The Hotel Hits Keep Coming in Croatia

"This large, modern hotel on the Lapad peninsula—about a 15-minute bus ride from the Old Town—overlooks the green hills above Lapad Bay, the Adriatic, and the beachfront. Completely refurbished in 2015, its lobby and lounge feature floor-to-ceiling windows, low furniture, and white decor, so nothing distracts fromthe views of the sparkling sea and sky. For even more gorgeous vistas, guests can go just below the hotel to the long pedestrian boulevard, which is filled with cafés and restaurants with plenty of outdoor seating. Guest rooms here are done up in restful tones of sisal and cream, with oversize charcoal sketches by a Croatian artist hung on wall panels behind the beds. The full-service spa has an indoor pool, Finnish sauna, and steam room, while a large deck features a bar and outdoor pool. Also on site is a restaurant with a wide terrace, and the top-floor Zenith Bar, which is best for sunset views."

Your first impression is the stunning view from reception across Lapad. The hotel is right on the bay and you can use either the sunbeds round the pool or at the lido on the other side. The rooms are spacious and recently refurbished with fridge, TV, air conditioning, bath & shower and plenty of storage space. All the staff are very friendly and welcoming and do everything to help you enjoy your holiday. The food is excellent quality with several different meat, fish and vegetarian dishes each night and a live band playing every night. The desserts were particularly impressive. There are 3 supermarkets within 10 minutes walk from the hotel for all your essentials. To get to Dubrovnik, turn left out the restaurant and walk 10 minutes to the bus stop and get the number 6 bus. It's cheaper (1.73 euros) to buy tickets in advance at the bus stop or from any of the Tisak newsagent kiosks. If there are 4 of you, you might as well get an Uber from reception for 8-9 euros. Cavtat is also worth visiting (bus 10 from Dubrovnik, 4 euros). For the Elaphiti islands, you can see them all on one day as a tour for 60 euros but you will only get an hour on Kolocep and Sipan. If you have more time, it's best do them on the ferry, which is much cheaper (5 euros each way) and you have more time there. If you go to Sipan, follow signs to the Danicic winery where you can try their excellent wine, olives, tomatoes, cheese and focaccia bread. Korcula is also worth visiting (14 euros each way on the catamaran).

We are just back from a 7 night stay in this hotel. ||Pros:|- Cleanliness is 10/10 with lovely light decor. |- Staff are friendly and efficient |- The views from reception are spectacular |- The location is very pleasant – about a 10-minute Uber ride from the old town. It offers easy access to the sea and features a lovely promenade perfect for walking, with plenty of restaurants and bars along the way.|- Room sizes are very generous. We had multiple rooms and all were of the same size. |- There is live music at the bar downstairs. |- The rooms offer plenty of storage space – in fact, the wardrobe was the largest I’ve ever had in a hotel. There are also additional drawers, which made it really easy to keep everything organized during the stay |- The pool was lovely and cool when it was so hot outside. ||Cons: |- Be careful what room you book as majority that are on the side of the hotel will not have a typical sea view. If anything you will mainly be looking at a wall.|- As highlighted in several previous reviews, the breakfast food is unfortunately not served hot. Items such as omelettes, scrambled eggs, and bacon were lukewarm at best. It’s surprising this hasn’t been addressed, given how often it has been mentioned by guests.|- The pool area itself is very nice, but it feels a bit overcrowded. The hotel has maximized the number of sun loungers around the pool, and there’s also an additional area by the sea with extra loungers, which is a good option. We were told that staff would check room numbers to prevent non-guests from using the loungers (since the seaside area has public access), but I never saw this happening. It seemed that many of the loungers were taken by people who weren’t hotel guests, which often left paying guests without a spot. The hotel really needs to manage this better, for example by monitoring usage and removing towels or belongings that are left reserving loungers for hours without anyone actually using them.|- The pool is lovely as mentioned but it is in need of a few repairs to tiles and grouting ||All I in all, this could be a five star review if easy improvements are made. It’s just up to the hotel to take them onboard.

Good stay. Amazing view from when you enter through the lobby, rooms are very clean and a good size. Breakfast could do with more options and most days the scrambled eggs were lukewarm, Pool has amazing view but the beds do get very busy. All staff are very helpful and friendly, really liked Ivan, Samantha, Paulo, Hristijan and Samuel!

