Where to Stay in Paris (Updated 2025)

"I stayed near Notre-Dame and the Sorbonne and liked that Hôtel Minerve is housed in a historic 1864 Haussmannian building with exposed stone walls, visible wood beams, and original artwork; the refurbished rooms are small but comfortable with AC and free Wi‑Fi, the bathrooms are pristine with rainfall showers and excellent water pressure, and the breakfast is delicious." - Matthew Kepnes

The 8 Best Hotels in Paris (Updated 2025)

"Located near Notre Dame and the Sorbonne in a historic 1864 Haussmannian building with flowered balconies, I appreciate the hotel's exposed stone walls, visible wood beams, and original artwork. The recently refurbished rooms are small but comfortable and include a flatscreen TV, desk, AC, and free Wi‑Fi; bathrooms are pristine with rainfall showers and excellent water pressure. The hotel is on a quieter street and is well soundproofed, and I really like the excellent (paid) breakfast each morning with lots of cheese, meats, and fresh fruit—it's my top budget pick for travelers who want an affordable alternative to hostels." - Matthew Kepnes

Google
I read many reviews, then chose this hotel for its excellent location and quiet atmosphere. It did not disappoint. The staff were exceptionally kind and helpful, offering great recommendations throughout my stay. Our room was comfortable, with convenient amenities including a safe, closet and couch. The bathroom was nice with windows that opened onto the interior courtyard. I also asked about wheelchair accessibility for future visits with disabled family and was impressed when they showed me a beautiful first-floor room designed for easy access. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking a peaceful and welcoming stay in Paris!

Google
This hotel being at a prime Parisian neighbourhood in Latin Quarters will keep reminding you of that when you'll find you're able to almost cover the major attractions by foot. Courteous staffs, clean rooms top will top your experience off. I was expecting room service but probably that's not a Paris thing in all hotels. But trust me that will not undermine your stay here in anyways. You'll LOVE IT!

Google
Good location for public transport (bus and metro), food that serves til 2am and for some attractions like Notre Dame and the Pantheon. The hotel is very clean, with comfortable bed and pillows though room is typically small as well as the bathroom. The shower area is a bit small as well as their elevator, so be prepared for that. They don’t provide bottled water so the option is to take from the tap, boil water, buy in their vending machine or at the nearby supermarket. All the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Will consider to stay here again when in Paris

Staff are very helpful and friendly. The rooms are fine for a short stay with a single carry-on bag. But there is mot much room, except for the bed in the room space. The shower/toilet room is too small even to contain the simk, whicih is outside the door of the bathroom. Close to Sorbonne University, which means you have to walk westward to get to better dining experiences.

The Monsieur who was working at the front desk on the morning and afternoon of August 3 was very welcoming, hospitable, and sincere. His professional reception gave us a great impression of Paris. We would also like to thank him for the restaurant recommendation.||In addition, the hotel's location is very close to the metro and bus stations, making it easy to go wherever you want. There are some supermarkets and different types of restaurants surrounding the hotel, so if you’re tired after a whole day of sightseeing, you can relax near the hotel. You should definitely choose Hotel Minerve as your accommodation in Paris.

Hotel Minerve staff are all friendly and accomodating. Room is clean though there is no refrigerator and shower area is a bit small. Location is very convenient when taking public transport. Many restaurants nearby even late at night. Many convenience store nearby as well. Notre Dame and Panthenon are walking distance.

Google
Great location. Rooms were clean and had good view over the city. Quirky room with exposed beams and dormer window balcony. Good value for money considering last minute booking.

Google
There was nothing negative except the air conditioning in our room broke down on the hottest day in Paris. The location is good, the staff is friendly and ready to help, the hotel is nice. We thank you for your service and attention, I hope we will not experience a similar air conditioning misfortune if we come again.

Yelp
The hotel is clean and functional. The room was like that of any modest hotel in Paris, small and cramped. The light was poor because they were tiny high-intensity lights that don't illuminate more than a spot. The mirror over the wash basin had so little illumination that I couldn't see to do my hair or put on lipstick. The people who worked there were consistently pleasant and helpful. The location is superb. There are small cafes and good restaurants all in the same block. I loved the noise. That's Paris!

