Hotel Les Mars

"Usually it’s hotel guests who fill an on-site restaurant, but in the case of Les Mars, in the tiny Sonoma Valley town of Healdsburg, the 60-seat eatery Cyrus may be the point of entry. Diners checking in to one of the 16 guest rooms—all with a gas fireplace and a whirlpool—will find refreshingly unstuffy service and attention to detail. Les Mars embodies what’s possible when money is no object, from an average of 500 square feet per guest room, to 20-foot vaulted ceilings, to chocolate truffles and white roses at turndown, to top-of-the-line staff and consultants—including chef Douglas Keane (formerly of San Francisco’s Restaurant Gary Danko), and Ann Getty’s interior designer."

Wow, where do we begin… Ameer made our trip! His food recommendations were spot on, and he always made us feel welcome and went above and beyond to exceed our expectations. If you want to truly relax in the lap of luxury, this is the place to stay. Valet service, winery tasting booking, dinner reservations, and coffee and champagne on hand. The room was spectacular and the housekeepers do a fantastic job, we’ll definitely be back.

The hotel has a charming atmosphere, and every staff member we encountered was friendly and accommodating. Our room was beautifully appointed, with comfortable bedding and pillows that made for a restful stay. The lighting and fireplace created a warm, romantic ambiance, and the location was perfect—within walking distance of shops and restaurants.

This hotel is so quiet and elegant. Centrally located in Healdsburg, dining and shopping opportunities are plentiful.|The room we stayed in had a vaulted ceiling, 4 poster bed with the most comfortable mattress, linens and pillows. The room also had a fireplace with 2 chairs and a table facing the fireplace. It was a lovely setting for the in-room breakfast service, or sharing a bottle of wine after a day of touring Sonoma County. Will definitely stay here again.

Very elegant, classy hotel with beautiful architecture and well designed rooms. The front desk staff at the hotel provided excellent service by being friendly and helpful. Housekeepers were very attentive and nice. |We are planning to return soon.

Our stay was incredible. This was our second year in a row at Hotel Le Mars for business in the area. We will never stay at another hotel for work in Wine country. Amir and Roxanna constantly went above and beyond while playing every role there was to hold at the hotel as we were the only two rooms booked at that time. Everything was absolutely perfect and they didn't miss a beat. The rooms are glorious, including the decor, furniture and bedding! The breakfast was divine and the newly renovated bar and restaurant are a must. We will return.

A really first class hotel - excellent and attentive service, large and very quiet (and dark, at night!) room, convenient in-town location. The staff readily took care of any requests of ours. Very nice breakfast brought to our room each morning. Comfortable bed and pillows. Tasteful decor throughout. We stopped in the bar one happy hour - great margaritas and a fun vibe. Highly recommend Hotel Les Mars!

Google
An exceptional property in a perfect location. We could not have been more pleased with our 4-night stay. The staff was great, as was the breakfast delivered daily to our room. Just wonderful. Our room was large and extremely luxurious. The bed, pillows and linens were all exceptional. We found the entire property to be just elegant and very inviting. We walked everywhere, as it’s surrounded by the best restaurants, shopping and the town square. If you’re looking for a Hallmark movie setting, the hotel and surrounding area is pretty much it.

From the moment we arrived at Hotel Les Mars, we were greeted with a warm welcome and a glass of sparkling wine at the front desk. The property itself is simply stunning, nestled in the heart of Healdsburg and exuding charm with its elegant architecture and meticulous attention to detail. We felt like we were in a French chateau! Our room was a haven of comfort and elegance. The bed was divine, enveloped in luxurious linens that ensured a restful night's sleep. We were pampered with high-end lotions, shampoos, and conditioners, and the plush robes added a touch of indulgence. And who could resist the warm, freshly baked cookie that awaited us? Maria went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable and had everything we needed. She brought us extra towels, lotion, and anything else we requested. Her genuine warmth and attentiveness made us feel like cherished guests. If you're seeking a luxurious escape in the heart of Sonoma Wine Country, look no further than Hotel Les Mars. It's an experience you won't soon forget. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Just an exceptional stay at this beautiful property. The room was very large and luxurious. Bed, pillows and linens were top notch, as was the air conditioning. The breakfast every morning was fantastic. Eggs, bacon, sourdough baguette, incredible diced fresh fruit, orange juice and coffee. We simply chose the time it was to be delivered and it was exactly on time every day. We stayed for 4 nights and can't wait to return.

Yelp
This unique, quaint, comfortable boutique hotel provides beautiful rooms and top-notch customer service. We were greeted with a flute of sparkling Rosè upon arrival, which did not disappoint. The staff was nice and super courteous. The place is quiet only has about 15 rooms, and is centrally located within the heartbeat of Healdsburg. walking distance to all the nice tasting rooms and dinning. I look forward to coming back and enjoying another stay.

Yelp
FANTASTIC up scale boutique hotel right in the middle of Healdsburg CA and Sonoma wine country. The hotel is definitely french inspired and beautifully done. I gave it 1 lacking star because they lacked in hotel info at check in and an issue in the hotel room. The rooms are very warm in the summer and no screens on the windows. There was only 1 wineglass in the room not even 2. If i can afford it I would definitely go back! We had a great time!

