” lounge, but perhaps its a good thing they do not advertise it, as the snacks consisted of some crackers, chocolate and cookies and ham. It could ve compared to the free snacks coctail bars offer when you arrive. ||The breakfast was not much better. We were offered a menu, where the attendant told we could order eggs any style. I straight away asked for a scrambled egg with ham. Then she took the menus and we went to explore the buffet. The buffet was very small, and missed some must-haves. There was no smoothie / youghurt with a flavor, other than a vegan version. No desserts such as pancakes, waffle, muffins etc. There was a cinnamonroll tho, which was the highlight of the breakfast together with the croissant, which clearly was not fresh made. The juices were also not frrshly squized, but some water mixtures. The eggs were so oily, that we could nit finish them. At the end, thank god our breakfast was complimentary, as we really left with out feeling full and extremely disappointed. The breakfast was worse than at some Hilton Garden Inns.||At the end, I would visit again if the breakfast is improved drasticly. Otherwise, I would visit Maria in the future.

Didn't stay here. I wanted to, but with the whole renovations is still ongoing to the point that the entire street facade has been cordoned off, I'd rather stay elsewhere Cause...at that point you'd be better off shutting the whole place down until the renovation was complete instead of continuing to operate. Very concerning that a 5-star hotel can act like some cheap 3-star hotel somewhere in Dhaka or Makassar

Yelp
The rooms are nice, bed is comfortable. Just make sure you choose a room that is faced toward inneryard otherwise you risk waking up to alot of noice. Like the garbege truck etc. I prefere having breakfast at a local cafe since it wasnt that extra ordinare at the hotel. We had alot of meetings during my stay and the staff was a little bit distured even though i had to pay extra to get a table at the lobby.

Yelp
Stayed 3 nights during my first visit to Helsinki & could got have chosen a better spot to stay. The location is great, close to the water, wonderful restaurants & coffee shops nearby and conveniently located near shopping and downtown Helsinki. The rooms are very spacious, meticulously kept and quiet for a restful night sleep. The people that work here from the front desk to the restaurant could not be more helpful. It is a bit pricey but well worth the money that you'll spend. We took advantage of the restaurant for a delicious buffet type breakfast to start the day but if you want something lighter many cafe's close by. Also used the exercise facility which is associated with a spa on the 8th floor that had everything I needed. This is a wonderful hotel & would recommend it!

Yelp
This is a good hotel in Helsinki, but not for other cities. My problems began at check-in. There were ample rooms available, but they did not upgrade my room based on my gold Starwood status. Hotels have some discretion in giving upgrades, but with plenty of rooms available it makes business sense to upgrade customers. The rooms were nice, but not fabulous. The service was attentive. My primary problem with the hotel is its value. For the cost, I expected a nicer room with turn down service. Additionally, the 10 euro charge to bring anything to my room was excessive. For example, the service charge exceeds a late night pot of coffee. Lastly is the laundry service. I paid over 100 euro for 1 suit, a few shirts and undershirts. That is robbery. Worse, most of my items were delivered a day late and shrunken. The hotel tried to stretch out the items and that was partially successful. Helsinki does not have many high end hotels. Unfortunately, the Hotel Kamp is the only choice. I hope they treat me better next time.

Yelp
The Kamp is probably the finest hotel in Helsinki. The staff here is exceptionally trained in the art of hospitality. Usually this place is full of Russians, crossing the border to savor the luxury and that illusive commodity called SERVICE offered by the western world.

Beautiful classic well-located hotel with a totally delicious latte. Pro tip: awesome bathroom downstairs.

