"The Hotel Majestic is charming, elegant and is San Francisco’s oldest continuously operating hotel. It also has another attribute: the fourth floor is said by many guests, and the hotel itself, to be haunted. It is somewhat shocking the hotel is even still standing. Built in 1902 on the estate of California State Legislature member Milton Schmidt, and when Senator Schmidt moved in 1904, the building officially became the Hotel Majestic. Amazingly it managed to avoid damage from the 1906 Great Earthquake, the fires stopping only two blocks away from the hotel. The ghost said to walk the hallways of the fourth floor is that of a young woman. Long term residents of this Pacific Heights neighborhood believe it to be the daughter of the first owner Schmidt, who refused to leave the building after it was sold. The portrait of the young woman said to haunt the halls hangs downstairs in the lobby.  There are many personal stories regarding the supposedly haunted fourth floor. Common experiences include the bathtubs (the majority of which sport clawed, brass feet) mysteriously filling with water, the sound of footsteps and keys clanging along the walls outside, faucets turning on and waking guests in the middle of the night, and strange dreams or nightmares. Skeptics point out that nearly all the phenomena can be explained by old plumbing and changes in water pressure. Nonetheless, the joy of a good ghost story is hard to deny. The “Sweet November” production manager stayed in the Hotel Majestic during filming of the movie, and reportedly told one of the desk clerks that she felt her bed shaking in the night, thinking there was an earthquake-there wasn’t. A clerk who was delivering pillows to room 408, adjacent to room 407 which is often considered the ‘most haunted’ room, was frightened by a more uncommon event. When the woman walked in to set down the pillows, she felt two hands on her shoulders pushing her back. The hotel and many guests claim the haunting to be friendly, if cheeky and playful. Surviving over a century, the Hotel Majestic has been surrounded by change over the years. It has, however, kept close to its original architecture, and the rooms reflect both turn of the century design as well as strong Victorian accents and an Edwardian styling. English and French antiques, old fashioned clawed-foot bathtubs, fireplaces, double sinks, bay windows, and Victorian furniture adorn three kinds of rooms: Standard Queen, Junior Suites, and One Bedroom Suites. Panel drapery and four poster beds preserve the romantic and from-the-past atmosphere." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

How we came to know of this hotel is an interesting one. As an amateur treasure hunter I often use a metal detector to search for old coins and relics. While searching a Victorian style home dating to 1914 in nearby Martinez, Ca I discovered a .25 cent trade token dating to the early 1900's. This token was unique as it had the name "Hotel Majestic S.F." I set out to research the hotel which had a very limited but interesting history about it. When finally my wife and I had an opportunity to stay we made the trip out to stay in the famed room 407. Unfortunately, upon arrival our assigned room was not the 407 room confirmed on our reservation. When mentioned they made an attempt to change to the desired 407 but it was unavailable. We settled on the adjacent room 408.This was the Ballet Suite and the room was charming and everything we wanted it to be. After dinner in nearby Japan town, we spent time talking with the kind staff and learning more about the hotel and surrounding area. We had drinks at the Butterfly Lounge and our bartender was amazing, serving up quality beverages and good conversations. Our suite was clean and comfortable and we were allowed a late checkout. Coffee and Tea with assorted fruit and pastries were available in the morning. We had a very memorable experience.

Staying in this hotel was really fantastic. All the staff is nice, available, and efficient. The location is also very convenient, quiet (which I really appreciated for work) but still central and close to many tourist places. The decoration is very original and this is very pleasant. A hotel which I definitely recommend !

Clean, gorgeous hotel and spacious rooms. Friendly and attentive staff. Has a few quirks as you’d expect from a 120 year old building. Only thing keeping it from 5 stars is the room service - the restaurant is closed on Mondays, and the free breakfast is pitiful and worse than you might expect from a Best Western in an attempt to get you to order their $12 eggs and bacon.

From start to finish this was an amazing stay! The hotel is unique and rich in history. It’s beautiful and quirky and fun. Even the elevator was fun because I discovered something new in the paintings each time we used it. The location was fantastic, so close to Japantown and a short walk to California and Van Ness to catch the historic street car. The best part was the staff. Everyone was so welcoming, kind and professional. I haven’t gotten that level of service at any other hotel anywhere. I would definitely stay there again.