Yelp
TLDR: You will not get the guest experience you should expect for ~$700 a night. All The Details: We stayed here for the first time about 2 years ago and couldn't wait to come back for another visit. We were greeted with champagne, enjoyed recommendations from Guest Services about local restaurants, and overall had a wonderful experience during our stay. This memory was what led us to select Hotel Le Mars for our wedding night. We remember it being a romantic and classic hotel that would certainly be able to deliver an exceptional experience for such a special occasion. To say we are disappointed would be putting it lightly. Our experience with guest services / the front desk was terrible and the main reason we will stay elsewhere in the future. Between the patronizing attitude over everything from asking about the possibility of an early check-in, to where we can find overnight parking nearby, to charging us shipping fees for luggage items that were left in their storage area and never brought to our room- I am really surprised at the way we were treated. If you choose Hotel Le Mars, I would hate for you to feel dumb for asking about where you should park or if you can check in early so I will answer these questions for you. No need to worry about overnight parking! The hotel offers free valet. While we were not able to secure an early check-in for our stay, turn-over service begins around 11:30 a.m. so my guess is that you may be able to get into your room as early as noon depending on who you speak to about this request. Some other hotels in the area we'd recommend instead are: Harmon Guest House and The Hotel Healdsburg.

Jon R.

Yelp
Probably the most comfortably elegant hotel we've ever stayed in with service to match. The room was large and exceptionally appointed with appreciated amenities. The breakfast was very good and just what we needed to start the day (including scrambled eggs, bacon, fresh fruit and freshly baked bread). When we were ready to checkout, our car was waiting in front of the hotel, just another example of the excellent service we received. The location is perfect, just a few steps off of Healdsburg's main square. We plan to stay there whenever we return to Healdsburg.

Yelp
Nothing but the best service, relaxing environment, clean luxurious rooms, close to wineries, 5 star restaurants, Healdsburg Plaza, and much more.

Yelp
We were deterred unfortunately last week because of a fire (Small fire) from Les Mere downtown Healdsburg. We were fortune enough to find a hotel in the same destination, for a few hundred dollars more on the mane street. Great! At $900 plus. Had a wonderful meal as the past three times at Baci Cafe wine and bar! Casual... 4 plus star! Returning to Healdsburg Hotel for an aperitif.... Was Interesting. Small bar...nice jazz band, fire place, great for gathering. Being in the small restaurant sushi business and independent contractor as a owner of a high end salon for 23 yrs.

Yelp
This is the best hotel if you are looking for a luxurious hotel in Healdsburg. If you are coming to visit wineries I highly recommend a 2 night stay here they can suggest tasting rooms around town of you tell them what you like. And Healdsburg has tasting rooms for almost all the wineries in the area literally 4 or more per block. Stay at les Mars spend the day walking around town then let the front desk know which ones you liked and they will set up all the tastings for the going put to the wineries and vineyards this way you won't waste time at places you don't like or don't want to purchase from and you will have a better time finding things you do like. No better place to go if you are visiting the Sonoma Valley vineyards. They will take good care of all your needs and always go above and beyond. I only spent 1 night for our anniversary and we had to head back early as we have a teething toddler who gave Grammy a hard time. They just remodeled and the rooms look amazing!

Yelp
Husband and i stayed here for a weekend and we loved the experience. The 3rd floor room was super indulgent with beautiful views. We loved walking around Healdsburg, enjoyed eating at Chalkboard, and loved the tea/coffee options in the room. Due to covid, the breakfast served was cold and packaged but it was filling . The bath was super luxurious , and I loved the canopy bed and the bottle of wine in the room. The reception staff was very friendly everytime we walked by. Would go back in an instant.

Yelp
Wow. What a great experience. Right in the heart of Healdsburg .. this place is perfectly located. It's part of the Relais&châteaux group so you can expect a fine hotel. And they didn't disappoint. Great service, a beautifully appointed room (room 205) and a nice breakfast. Would definitely stay here again in the future. It's not cheap ($700/night) but if you are ok with spending that kind of money this is the place to do that.

Yelp
While the Hotel les Mars is elegantly designed, well-appointed and nicely situated, it is not of the caliber of other inns and small hotels on the Relais & Chateau registry. Perhaps it was the time of year, shortly after Christmas, but it was too thinly staffed, so much so that I often found no one at the front desk. At times, it was only one person who was unable to both attend to the front desk and provide valet services. The staff was pleasant but the owner was nowhere in sight (which may have explained the spotty coverage). There was often a very bad smell in my bathroom, as if a sewer had backed up and it was so pronounced at times that I had to keep the bathroom door closed to keep the smell from permeating the room. The smell was so strong that it could not not be missed upon entry to the room, certainly not by the person cleaning the room but nothing was said or offered to remedy the situation. The breakfast was the same each day for the five days I was there. The food was fine but nothing remarkable. While breakfast was listed as complimentary, the pastries (the best part of the breakfast) were extra as was the coffee and tea. The latte I ordered the first morning came at room temperature. I was asked to fill out an online form before I arrived but when I arrived, it was as if no one knew who I was or what I had asked for. In my experience with other inns on the Relais & Chateau registry, there were far more personal touches and periodic check-ins to make sure the accommodations were up to expectation. The food was also more varied, creative and of higher caliber in general. I came away disappointed and wondering why a so-so hotel is listed on Relais & Chateau when I have stayed at nicer and less expensive ones in California that were not.