Yelp
Everything was superb. The room was beautifully renovated, sensible compact design, with nice size shower and large comfortable bed. Lovely views of tree lined streets with gorgeous buildings. All the staff, from the reception to the housekeeping to the wonderful breakfast buffet, excellent!

Yelp
Friendly staff, great location and clean room. Nothing terrible and nothing special about this hotel, it's average for Paris. Be sure to bring earplugs because it is very loud at all times with street noise, doors slamming, maids cleaning, etc. Be prepared with earplugs for a good nights sleep.

Yelp
We, like other people in the reviews, had an unpleasant experience with the night manager when we checked in. He literally snapped at us when we entered "what do you want??" Well, some hospitality for a start!! The woman we encountered in the morning was much friendlier and normal. As were the lovely staff in the breakfast room. We liked the street view from our room. And the room was clean with a comfortable bed. However there is no room for bags and the bathroom is minuscule, with shower designed such that it is impossible not to wet the whole floor. Its a great location and a charming building which has obviously had an upgrade since some of these earlier reviews.

Yelp
It is a wonderful hotel in a great location. The facilities are very charming. The wifi is excellent. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The price is quite reasonable. There are many cafes and stores nearby and numerous Metro lines. It is a great choice.

Yelp
hotel com boa localizacao no coração do Quartier Latin. problemas: quarto escuro, pressão do chuveiro fraca e internet Wi-Fi praticamente inexistente. Nao vale a pena pelo preço q se se cobra.

Yelp
Room had no view despite being given an upgrade. We were given a terrace but it looked on to another room and had very high walls surrounding it. The doors to the terrace didnt lock which is a security issue. The bathroom is just a piece of glass between you and the room, no lock on the bathroom door, it offers no privacy. There are no tea or coffee making facilities in the room. No complimentary waters. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are very clean. The breakfast is limited. On our first day, the reception staff had 2 rows on 2 separate occasions with clients... however they were nice to us... the hotel is in a gorgeous location.

Yelp
I would recommend this hotel to anyone planning to visit Paris for a weekend break as a couple. It's located in the Latin quarter, close to many great restaurants and bars. We had an issue with our air con not working, but the hotel staff addressed the problem (although worth noting they can't switch on air con in winter, only in summer, which is strange, but they can only control it for the entire building, you can't control individual rooms, something they will improve in the future, I hope). Also, there's no tea or coffee in the room. Shower's water pressure was really weak and toiletries provided weren't great (I can't use cheap shower gel+shampoo combos because I dye my hair). On the plus side, we had a balcony and the view was really nice. Overall, we had a pleasant stay.

Yelp
Avoid at all costs. Total bait-and-switch scam, and the owner screams obscenities when you catch on to it. There are numerous complaints on other web sites about their scam, and how often it happens. They have a pattern of ripping people off. Sadly, they bully many people into paying for something they never get. Here's the deal: they'll take your credit card info, send you an email confirming your upgraded room, and then rent it to another guest as they're checking in as 'a suddenly available upgrade' they charge more for. Then, they expect you to pay the upgraded price for the room you won't be getting. The deluxe balcony room with the view of Notre Dame that we paid for 2 months in advance wasn't available on check in, and wouldn't be for the week. We got a dank, dirty standard room, with a dripping faucet, peeling wall paper, no working electrical sockets, and a tiny window that looked out on a grimy wall and into other rooms. This wasn't what we had in mind, so we told the front desk we'd be staying one night. Checking out in the morning the owner was furious we were leaving. He waved off the printed email we had from them confirming the room number, rate and dates we'd be there. The owner insisted that the confirmation we had was not guarantee. Then he tried to charge us for 2 days at the premium rate, even though, by law, rates are posted behind the bell desk and it was clear he was overcharging us. When my husband calmly refused to be gouged, the owner, Eric, stood in a lobby full of guests and employees and screamed that he was a ---- and a -----, oh and a @#!!!. It came down to my husband quietly asking the owner to call the police to sort this out. That's when the owner really lost it and went into a rage. After another barrage of vulgarity (with the entire restaurant and lobby agape) he repeatedly told us to leave his hotel and never return. We had a good laugh in the taxi ride to the new hotel. The one with nice, clean rooms, a view of the Eiffel Tower, great service and a hallway that didn't stink of urine---all for 30 Euros less per night. AFTERWARD CAUTION: 2 weeks later they actually tried to charge us for yet another night because we cancelled in person, and not through email. What scammers.