This hotel is a gem. It is truly a hidden gem in a great area near Union Square. The service is top notch 5+++. All staff are very friendly and helpful. Manaj who works at the front desk is a true gentleman. During our three day stay, he always went out of his way to tell us where to go and how to get there. He is so friendly and helpful and the best part of this hotel is its people and the service. It is an old hotel, and Manaj told is about the history of the hotel and how it was converted to a hotel over a hundred years ago. Speaking of which, there is an antique feel to the hotel and the rooms. That being said, everything is remarkably clean and cozy and well decorated. Shower water pressure is kind of low. at the time we were there, there was a problem with the shower but they were fixing it. I loved the breakfast. The location is perfect. I am going to give this hotel a 4.5 (not 5) because this is not a perfect hotel. In other words, if you want a flawless place to stay, this is not it. You will probably have to spend 3 times as much to find such hotels in this area. However, this is a very very good hotel with a few minor shortcomings that makes it perfect for most people who don't want to spend $$$ for a 5 star hotel For the price, I give this hotel a 5+++. We paid $130 a night and I highly highly recommend it.

The Hotel Majestic brought character, uniqueness, and charm to our recent stay in San Francisco! The staff was incredibly accommodating, they had breakfast available each morning, and was right in the center of the city giving us great access to all San Fran has to offer. We will be recommending this hotel for years to come. Thank you Hotel Majestic for making our first time in San Fran one to remember!

The hotel was really nice if you're into old timey settings. The staff was nice and were very helpful. Maria made sure I knew where everything was in the hotel it was great. Also Alisha helped me find some items I forgot in my room we went up together and she made sure I found everything. I will say I tried calling them multiple times while I was out and for some reason they never pick up. I really hope they get that fixed for when I want to book there again in the future.

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous. It’s a throwback to the early 1900’s when crystal chandeliers, hand turned bannisters and claw foot bathtubs we’re valued. The staff are extremely attentive and helpful and the hotel is spotless. You’ll enjoy a very competitive rate, continental breakfast and a great location. The biggest drawback is that there is no onsite parking and so it takes some planning to find nearby garages, but the concierge is helpful. I would definitely stay again.

Yelp
Back in 2017 my boss's assistant reprimanded me on my travel spending. IDK..something about not spending a thousand dollars on dinner. :-/ I quickly learned that If I spend LESS on hotels, I have MORE money for wining and dining my clients; that is how I found this gem! For around 200-300 usd, you get to stay in a MAGICAL HISTORIC Hotel on SUTTER Street which is a stones throw from all the high end restaurants in the embarcadero area (Ozomo, La Mar, etc) Hotel Majestic has various kind of rooms (Suites, twin bed rooms, etc) so make sure to speak to the front desk about what your needs are so they recommend the best configuration for you. This is a HISTORIC hotel. While it is magical, and gorgeous and full of old world charm, there are some details that are old and slightly worn; i.e. the curtains, a.c., etc. I can care less as I just care about location, cleanliness and staff which is SO NICE.

Yelp
This hotel was excellent. Love the architecture, and the vibe of the hotel. Our room was clean and spacious. Only complaint was the phone didn't work and the shower head didn't work properly. But enjoyed having a claw tub. The views were nice and the service at the front desk was impeccable. Also love the complimentary breakfast! Would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to be near a lot of places to see in San Fran. It was conveniently close to a bunch of bus stops and japantown.

Y M.

Yelp
Terrible owners/management and customer service. Front desk person was rude and mean, and they refused to fix a major plumbing issue in our room.

Jennifer I.

Yelp
Charming hotel that I visit whenever I have business in SF. The staff are really pleasant and helpful, and the vibe here is a throwback to another time in a really cool way. I soak in a clawfoot tub, and sleep ins read in a four poster bed in a beautiful corner suite. Love it.

Yelp
Frustrating stay at the Majestic. When I arrived, the person checking us in said that we would owe $661 upon our departure. I informed her that I had paid through Booking.com. She looked up the reservation, confirmed that we had paid and then said that we definitely would not be charged, that she couldn't initially "see" the payment because of a change in software. We checked out and the lady said nothing. The following day, I discovered a $764.84 charge to my bank account! I of course called and expressed my frustration. The money was refunded within 48 hours. Nevertheless, the situation left a very bad taste in my mouth. Further, I asked that a massive air filter in the room be removed (in previous stays it wasn't there, and it was blocking our ability to use the table for guests). The front desk said that they would send someone to remove the air filter, and no one ever came. Our final issue was with the bar service. The bartender on both occasions was inattentive and slow. It was quite annoying. We have stayed at this hotel multiple times. This time unfortunately left a very bad impression. I don't know if we will be returning. Very frustrating experience.

Yelp
We needed a hotel for one night in this part of the city, and this place totally hit the spot. Unusual for many hotels I've visited, the way this hotel portrays itself on its website is very accurate. We stayed in the queen junior suite, which was roomy & comfortable. The bed required some climbing skills to get into, but I guess that's the way they were in the mid-19th Century, when the building was built. The staff were great (thanks for giving us help and history in the morning, Manoj!). Mayank checked us in very efficiently and with a good welcoming. The gym is nice and is appropriate size for the place. Breakfast is as advertised. It's a good value 3* hotel, and it has history and Grace. We would stay here again.

