The 11 Best Beach Towns in the South of France for Foodies

"For front-row sea views and tumble-out-of-bed beach access, this unpretentious, arty hotel lines its spaces with original vintage posters and lithographs and even features a Jean Cocteau rooftop suite." - Lanie Goodman

The only good feature of this hotel is its friendly staff. The list of bad things about this hotel is long. The walls are so thin that if someone's 2 rooms over you can hear them coming and going, and if someone's in the next room you can hear the person in the room having a phone conversation and the person on the other end of the phone. A slamming door in the night rattled my bed. The wifi is completely unusable. I would open a website, and it would error out before loading because the wifi was so slow. I was there for work and would have to leave the premises to have enough internet to do my job. They put hand soap in the shower instead of body wash. There are light switches on the base of the sconces next to the bed. Those don't work, and the real light switches are hidden on the power outlet. One window was about 8 inches taller than the other, but the blinds were the same length. One window had 8 inches on the bottom not covered by the blinds. When I was telling my friends about the experience, I described it as "comically bad." It is not humanly possible to recommend against this hotel enough.

Great location, only a short walk to be in the heart of memphis. Hotel staff all friendly and the restaurant to the side is fantastic for breakfast if you choose B+B. Rooms are comfortable with everything you need, and quiet.

Positive: The staff was nice and responsive. Negative: The sheets were not smooth and crisp. The room itself was nice. I liked the bathroom and shower. Lots of external light and okay view from my room.

Hotel was nice and in a good location. Was initially very excited about the stay. But when I went to check in 30 minutes after checkin time, multiple families were waiting for their room to be ready. They gave me my room but it was in bad shape. The refrigerator was clearly broken, the shower had no shower curtain or door, there were multiple cracks in the walls and flooring that weren’t taken care of. They gave me another room after I requested it, which was in better shape. But I had to wait for it to be cleaned. After that, They didn’t really clean my room over my 4 days there and they were out of coffee for the rooms as well. It’s not a terrible option for the price and location, but the day to day service was rough.

First I booked this o the night of our arrival through Booking.com and received the room rate at a deep discount. We paid less than $20 for parking next door which was next to but unattached to the boutique hotel. We wanted to try it out bcz it stated it was a 4 star historic hotel. We parked and walked to the hotel with no luggage hoping to grab a language cart. All doors to the hotel were locked. It was 7:30pm! No one was at the front desk and the phone number given online was a non working number. Mind you my debit card was already charged for the room, that I had booked less than 2 hours prior to arrival. We were approached by several homeless men as we tried to get into any hotel main floor entrance. All doors were locked. Cafe/bar was closed at 7:30 on. A Saturday summer evening on prior to Labor Day. People were riding their bikes and skateboards in and out off the parking garage which is not secure from public walking in and out next to the parking garage gates but has locks and difficult pay through apps and then call in your code to be able to open the pedestrian doors and car gates. Felt very unsafe to leave car there. High violent crime rate along with thefts and mugging are also rampant in the area. Found this out afterwards. We had wanted to tour Beale St but by the time we got into the hotel and our things in our room it was 10pm and we had to leave early the next day to continue on my business trip. My husband and I didn’t feel safe to go out in the local area at night with our experiences just trying to get inside the hotel. ||Once we were in the facade is beautiful. Service not so good. Room was clean and pretty but very small. Small dorm style frig (no freezer space) was not turned on and would not be cold by the time we left so we asked to change rooms. Also bathroom tile cracked and one set of robes and slippers missing from room. We were given another room unpin our insistence bcz at first the front desk guy who finally returned to front desk and unlocked front door to let us in told us the frig would be cold in a few minutes. Ummmm no that’s not how they work, so he changed out room and room was nicer though still small, no broken tile but zero robes and slippers in the room this time.no worries but it was supposed to be there and advertised as part of the whole 4 star experience. Room is furnished nicely and very modern. Super small. I asked about historical hotel details. It was never a historical hotel. At all. It is a remodeled 10 year old hotel in a historical print shop building. The entire inside is modern and supposedly done in a French style, but not really. Cafe and bar closed. No one on site except one Indian man at front desk who couldn’t speak good English nor spell. I asked him to change my email after I wrote it out for him so that it was correct for my receipt. He didn’t want to be bothered and refused to correct it. Just completely misadvertised and I wished I had paid the extra $30 to stay at The Peabody which is an actual historical hotel nearby. Beds were nice and we slept well once we got settled into the room. Cost wasn’t an issue as much as the misadvertising, poor service and safety issues outside a locked unstaffed hotel in what turned out to be a crime ridden part of town. Not the same place from when I visited this same street 30 years ago and had a fantastic time back then. Sadly Not recommended at this time. Hopefully some of these issues will be addressed for a better future experience.