Yelp
Amazing hotel, has a guest library, jet tubs, comfy beds, the works... the staff, Hattie and Heaji are incredible, would definitely recommend checking this place out. In an ideal location walking distance to many great restaurants, tasting rooms, art galleries, bars. Also check out the chalkboard restaurant in the hotel

Yelp
The new manager Demetri and the entire staff were awesome, welcoming and provided an impeccable service. The Hotel Les Mars is a Luxurious and very comfortable establishment worthy of a refined European hotel and of the Relais & Chateaux affiliation. It's location in Healdsburg is perfect as it is located just a block from the downtown plaza and within walking distance of restaurants, stores and local events. Parking is street only and may be little difficult on weekend but is not problematic. We will definitely return and do recommend this establishment.

Yelp
One of the best hotel experiences I've had. It is quaint and luxurious, and right in the heart of Healdsburg. Gorgeous entry, attentive and helpful staff. Took my wife here for our baby moon and it was just perfect and classy. The bathtub was huge and their beds.... best sleep of my life. I truly need one of those beds in every single room I enter. Breakfast could only be enjoyed in your room, but with those beds, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Everything was perfection, which was to be expected from a Relais & Chateaux property.

Paul L.

Yelp
All staff is friendly and accommodating; excellent location, nice room, and quiet surroundings, but it doesn't have a designed parking space, and the Continental breakfast is not our favorite.

Yelp
Hotel les Mars has gone above and beyond making our stay special. There were rose petals on our bed and around the bath. Wine, champagne, and chocolate covered strawberries. The hotel room is beautiful. Concierge was able to get us a reservation at spoon bar. Which was lucky, because we arrived just as everything was shutting down due to covid. I can't wait to come back and stay here!

Yelp
Perfect European style hotel experience in Healdsburg- will definitely be going back.

Yelp
A pristine level of customer service from all the staff--we had so much empathy for them because when we checked in on a Thurs afternoon, they were deluged with problems: water heater broke, flooding in a room ... behind the scenes chaos, but from the professional and efficient way they were operating, nobody would guess that they were having difficulties--they made our experience seamless as guests. Super world class service, so gracious and helpful: I forgot my Kindle charger and were having difficulty locating a shop where they sell it. We asked the concierge, Dimitri--he told us he'd make some inquiries and call us. Twenty minutes later, there as knock on our door and to my shock--voila! He appears with a Belkin charger (which we insisted he charge to our room), he went to a local cupcake shop and presented us with two cupcakes: a vanilla and chocolate! Earlier they'd come with mimosas for our anniversary, but because we don't drink, they brought these instead! The lady behind the front desk, Hattie, was lovely to interact with and helpful in recommending a place we might try for lunch. She was dealing with a lot on that day of check-in but managed to be welcoming and sweet. Our room was on the third floor, where the rooms have exposed beam vaulted high ceilings and four poster beds, a sunken jacuzzi soaking tub with separate glass shower, all done in a high end white/grey marble--gorgeous. This little boutique hotel in a small town--so many thoughtful little touches, e.g. a wrapped box with complementary masks and gloves, a NESPRESSO machine with complementary assorted coffees, a tea kettle with different high end teas, an ala carte breakfast menu and though we didn't avail of it, we were glad to know we had the option. It's incredibly difficult to operate a business of any sort, especially one of hospitality and/or food, and during this time of the COVID pandemic, they're having to cut out many of their usual services, e.g. their on site restaurant and daily cleaning services (which we opted to not get) ... I imagine that if they were operating under usual circumstances, we would have had an even more stellar experience (though it's hard to imagine what that would've entailed :-) These people are wonderful and we loved our stay here--our customer experience was everything great--thank-you thank-you for all your kindness and generosity :-)!

