The 31 Best Hotels in Chicago

"The funky Hotel Lincoln has a relaxed vibe befitting its locale next to Lincoln Park and the Lincoln Park Zoo, it's also within walking distance to Second City improv shows and North Avenue Beach. The designers went mad at flea markets, and festoon the walls with mismatched art, and the desk is made up of dresser drawers. Come here with an appetite: The hotel houses multiple restaurants, including Sushi Suite 202, an in-suite omakase experience featuring 17+ courses of choice nigiri, and Sushi by Bou, a popular spot for omakase, Japanese beers, and thoughtful selections in their Whiskey Library." - Elaine Glusac, Nicole Schnitzler

Hotel Lincoln, JdV by Hyatt

"How did it strike you on arrival?Funky neighborhood hotel with a relaxed vibe befitting its locale next to Lincoln Park and the Lincoln Park Zoo. The designers went mad at flea markets, and festoon the walls with mismatched art, and the desk is made up of dresser drawers. Come here with an appetite: The hotel houses multiple restaurants, including Sushi Suite 202, an in-suite omakase experience featuring 17+ courses of choice nigiri, and Sushi by Bou, a popular spot for omakase, Japanese beers, and thoughtful selections in their Whiskey Library. Nice. What’s the crowd like?Families and other fun-seekers with a healthy sense of humor. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.Feels like a vintage hotel, and the art mix in the lobby continues, to great fun, in the rooms. Cozy. The best rooms overlook the park and Lake Michigan. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?Nice bed with loads of pillows. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase?Fun collection of original artwork of all shapes and sizes hung around the room. Bluetooth speakers. Also, “Abe’s Secret Service,” available at the front desk, has mini bar type items that can be delivered to the room. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down.Bathrooms are efficient and stock some fabulous MALIN+GOETZ products. Maybe the most important topic of all: wifi. What’s the word?Good wifi and included. Room service: Worth it?Room service includes locally sourced seasonal specials that change frequently. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you. It's hard to miss Elaine's Coffee Call, the lobby-adjacent coffee shop, and you won't want to. It bustles with life, from guests and locals. J. Parker Rooftop Bar does the usual drinks and small plates, but also stages unique events, like yoga classes with panoramic views. There's a gym on-property, but guests can also buy passes to the large Equinox club nearby for $25. Loaner bikes make great getaway vehicles for exploring the lakefront path nearby. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay?Great location between downtown and the North Side, and walking distance to Second City improv shows. Bottom line: worth it, and why?Great value in a relaxed location." - Elaine Glusac

We were in Chicago for the Stray Kids Dominate Tour. We arrived before the event, left our bag at the hotel, and made our way to Wrigley Field. Before leaving, they provided water in the lobby. This detail was welcomed for a day as hot as it was that day. ||||Before coming to the hotel, we read a few reviews that left us with a poor opinion and we prepared just to crash for the night and head home early. ||||Once we arrived, we discovered how wrong the other ppl's opinions were. They gave us a warm welcome, made check-in possible, even after the concert, and gave us help where ever we needed it. This even applied to parking when one of the staff walked out with us and explained how the parking process worked in the area on the street and their valet option, too. This impressed me so much. I'm still used to old fashioned metered locations, which Chicago does not have in most places now. ||||The room was clean. This was the perfect location of us. The bed was comfortable. Sunrise was amazing. For our next trip I'm looking forward to staying longer. There's so much to do just in walking distance to this hotel. ||||I'll try to update the review with the pics I took from the room.

We were excited to give Hotel Lincoln a try, especially due to it’s prime location. Unfortunately that’s all it had going for it. We arrived and wanted to valet our car but no one was outside, so we left our flashers on and checked in. The woman at reception wrote down our phone number and said someone would text us details when they parked our car. Ok, that made us nervous but they eventually did text with details on how to retrieve our car. As a Hyatt Globalist, we were upgraded to a suite which was really just two studio rooms with an adjoining door, one with a king bed and one with a pull out couch and each with a small bathroom. No problem, you have to get creative when retrofitting an old building. But the longer we spent time in the room the more disappointed we were. Window unit AC that couldn’t be adjusted or turned down (we accidentally turned it to heat in our attempt and the smell was terrible), peeling paint and wallpaper, musty smell, and the bed was so hard that my body hurt in the morning. My husband asked the front desk for bottled water (a Globalist standard request that he uses for a medical device) and we were told that they don’t have any by a man who was not interested in providing any level of service above “bored”. We did talk to the front desk about the issues after the first night and we were told there wasn’t much they can do so we checked out after one night instead of staying for three as planned. You’ll see the hotel responding to many reviews here and on other platforms but our biggest disappointment was the low level of service. It really wasn’t up to Hyatt standards. This is more of a two star hotel, and may be just right for a group of 20-somethings just there to party who don’t care about the comfort of the rooms but otherwise, there’s no reason to stay here.