I recently stayed at Hotel Napoleon, and what a wonderful experience it was! The property is truly stunning…every detail, from the elegant decor to the immaculate cleanliness and spacious rooms. A standout highlight of our stay was the front desk receptionist, Tim. He was not only incredibly friendly and professional, but he also got us checked in swiftly, exactly what we needed after a long day of travel. His warm demeanor and efficiency set a welcoming tone immediately, and his thoughtful service made us feel like valued guests. I’ll definitely be returning!

Google
The room was clean and nice. It’s located near the best spots. The negative was The on site restaurant / bar hosted a private event the night we got in and was therefore closed the entirety of the weekend. Went to grab what they were offering for breakfast, it was mini muffins with a gnat or two trapped in the container, lemon water and coffee. We opted to brave the storm to go to a nearby restaurant. The decor in the lobby is gorgeous.

Google
Positive: The beds were comfortable. Negative: There were homeless everywhere surrounding the area, we did not feel safe coming or leaving the hotel. We did not see a single staff member other than at check in. The elevator was clearly in disrepair with a lot of noise and made my family uncomfortable.

Yelp
I opted to stay at the Hotel Napoleon with my husband while being tourists in Memphis for a long weekend. I chose this hotel mostly due to its central location to Beale Street. Besides the superb location, I was disappointed with my stay overall. The cleanliness was questionable in common areas as well as the floors and closet/desk area of the room. The common areas also had a very heavy perfume fragrance that was overpowering. The walls were paper thin, so we could hear our neighbors all night, every night. The bed was average comfiness, but with only 3 pillows for a King size bed we had to request more. We actually requested an additional 4 pillows, which my husband had to go to the front desk to retrieve since there was no room service available, and all the pillows were flat and lumpy. Finally, housekeeping did not come by our room on the 2nd day which was disappointing after a long day of sightseeing. For the price, I wish I had just spent a little more and stayed at a hotel in the area that actually had high quality amenities and service.

Yelp
I want to start by saying that the staff were AMAZING. We interacted primarily with Monte and Sai and they were always so kind, friendly, and helpful. The staff are the stars of this hotel. The location is good and there is a parking garage directly next door that allows 24 hour in/out access for $17/day which was convenient. The hotel was finishing up renovations in their lobby and their restaurant. The lobby looked nice and what I saw of the restaurant/bar area compared to photos online, it's a great improvement. Since the restaurant was finishing up renovations, it was not open which was inconvenient when we needed a quick breakfast. It's understandable, but this fact was not noted on the website. The website did mention that there were renovations, but did not clarify that the restaurant was not open. After checking in and getting to our room, we received a text message saying to text or call the front desk with any questions. I did have a question so I replied to the text message but got no answer. I tried using the room phone to call the front desk and it didn't work either. Had to call the hotel with my personal phone. The bathrooms have the dreaded barn doors. You know the ones, they close but still don't really offer any privacy as they don't block noise at all and there always seems to be a crack of viewing area on one side or the other of the door. The biggest issue with the barn door in our room was that, when you closed it, it came off the track at the base. You would then have to work on it awhile to get it lined back up so you could get back out. This was annoying and a little more difficult for my elderly mother to manage. I get ice daily to fill my re-useable water bottles I travel with. Each floor has an ice machine, but the one on our floor was broken so I had to go to another floor every day. I did notice too that there was no door on the ice machine/vending area and there were rooms directly across from them. I would think it would be noisy in those rooms when someone is getting ice. When we returned to our room at the end of our first day of sight seeing, neither of our key cards worked. The person at the front desk was unable to fix the issue despite trying. It seems only one of the employees knew how to fix the issue and he wasn't in yet. We had to wait in the lobby until he arrived to fix the key/door issue. Sai hooked us up with free water bottles and snacks from the selection they had while we waited. On our last night, Mom wanted to watch Monday night football. We could not get the TV to work. Sai had to come to our room and work on it and was finally able to get it going. Even then, the remote was awful and hard to use, and the image on the screen was too large for the screen with all the perimeter being cropped out. We had issues getting the thermostat to regulate as well. It was either hot or cold. If you messed with the thermostat, it seemed to make the situation worse. The hotel is non-smoking but there was a cigarette burn on the table in between our beds. On our last day there, the automatic doors to the lobby weren't working and you had to stand there until the front desk opened the door for you. Overall, this hotel just had lots of little issues that added up making the visit annoying. The staff are the redeeming qualities of this hotel.