Yelp
When I told friends we were off to Healdsburg for a long weekend the usual question was: "oh, so where are you staying?" When I'd advise "the Les Mars Hotel, it's affiliated with Relais & Chateaux". "Relay and who?" was the usual response. I cannot speak more highly of this collection of fine, small hotels. Started in France in the 1950s and located primarily in Europe, they can now be found scattered around the globe. To keep the Relais & Chateaux affiliation, each hotel must maintain a strict minimum of standards. As I understand, these standards are difficult to obtain and the hotels must continue to provide service standards above and beyond to avoid losing the affiliation. We have stayed previously in several of their properties in Europe and found them to be no less than excellent and this long weekend's visit to 'Les Mars' was certainly no exception. Upon entering the room (we chose a 'Mansion' category) everything lived up to our expectations. Beautifully and expertly furnished with a canopy bed, fireplace and marble bathroom with a large Jacuzzi tub (found in most rooms), along with Bulgari toiletries. Also a wonderful touch was a couple of vases full of roses (these are grown locally by the owners of the property) and provided an even more 'personal touch' which only adds to the ambiance of Relais & Chateaux. We had reception show us some other rooms (we're already planning ahead for a future visit!). All rooms have fireplaces. The more expensive rooms can be found on the 3rd (top) floor and they all have soaring vaulted ceilings - stunning (and a bit pricier). Further perks included are complimentary valet parking and a wine and cheese social in the early evening held in the library off the lobby. Each morning we were served a delightful and filling continental breakfast in our room - also complimentary. Another plus is this hotel is located adjacent to 'Cyrus', known as one of the best restaurants in Northern California. You can enter Cyrus through the hotel lobby. It takes a great deal to impress me these days and Les Mars did not disappoint - - no doubt a rare Wine Country gem.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. One of the cutest and most romantic hotels I have ever stayed at. The service is truly exemplary. Rooms come with a complimentary bottle of wine. Breakfast in bed is such an awesome option.

Yelp
100% pure class. One of the best hotel experiences of my hotel-staying life. If you're looking for an exquisite boutique hotel to take in Healdsburg, then Hotel Les Mars is the place. There's everything good to say about this charming hotel, that I don't even know where to start. First, the General Manager, Brain, is a GEM. I must admit that I was struck by Hotel Les Mars' charm. It feels nothing like a hotel. Actually, feels more like a luxurious residence where your every need will be catered to. And speaking of needs, let's just start with the rooms, shall we? There are limited number of rooms (I forget the number, but I believe it's less than 20. You'll have to check the website). That's a good thing, trust me. It's a quiet, quaint kind of hotel. No busy-bees walking through the halls, no noise, no annoyances. Once you enter your room (well, maybe it depends on the type of room), the amenities are amazing. A Europen-style room with modern amenities, including a super cush bed, room service, a fireplace, mini-bar, iPhone dock, a bathroom with a jacuzi bathtub, a desk. Did I mention that the flatscreen TV rises from the armor, via remote-control? I mean, what a cool touch to such a classical-style room. Oh, and I also didn't mention that inside the bathtub, you'll find aromatherapy salts to enhance your experience. They do work, so try them ALL! One of my favorite experiences was to order the standard breakfast, then set it up next to the bathtub with some jet action going. Now onto the hotel...SERVICE is impeccable. The hotel staff will remember your name as soon as you walk in. If you need ANYTHING, really, they will help you out. My group was greeted with a glass of champagne. Need restaurant recommendations? Ask the front desk. If you are in need of anything in your room, they are there in a zip. I mean, this is what service is made of, and OTHER HOTELS MUST TAKE A CUE. And I almost forgot to mention the library. Worth spending some time for sure. A proper library with an incredible selection of vintage classics in a gorgeous European setting. Grab a glass of wine, sit down and explore. Yes, all of this will cost you a pretty penny. But hey, being spoiled is priceless.

Yelp
When I picked Hotel Les Mars for my mini birthday weekend getaway, my partner was surprised. He knows me to love modern, contemporary hotels and to prefer Napa side. However, within hours we wore both in love with this charming Healdsburg property. The hotel makes it easy and seamless for guests to check in quickly and be on there way to a comfy and carefree evening. Our valet took care of our vehicle and the front desk person showed us to our luxe room and showed us how to order our breakfast for the room in the morning. We said our farewells, got settled on, then went down to dine at Chalkboard downstairs. In the early evening, the hotel has a mini reception for guests to sip and graze on wine and cheese. We didn't stop for long since we didn't want to spoil our dinner. After dinner when we returned for the evening, we had delicious chocolates and scrumptious cupcakes waiting for us. Did I mention the amazing location? Just a block or two over leads you to dozens of adorable boutiques, tasting rooms, delicious restaurants, and a cute little town square park. Can't wait to stay here again and feel like a princess in a four poster bed with a lovely canopy :)

Yelp
Having the good fortune to stay at multiple Relais facilities over the years, we thought we would give the local Relais of Hotel Les Mars a try with some gift certificates we had from Relais & Chateaux. We had a lovely room for two nights (very lovely), and it was up to the standards of excellence demanded by the Relais & Chateaux name. The staff was exemplary, the surroundings lovely, and we look forward to a visit in the future.

Yelp
I would have given them 5stars except for a single glaring flaw . This is a comfortable ,high quality hotel in a good central location The staff is very nice & very efficient. So what's my problem: The hotel is expensive (&worth it) but the included continental breakfast is almost comical in its spareness. Mine had a small bowl of yogurt with 4 blueberries & the smallest croissant I have ever seen . Besides coffee, that's it! We are a party of 5 couples & all 5 agreed it was inadequate for a hotel of quality. Breakfast is ONLY serves in your room. Any "extras" you might want are quite expensive. They could & should easily do better in this area. So, in conclusion, stay here , but don't stay for an satisfying breakfast. Alan