Yelp
Amazing hotel, nice, clean, cute decor. Alisha at the front desk was amazing. Had great customer service. She made our stay pleasurable. Even made sure we received an item that we left behind. We loved staying here! Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Hotel Majestic is an absolute god send! I have been staying here for a week (feels much longer lol) and will be here another half week due to flooding from sprinklers from a fire above my apartment unit. They have been so gracious, accommodating, and kind to me during my stay with them. Hotel Majestic in one of the best neighborhoods in San Francisco (near Japantown) which is quiet, safe, and fairly easy to find street parking. Manoj, Alisha, and the other staff are some of the kindest people I've ever met. Thank you Majestic Hotel for making this unexpected experience go as smoothly as possible for me.

Cecilia S.

Yelp
My Fiancé and I had stayed for only one night, and in that one night, they were SO accommodating. They work with you if you need to check in early/late and have a 24-hour concierge if you have any questions regarding your reservation/stay. They greeted us warmly when we came in, gave us a speedy check in, and accommodated us when we were a tad bit late due to traffic. Sadly, there is no parking but some nearby. The rooms are absolutely beautiful, with a Victorian style theme coming with a safe and mini fridge for your convenience. Free Wi-Fi and a room phone are provided as well. Unfortunately due to covid their restaurant inside was closed but the bar is open on certain days/hours and they always provide small snacks and juices in their dining room. They are truly a hidden gem in San Franciso with walking distance to japantown and other tourist attractions. Will DEFINITELY be staying here again!

Alexis N.

Yelp
I really enjoyed staying here. The staff was really friendly and accommodating. Will def come back and recommend to friends.

Elaine D.

Yelp
Wonderful!! We stayed at the big suite and had lots of space and the bathroom was very clean. All was very clean and spacious and classy. We stayed next to the "haunted" hotel room #407. I think we were at 408 or something like that. stayed 3 days and when I was alone in the morning and my partners went out for food. I had sleep paralysis and heard footsteps and saw a ghost girl walking around the hallway across my bed. It was crazy and scary!!! She had long brown hair and wore a Victorian dress. It might've been my imagination but that added to the experience! There was breakfast in the morning which was nice. Wi-Fi was included too. Will stay here next time I'm in the area....beautiful place near Japan town

Gabrielle T.

Yelp
Okay, I have to admit that when we walked in the hotel's lobby, it felt and looked straight haunted. My boyfriend and I looked at each other and just started laughing. At one point I think we did the Martin "daaaamn", hand over mouth and everything. We made our way up to our humble abode and again, laughter abound as we looked around the room: a time capsule that immediately transported us to the 17th century. (Not physically, thank God... Wasn't a great time for my people.) The four-poster bed frame was adorable, and the heavy curtains are probably perfect for a hangover. Our room was a good size and since the hotel boasts a pretty interesting theme, I spent a good amount of time exploring the room itself. Of course, there are some sacrifices you must make when entering the 17th century. Carpet that you can definitely smell, teeny TVs (a 17th century staple), and an elevator that I flat-out refused to enter because I can't imagine my sister being notified of my death only to hear that I wasted away in a damn elevator from 1853 that I never should've used at a haunted hotel. Anyway, we actually had a good stay and enjoyed our NYE (damn this review is late!) in the comfortable confines of our spot and it's worth a stay to check out the concept alone.

Gail L.

Yelp
Charming hotel but needs some upgrades. Had to ask for room to be serviced multiple. Happy to have breakfast but was lackluster. Lovely area.

Michelle F.

Yelp
This was my first time at this hotel and I must say I won't be back and here's why: While it is nice looking on the outside, the inside doesn't match. The hotel itself seems old and gives me funeral home vibes. Not only that but they had a private Halloween party that went on until 3am. The walls are very thin and I couldn't sleep.

Cecilia L.

Yelp
How is it that each time I come here my experience only gets better and better? Seriously feels like home away from home. Or more like, CAN THIS BE MY HOME????? haha I seriously love this place. Great customer service, bar on site, beautiful aesthetic and character throughout the hotel and in the rooms, and just overall a lovely experience.

Nora H.