Yelp
We arrived a little early and waited in the lobby till we were able to check in. Location is convenient to many(Parking garage next door is convenient. Fee is $17 per 24 hours plus $1 service charge. Call the number on the booth and you can enter and exit). The hotel currently doesn't have any dining options but are selling snacks and drinks by the counter. There are vending machines by the ice machine on the 5th floor. Hotel clerks are very pleasant. I didn't hear much noise from any other guests in the hallway but was able to hear traffic and street arguments late at night from the top floor. Room and bathroom was clean. Bed was decent. The ac works very well. We walked quite a bit as we were able to. I would recommend.

Yelp
I had really high hopes for this hotel. However, service levels were nonexistant lI had looked like a sausage patty in a very large hard bun and it was not good at all. The walls in our hall were stained and the carpets looked dirty. The room was very nice with little to worry about. If this hotel is going to charge prices similar to The Peabody then it needs to provide the same service levels. I would recommend The Peabody over this hotel.

Dennis M.

Yelp
This could be a really nice hotel however it is run on a shoe string budget (and unfortunately it shows). You pay more than a fair amount for the room, and everything they stock in the room is well below standard for the rate they charge. When you ask to have items replenished, they act like they are doing you a big favor. No one is checking the quality of the room to ensure it meets the room rate standard! Some examples are broken iron, leg broken on a piece of furniture, etc. Not worth the money spent! And some days your room doesn't even get cleaned.

Yelp
I come to Memphis for work probably 3 times a quarter and love trying the hotels downtown. This one has potential, it's actually nice aside from my room was subpar to say the least. I got in late and my bf I were exhausted from traveling & going to the game so I just sucked it up for 2 days, but the room smelled like smoke. The floor says non smoking but the room definitely had a smoke odor too it. Then walls looked beat up. Like someone had been fighting and they just didn't care to fix it completely. Cleaning was subpar but half down. Probably won't be back to this one.

Mark G.

Yelp
Huge shoutout to Rocky. 2nd time staying here and he was the front desk host both times. Decided to stay here over the Peabody mostly because of Rocky. The rooms are extremely clean and it's a great location if you want to catch a Grizzlies game.

Harlan W.

Yelp
We started out shaky checking in. Assigned room 424, the air conditioning did not work. To front desk's Sandeep's credit, no joy. No maintenance personnel available at 09:30 pm either. So, after fumbling for an hour of this, how about a different room? Apparently as luck would have it, the hotel's sold out. Ah... Sandeep speaks with Monte the manager who's at home. Miraculously, a room becomes available?! Yay! Better yet with working room a/c in Memphis' spring heat coming in bloom. Now I'm happy. For all this trouble though I did ask for a price adjustment on the room stay. He did offer and I accepted $75.00 off of a one night stay of about $250.00. A Lavazza coffee and an $8 breakfast bagel sandwich was comp. Now we're talking here. But you must ask! No ticket NO washy as someone had said. I'll give them another shot if back to downtown Memphis.

Yelp
First off the hospitality of this hotel is a 10 out of 10 everyone was so accommodating the room was very clean and the staff was always polite and made sure our stay was 100% I would also like to shout out to Rocky he was awesome I would definitely recommend this hotel Thank you we will be back Memphis

Sonji C.

Yelp
Great service easy check in and check out. Night security in the lobby. Clean room. Walking distance to Beale Street.

Yelp
Will definitely stay here again. Close to Beale street which is what we wanted. Very high ceilings which made the room seem fancy. Good shower and bathroom. The only huge negative is that there is no coffee in lobby which really sucks big time. You are forced to go to the bar and buy a 5 dollar cup of coffee which was only mediocre. The coffee in the room was awful and the second day the maid didn't even leave any. *Please get coffee in the lobby.*

Yelp
Spent the night in Memphis and this hotel popped up s as the deal of the day on Priceline! The hotel is in walking distance to Beale st, Plenty of restaurants, civil rights museum, baseball field. There is secured parking directly next to the hotel. ($10 a night) The hotel staff are super sweet! The rooms are a good size we got a double bed room. Nice vanity mirrors, well lit!!! They have a bar in the lobby just wasn't open due to covid. Soda vending and ice on each floor. Would stay again!