Yelp
Hotel Les Mars (HLS) is the very epitome of superb hotel accommodation. We thoroughly enjoyed our four night stay in early August. A small hotel of perhaps a dozen rooms, our room was as nicely appointed as anything in the five star range, including the Ritz and Four Season...and perhaps more so. No expense is spared in making you comfortable. Cleanliness and decor are impeccable; you will be showered with offers of free water bottles as you come and go; quick and free valet parking out front; and the wine and cheese offering, also included, is a very nice touch before you head out for dinner. The manager Ramon was extremely helpful in giving us ideas and pointers for wine country, including booking several adventures that included a horseback ride through Chalk Hill and a hike through Armstrong Park to enjoy the redwoods. If you enjoy small hotels and inns, HLS is the pinnacle of these. Consequently, it is expensive, and you will be paying over $400/night. Also, Cyrus, the restaurant in the hotel, was closing up to be replaced by another operation. Finally, they are building a new farmer's market next door which probably won't be completed for a few more months. Construction didn't bother us one bit, as work was done after 9AM. If you want to do Sonoma high end for that special occasion, this is it.

Yelp
My bf and I came here to celebrate our anniversary and talk about a romantic getaway. When we walked into our room, they had a hand written card welcoming us and had a complimentary bottle of wine chilled for us. I loved every aspect of this hotel. The staff were extremely nice and charming and catered to everything we wanted/ needed. They would offer us Voss water when we walked pass them in the lobby and gave us great pointers where to go in terms of wine tasting. They also suggested H2 Hotel for a great place with night life. When my bf and I came back to our room after dinner at Cyrus, we had our bed turned down and had a lovely box of chocolates sitting on our bed with slippers waiting for us. And in the morning we had complimentary pastries, fresh fruit, Greek yogurt delivered to our room from the Costeaux French Bakery that was next door. We also had a variety of movies to choose from in their library and also called up to our room to make sure we joined in on their intimate setting for wine tasting from a local winery called Jessup. Lovely wines and cheeses were provided by jessup and the rep they sent was very lovely and really sweet and was very knowledgeable in the wines she presented us and enriched our knowledge about wines. My overall experience was stupendous. No wonder they are part of the Relais & Chateaux. I've stayed at some of the greatest hotels around the world like the Intercontinental and Fairmont in Dubai and Les Mars services can be comparatively just as nice and that says a lot.

Yelp
We stayed at the Hotel Les Mars as part of a two-night Groupon special after Christmas. Overall, we had an excellent experience. The Mansion King bedroom was fairly large, with a very comfy king-sized canopy bed, a table and two chairs next to the window, a writing desk against one wall, and a fireplace opposite the bed. Likewise, the bathroom was plenty roomy, with a good-sized shower, a jetted tub (which we didn't use), and a separate water closet (including a bidet). Also, the windows actually opened, which would be a big plus when the weather is nice. The service was friendly and helpful. In addition to the free valet parking, perks included the chocolates on the pillow when we arrived, slippers next to the bed (along with fluffy robes in the bathroom), and a complementary half-bottle of wine. On both nights we took part in the 6-7 pm wine tasting, which is accompanied by three types of cheeses. The first night's tasting featured two wines poured by a knowledgeable hotel employee. The second night had the owner of Portalupi Wine (Tim) pouring several of his wines, and telling stories about the wine business and the history of Healdsburg. Very enjoyable, and good wine too; we ended up buying a couple of Portalupi wines the next day. The complementary in-room breakfast was good, if not terribly exciting (you can have any or all of: granola, plain yogurt w/ honey, fresh fruit, crescents/muffins (which vary somewhat from day to day), coffee and juice. The only negatives were fairly minor. The bedroom was a bit worn looking in places, notably the breakfast table, and the carpet around it (which clearly had a few coffee stains). One set of slippers and our extra pillows were removed by the cleaning staff, so we had to ask for replacements. They also removed the water pitcher and glasses for some reason. Some of this might have been remedied by the standard turn down service, but they apparently skipped us because we had in-room massages before dinner. There was also no mini-fridge in the room, which would have been handy. Finally, it's worth noting that the regular room rates are usually $600 a night and up; about double what we paid. With all that in mind, I can't quite justify a five star rating. However, our stay at Hotel Les Mars was still wonderful, and we'd certainly consider coming back if another discount becomes available.

Yelp
I am extremely disappointed in this hotel. I booked a night here and the very next day I cancelled it. I booked the hotel five weeks in advance and they charged me $57 for canceling! When I called to ask about the difference on my statement, I was told that no matter when you cancel, there is a cancellation fee. I have never had a hotel charge me for cancelling so far in advance. I will never stay here, which is a shame because my husband and I are always in the area. I hope the $57 they charged me was worth it...