Amenities were fine…location is excellent. The rooftop bar food was excellent and the view of Lincoln Park is tremendous. Sadly, there is a $15 bullsh*t hidden fee for amenities that they secretly don’t tell you about but just charge you which makes the advertised rate seem lower but it’s not. Parking overnight will also run you $45 across the street or you can valet for $75

I recently stayed at Hotel Lincoln and, while the location is truly one of the best in Chicago — right in the heart of Lincoln Park, near the lakefront, restaurants, and the zoo — the hotel itself left a lot to be desired. The room we were given was noticeably outdated. The furniture and fixtures showed clear signs of wear, and the overall ambiance felt more budget than boutique. What was most frustrating was that the toilet wouldn’t flush properly. While we didn’t report the issue during our stay, it’s the kind of basic functionality you expect to work without question — especially at this price point. Cleanliness was another concern. The room didn’t feel thoroughly cleaned upon arrival. There was visible dust in corners and on surfaces, and the bathroom lacked that fresh, sanitized feel you hope for when checking into a hotel. It didn’t feel dirty enough to be a health issue, but it definitely wasn’t up to standard. The staff interaction was minimal. No one was rude, but nothing stood out as particularly welcoming or service-oriented either — just average. In short, Hotel Lincoln benefits immensely from its prime location, but the quality of the accommodations doesn’t reflect that same standard. With some much-needed updates and attention to room cleanliness and maintenance, it could be a great stay. As it stands, I wouldn’t return or recommend it unless location is your only priority.

Do you want to wait over an hour to check in to the hotel? If so, this is the place for you! A lobby with minimal air conditioning on a 95 degree day? You’ve found the place. What about a dried contact on the floor in the bathroom? No toilet paper holder? Needing to just grab the roll and get some paper off on your own? Make your reservation now!

Good clean older hotel perfectly situated in Lincoln Park. Rooms/baths small yet efficient. Some of the electric outlet’s didn’t work and coffee maker had to be moved to where there was an outlet but minimal issue. Very nice amenities. Good firm mattress and soft bedding. Quiet. Good room temp. Good food/drinks. Welcoming and friendly staff and service workers.

First off, we booked a Park View room. Our view was buildings. 1st red flag. The rooms are hideous. Black mold in the bathroom, not clean, tore up every direction you look. I took photos to illustrate. The shower kept leaking all over. When I called the front desk to ask for towels to clean it up, they said it would take just a few minutes. It took 30 minutes, a phone call to the desk, and then eventually had to go get them ourselves. The blinds in our room would either not open up or would not stay open. There was no heat. The HVAC units in our room did not work. The in-room phone didn't work. The carpets are disgusting. The front desk staff acted like deer caught in headlights when asked any questions. Very simple questions. And ask a hospitality professional of 30 years, I cannot believe Hyatt hasn't taken serious action on this property. I have stayed at AMAZING Hyatt Places for far less and a better stay. The management responses to the bad reviews here are not sufficient. Guests are upset and deserve to remuneration for this decrepit hotel. The lobby is simply putting lipstick on a pig.

I was there for my wedding and they were rude and unhelpful to everyone coming for the wedding. Firstly, they removed rooms from the wedding block early and did not tell us. They couldn’t actually give us more rooms so multiple people booked at other hotels or outside of the wedding block. On wedding day, they didn’t ask if we needed any chairs or tables for the bridal party getting ready. They said they would look when we asked and never brought anything up. We paid the fee to have our welcome bags handed out at the hotel. They were held hostage at the front desk and the staff would not distribute them even when people had their IDs ready to prove they should get them. Lastly they gave two of them to the groom. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone. It is clear to me that they have no interest in addressing their guests’ concerns.

Yelp
About one year ago, we booked a block of rooms at the hotel for a wedding in Spring 08. The hotel (the former Days Inn) was under construction and due to open in Fall 07. After several months of assurance the hotel would be open in time for our event, The Park View has JUST notified us, less than two months from the wedding date, that they will not be open in time. I can't say anything about the room quality or day-to-day operations, but if those in charge can't get their sh*t together, I don't expect the rest of the staff to follow. Update 10/15/OH NINE: STILL not open