Yelp
I travel a lot for business, and in all places I've visited over the years, I have never stayed at a hotel as dirty or smelly the Napoleon. I'm going to post pictures, but even with the pictures and my review - describing my experience just won't do it justice. You have to experience it for yourself - at first glance it seems like any other boutique hotel. The lobby is cute. The decor trendy. And I have to admit that the bed linens were nice. But that's it. When I walked into the room I discovered a dirty bathroom that smelled of urine, and the room smelled of mildew. There were boogers smeared on the wall above my bed. Nasty stains and graffiti on the furnishings, and something white splashed on the curtains. I found hair and toenails on the floor next to the bed. So you may be asking - why did you stay? Well gentle reader, there was a big conference in town and most of the hotels in the area were at capacity. My discoveries transpired close to bedtime and I was only there for one night. Otherwise, I would've hightailed it out of there and gone elsewhere. The next morning I was greeted by drain flies and mildew in the shower. And the glass shower doors had a filmy layer of soap and dirt. I tell this tale and leave this review because it's important that others are aware. The hotel will most likely respond with some excuses about how it's hard to find good people to clean and that the pandemic created staff shortages. I call bullshit. I've been all over this country - and have stayed in hotels everywhere. This is neglect pure and simple. The dust behind the toilet is laziness, not a lack of staffing. Train the people you have. Create a standard of cleanliness for the rooms. And for god's sake - don't call yourself a 3 or 4-star hotel because you hang a robe and slippers in your old and funky wardrobe.. The Napoleon is clearly a 2-star with a bar. The place is a smelly old pig with lipstick on.

Yelp
I had a really nice stay at the Hotel Napoleon. I was passing through on my way from New Orleans to St. Louis to go home for the holidays when I thought to break up my trip and treat myself to a nice night by myself. The check in process was simple, the staff was very kind and accommodating, and my room was spotless. I just had a standard king room and got a bathrobe and slippers! That was pretty dope and I definitely made the most of that! The bed was comfy enough for one night by myself, can't complain. In the morning, I took full advantage of the in-room kurig, coffee mugs, and coffee. It was fantastic to wake up to the city, sip my coffee, and take in the view. I felt like a princess. All of this for under $100?! Pretty sweet. There were a few cons, however: 1. Parking: The website states that they have valet parking DAILY for an additional cost of $28. I was fine with the price and even planned in it, only to find out upon arrival that they only do parking on WEEKENDS. BE AWARE OF THIS! Because your alternative is street parking. Ultimately, my car and belongings were fine, but as a solo female traveler, I like to plan ahead. If I'd known they didn't offer parking at all on weekdays, I'd have booked a different hotel downtown, to be honest. My stay made it worth it, but I really hate when false info is on the website. 2. Noise. This was personally not a con for me, but other travelers should be aware. This is not a hotel in a quiet area. I, personally, live in a city and found the noise level relaxing and made me feel like I was in my own bed. But, as other reviews state, if you're not used to a city noise level, it might be hard to sleep, and you might want to rethink your accommodations. Things to be aware of: With COVID, the restaurant and bar are not currently open. Wasn't a problem for me, since I was already planning to order from UberEats, but just something to know :)

Yelp
Horrible experience the entire time. Front desk was very pretentious and passive aggressive. I've stayed at more upscale hotels and I've never gotten treated like this. Also, things in the room were not working like lights, bathroom door was about to fall of the hinges. Vending machine took my money and the worst part was valet. I asked for my car and they said since they were about to close (20 minutes before closing) they could take me to the garage but that I would have to walk back. Then why would I pay for valet if I'm gonna be walking to my car anyhow ? I tried to get a refund but management stated that they wouldn't do it. I don't recommend this hotel at all
google avatar

Andrew F.