Yelp
Les Mars defines luxury for those who truly appreciate it. As I've grown older my definition of luxury hotels has evolved. A glitzy suite in Vegas may certainly be opulent (especially if it comes with Petite Lap Giraffes), but is rarely luxurious. A 5-star chain hotel is comfortably consistent - your expectations will almost always be met, but rarely exceeded in a meaningful way. Les Mars, however, possesses both old-world splendor and service that is consistent in exceeding expectations. When we drove to Les Mars from San Francisco for our anniversary celebration in August we missed the hotel at first. The building is rather unassuming, even though it also houses Healdsburg's culinary gem - Cyrus. After confirming that we were indeed at the right place I parked and gave my keys to the man who came out to greet me. After assuring he'd take great care of my car he introduced himself - as Ramon, the hotel's general manager. We got to know Ramon and his staff very well over our short stay. Whether describing the stellar complimentary wine and cheese selections for the night, talking about the "gentle bees" they keep (never mind the 30 sting marks!) or regaling us with a joke every person working at Les Mars was a pleasure to be around. Make a genuine effort to get to know the people here and they will more than return the favor. Indeed, the staff got to know us too. This was exemplified when, after coming back to the room on our last night, we found a dish from our favorite Healdsburg restaurant (Willi's Seafood) and our favorite farmer's market fruits laid out for us! Seeing our newfound friends again is certainly reason enough to come back to Les Mars. That being said, the rooms, especially the beds, would pull me back too. In fact, it was near impossible getting out of them every morning. A lot of places will claim you'll be sleeping on a cloud when staying with them. Les Mars actually does it. No joke, no hyperbole. I would be genuinely worried about having a bed this comfortable and plush at our house. I would never make it to work. Then we wouldn't be able to afford to come back to Les Mars, and that's one luxury we can't deny ourselves for long!

Yelp
BEST HOTEL BED EVER! If you fall and can't get up, make sure it is in this bed here at the hotel. I looked forward to going to bed and taking a nap everyday while here in Healdsburg. Luxury is defined by the Les Mars. Anything you can think of is taken care of within an instant by the more than willing to help staff. Ramon and his staff are TOP NOTCH. They helped plan our day of tastings and everything went off without a hitch. The decor is total French Country, but the experience is purely delightful even for a guy who likes refinement in a more modern setting. It's worth every penny! I will truly remember this experience for a lifetime.

Yelp
Okay, the hotel is beautiful. I love the boutique feel and they make sure to tell you all about the antiques and how your room is unique. It's very small and intimate and I like that. They charge a $25 service fee which I appreciate because it's so you don't tip everyone while you are there. Love that, it makes things so easy. The bed was comfy and I love the Bvlgari bath products. I also loved that when we called for the man to come get our luggage to check out, they already had our car right in front without us even asking. The man at the front desk was waiting for us also and referred to us by name. I liked the personal touches, but its sort of expected when they only have 16 rooms. What I didn't like: the people at the front desk got really snappy with us when we told them we hadn't made a reservation for dinner and would like to eat at Scopa. It was 8pm on a Thursday. They both practically scoffed in our faces. Jeez. We didn't think it would be a big deal. The man that showed us around seemed to be pretty new also, and kept stumbling on his words and his sentences sometimes wouldn't make sense. So he would have to backtrack and repeat. Like he started off telling us about our room by saying, "There's a 500 dollar charge per night..." He stopped. We were like, what?! He was like, "Oh I mean. Right, so there's a 500 dollar fee per night if we detect smoking in the room. Maybe I should have started with that?" Um, yeah maybe. The breakfast was honestly just meh. I liked that it was included with the room, but there was no selection about it. I wanted fat free greek yogurt, that wasn't an option. Instead they gave us two full fat yogurts with fat free milk. Um. What? The fresh berries were great but I would have liked a choice of toast over the pastries as well. Even if it is included, they could still give people a little more choice than the only choice being you get it or you don't, and orange or grapefruit juice. We liked our experience here honestly, but we both would rather stay at Bardessono, Auberge du Soleil, or Solage than come back a second time.

Yelp
"Perfection" would best describe this hotel. Everything from the very first entrance to the end of our stay was such an experience (in a good way). Ramon and his staff are very accommodating, friendly, unpretentious, informative, and simply very nice to talk to. We had a bug in our room but the staff was very quick in getting rid of it as part of the evening turn-down service. In addition to the top notch service, this hotel doesn't skimp on anything, including overflowing of VOSS water bottles, BVLGARI toiletries, belgian chocolate, cheese, and wine. The only cons are probably the carb-heavy breakfast and shared amenities (spas, fitness center, and restaurant) - although we really didn't miss any of those because it is located in the center of downtown Healdsburg and you can pretty much find everything there. And who would want to work out on a treadmill if you have such a wonderful room to chill at??!

Yelp
Le Mars is a big wow from start to finish. Being greeted and shown a sumptuous room with a nice bottle of wine and fireplace. Staff is as good as you would expect from the best 5 stars I have stayed. Concierge service from Nicole is spot on, making reservations and getting you into had to book places, restaurants, private wine tours, etc. Nicole is pure angel. Breakfast is delivered to your room and each night there is wine tasting. I have to agree with all reviews on the beds, amazing comfort. I just wonder how many children were conceived here. More than a handful I'm sure. Well worth the money and an excellent value all around.

