"Recommended by a reader as a place to stay in Cartagena's Old Town, this small, 32-room property is well situated for exploring the city's UNESCO-protected historic center and its ancient churches." - Samantha Falewée Samantha Falewée Samantha Falewée is an associate editor for Travel + Leisure, interested in adventure and culinary travel, Indigenous culture, and wildlife conservation. Movich Hotel Cartagena de Indias (Cartagena, Colombia) 1 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"At a glance Cartagena could easily be mistaken for another of the many picturesque Colonial cities in Latin America, and indeed its narrow cobblestone streets, its sun-dappled public squares, its church steeples towering over the old walled city are all a deep part of its appeal. But what really sets Cartagena apart is how, despite all postcard-perfect backdrops, it never quite feels like a parody of its former self. There’s an easy self-confidence about the place, a confidence that’s perfectly embodied by the Movich Hotel. Step inside, behind its traditional whitewashed façade, and the hotel is as contemporary as can be, all sleek modern lines and sunny, open spaces." - Tablet Hotels

Review of Hotel Movich Cartagena I recently hosted my wedding reception at the Movich rooftop, and while the venue itself is absolutely stunning, my overall experience was mixed due to significant issues with communication during the planning process. I live in the United States and worked directly with Genny Mendoza in reservations. We spoke multiple times over the phone to arrange a room block for my wedding guests. I believed everything had been finalized, but later learned from my guests that the hotel was showing as fully booked for my wedding dates. When I contacted Genny, I was told that an event scheduled the day before mine had sold out all the rooms. This was extremely frustrating, as securing rooms for my guests was a major part of our wedding plans, and staying at the hotel came with several benefits, such as extending the rooftop to 2 a.m., receiving my room at no charge, a couple’s massage, room decoration, and more. Because of the lack of communication, many of my guests had to stay at different hotels. I also personally booked two rooms through Genny and specifically requested that they be next to each other so my parents could help with my children. When we arrived, we were told the rooms had been placed on different floors and that nothing could be done because the hotel was fully booked. This added unnecessary stress during a weekend that should have been seamless. In the end, I had to speak directly with the manager just to secure the only benefits we could still receive, the ability to keep the rooftop open until 2 a.m. and an additional room for my bridesmaids to get ready. These were helpful accommodations, but they were things we had originally been promised as part of our stay. On a positive note, the staff at the property were wonderful, kind, helpful, and attentive. My room was clean and comfortable. I stayed on the sixth floor; while the view was lovely, you can hear noise from the rooftop, such as chairs moving and music. Despite the challenges, the Movich rooftop is truly breathtaking. The venue itself is gorgeous and made for an unforgettable wedding reception. If you decide to host an event here, I strongly recommend getting every detail in writing to avoid any miscommunication.

We had a fine stay but I wouldn't classify the hotel as 5-star. More like 4. In our first room one window wouldn't stay closed and there was water on the floor from condensation. The second room also had ill-fitting windows. Thankfully, street noise was minimal. But the constant inflow of humidity means the AC runs non-stop and water drips from the AC vent, plus the bathroom has no vent so air circulation is an issue. The room furnishings are not impressive. The gym has a few antiquated cardio machines (two treadmills and one stepper) and a small number of dumbbells. The rooftop pool and bar are beautiful but the music level mimics a rock concert so you don't actually want to stay long. At the rooftop bar at dinner there were many staff but no one moving themselves to actually provide service. At breakfast it was also difficult to get the servers' attention though that improved after the first day. My pancakes were completely burnt on one side at our first breakfast. The huevos criollos were very good, however. The hotel rooms were quiet. The bathrooms are large but the bedroom felt cramped.

Our family of four spent a week in Cartagena and the Movich hotel was our luxurious respite from the heat and fracas! The rooftop pool with a breathtaking view of the gorgeous historic walled city was amazing. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The beds are comfortable, shower was spacious and always the right temperature. The gym was useful for an early morning workout and the free breakfast just put that pampered feeling over the top. (Sandra was the best!) highly recommend!

Fabulous hotel - we loved our stay here - rooms are beautiful spacious and airy, comforts and amenities are all modern and in excellent condition, staff super helpful at reception and our charming breakfast waitress Sandra. Breakfasts are delicious. Step out into the vibrant beautiful heart of historic Cartagena. A great choice.

Beautiful boutique hotel. Location was great. A 5-15 minute walk to most anything within the wall. Great bars and restaurants nearby. Staff was amazing, super attentive and friendly. Breakfast was delicious with many options to choose from. The room was spacious and had an awesome A/C….a welcome after walking around in the heat & humidity all day.

This was a perfect location - right in the heart of the the old city. The rooftop pool was spectacular and a great place to unwind after sightseeing. The staff were kind, attentive and knowledgeable. The food was delicious and the coffee and water in the lobby was a lovely touch. I would happily come back.

The rooftop has an amazing view and a really nice vibe, but the service needs improvement. I went around 2 PM and we were the only guests, yet the staff wasn’t attentive at all. It took a while to get noticed even though the place was empty. Would come back for the view, but I hope the service gets better.

This gem of a hotel is wonderful. It is beautiful and kept in great shape! We hosted a white party for a wedding on the rooftop. The staff were so attentive and nice. The food was spectacular and so fresh. The roof top had a fabulous pool. We had ample seating options. My room was 5 Star. The ambiance was peaceful and tropical. Just made our stay amazing. Each morning we had breakfast with fresh fruit, fresh fruit juices and the fresh baked bread was fit for a king. Again I need to emphasize how wonderful and kind the staff were. I would definitely stay here again!