Yelp
Not accommodating without Rocky there. Check to see if he's going to be around for the dates you are there! Also, coffee machine in lobby is broken. Had to plug in the tv myself. Phone was busy on all lines for concierge, front desk, etc. all night. Sticky hand marks of fluids on wall and headboard. Sticky desk.. Clearly not wiping surfaces during COVID. Half of the staff I saw were either not wearing masks or not correctly wearing masks, even though they have the city ordinance posted throughout the hotel. If you are 2nd floor or below, get ready to enjoy loud motorcycles and cars in your room all night. When I asked to speak to a manager this morning, I was asked "why?" After beginning to explain a few of the issues, I was quickly brushed off. Since I was unable to speak to a manager, I decided to post it here. Beware! Update: 5 days later, have not heard from a manager. Pretty sure I never will.

Vaughn M.

Yelp
Watch what you sign at the desk! - I stayed 2 days and at the end of the day was changed an extra 23 dollars a night for a Beer and Wine fee that you are charged automatically even if you don't drink beer or wind. I think the front desk also said "Cookies are added also" . Make sure you read what form the give you.. they charge you fees for things you dont even use.

Beckett L.

Yelp
The hotel decor and the rooms are great! That is the only reason it has any stars... The staff is almost friendly, they won't resolve issues though and it seems like they are all brand new and have never worked in retail or a related field before. We booked a double deluxe queen corner room but we were not put in a corner room which is disappointing because we have never been to Memphis and wanted to see the great views. We then went down to the lobby after calling to try to resolve it The lady was not helpful at all she argued that we could not be moved to a corner room and that are room was a corner which it was not (it was one over) then we just asked for a refund of the small upcharge that a corner room was and they said they would look into it. We left for dinner at the Rendezvous 10/10 btw would recommend if you are in the area. But came back to receive the silent treatment from the lady that said she would resolve it. There was infused water in the lobby but no cups after we asked for cups they said they were out. We asked if we could get a cup from the bar to which they declined. No big deal just a minor inconvenience. Our room had no hand soap, low batteries on the tv, no laundry bag, and no toiletries. The hotel is beautiful but it kinda feels like it's being wasted with the staff.

Hailey N.

Yelp
The room was fantastic and the service was EVEN BETTER!! My grandmother is handicapped and has a scooter. We brought it up to the room yesterday and when we woke up today for check out, the elevator was down. Two of this hotels amazing employees carried my grandmothers scooter down to the lobby from the FIFTH FLOOR. They were fantastic and SO helpful!!

Yelp
The good... Location, nice new rooms, good location, free water, coffee, nice folks. The bad, our room wouldn't deadbolt and when staff told us it was fixed...It wasn't. Air conditioning unit made annoying loud clicking sounds and when staff tried to fix it ..They didn't. Kept waking us up all night both nights. Ordered breakfast with one worker and a few customers...Waitress disappeared for 20 minutes...Couldn't even find her to tell her we were giving up. A near miss.

Yelp
Room was clean and big and quiet. Cleaning staff was nice. All other service, aside from bartenders (who were friendly but not skilled) was bad. The desk crew and restaurant service was poor and food orders were extremely slow. Seemed understaffed. At times us and others were standing just waiting on a desk clerk to show up. To top it off the valet service they use, Guardian Consiaege, damaged our truck and the hotel staff refused to help in any way and all but said we caused the damage and were trying to pull a fast one. After a $500 for two days stay. To be clear I know the valet is a separate company but a little understanding and help from hotel staff in one of the more expensive hotels in the area would have been nice. Instead was treated to the hotel clerk lecturing the valet as to how we might be trying to pull the wool over their eyes. When called on it he dismissively stated, "Oh not talking about you," complete with eye roll. Not hospitality at its finest. As a follow up... Guardian Consiaege took responsibility to pay for the damage based on the evidence provided. Once complete they get a good review. The hotel staff, however, still treated us like criminals rather than being sympathetic.

Yelp
The hotel was modern and clean. The cool fruit infused water was welcomed each time we returned to the hotel. Memphis is hot during the summer! The staff was super friendly and full of Southern hospitality. The hotel even went as far as sending text to see what they could do to improve our stay. The hotel is in a historic building downtown. If you're here during the Spring/Summer there is a minor league baseball team plays steps from the hotel. Beale Street and other points of interest are within walking distance of the hotel. If I'm ever in Memphis again, most definitely stay here again.
google avatar

Robb K.

Yelp
I so wanted to give this place more stars. Great atmosphere. Staff is difficult and not responsive. We stayed for two nights. No hot water in the morning, I was trying to find out if it was an on going issue or something that just happened. I was provided 40 dollars off my stay, but no explanation. Therefore, my next 5 day stay we book reservations at the Hampton Inn and Suites. Much better and hot water every morning.

