The Van der Valk seems to be something of a staple here, and for visitors, a nice retreat. It has a rural feel, while not being in the middle of nowhere. The hotel is equipped with all the usual amenities, and a very nice fitness/wellness center, which has a large indoor swimming pool. Additionally, there is a very nice restaurant that serves a variety of Dutch/German dishes, along with a few others. The hotel lounge has a surprising whiskey selection. The grounds are very well maintained, and there is very convenient parking. Moreover, the hotel is located immediately off a main highway, which provides access to many activities. For military personnel, the Van der Valk is convenient to JFC Brunnsum.
As mentioned, the Van der Valk is a local staple and probably has been for some time. As a result, the average age of the guests tends to be very high. Younger, professional aged couples and individual guests are definitely in the minority.
Food is very good, but not stellar. Enjoyable, but not enough to keep you from hitting other local restaurants. Wine selection is respectable. Decor has a lot of character. Breakfast is notable.
Service is phenomenal. Nearly the entire staff (right down to housekeeping), are bi or trilingual, and switch on the fly. All are dedicated to ensuring you get want you want or need.