Yelp
Victorian style. Awesome service. We actually moved from Hotel Healdsburg over to Les Mars on the second night of our stay in town, and found Les Mars to be WAY nicer, and we were shocked that they were basically the same price. They don't have an in-hotel spa, but you can do in-room treatments, and everything is so close anyway that it doesn't really matter. Highly recommended :)

Yelp
Perfect honeymoon! We looked at some similarly priced hotels in SF, but went with Hotel Le Mars for the romantic vibe. We were not disappointed! If you want romance, this is your spot. Are the electric candles a little cheesy? Sure, but romance is meant to be cheesy. The service was excellent. They even ran out to buy me a comb when I forgot mine. Breakfast was great too!

Yelp
This place is beautiful and sort of like a mini version of the Hotel de Crillon in Paris. The service is so attentive but the only thing is it is such a small hotel that the staff is not that abundant. The security is so great that after a certain hour in the evening, you will need your room key to gain access back to the hotel. Their bed is sooo comfy!! Didn't want to get out of bed!!! They also have a really good breakfast in the morning and instead of tea time, they have cheese time in the afternoon! hehe! The only thing is their rooms are quite expensive but definitely well worth it to spoil yourself for a nite!

Yelp
I have stayed at this property numerous times since 2008 - finally decided to post a review. Yes, it is a smaller (more B&B) Relais & Chateaux property, but I have never had a sub par experience. They also provide a warm welcome for my two goldens. I am enjoying another pleasant stay as I write this.....

Yelp
This is absolutely one of the best luxury hotels out there. I never give five stars but the room, staff and first class experience is beyond words. We were greeted by Hana who was amazing and took care of us from the second we arrived until the minute we left. She poured us two glasses of campaign upon arrival, searched and booked us first class experiences during our stay as well as booked us hard to get fine dining reservations and was there at every turn. Even the GM was there for us and made us feel at home when we ran into him in town. You won't be disappointed with this spot...their restaurant is amazing as well and brings farm to table a new standard.

Yelp
I had an opportunity to stay at the Hotel Les Mars for two nights on my last visit to Healdsburg. And now I have been completely spoiled rotten so that no other hotel will do the next time I'm visiting in Healdsburg! The General Manager, Brian, was friendly, accessible and very professional. The entire staff that I encountered during my stay were the same! The hotel, though fairly new, has an "old world" feel and charm to it. Located just off the Plaza, you can walk to just about everything in town. The room I was in was quite large with vaulted ceilings and two french doors that opened to a gorgeous tree top view. The room was beautifully furnished and the attention to detail was evident everywhere! I particularly loved my own ribbon tied box of delicious chocolates that were left on my canopied bed each night after the turn down service. One night we had dinner at the restaurant next door, Chalkboard. All small plates here; and one after another, each offering was over the top DEEE-licious! Can't wait to visit Healdsburg again!

Yelp
Evertyhing about the experience was quiet simply amazing. Meets expectations on all levels. The staff is 5 star & you can tell that a lot of time & thought go into every aspect of hotel management. If you feel like pampering yourself - this is the place. The rooms and bathrooms are just what you would want. Loved it!

Yelp
Hotel Les Mars saved our anniversary! Thank you so much to Katrice at the front desk and all the other wonderful staff members who pampered us and indeed 'rescued' our weekend from the really unfortunate first hotel we had booked ourselves in (America's Best Value Inn, also in Healdsburg). Trust me, if it's your anniversary, your birthday, or just a well-deserved getaway, give yourself the gift of a night or two at Hotel Les Mars. The rooms are exquisite (ours had a fireplace, jacuzzi tub, vaulted ceilings, plush linens etc) and the food downstairs at ChalkBoard Restaurant is fantastic. Free gourmet continental breakfast delivered to your room in the morning, free wine and artisan cheese each night in the lobby, what more could one ask for!? Thank you to all, we looooved it!

Yelp
In the middle of the little town of Healdsburg. It bustles downstairs in the beautiful lobby, with boutique vintners offering tastings during the evening. It was luxurious, peaceful and comfortable. Fireplaces and great in room breakfast, well worth the price, for world class, romantic accommodations, less than 2hrs from San Francisco!

Yelp
Wine country:) This is a quaint Relais & chateau hotel. Our room was amazing. You feel like you are inside a European hoel There restaurant was not open so we walked up the steet to Willis Raw Bar so we were happy their restaurant was closed. We had a mansion king room with a jaccuzi and fireplace. Wine was provided by the hotel and the morning Europea breakfast was just the right touch. We will be regulars at this hotel when in Healdsburg. Ususally Relais & Chateau hotels are owned by chefs so you get that bed and breakfast feel with that gourmet food. Not having the restaurant left me with half the experience. The restaurant is suppose to open in April so I will plan on being back after that where I hope to be able to give 5 starts

Yelp
Talk about unsurpassed service and luxury! The friendly and gracious staff cater to the guests every whim. This charming hotel is quaint and beautiful. The rooms - exquisite - with fireplaces and spacious, marble bathrooms. Complimentary pastries, fresh fruit and Greek yogurt are delivered to your room in the morning. The library provides an intimate venue for a local wine and cheese happy hour each evening. And every time you walk past the front desk, they offer bottles of chilled Voss water to keep you hydrated. (A "must" in wine country.) Be aware, however, that if room service, mini bars and pay-per-view are your thing, they have none.