Yelp
I can't hardly begin to list the issues with this hotel. Booked a room on THEIR website, not Expedia, or Booking, or Hotels.com. When my niece went to check in, she was told they had no record of my reservation. The desk clerk repeated said this was the case, despite me given my Jim my confirmation number over the phone. They finally found it, but the clerk told us the in house reservation system is not directly connected to THEIR OWN website. They then proceeded to show my niece to a room that was already occupied by another guest, much to that guest's surprise. They did finally get the room right, but then called me to tell me that they needed my credit card number. When I said I'd already entered it when I reserved the room, they said they didn't have it. I told them I'd have to call them back when I could park (I was on the freeway). Meanwhile, my niece called me to tell me they're elevator was out of service and our room was on the 2nd floor, which was ~30 steps from the lobby. I chose this hotel party because their write ups indicated that handicapped accessibility was a priority for them. When we asked the desk clerk how long it had been out, she told us one week. This was a blatant lie, as we saw the sign posted on the elevator was dated 8/2, a minimum of seven weeks. I opted to keep the room anyway (MY mistake) but from here on in I will double check that a hotel's elevator is operational regardless of what the hotel's website says. I did myself some major damage climbing up and down those stairs, as I have arthritis and bone spurs in one knee. I was afraid if I didn't take the room they wouldn't refund my $$$. There's really no excuse for them not noting that on their website after seven weeks, but I'm sure they were afraid they'd lose business if they posted that fact online, as the hotel has five floors. That said, the room was definitely unique and lovely. Regardless, due to the near continual errors and the hotel's failure to accept responsibility for their epic communication failures, I cannot in good conscience recommend this hotel to anyone.

Yelp
I would stay here again in a second! It's a pretty little boutique hotel and service was just great. I spent some time in the bar which was a nice time, too. My only reason for giving 4 stars is that the website is not updated to reflect that the kitchen is closed. Other than that I loved it and I'm looking forward to having to stay here again!

Jeff R.

Yelp
The staff - Alisa, Manoj, Maria, et al. - were welcoming and helpful. I stayed in a King Deluxe Suite and it was excellent. Would stay again!

Yelp
Decided to have a staycation. Hotel is very cozy. Staff incredibly accommodating and friendly. bed was comfortable and location is very central.

Emily R.

Yelp
Pros: -cheap -front desk was nice -room was pretty, we got a suite Cons: -Elevator wasn't working so we had to walk up 4 flights of stairs -everything is creaky and old; you can hear your neighbors' footsteps and people climbing creaky stairs. The carpet was worn and there were stains on various places, paint chipping, mismatched ceiling painting, etc -no ac -TV remote didn't work properly. It wasn't programmed for the TV so it controlled the channels, but to control the power or volume we had to get up to press the buttons. -some windows in our room wouldn't open, and the ones that did were really hard to do so -the bed had sheets that were like 200 thread count at most, and pilling in areas. The mattress was hard and the pillows were not comfortable. Not comfy at all. Also there was a hair in my bed when I took off the covers. -the complimentary breakfast was pitiful, just a few muffins, bread, apples, cereal, and yogurt. No protein or anything cooked. Also the toaster was janky and my fiance had pry my bagel out because it was stuck. It was also constantly making creaking noises, which made for terrible ambience since there was no background music or anything in the room. The upholstery was also very dirty. -no parking on site and the off site parking was expensive. -the newspapers they had out were from a month ago lol Overall, we were very disappointed. It definitely didn't feel "majestic."

Marisa D.

Yelp
Lovely front desk attendant. He was very accommodating and helpful and pleasant. The room had high ceilings and an a/c which came in handy. Super comfy bed and pillows. the location was also great for public transit. I would definitely stay here again. Call the hotel directly instead of using a third party booking site and they'll offer you a much better deal. I was arriving before 3 pm check in and they said they would have my room cleaned first so that I could have it ready by my 1 pm arrival time. They also held our bags when we checked so we could hangout in the area comfortably.

Johnathan H.

Yelp
Everything and everyone is fabulous at this Hotel! Everyone from upper management to house keeping couldn't be nicer. Super professional and accommodating. I only stumbled across this place as I had some in between time before transitioning to a new condo here in the city. What a gem. Super friendly and warm staff, great rooms and everything is so clean. They have a great coffee bar and breakfast every morning, and even a fully stocked bar to unwind at later in the day. There is even some great history with the building that I feel guilty for not knowing of before my stay. Carl at the bar was very impressive with his knowledge of the building and some of the mystery surrounding its past. But you will have to investigate that more yourself! Great place and piece of San Francisco History.

Jessica C.

Yelp
Choose to stay at Hotel Majestic when visiting San Francisco! There's an amazing cafe and bar to satisfy your tastebuds. Justin & his staff are incredibly friendly and wonderful to their guests. The location of this hotel is central to many great coffee shops, restaurants and the downtown area. Justin booked a very fancy comfortable room for us. The luscious room size, bed, bathroom and space fit my needs while I stayed in San Francisco.

Adrienne S.

