Open and Honest Review of Our Stay at Les Haras Strasbourg
I usually focus on positive reviews, but in this case I feel it’s important to share our experience openly.
We booked Les Haras because it is presented as one of the best hotels in Strasbourg. We were looking forward to a relaxing, pampering weekend with a beautiful spa and great facilities. Unfortunately, the stay didn’t fully meet those expectations.
Check-in & Arrival
The reception area is surprisingly small for a hotel of this size. When we arrived, it was crowded and somewhat chaotic. We received our keys but weren’t given clear directions. Only later did we learn that a bellboy was available to assist with luggage.
Our rooms were located not in the main building, but in the newer annex across the street. To reach it, you have to leave the property, cross the street, and enter a second building. The positive side: the spa and breakfast area are located in this newer building.
Spa Experience & Restrictions
This was our biggest disappointment. At check-in we were told that each room includes only one hour of spa access per day, booked in time slots. This was not visible in our Booking.com reservation.
Because we didn’t have time to visit the spa on the first day, we were allowed two hours on the second day — but even then, the spa was overcrowded. There is only one sauna, one steam room, one pool, and a single relaxation room. Most loungers in the relaxation room were taken or “reserved” with towels, even when empty. The overall atmosphere was not relaxing.
Restaurant Availability
We were never able to eat at the hotel restaurant because it was fully booked at all times. It seems that external guests or sheer capacity constraints mean hotel guests don’t have priority. We ended up eating outside, which was fine, but disappointing given the hotel’s reputation.
Layout Issues
After leaving the spa, I accidentally ended up in the main building and had to walk through the street in my bathrobe to get back to the annex where our rooms were located. It makes for a funny story afterwards, but in the moment it was far from ideal.
What Was Genuinely Great
Breakfast was excellent — good quality, good variety , and well organised.
The staff throughout the hotel were truly lovely: friendly, attentive, and warm, from breakfast staff to housekeeping.
The rooms were clean, modern, quiet, and nicely designed. Our shower was a bit unusual, but overall the room setup was comfortable.
Overall
Les Haras has real strengths — great breakfast, very kind staff, clean and modern rooms — but the overall guest experience didn’t align with the price or the hotel’s reputation. The limited and crowded spa access, the small and hectic reception area, and the building layout all reduced the feeling of ease and relaxation we were hoping for.