Yelp
The hotel was really charming. Excellent for a romantic getaway. The beds were comfy, the room was big, the staff were helpful and friendly. Great attention to detail in general. The owner also has a winery where you can get a tour on horseback which is fun.

Yelp
This hotel is absolutely amazing. I feel like I'm staying in a room part of a French Mansion. Staff is authentic and really wants you to have a good. Everything here is luxurious and of highest quality. I cannot wait to return and I'm not even finished with my current stay. The bed is extraordinary and I am going to inquire about purchasing their sheets!

Yelp
My wife and I always enjoy Relais and Chateau properties so when we decided to visit wine country we chose Healdsburg and Hotel Les Mars. We were not disappointed. Our visit to Sonoma was to break up our return to Dallas from a month in Hawaii. We asked the hotel staff to suggest an itinerary and set reservations. They did and everything was first class. Hotel Les Mars arranged for a car to pick us up at the airport and take us to numerous vineyards for tastings. The hotel also arranged meal reservations every night of our stay. All their suggestions and arrangements were excellent. Our 4 night stay in Hotel Les Mars was a wonderful way to breakup a long trip home to Texas.

Yelp
A fabulous hotel. They truly treat you like royalty. From the fancy box of chocolates on the bed, to the complimentary glasses of champagne and bottle of wine, to the complimentary breakfast, to the complimentary valet--they move your car every 3 hours--to the friendly efficient staff, to the beautifully appointed rooms, this is a fabulous hotel. I can't wait until we can come back.

Yelp
My last stay here was 3 years ago and I had the most memorable time with amazing staff/service. With that in mind, when we knew we were coming up to Healdsburg for a wedding, I told my husband, "I only want to stay at Hotel Les Mars." This time around, my most recent stay left me quite disappointed and sadly, my last. Things have changed for the worst not the better. Before, the staff were impeccably polished in manners and dress; we were greeted immediately coming in and out of the lobby (every time) and if they saw us coming, would open the door for us and give us cold bottles of water due to the 100 degree heat. This time around, during check-in, when we drove up in the loading zone, no one even came to the door or to us at the car. There was no offer of a glass of wine and after a bit of time at the front desk, two bottles of Dasani water were delivered to us. Really, you are giving us Dasani, filtered water?! Shortly after, as they were going to show us to our room, I stopped and had to ask about our bags and the two people at the front desk were surprised that we didn't have them with us and that they were still in the car. I was really turned off that they would assume and not even think to ask. I should explain, there is a service charge of ~$30 tacked on each day of your stay to cover all gratuities/housekeeping etc. I really like this aspect and don't mind paying for it, since it means I don't have to worry about carrying cash, but only if I get some service. I do want to say though, when I needed ice for our little cooler of medication; the guy showing us to the room offered a mini-fridge and went and brought one up to us immediately. I appreciated this immensely, but this one good deed did not make up for the rest of the odd and bad. As for coming in and out, we'd get a hello, but really nothing more. If I wanted water, I had to call and ask for it. As for dress and grooming, I felt the staff in the front were a bit sloppy and unkempt. There was no protocol on fit or tailoring of clothes and grooming of hair/facial hair. It didn't fit for a hotel of this caliber. Maybe a uniform needs to be put in place? Interestingly, housekeeping were well-dressed, well-groomed and very polite; I think the front needs to take some cues from housekeeping. One thing I was extremely happy was their offering of gluten-free options for breakfast since I've been diagnosed recently with a gluten allergy; it has been difficult to travel and eat out. It was one less thing to worry about. The first morning was wonderful: breakfast was hot, the gf breakfast sandwich was tasty and the bread and muffin almost tasted like the real thing. The next morning, I ordered the sandwich again, telling my husband I wanted my own and that I wasn't sharing. However, the happiness wore off and I had the opposite experience. The entire breakfast was cold, with the exception of lukewarm coffee. The bread was stale and breaking apart; that's when you know it's old gf bread. I couldn't eat it and spat it out. I called the front desk, told her our sandwiches were cold and stale. She didn't say anything, so I continued and just said "please remove them from our bill." She said "ok," no apology, no asking what we can do or "would you like another?" You know what the strangest thing about this breakfast occurrence? Breakfast was delivered at 8am, we were in our room till about 12:30pm with the breakfast tray on the table with the two sandwich plates set next to the tray; one sandwich plate completely untouched. We left our room for 30 minutes and when we came back, the untouched sandwich plate was gone, the only thing gone! The breakfast tray, the other sandwich etc. were still there. How CREEPY is that and so violating! The only way they knew we were gone was either via the camera outside our door or the front desk guy who also delivered our breakfast noting that we were out of the room and either he or someone else came to retrieve it. Why and why only when we were out of the room? Did you not think we'd notice?! It makes me wonder what else they do when they note we are gone?!?! With all this, it really didn't feel like I was staying at a Relais & Chateaux hotel. I wonder if it will even hold this distinction. Sorely and deeply disappointed with Hotel Les Mars! P.S. There is no longer a pool and we were not told of this. It was sealed up a month ago to provide outdoor seating for their hotel restaurant.