Yelp
I booked this hotel on our way into Memphis, it was just for the night, since we we passing thru. It is in the old newspaper printing building, I thought that was a pretty cool thing. It has valet, the lobby is very bright, and checking in was a cinch. The room was spacious and comfortable, very clean. We had breakfast at the restaurant, which was good. I also worked out at the gym, has the basics. I definitely preferred this place to the crown plaza.

Aaliyah G.

Yelp
It looks like such a nice place but once we walked in the customer service was absolutely horrible. My Fathers Boss paid for the trip as a bonus but they guy at the front desk would not let us go in even tho my Father knew all the information that was needed so we waited around to see if we could get a refund and the man said no refunds but we had to pay again for the room even tho we had already paid 200$ . The guy at the desk was absolutely rude and had zero customer service. I WOULD NOT come here again. I recommend no one else to as well. This was almost a 300$ room. I stayed with my family for 3 days and not once did room service come to change our towels or anything. Don't bother spending your money here.

Blake A.

Yelp
Cool vibe and friendly desk staff. However, very thin walls so you can hear - and even smell - other guests. We ended up leaving in the middle of the night due to noise and smoke smells. General manager refused a refund.

Yelp
Nice location, valet parking, very comfortable room and wonderful hotel. Amazing shower and bathrooms with bath ropes and slippers. Bar looks really good and staff were friendly. Is everyone so friendly in Memphis? We loved our stay, even though it was just for one night. Definitely worth coming back to.

Ellie A.

Yelp
No snacks at all and you can hear every word the room next to us said. Cute hotel tho.

Susan F.

Yelp
Pros: price was affordable. The staff was very friendly. The location was great. I had no issues with figuring out parking. Room had nice big windows. Cons: Not all of the staff followed the only 2 person per elevator rule. The walls were extremely thin. The room had a bit of deferred maintenance ( ceiling leak stains etc.) which didn't bother me, but was noticeable. Overall I enjoyed my stay for the amount I paid.

Yelp
**This review is only about their concierge service* My husband was staying at the Hotel Napoleon and I wanted to have a special gift basket surprise for him in his room upon arrival. I called Rocky at the Concierge desk. I told him I wanted some sweet treats, specialty drinks and a love note. After providing my credit card it was up to Rocky to make the magic happen and he did! My husband loved the goodies upon arrival in his room. Wonderful customer service at this hotel.

Yelp
Great hotel. Good atmosphere and excellent room conditions. The only issue I had was parking. You would think that they would at least have a partnership with the garage next door but they do not. You either can park on the street and leave your vehicle vulnerable to anyone, or use their valet services at an additional charge. When I made my reservation through Choice (as I am a rewards member) I was not informed of this and caught completely off guard by this fact. Other than that it's a great hotel.

Yelp
Do not stay here! I booked a room on a NYT recommendation as part of our x-country drive. We decided to splurge for a night in Memphis. I paid $439 for the room. When we checked in I asked if any upgrades were available. I was told indifferently that I had to stay in the room we booked. "That's the room you chose," he said. The room is ridiculous. Two queen beds, both pushed up next to the wall so they can only accommodate one person because the second person would be effectively blocked in. Very few amenities. We turned on the TV to watch the Warriors-Lakers game that was underway and the remote didn't work. It took the technician/security guard 15 minutes to fix it. I went down to the lobby in the morning for some complementary coffee (the room only has the cheap paper-pod coffee maker, the kind my fiancé said is full of salmonella), but the only thing available was a $4 cup of Americano. I bought it reluctantly and asked for it to be put on the room (I was in my shorts and t-shirt) and was told they only accepted cash or card. Big fail.

Yelp
The customer service and friendliness of the staff is above and beyond. We instantly felt like "regulars" and we can't wait to go back to hang out with our new friends. We weren't planning to stay in Memphis, we were just going to stop for dinner. But what can I say? The food at the Blues City Cafe made us want to move there...but our families might miss us. So we quickly booked a room here and drove over. Check-in was quick, valet was super friendly and informative of our options, everyone was abiding by Covid regulations, not to mention the place was SPARKLING clean everywhere we looked. Unfortunately, I left my dang messenger bag with my laptop and papers in the room! I called and Rocky answered the phone and he is now my favorite person in Memphis. He was above and beyond in getting my bag back to me, even talking to me about my shipping options from the UPS store on his personal time. I wasn't able to meet him in person this time but I will be back and will make a point to do so! I highly recommend this hotel, please go and tell Rocky that Jaime & William from St. Louis, MO sent ya!

