Inside the hotels of the Balearic Islands

"A fourteenth-century tower in Ibiza’s historic hilltop old town is home to Torre del Canónigo, a stunning, stylish boutique hotel. Rooms and suites are a dream, and a spacious dream at that, classic in aspect yet contemporary in comfort. And the fact that towers are literally built to provide astonishing views, makes the Canónigo experience a spectacularly panoramic one." - Guide MICHELIN

Hold The Fort: All Along The Watchtower Hotels

"An ancient watchtower in Ibiza’s historic hilltop old town is home to Torre del Canónigo, a stunning, stylish boutique hotel. The Dalt Vila district is one of the quietest parts of town, though still close to pretty much everything. That proximity, combined with the fact that towers are literally built to provide astonishing views, makes the Canónigo experience a spectacularly panoramic one." - Mark Fedeli

This is a lovely chic property right at the top of the walled old town. Many aspects fit with that of a luxury hotel, and the x3 buildings that make up the heritage property are stunning. The pool area is an oasis of calm with breathtaking views. The hotel product itself is spot on, with best quality linens, interesting objet d’art, and quality fixtures and fittings. Sadly, all that said, there were some really basic aspects that let this place down. Dirty in places, lack of attention in others, and generally zero attention to detail (which you would expect at circa €800pn) around the pool area. Not only did the furniture, tables, floors never get wiped down or washed, but when I mentioned this to the hotel, still nothing was done. Simply dirty - and would not consider getting in their lovely looking but dirty pool. It didn’t help that the path outside the pool area had drainage works going on, which meant that you walked through the kitchen to get there, which also meant that we could see just how clean (or not!) the back-of-house areas were - very unimpressive! Having said that, they can fix the cleanliness issues - if the GM get’s his act together - and lack of attention around the pool - so I would return.

Beautiful hotel, located at the top of the historic district of Ibiza. The room was very beautiful and super clean. The van service provided by the hotel is very convenient. The staff there is absolutely perfect, we had forgot something there and they were very helpful to get it back.

Everything about our stay was fantastic. Firstly the property sits above the old town - and has magical views everywhere and equally super quiet (important in late night Ibiza!). We stayed for 6 nights and our room (we went for a slightly larger room in the T building) had a beautiful view over the whole port and a big sized bathroom (towels super plush). |Second the breakfast room / terrace is amazing with views right over the port. The food was super fresh (eggs, salmon, avocados, delish fruit & yoghurt) and could not have asked for us (we had breakfast included). |Third the pool area is tranquil and so peaceful (after the night before). Sun for almost the whole day (a previous review said there wasn’t which seems odd) - although with some olive trees for those wanting shade. Great wagyu burgers (and cocktails!).|Fourth - location is about a 7-8 minute walk up steps from the old gates / old town - pretty easy really (even after a few drinks). Although they do provide a golf buggy shuttle through to mid night. Could not fault the location given the peace it provided. |Lastly the hotel is set in three-separate buildings - all old beautifully renovated - we stayed in the T building and it was a secret hide-way. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. Thank you - we will return.

Second visit to this beautiful hotel. Location is amazing within the old city walls. Views are incredible and the hotel is a picture postcard. Reception staff are amazing. They are on hand for anything you need. Arranging car hire, shuttle service, nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommend this hotel and hope to visit another time again. Thank you, Helen & Kenny x

Amazing hotel, staff are all so friendly. |Breakfast was delightful. We enjoyed the hotel complimentary shuttle service down to the town every evening. When we wished to return to the hotel the car collected us within minutes. The pool area and bar staff are excellent

This is a very unique and beautiful hotel, oozing with character and history. We have just returned from a long weekend here and feel utterly refreshed. The service provided was excellent, food was perfect and the setting is to die for. Other reviews mention the hill, which is true but it’s to be expected with the location. The hotel wouldn’t be considered accessible for people with reduced mobility, but in terms of getting out and about the hotel offers a shuttle service to and from the port daily between 8am-midnight. A quick WhatsApp message and they’ll be with you in under 10 minutes. You can’t ask for much more than this. Taxis were easy to use outside of these times. The room was immaculately cleaned, and the pool area was a perfect addition. A little oasis to escape the heat and the bustle of the town. I would highly recommend this hotel.

We had a short break in ibiza and wanted to stay in the old town. The hotel was great. the welcome was lovely from the front of house team and the room in one of three buildings was smart, clean and obviously recently renovated. The bed was huge, the views were spectacular and the setting for the pool superb. The only draw back is the march up the hill after a night out, but that was a small price to pay for such a fantastic spot. We will definitely be back

I loved this hotel, it’s very iconic as resides in a historic medieval tower castle at the top of the hill in old Ibiza town. It is a bit difficult to access - the taxis and Ubers will often try to drop you 7 min walk away, but if you insist most will drop you to the doorstep. You can always arrange a hotel car to pick you and drop you nearby in the city free of Charge which is great. The rooms are beautiful, unique design, slightly ethnic/ tribal motives , so are the common spaces. There are multiple buildings in the hotel so you might need a tour. The views are stunning and overlook the Ibiza town and port - you are pretty much in the highest point of the city. The pool is small but lovely and the tanning is great next to it. Staff is friendly and available for any requirements. Recommend for a unique and stylish stay in Ibiza town
