"Here, diners can sit beneath a stylishly painted historical ceiling or out on the pretty terrace with adjoining garden. The kitchen draws on traditional French cuisine to propose creative dishes in the form of a four- to six-course menu. Plus the wine list is one of the best in Germany. Alternatively, try the bistro. Guests can also stay overnight in the hotel of the same name in cosy, well-appointed guestrooms." - Michelin Inspector

Nov. 2025 • COUPLES The Kronenschlösschen is one of our absolutely favourite restaurants. We have been going there for 20 years or so and have seen many changes and phases. There is a new chef in the kitchen and we experienced the ’soft opening‘. The food has a freshness and a lightness which is, frankly, amazing. Gone are the heavy cream-laden offerings which are so often to be found in restaurants that call themselves the best. Instead the balance between herbs and the underlying base offering was expert and to be found in every course. On arrival, we were served an excellent champagne, followed by a Riesling Spätlese from 1998, both excellent in their own way, and fitting to the food to be served. Thereafter wines were recommended, but were by no means essential. I, as a philistine, was happy to continue with mineral water, the experts drank the wine and thoroughly enjoyed them. The Kronenschlösschen has always been famed for its wine list, rightly so. The experts, of which I am decidedly not one, wax lyrical over the breadth and depth of the wines on offer, which can suit every palate and (almost) every budget. The staff were attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. They were able to give, or find the answers for, every question we had. Even if by asking, we expressed our ignorance. They made us feel comfortable and wanted, from the moment we handed in our coats on arrival, to the end when they were retrieved again. Johanna Ullrich, the owner, and her team worked hard to ensure that everything ran smoothly. Making service look effortless takes very hard work and great skill. We throughly and wholeheartedly recommend the Kronenschlösschen as somewhere to go for special occasions. You will be seriously impressed.

Had much higher expectations. We were given a room covered in nothing but red with an incredibly loud fan. Pretty fixtures and good breakfast (not worth the cost), you're better off going 20 minutes to Wiesbaden or elsewhere. Non-kitchen staff is generally unfriendly. And given the price, this was nowhere near worth it. Would have been better staying virtually anywhere else, and it's even rougher having come from an incredible hotel in Bayern.

This is a very charming hotel, we stayed here for 1 night in May 2025. The suite is on the 3rd floor with seating area and marbled bathroom. We love the small touches such as fruits in the room as well as sherry. The wonderful young man helped to carry our luggage to the room, as there's no elevator. Note that there's no AC as well although we didn't need it. Location is perfect to explore the Rheingau. The food at the restaurant is amazing as well.

I stayed only one night. Hotel is classy. Rooms are decorated nicely. This is a historic place. Breakfast was great too. Staff was very friendly. Location was great too. It s very close to the Rhein. In winter the value was great. Would come back again.

Stayed for 1 night to visit the Rhine. Hotel is charming but with modern (if small) rooms. The guesthouse accommodations include a fan to combat summertime heat. While a little cramped, the bed was fine and the bathroom all updated and clear, with a rain-style shower. There's not much in the village but Eltville is only 4KM away and is nice to wander through. Across the road is a wine bar and cafe overlooking the Rhine - that location alone makes this a very good hotel. Also, the service is excellent.

I have enjoyed my stay for sure. Rooms at Guesthouse have airco, rooms in main building don’t. Young man at reception welcomed us very pleasantly and immediately offered to help with our luggage. Breakfast is good and stuff brought some water and snacks for my dog every morning. Especially recommended is Bistro restaurant at the hotel.

We recently returned from two nights in a superior double room at the Hotel Kronenschlosschen. Having escaped from a really poor hotel elsewhere, this place felt like heaven, particularly as we sampled the food first. That lunch, on the terrace overlooking the glorious garden, convinced us that this was the hotel for us and luckily they had space. What they forgot to tell us was that they had two wedding receptions on the Saturday night and because of staff issues could not carry out ordinary restaurant service. However, wonderfully, we were able to eat from the menu of one of the weddings and outstandingly tasty and attractively presented that food was. We expected a lot of noise from the parties (as per an English wedding) but both were restrained events that allowed us to sleep peacefully.||Our room, 25 on the second floor, was charming, comfortable and most importantly and unlike our previous hotel, had a fan, making sleep possible. No A/C because of the age of the building, which was in itself a lovely feature, particularly the carved wooden staircase (no lift). My husband particularly enjoyed the 'Olympic quantity' of sherry supplied and re-filled in our room. All staff we encountered were friendly, helpful and charming, speaking excellent English. ||Apart from lack of air conditioning, the only other downside to this lovely hotel is the main road running alongside. We could hear the swish of traffic at night with windows open but it did not disturb us. We would definitely stay here again if in the area.

This is just an outstanding place, with many quirks but they add to the charme - it's a 19th century chateau right by the Rhine (not on the levee; nothing is, the Rhine can be fierce), and it is very much a boutique chateau hotel. The place is famous as a two-star Michelin restaurant, but we went Monday-Wednesday when it's closed (but you can still get wine on the terrace etc.), which meant much more quietude, and it was great.||Key for the experience was that we had the Tower Suite, their prime room, which has historical value - the German Constitution was discussed here shortly after WWII by the key party leaders. The bathroom is fine, the bedroom a bit low-ceilinged and dark, but the actual Tower Suite is great. It's a real space.||Some constructive criticism: It's a consciously non-hip historical property, but in 2023, I think a Nespresso machine or at least a kettle is a must. In this suite, there shouldn't be random books, but at least a copy of the Constitution and a picture of Adenauer, Heuss and Carlo Schmid. To have the jacuzzi not work and not tell this in advance is so-so. And for a 400+ suite, I would as usual throw the breakfast in...||But we really liked the wine selection (and the free carafe in the room); parking is great; and the staff was truly friendly and courteous. There is no elevator; the speed road goes right by between river and house (but that is the Hessian politicians' fault); and there is no pool or gym. But that one knows in advance and it's not a problem.||So altogether, a very strong recommendation, especially for that suite. It's a significant, truly charming, almost otherworldly place, and if you like this - and in one of the loveliest regions of Germany - it's just a fantastic place.