Fabulous hotel, the views from the reception will take your breath away!! The location was great, with lots of beautiful restaurants around! The staff were the real jewels in the crown and an absolute credit to the hotel, I wish I could list all the names of the staff, but unfortunately I can't remember the names, except Kristian, David, Ivan. The breakfast was lovely with a large choice and it was so nice to sit outside. I would highly recommend this hotel

Hotel is really nice, good location and stunning views over the bay.|Rooms are comfortable.|Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Went as part of a tui cruise and stay holiday.|Negatives.|Expensive. |Bathrooms need a shower mat, you have to climb over the bath ledge into bath for a shower, it is quite a big step and very slippy in bath. Grab rail would be useful.|Bedrooms need drawers to put general bits and pieces away.|Housekeeping, not sure why they came in at night as they don't do anything bar leave 2 chocolates.|Pool. Not enough sun loungers when busy. Pool is very cold. |Need to make people aware the beach is not sandy, but stones and pebbles.||However that all said it is a really nice hotel.

This hotel is in a PERFECT location. Tons of restaurants in walking distance along the beautiful path. You could stay here for a month and not run out of options. Room was very clean with great service. This hotel really feels like you are staying at a resort with everything you need. Pool was great but need to go early for loungers. Beach was awesome with day beds provided. Beach is all rocks so it’s a little tough to go in and out of water without water shoes. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Dubrovnik with only a 10€ uber to Old town for day trips. Very satisfied with my stay overall.

What a beautiful hotel, and what a perfect location. Our balconies looked over the infinity pool and the sea. The bar, pool bar and restaurant were great, and supermarkets and cafes were a few minutes stroll away. Easy bus trip into the old town. The staff were superb, even bringing two of us cakes on our birthdays. We’ll be back!

We have just returned home after a 14 night stay at Hotel Kompas. Our whole experience, from start to finish, was magnificent and throughly enjoyable.||Firstly, I have to comment on the staff. All the staff we met were friendly, professional and made us feel welcome. They are clearly hard-working and they are a credit to the hotel.||Secondly, the location. Sitting on the edge of Sunset Beach, Hotel Kompas is in the perfect location to explore Dubrovnik and further afield. The boulevard that runs up past the hotel offers an excellent variety of places to eat and bars to get a nice drink.||We stayed on the 10th floor of the hotel and our room was magnificent. We had our 15 year old daughter staying in our room with us and we had plenty of space for the three of us. Our balcony had a fantastic view of the Adriatic Sea and was perfect for chill out time in the warm Croatian evenings. Our room was cleaned every day, to a very high standard.||Hotel Kompas has many wonderful amenities. The 10th floor reception has breathtaking views over the Adriatic Sea; they have to be seen to be believed. The Zenith Bar, also on the 10th floor, was a stunning place for an early evening cocktail. The pool area was equally magnificent. Whilst there are ample sun beds, it never felt crowded and the atmosphere was incredibly relaxed and chilled; exactly what you want from a holiday. The pool itself was wonderful, again offering a beautiful view of both Sunset Beach and the sea. There is also a lovely bar area where you get a nice cold drink and something to eat. The whole vibe of the pool area was relaxed and pleasant.||On the bottom level of the hotel was the Sphere restaurant and bar. Again, the atmosphere was relaxed, friendly and chilled out. We tried a range of cocktails during our stay and all were delicious. There was live music every night, with different acts. All the acts were superb and the music totally fitted the overall vibe of the hotel; nice and mellow and not too loud. It was a beautiful spot to watch the Sun go down and the Moon rise, whilst chilling with a lovely drink and live music.||We were on a bed and breakfast basis and I must say that the breakfasts were tremendous. There was a large variety of options, from a good mixture of cereal, pastries and yogurts to hot options like bacon and eggs, with many more options as well. The food was constantly replenished and the waiting staff were very friendly and attentive.||All in all, this was a truly tremendous holiday. We had trips into Dubrovnik Old Town, which is incredibly easy to get to by public bus. We also took longer day trips into Bosnia and Herzegovina (Mostar) and Montenegro (Kotor). Both were superb days out and well worth undertaking. It was a ten minute walk to the harbour at Lapad. I can also recommend a visit to the Red History Museum, on the opposite side of the harbour (35 minute walk from Hotel Kompas).||Thank you to all the staff at Hotel Kompas for making our holiday so enjoyable and special.