Yelp
We checked into The Napoleon at around 10pm on a Friday night after a late flight into Memphis... we were just in for the weekend and had booked a suite for our 2 night stay. The first thing everyone should know when booking a suite at The Napoleon in Memphis is that their suites are 1 level BELOW the first floor.... yes, you take the elevator DOWN to get to your SUITE ! Ok, so everything was fine... the room seemed nice... 2 TVs... dresser, mini fridge, large king sized bed, very large walk in shower... everything seemed just fine... 1st issue- The remote for the TV in the bedroom only turned the TV on and off... couldn't change the channels... so we decided to turn in for the night.... no big deal.... 2nd issue- It was about 11:45p... and being at (actually below) ground level... the traffic noise from the street was easily heard ... ohhh and the motorcycles racing up and down the streets can be heard too.... mind you, the windows allow you to see foot traffic on the street... and I do mean foot.... standing in the room, looking out the window you see feet passing by... not to mention the kids standing on the corner wondering loudly, what to do next. 3rd issue- Just about 12:05am... our neighbors in the next suite arrived. This is when the party started for them. At least 4 people.... Loud talking, loud music, trying to yell over the loud music, a broken glass. Trying to ignore this party on the other side of the adjoining wall was difficult. So I went UPSTAIRS to the front desk to request a room change. We were given a room on the top floor which was NOT a suite. Oh, because there are only 2 Suites in this hotel... and they are both downstairs, below street level. So here's an interesting note....I was told that the only compensation I'd receive for taking a lesser room was 2 food vouchers for the hotel restaurant. We are in Memphis for 40 hours... we wanted BBQ. So, NO... I'm not taking food vouchers. Why would it take a nearly 2 days and 4 trips to the front desk, to simply get a bill adjustment which would reflect that I stayed in a regular room, and NOT a Suite. A lot of time wasted, explaining the situation to 3 different people who were unable to authorize a rate change because there are NO managers on duty during the weekend. So.... would I choose this hotel again.... NOPE.... especially when there are plenty of other places to stay....

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here during a business trip. The staff is friendly but the Hotel lacks professional management. The cookies were burnt, noisy air conditioner, maids on personal phone calls and eating in elevator, peeling wallpaper. These can all be ignored but not the dirty stained duvet that the manager was too busy to talk to us about and then said she didn't see it when she checked. Disgusting!

Yelp
Loved the hotel! Great location, very clean rooms, delish breakfast, but best of all were the amazing gents at the front desk, and the entire staff for that matter. Eric & Paul were happy and cheerful, super helpful with places to eat, things to see, and really made the whole experience wonderful. I would for sure recommend this hotel, and can't wait to stay again! Oh, and for the first time EVER, something I left in my hotel room (my reusable water bottle) was found and going to be returned. I'm thrilled! Thanks!

Yelp
The Hotel Napoleon was an ideal place to stay in Memphis. It was within easy walking distance to great music, bars, and food on Beale St. The staff, especially Rocky and Denise, were top notch, polite, and gracious in every way! My boyfriend and I highly recommend staying there!

Yelp
Gracious historic non chain hotel near attractions in city. Parking right next door in parking garage. Food great, rooms clean n charming. Short walk to Beal street, restaurants n other attractions. Rocky (night manager at front desk) was eminently knowledgeable of building, history and entire Memphis current n historic culture/history. Was a delightful stay. We enjoyed staff, building n food.

Yelp
The room was very nice and clean, the employees as well were great and friendly. My only complaints is the noise from the relentless traffic coming from Beal Street. Loud cars and motorcycles revving their engines all night to get attention. Also the air is set where 68 is as low as it go's and as long as it was running it was plenty cool. But while it was kicked off the room would get pretty warm. I probably won't be back to Beal Street, but if I did I'd likely stay here again.

Yelp
Stayed here recently for work and was blown away by the good vibes and the friendly and extremely helpful staff. The location was central enough, allowing us to walk to many of our destinations. The lobby was immaculately maintained and fresh smelling. Hotel decor was beautiful with the right touch of modern yet integrating a perfect blend of history behind the building. Bedding was nice, beds large and comfy, and rooms definitely modern with a hint of originality with the exposed brick wall. Lighting was a little bit on the dark side, but manageable. A great price point, hospitable staff, excellent service and a pleasant staff made this a memorable experience. I'm looking forward to our next stay here and highly recommend to others!