Yelp
Fabulous stay! The desk clerks were extremely helpful with taxis and other trip issues we had especially when the train strike came about. Quaint hotel with lots of charm. Good basic European breakfast for 9€.

Yelp
AVOID THIS PLACE, EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL And unfriendly service. The night manager was rude, unfriendly and racist. Every time that we asked him something he replied with an attitude. The last night day we politely asked him if he could printed the train tickets because we were unable to do it. With a nasty attitude, he told us first to send an email to see if he could printed, when we asked him what was the email he replied "look for it", at this point I was extremely annoyed, he also told us to moved out of the counter cause he was "so busy", when my brother told him that his email was in Spanish he was like "you know what I'm very busy, move out of the counter I'm not printing".... Excuse me but are you serious?? You can't help your guests?? When I asked to speak for a manager he said "l'm the manager", I'm like may I have your name cause a want to write a formal complaint, he refused after many times he replied laughing "call me Paul". I have traveled all over the world and I have never been treated like this ever!!! What kind of people you have running this place!!! I had a reservation for my way back so I canceled right away. Avoid this place, they have no clue what hospitality means....

Yelp
Great hotel. Staff was very friendly and you can't beat the location. The rooms are on the small side but this is very typical for reasonably priced hotels in Paris. I love the touch of free delicious candy at the reception area. Merci beaucoup.

Yelp
Nice Hotel, quiet , friendly staff. It is near Notre Dame, so you are in the inner city and what we really liked : the train (RER B) does get you to notre Dame in 45 minutes. and from there you'll can walk to the hotel in around 10 minutes.

Yelp
The staff were very helpful at reception. The room was basic and a little shabby but very comfortable. No kettle or coffee maker but machine in lobby for coffee. Cleaned regularly. A little way out of main city but nice walk. Good value for money for what you get.

Yelp
After months of researching hotels for our Paris trip, we found the Hotel Minerve in our Lonely Planet guide for the Latin Quarter. We knew it was a small hotel on a semi-busy street but wanted charm, a good jumping off place for adventures. Located only a few blocks from Notre Dame, this lovely hotel had an excellent staff well educated on local sites, transportation and thier recommendation of a few places to eat were right on. The lobby is small, victorian like, and the owner keeps old books everywhere for visitors. Internet service was available (darn those Euro keypads!) Our room was on the 5th floor, usual tiny elevator could not fit two of us with luggage (ah the charm!) so we hoofed the spiral staircase to our floor. The hallways are full of impressive tapestries and oil paintings, clean, and an interior courtyard was painted with cool brigh cloud designs. Our room? Real tiny, the almost queen size bed was 70% of the room, the shower barely fit one person.Yet, we had a marvelous balcony with great city and street views with two chairs, table, perfect for drinking and card games every night. We tried the buffet breakfast the first day, it was pretty lame so we skipped this all week and found a bakery across the street-thick coffee, chocolate crossiants, they barely made it back to the room. Overall, good service, clean rooms, although a bit worn, but lovely oil paintings adorned the walls, TV, hair dryer, and we did not short out any electrical devices. Excellent location for walking around Paris-only two blocks from the Siene River, Museums, Latin Quarter, Jardin Luxembourg, the first day we walked almost 12 miles! Worth the visit!

Yelp
Great location!!! The charm of this place can't be overstated. The rooms are quite cozy, best to upgrade if you are staying more than a night or two. The beds were very comfortable. There is a locked luggage storage area to store excess baggage and the rooms have built in closets which is nice. Water pressure in the shower was good - the bathroom in the upgraded rooms are spacious enough however the bathroom in the standard double is quite small (we were in a standard double our first night). The staff was pleasant and helpful (with one exception). The breakfast was unremarkable but its Paris and there is boulangerie across the street. FYI - there is no air conditioning despite what the website says. We stayed during an unusually hot spell and when I told the front desk that our thermostat didn't turn on the air conditioning the front desk informed us that the hotel didn't have air conditioning. As we were in a larger room facing the street, opening the windows was sufficient to keep the room tolerable during the night however, on our first night, we were in a smaller room that faced the back courtyard and it would have been unbearable had we not upgraded. There is a lot of street noise with the windows open, the neighborhood is quite social late into the evening, so bring ear plugs if you can't sleep with city noise.
