Lacking in luxury. The hotel Kvarner relies on its stunning location to attract guests. The renovation of the outside of the hotel and beach front is beautiful. The white stone on the terrace makes it unbearable on a hot day, as so much heat is radiated back. Few guests sat on the terrace. At breakfast the terrace was swarmed by pigeons on the floor and tables scavenging for food. Breakfast in the small inner dining room was chaotic ( guests choosing to eat inside because of the pigeons). Not enough tables for guests. The two waitresss’ we’re doing their best to serve guests, but were overwhelmed by the volume of work for just the two of them.On the first evening we ate on the terrace, we asked for advice about the wine from the waiter, he said the local wines were all the same. It appeared that the staff were inexperienced and poorly trained.
When we took a shower the glass panel over the bath was too short, so leaked badly flooding the bathroom floor. We reported it to the young blonde receptionist, who was unhelpful. We reported it a second time, the maintenance team did put a rubber stopper which was too short, problem not solved. The manager did offer us an alternative room, but as it was smaller we declined. The blonde lady who cleaned the rooms was friendly, kind and generous. The room was cleaned to an exceptionally high standard. The local staff at recption were surly, unable to answer questions about events happening at Reto Opatija in the hotel or town. Overall the hotel is functional, but lacks touches of finesse which give it that feel of luxury. Enjoy the view, which is what the hotel offers!