Yelp
Tldr: i would say it's mid just cuz of all the little things here and there. from someone who's 19 the place is historic and beautiful but not somewhere i would probably stay again. My partner and i stayed for a week and it was beautiful and clean from the moment we walked in the building. staff are super friendly but it took like 4 days just for our room to get cleaned. Beds are semi comfy but not long term. The room we first got put into had a beautiful deep tub that ended up leaking so we had to move. The next room was nice but the bathroom was kinda a joke tbh. the shower was no more than 5'4" tall so even i had to duck and my partner is 6'6" so you can imagine the struggle he went through to shower. There aren't a lot of outlets so if your staying for awhile prepare for that. ac unit in the window was vv nice when it came to keeping the room cool but only the 5th floor has ac and it also made the mornings hard because the blinds didn't do a very good job at keeping out the light Overall i would say our stay was ok. the hotel just needs a couple small upgrades i'd say. even just new shower heads. not to mention that our bathroom tub was like lowkey gross when we checked in. the grout needs some serious cleaning and there is like hard water and soap scum on the shower heads. i get that the hotel is like madddd old but i feel like there isn't much upkeep going on when it comes to convenience i guess. only one microwave in the entire hotel and it's with the coffee. breakfast in the morning is lack luster to say the least but what are ya gonna do. I would say i don't think i would stay again but it was a good place to stay while we were there

Charles B.

Yelp
I can't say enough about this enchanting hotel! We recently stayed in a King suite, which was not nearly as expensive as other nearby places, and it was fantastic! I felt like a President, sitting in the elegantly decorated room. A historic landmark, this very special place has classic, Victorian decor throughout. Really hoping to see the restaurant (Cafe' Majestic) open again soon, as they have been having difficulty securing staffing since the pandemic. It's such a beautiful, romantic dining room with a yesteryear style. This place has charm upon charm...and even tells of a "ghost". Our kids were over the moon, and informed us this was now the ONLY place to stay in San Francisco!

Rach S.

Yelp
Stayed 2 nights. Beautiful old hotel. Staff was super friendly! No on-site parking available which I hated. We parked a few blocks away and it was cold/windy walking to the hotel. The beds were so hard! We stayed in the master suite. The walls were thin. You can hear people's footsteps all night so it was hard to fall asleep.

Donald E.

Yelp
Best hotel experience of my life. Every once in a while you find someone so exemplary performing their duties that you just have to stop and admire. Hotel manager Amit appears to be some kind of guest services savant, making guests feel like Hotel Majestic is their home away from home. I learned about Hotel Majestic on a ghost hunt tour. We entered the building with hushed awe, it is so well restored. We learned about room 407 being haunted by a girl named Lisa. Amit made a reservation for me right then and I called to see if I could get room 407. No, nothing close except for room 209. When I checked in, he handed me the keys to room 407 - there had been a cancellation. What a treat! I didn't see the ghost, but there were just enough minor weirdnesses to tell a great story. Everyone at the hotel was exceptionally friendly, polite, and professional. I plan to stay there again when I'm in San Francisco

Jenn G.

Yelp
My first trip after no travel during the pandemic was a surprise visit to San Francisco to visit my daughter for her birthday. I wanted to stay somewhere close and also somewhere fun. Back in the day I used to go to the bar here and remembered it as being historic and beautiful. It hit the mark. They upgraded me to the Cyril Magnin suite, Which was a large living area with a pull out couch, fireplace and other seating with a view of the city streets and also a bedroom with a king size canopy bed. Bathroom was beautiful, double sinks and marble with high ceilings. There was a flat screen TV in each room. Nothing fancy as far as technology goes, and the furniture is definitely not modern, but in a place like this it shouldn't be. I loved it! The concierges couldn't have been nicer. The restaurant and bar are still closed, but hopefully they will be reopening soon, as they are gorgeous! they did have concert complementary juice coffee and waters near the lobby area for guests. I highly recommend this place for your stay, the price was ridiculously reasonable for San Francisco and it was really fun to be someplace with so much history. It is one of the oldest hotels in the city. It is centrally located and super easy to either walk or take public transportation to anywhere or you want to go.

Tanika T.

Yelp
Hosted my 30th birthday party here -- and loved every minute of it. Justin and his team are very fun and easy to work with. From our first point of contact to the last -- he was on it and keen on ensuring we had a good time. They cared about our event as though it were their own. I highly recommend them for any event, birthday, baby shower, small wedding reception -- they are awesome. Gave us fun ideas and accommodated us with our theme every step of the way. Can't wait to have another event here -- in the meantime will settle for their awesome bar. Do check it out -- Mindy makes the innovative cocktails -- pleased and happy is how you'll feel.

Yelp
This is THE BEST hotel in San Francisco. I've stayed here half a dozen times over the years and I'll never stay anywhere else in the City. The owners and staff are friendly as heck and truly care about the property and their guests. It's very much a hidden gem. For anyone worried about safety, it's in a great part of town and I've never had issues walking around it at night alone. Ted he history of the building is fascinating too, be sure to ask about it!

Kirk S.

