The 14 Best 4-Star Hotels in Paris - AFAR

"A 50-room, literature-inspired property that channels The Count of Monte Cristo with a cabinet-of-curiosities aesthetic—exotic stuffed birds, an apothecary-style reception desk and globally sourced objets d’art—and offers immersive themed suites (for example, the Haydée junior suite referencing Ottoman motifs). Extensive renovations before its 2018 opening added two floors and created an underground 55-foot pool and sauna; Bar 1802 evokes a tropical rum bar atmosphere and is noted as one of France’s largest rum bars with rare bottles, while upper-floor boudoir rooms provide private balconies overlooking rooftops and close walking access to rue Mouffetard and other Latin Quarter attractions." - Mary Winston Nicklin

Hotel Monte Cristo | Best places to stay in Paris

"From this intimate, literary-themed Latin Quarter hotel, it’s easy walking distance to all the big sites, including the Pantheon, the Luxembourg gardens and the Jardin des Plantes botanical garden and zoo. The gorgeous, 19th-century inspired decor makes a chic and cosy setting for some post-sightseeing relaxation – as does the 15m swimming pool (a rarity in Paris) and sauna. Service is discreet and with a smile. Add to that the copious breakfast of home-made pastries, the innovative restaurant and rum-focused cocktail bar (with over 700 rums), and you’ve got yourself a charming hotel for couples and (small) groups of friends alike. This was our 2nd stay at the Hotel Monte Cristo and it was absolutely outstanding. The staff at the front desk were so helpful and accommodating and the rum bar is fabulous. The location is perfect for all the sites but also away from the ultra tourist areas so it is very quiet at night. Swimming pool and sauna…the list goes on. Thank you for making our stay even better than our last. We will always return to this hotel!

With over 30 years in hospitality across 6 countries and 3 continents...Monte Cristo was awesome. Boutique style hotel that has early 19th century vibes, not sterile like large name branded options. Rooms decor was awesome. Breakfast was good option, but the bar it is served in is top notch vintage look. Guest service very positive. And great location with 30 mins to Notre Dame and catacombs. And 5 mins to heart of Latin Quarter.

Great hotel in a really lovely neighbourhood. Actual feels like you're staying in a real area rather than a tourist trap. Some great shops/bars/restaurants on your doorstep. Pool, rooms, staff, breakfast all great (just get a better coffee machine pls). Bar very special and (for what we paid), terrific value for money. Recommended

I 100000% recommend Hotel Monte Cristo. The people who work here are so friendly and so helpful! The room was very clean. You need to go to the Rum Bar. It was amazing! Super cool the way they introduced the drink menu. You'll just need to visit to get that experience personally. The restaurant across the street called Le Grand Dictionnaire was beyond phenomenal. Chef Khelil Morin cooked us the best food we've ever had. He was also so interactive with his customers. Decently priced too. Book that reservation!!!!

We stayed at The monte Cristo hotel for 4 nights we loved all the decor its very much a boutique hotel. The entrance lobby is very inviting and the reception staff were all very smart, helpful and friendly. ||Our room 106 was on the first floor facing the road, it was quite small for a superior room but probably what is usual for Paris, lovely large bathroom with great walk in shower. Lovely toiletries ❤️.||The breakfast is offered in the Bar area, super relaxing buffet style, lots of choice, good quality, always offered coffee straight away and again really pleasant staff. ||The Bar at night was fabulous to return to for a nightcap, specialising in Rum’s, my husband was happy.||We did visit the pool but not anywhere to sit and relax, the two wicker uncomfortable looking beds were taken, so we did a few lengths and returned to our room. ||Location wise this hotel is perfect in the Latin quarter which has more of a village feel plenty of bars, restaurants and coffee houses. It was great after a heavy day sightseeing to be able to stay local, small square near with a great vibe in the evening. 5 mins to metro, 25 min walk Notre Dame, 10 min walk to Pantheon. We would definitely return to this hotel

Google
Hotel Monte Carlo in Paris has some nice qualities, but overall I felt it didn’t live up to the price point. Check-in was smooth and the front desk staff were friendly and efficient. The location is definitely a plus—very close to a metro line and easy access to the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, and even Disneyland Paris. The room itself was small (which is expected in Paris), but well-decorated and clean. The bathroom setup was strange—the shower and sink were on one side of the room, while the toilet was in a separate, unconnected space. A bit inconvenient. The TV is another issue: it’s advertised as a smart TV, but all smart features are disabled, so you can’t stream anything from your phone. There was a small welcome chocolate and pastry, which was a nice touch, but the in-room cocktail—an “earthy Negroni” priced at €21—was undrinkable. If I could go back in time, I’d avoid it entirely. On the bright side, the bed and linens were comfortable, and the provided toiletries were quite nice. In the end, while there are some thoughtful details and the location is great, the overall experience didn’t match the cost. I expected more for what we paid.

Stayed here for 4 nights & a really lovely hotel.||Gorgeous bedroom, beautiful bathroom (I now want to copy it in my own home!), AC very efficient and quiet.|Slept very well, bed very comfortable.|Decoration a great mix of modern and traditional French.|Only minor issue was it was difficult to read at night as the large bedside French nightshade didn't give off any light and they blocked the wall mounted reading lights (this was the case in Room 203, might not be an issue in other bedrooms)||The swimming pool was great, only 4 people allowed as its narrow but long. I managed 35 lengths but was mostly on my own in there.||Breakfast was amazing, all the food was of a high standard. They even serve smoked salmon! Waitresses serve you cappuccinos, lovely fruits, pastries & breads. I thought the yoghurt was quite sour which was a shame as the granola was lovely ||Reception staff were very helpful and pleasant. We had a problem with an uber as we were leaving fir the train station and the lady receptionist kindly liaised with him in French on our behalf then ordered us a taxi instead and we made our train on time.||Would definitely return to this hotel and recommend to anyone, 5 stars!

My 9-yr old daughter and I loved this hotel. Room was clean, quiet and well appointed, bed and sheets were quite comfortable and the black-out curtains are pretty much the best thing ever (I am planning to get some as soon as we get home). She loved swimming in the pool every night after all that walking. Surounding neighborhood is very nice and full of cafes, boulangeries and shops and I'm so glad we had time to explore them. Bus 47 was a life-saver that took us to many of the places we were going to and then back, but there are other buses and metro stops nearby, as well as the RER to Charles de Gaulle & Gare du Nord. We will definitely stay here again next time our travels bring us to Paris!

Yelp
Great environment and staff was helpful. Room took a lot longer than expected to check-in but outside of that the breakfast was awesome and I had a good experience.

Yelp
The staff was incredible! They were always ready to advise if anything special was happening in the neighborhood (as well as anything you might wish to avoid). When asked for special room allocations for other members of our family they were very courteous & discreet about the requests ;) The rooms are heavenly, super comfortable & quiet. After a full day of walking many miles you can soothe your aches & ails away in their downstairs sauna and pool. Honestly, the only thing that would make this experience even better would be the addition of a jacuzzi hot tub next to the pool. This hotel is perfectly located if you want to be in the middle of 'the everything', but just tucked away enough from the immediate action.
