After months of researching hotels for our Paris trip, we found the Hotel Minerve in our Lonely Planet guide for the Latin Quarter. We knew it was a small hotel on a semi-busy street but wanted charm, a good jumping off place for adventures. Located only a few blocks from Notre Dame, this lovely hotel had an excellent staff well educated on local sites, transportation and thier recommendation of a few places to eat were right on. The lobby is small, victorian like, and the owner keeps old books everywhere for visitors. Internet service was available (darn those Euro keypads!) Our room was on the 5th floor, usual tiny elevator could not fit two of us with luggage (ah the charm!) so we hoofed the spiral staircase to our floor. The hallways are full of impressive tapestries and oil paintings, clean, and an interior courtyard was painted with cool brigh cloud designs. Our room? Real tiny, the almost queen size bed was 70% of the room, the shower barely fit one person.Yet, we had a marvelous balcony with great city and street views with two chairs, table, perfect for drinking and card games every night. We tried the buffet breakfast the first day, it was pretty lame so we skipped this all week and found a bakery across the street-thick coffee, chocolate crossiants, they barely made it back to the room.
Overall, good service, clean rooms, although a bit worn, but lovely oil paintings adorned the walls, TV, hair dryer, and we did not short out any electrical devices.
Excellent location for walking around Paris-only two blocks from the Siene River, Museums, Latin Quarter, Jardin Luxembourg, the first day we walked almost 12 miles! Worth the visit!