Yelp
You owe it to yourself to stay here. The Hotel Majestic is an icon. It's over 100 years old and absolutely bursting with history - even the furniture seems to have that antique, slightly worn-in, but stately vibe. Despite the history and the fame, this is a dirt-cheap place to stay in SF, meaning it's extremely accessible nowadays. Let's go ahead and get the problems out of the way: there's no AC. The floor creaks. Everything is old, slightly out-of-date, and worn in. The building is so well-built that it blocks most cell phone signals. The elevator is slow. The shower is an adventure in confusion and lacks a vent fan. At the Hotel Majestic, you're going to be comfortable, but at the standard of the '70s, not the '10s. Thing is, staying here is absolutely still worth it. The service here is absolutely superb across the board - every member of staff is professional, courteous, and just plain nice. The beds and rooms are immensely comfortable in every way. The location is a perfect walking distance from great places (e.g. Japantown) but also a quick walk or Uber ride from work places (e.g. the Financial District). Best yet, the price genuinely can't be beat in the area - go any lower and you're looking at a hostel or a "shared bathroom" sort of joint. I can't recommend this place enough!

Veronica R.

Yelp
First of all, do your research before you stay here so you will know if it's a good fit for you. Go to their website and understand this hotel is over 100 years old. Also understand it isn't going to have a speedy elevator and AC. It's a historic building and has to and should stay that way. I picked this place on recommendation from a friend, and because the location was two miles from my destination for work, and the price was right. I also did research on this hotel and knew what I was getting into. This hotel is quintessential San Francisco. I stayed here three nights on business in a Queen Junior Suite. I knew exactly what to expect and was not disappointed. First of all, the staff are outstanding. I've traveled a lot for work and the last time I had such hospitality was at a boutique hotel in Novara, Italy. The first night I went to the bar and was greeted by Amit who does a beautiful job with the hotel's specialty cocktails. In the bar was one of the management staff named Roz and he was talkative, kind, witty, and accommodating. The hotel room (309) was very clean and comfortable! I've never taken a bath in a clawfoot tub so that was an absolute treat. My suite had a canopy queen four post bed with antique furniture. This place is full of charm and I cannot stress how fantastic all the staff were, from front desk folks to valet to housekeeping. It was such a fun and lovely experience and I didn't have any issues with excessive street noise any more than any other SF hotel I've stayed. My work travels have allowed me to stay at many different types of hotels and I can say I will most definitely stay here again. I knew from the start I would have no regrets. This is a true boutique hotel. What would be really awesome is if the gas fireplaces in the room worked. I dunno if that's a retrofit situation or what but it would make it even more charming and fun.

Yelp
I recently book a night at the Majestic Hotel in San Francisco and what a nice surprise, the hotel is beautiful, the staff is very friendly. It is very well located because there are many restaurants and bars nearby. When I came back from parking my car the suitcases were already in the room. The bar was closed because it was Monday and they opened it for us and prepared some drinks, while we chat and have a good time. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel and I appreciated that the staff went above and beyond to make sure we enjoy our stay. Thank you Mr. Amit!

Yelp
3rd time I've stayed here so this time I decided to leave a review. It's a nice Victorian style decor including the rooms. I have stayed in the regular room and master suite. The master suite is was it is, master suite with large bedroom and large living room with fireplace and TVs in each room. The staff are friendly and nice. Even including the valet guy to the bartender. If you're lucky you may find parking in the street but valet is easy and reasonably priced. The hotel is not far walk from places if that's your thing. This past weekend we walked over to Japan town for the Cherry Blossom festival. And not a far walk from the bars on Van Ness and Polk I would recommend this hotel. Bonus it's not near all the traffic like Union Square. It was easy for me to get in and out.

Yelp
I can't begin to explain how amazing the customer service is at Hotel Majestic. We were blown away by how amazing the staff was. They are so friendly, willing to help in anyway, and will drop what they are doing to get you what you need. Not to mention the hotel is gorgeous, vintage and perfectly clean. Absolutely loved our stay here and will definitely stay here again if ever in the SF area.

Yelp
CLASSIC hotel meets CLASSY staff! This was my experience at San Francisco's longest running hotel, the Hotel Majestic. Located conveniently in lower Pacific Heights, I was pleasantly surprised at how close I was to everything: Japantown, restaurants, and more. If you are looking to be close to some of the Bay Area's best spots, then this is the place for you. The hotel was terrific. From the 'sweet' suite, to the brilliant ballroom located on the first floor - I had a great time there. My stay was during the Asian Film Festival, which meant the hotel was packed! That said, I barely noticed any of the other guests (some celebrity) during my stay. Even packed, the privacy at the hotel was great. The best part of the hotel experience was definitely the staff. From early morning (3:30am) coffee to late night eatery recommendations - they accommodated my every need. Connie was exceptionally helpful in educating me about the rich history of the hotel. Trung was great in supporting me in the wee hours of the day. Justin - the manager - was incredibly helpful in making my stay easy and, downright awesome. Do yourself a favor and experience San Francisco in style! Enjoy the Hotel Majestic.