Yelp
This review is the result of around 80 nights at this hotel over the last 7 months for a work project. NOTE: If I did not have SPG Platinum status then my rating would be lower, since I find the internet and breakfast costs here quite expensive! The VIBE: 3.5 Stars - Let me first say, Helsinki is a fairly sleepy town as far as capitals go. I had to adjust my expectations overall of what kind of energy level to expect in this city. So, although there only seems to be a little bit of "vibe" here at Hotel Kamp, it is likely more than you will get most places... The style is old-world classic, with hints of Russian architecture and a quality finish out. The clientele is almost entirely people here on business or tourist groups stopping in during a St. Petersberg cruise. The ROOM: 3.5 Stars - My own experience was 4.5 stars because I got upgraded almost constantly from the 3rd month forward after I got to know the hotel staff. But the standard rooms are decent for the price paid, not amazing. The beds are fairly comfortable, the temperature was sometimes spotty. There are separate desks for getting work done, and the rooms have good size for being in Europe. The best part of these rooms are the bathrooms, finished out in bright marble. Even standard rooms have baths and separate standing showers, good water pressure and temperature, and good toiletries. In my 4 years of consulting, I have never taken toiletries home to use while not traveling....until now. This soap is so good I have literally hoarded like 25 little bars of it to continue using. The SERVICE: 5 stars - The staff here are pretty great, mostly reserved yet extremely helpful. They have honored all of the small requests I've made, with a smile. I am upgraded constantly, most of them know me by name, and when I walk in for breakfast, I don't have to say anything, they already know what to bring. Now, being a creature of habit helps a bit, but I never really had to ask for this service....they just do it...and they don't accept tips! The Bottom Line - If you have status that allows for free internet and discounted breakfast, this is a great place. If not, those incremental costs can be annoying and you should evaluate the GLO chain. If you are staying for an extended period, this place's service is better than any other option you'll find in Helsinki.

Yelp
Went here for a drink and had a great experience. Interior is elegant and comfortable, and the bartender was excellent.

Yelp
Normally I love the restaurant and the hotel is okay though not the best in helsinki. However this stay is appalling: tried to reach room service and the reception from my room and did not get through for 30minutes. Finally had to call the reception with my own personal cell phone and no apologies. Not five stars in my scale.

Yelp
Stayed at Hotel Kämp in January for 3 nights. The hotel itself is excellently located right in the center of the city and the overall quality is good. They claim to be a five star hotel but in practice I got a 3-4 star experience. Disappointments: - My king size bed was actually just two small beds pushed together under a single sheet so I was not able to sleep in the middle of the bed - No free wlan. - TV/Radio system not very intuitive and was purely focused on trying to sell additional entertainment packages - Actually any additional feature/service came at an additional cost e.g. I paid 20 euros to use the steam room in the spa. However there were no showers outside the steam room and sauna, instead you had to walk past the spa's reception to the men's locker room to take a shower - The hotel charged me for using the minibar although I had not taken anything from it. I guess there was some kind of auto-detector which registered moving an item as a purchase (5 star service??). - When returning to the hotel late one evening I was first greeted by a very serious security guard demanding to see my room key to prove I'm a hotel guest. I'd had preferred a "good evening, how are you" instead of being suspect to intrusion What I liked: - clean, quiet rooms - good bathrooms with both shower and tub - excellent location - the hotel bar was good, seemed to be favored also by people not staying at the note - overall, the atmosphere was peaceful SUMMARY - it's a good hotel if you get a good deal. otherwise I would not like to pay a 5 star price for what would be a typical 4 star hotel

Yelp
Stayed one night July 11th before flying back to Los Angeles. We had gone to St. Petersburg for 4 nights prior to our stay and they held our bags for us at no charge. The rooms were beautiful, staff friendly and efficient. The location can't be beat! Would stay there on my next visit to Helsinki.

Yelp
LOVE this hotel. They upgraded me to an amazing suite and are treating my like a queen. The room is pretty, clean and spacious. They have Molton Brown bath products in the room. Turn down service is amazing -- a fresh red rose, yummy candy and bottled water. They goofed today on a small item, and I told them. It was no big deal. Well, they send a tray of fresh fruit, swiss chocolate and a big bottle of champagne on the house. This is what customer service is all about. I'd return here in a second! The location cannot be beat -- central to shopping, the water and wonderful restaurants. I had dinner at Pure last night and it was delish!! Stay at this hotel if you can. Contrary to the other poster, my king bed was a legitimate king, and the sheets are yummy. Also, they have free wifi.

Yelp
KAMP is a really good hotel. I booked it because apparently it was the best in Helsinki. This is probably true, however, what you get compared to what you pay for is in my opinion a bit out sync. There was nothing spectacular or 5-star about it. Don't get me wrong, the room was spacious, impeccable, well decorated... but the rest of the experience was just so average that I probably will not go back or pay a premium for on my return trips. It just seems to be a status hotel (this is where the rich people stay) as opposed to a truly high quality, high experience hotel. Staff was nice. Location was great. Very close to the trams. If it was $100 cheaper it would probably get another star from me.