Yelp
I was thinking of giving them 3 stars but they deserve a little more than 3... So bumped them up to 4. Stayed here in early June... Checked in Monday for a week long stay for business. Staff at front desk were very nice. My room was 309 in the corner of the building with a view of Sutter Street. Cute Victorian style room with lots of great little details. The room had a high queen 4 post canopy bed... Haven't slept under one of those since I was a little kid. I felt like a queen! The bed was super high so I literally had to hop onto the bed but no biggie. Here are tons of light fixtures all over which were beautiful, however, to get bright light in the room I had to turn on like 6 fixtures! There's a beautiful wood wardrobe cabinet in the top with a safe inside, flat screen tv on the wall, sofa, small coffee table and fireplace (not sure if it works). In the bathroom, a ceramic tub, 2 sinks, and a small toilet. The tub has light vinyl curtains which were a bit annoying when showering since it kept billowing in. I think heavier curtains would have helped. There's a lot of charm in the room, however, I think they need to do a lot of touch ups. For example, the wood molding needed paint touch ups, bath counters and floor tiles needed regrouting. Restaurant Review: Takes long, but the 2 breakfasts I had here were good. Bar Review: Nice selection of whiskeys, cute space, nice service and great pours.

Yelp
Great deal for above average lodging in this area. Don't know why others are so spiteful, everything good and location is excellent. You want worse for more MORE money??? Go to the high priced spots in the tenderloin. Step over the bums, crack heads and other discarded creatures on your search to higher ground, higher prices, dummy.

Yelp
This became a nightmare. I used to live in Japantown area and passed by this hotel often and look from outside was fine so when I came back to SF to get together with friends, I decided to try this boutique hotel. I got a standard room from hotel website and it says ADA compliant... claw foot tub. But when I checked in, it was not even regular bath tub but walk in shower. I sent an email to hotel then they started stalking me by calling at my room phone 5 times and insisted I reserved a ADA room and front desk informed me ADA room with walk in shower when I checked in. There was no such thing at all but Navin kept being persistent. I contacted Amex and Navin made a false statement still as he said I made ADA room reservation. Navin, would you please go to your hotel website and find who can make a reservation with ADA? It just came to Standard or Deluxe room and there is no ADA room reservation available. It may be simply their reservation system glitch but his attitude problem made me wonder if this is a typical South Asian operating cheap hotel example. Carpet - especially at that super slow elevator was so smelly and outdated. Room cleaning woman starts working at 7AM. Valet parking boys couldn't be more careless for those who come in or go out unless you asked for valet. Front desk is empty often as they check people via surveillance camera. It is a shame that they operates this hotel in this unprofessional way. Get yourself together and learn how to appreciate and admit what was wrong.

Yelp
This place is great, all the people who work there are super helpful and kind, all the rooms are comfortable I like to get the suites or bigger room myself, more space the better. I like that the hotel is close to everywhere In the city you want to go to. Easy to get food and site see. There is parking close by and around hotel on street and It's in Nice area in the city.

Yelp
The front desk was very welcoming and I felt like a princess in the King suite. The bed was cozy and the bathroom was gorgeous. I was scared of it being haunted because on Google it said it was on some haunted tour or something and I'm not about that life. Nope. Nothing happened. I slept like a baby, and really felt welcome and at home (and if there was a ghost, I thanked them for being nice). The bed was gorgeous and sooooo comfy and the location was great! Right next to Japantown and close enough to walk to other parts of SF!

Yelp
Interesting hotel. Old school. Beds are harder than concrete and you have to be 6' tall to high jump into it. Pillows are 2" thick and can be used as oven trays. The only good thing I can say is they new how to make a mean martini. Overpriced and not worth it.

Yelp
Such a special place!! I just returned from a 3 night stay and due to pictures and reviews (and price) I tried Hotel Majestic. A fantastic experience from beginning to end: the manager Amit who goes out of his way to make everything special; his touch is everywhere from hand pouring a drink to the music playing in the library. Carl, the sweet, classy bartender was always welcoming and pleasant. The staff at the desk very helpful and warm. My room was clean and spacious. I will be back for sure. Hotel Majestic is not just a stop-in but a true SF experience!!! You will not be disappointed!!

Yelp
Pros: Pretty building. Clean rooms and linens. Safe and small fridge in rooms. Ice on most floors. Front desk matched Groupon price when Groupon wouldn't let me purchase the deal. Cons: where do I start? First and foremost, they charge $40 per day to valet park your car... something it didn't mention anywhere online. Next, Our room was super smelly... like wet hound dog smelly. Although the room, bed, bathroom were clean, the smell was super bad like moldy floors. It clogged our sinuses up really bad. Speaking of floors, they were un-even and squeaky anywhere you walked, and by un-even i mean you better hold on to the stair railings or else you might fall. Lights next to the bed didn't work. Furniture was super old so the drawers didn't really work. The window AC unit was pretty much worthless so our room was super stuffy and hot. Tried to have room service but it wasn't available on a Sunday. Decided to go down to the restaurant and the staff was all new, and the menu in our room was completely different than what they offer on Sunday. Didn't end up eating there. Fire escape windows were also painted shut. Elevator was also super slow and at times seemed to not work properly. Bottom line, unless you're okay with a clean but smelly, super bizarre and creepy hotel, don't go there. Did I mention its supposedly haunted?! We heard steps down the hall and nobody was there as well... and I've never been one to believe in ghosts... but i know what we heard!!! Weird place. Won't go back. $200 between the car parking and room and fees - that's with our Groupon matched price and AAA discount.

Yelp
I wish I could leave less than one star. I would not stay here again and don't suggest it. It was dirty and all rooms on our floor were under construction, all left open with dirt, dust, tools, laundry and food left around. They started construction at 7 am Sunday morning and the customer service was horrible. They called the room several times and came to the door an hour before our check out wanting us to leave. It does not seem like they care to keep clients. They were unfriendly. I WOULD NOT STAY HERE AGAIN AND REGRET IT.

Yelp
We hosted our wedding at Hotel Majestic on 7.7.17. From the very start our experience has been nothing but amazing!! We worked with Justin on the planning for our reception. He was always prompt in returning emails and answering questions. Any request I had he was able to make it happen and he was able to fit everything into my budget. The staff knew of my request for the wedding even before I asked them. That's how detailed Justin was. From the first steps Into the hotel to the very end of our weekend checking out of the hotel our experience was amazing. HOTEL-Very beautiful hotel with original charm of it's time with some modern touches. Very clean and comfortable. Rooms are very well decorated and the beds are super comfortable. Yes previous reviews are right about the bed being very high, but I loved it. Also water pressure not the best but I was on both fifth floor and the third floor during our stay and our 3rd floor room shower pressure was great! These rooms are not your modern Hilton or Marriott but you don't come to the Majestic for that, you come for the charm and history of this boutique hotel. Our wedding guests ended up booking 9 rooms from the hotel and they all had nothing but compliments about the rooms and their stay. STAFF- From the entry into the hotel I was greeted by super friendly staff. My entire stay the staff went above and beyond with any request I had. They always greeted me with a hello and a smile. They were attentive and made the stay at the hotel very memorable. This has been hands down the best experience of hotel staff that I have ever had!! Amit is amazing and super kind, as well as raj, Justin, and there was a gentleman at the front desk who was working during the morning and afternoon during our stay (I didn't get his name) and also a very nice lady who worked the very last shift of the night. Our guests of the wedding had only great compliments their entire stay about the staff!! We checked out Saturday but we decided to stay one more night in SF so I contacted the hotel and they told me come on back and I was able to check back in within 20 minutes of me contacting them! If anyone has an event they need to have hosted I would 100% recommend having it here at Hotel Majestic. The food for our wedding was very delicious!! We received so many comments about how good the food was. So compliments to the chef! We will be back and we are already thinking about making this our place we stay when we come visit the city again!! This review doesn't do the hotel justice, so anyone needing to find a place for their party, don't think twice about Hotel Majestic, you will be very happy with everything!!!!

Yelp
We stayed at the Majestic many years ago, a couple of times, and it was very nice. It has, alas, fallen from any pretense to majesty. Bathroom: 1. glass shelves and faucet handles were all loose, shelves near to falling and breaking. 2. Shower head badly in need of cleaning - there was practically no spray. Probably clogged with all kinds of gunk. 3. NO SOAP DISH IN SHOWER! We had to bend down to pick up soap and shampoo off the floor. Crazy! Room: Desk lamp with hanging cord, and no nearby outlet. Decorative only. Nutso. Needs an extension cord to reach outlet a few feet away. Does anyone in management even check this stuff? Air conditioner not working. According to desk, it's due to be replaced. Wonder how long that's been the case. Clock: no obvious way to change the time, which was wrong. Finally found a small cover on the back which had to be unscrewed to access time set. Nothing on main panel in front. Man sent up to room didn't know, either. I found that one myself. We made our reservation on their website, and got an email confirmation. When we arrived Sun. 9/16/18, they had NO record of it! What the heck is that about? Finally, the top of the bed is three feet off the floor! I nearly had to have a ladder or helicopter to get in/out of the bed! Whacko! My rating would be no stars at all if that was possible. If you want a decent night's rest, etc., don't stay there.

Yelp
So charming! If you're looking for a cookie-cutter hotel, this isn't it. It's old-school San Francisco. My room was beautiful. While I didn't need it, I was surprised to see it even had an air conditioner. Customer service was outstanding. I'll be back for sure.