Yelp
My review is based on the downtown storm that many had no power. Hotel Napoleon thank you for being extremely accommodating. Your staff made checking in a breeze and for that I do appreciate very much! In the lobby I enjoyed infused citrus water which was available throughout my stay. Good help can be found and I'd like to acknowledge Rocky. Rocky's customer service was exceptional! He gave a list of nearby eatery in case I wanted to go somewhere within a walk or uber. Along with hotel staff-the valet team worked very hard to get your vehicle when you need it. The valet team is in my opinion outstanding! Those guys and gals are standing out front at a podium stand waiting for you rain or shine :)

Yelp
Not really a luxury hotel but more of a small boutique that tries to be something it isn't. Small gym Rooms are large and bed is comfortable, but the towels and toiletries are below average The shower is amongst the worst I have experienced at a hotel Staff is friendly but service isn't 5 star

Yelp
The first thing I noticed about the hotel is the wonderful location, just steps from historic Beale Street, small clubs and restaurants. The young man working the valet station was welcoming and helpful. As we stepped out of our car we felt a cool breeze from the A/C wafting out into the steamy Memphis afternoon. It carried a fresh, clean scent. The two gentlemen working at the front desk were polite and charming. We had a long drive in from Indianapolis and were very hungry. He had a great suggestion for a local BBQ joint and when we let him know we were going to Graceland the next day, he gave us advice on the morning traffic. I found the decor to be minimal but polished giving the place an upscale, boutique hotel feel. The room was just lovely, someone named "Rocky" left a handwritten note and we even had a nice view of downtown. The bed and the pillows were very comfortable, no sore back or neck the next day. We had none of the noise issues other reviewers mention. It wasn't just quiet, I mean we heard absolutely nothing at all. Maybe they fixed the issue somehow. All in all I would stay here again the next time we're in town.

Yelp
The outside of the hotel is super neat looking and the inside is clean. Staff was friendly and gave good advice on where to get good bbq. When we asked about coffee and creamer they almost seemed put out but Nicely went and looked in the kitchen. I understand there is a pandemic goin on but they didn't have coffee or breakfast in the morning. No grab and go nothing so that was very disappointing. The rooms were clean. A semi funky smell but no big deal. We did notice one of the drawers had clothes left in it from a previous stay, so I'm not sure if housekeeping forgot to look or what that was about. It was a nice stay for one night for sure! They do have a security that sits at the table in the window for everyone to see so that was nice as well!

Yelp
Hotel rooms are nice but parking is a nightmare. Unless you're good with navigating parking garages and walking or using street parking adds, I would stay somewhere else. Also, no plug outlets in the bathroom. Seriously?!?!?!? How is one supposed to use a hair dryer?

Yelp
My stay at Hotel Napoleon was horrible! It was a nightmare! From the customer service to the stay itself! The air was not working in my room! There was numerous of staff that came up to try and fix the air!The air still wasn't WORKING!I checked in on Friday and was being VERY PATIENT! Late Saturday night we was finally move to another room! The room was a double for me and my husband! My reservation was a KING!Making the best of the situation and trying not to ruin our Anniversary trip to Memphis! Only to wake up to my husband BRAND NEW car being hit! Which was Valet PARKED! Very Poor CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM THE MANAGER PAUL TEDFORD! I would NEVER Recommend this Hotel! Not even to my Dog! Book another Hotel and save yourself the HEADACHE!!!!!!!! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO ME! Yelp
I'd like to give zero stars for the horrible experience I had to just endure. So after driving over 7 hours just to get to the room that we booked at 9pm on the way here for the 24th- the 25th we get here at 3am just to be told by the girl named Paris that we were charged a no show fee because according to them checking in after 3pm is a no show...... How so when we booked at 9?!??? Now we are being told that we don't get a refund for the room we don't get refunded for the no-show fee so now we are just being charged double the amount and for what we can't even check into our room now we are over here trying to figure out where to get a room.... Never would I ever attempt this place again. We need our money back and hopefully management sees this and does right.

Yelp
This is such a neat place! The hotel is clean and beautiful. Our room had these incredible lighted mirrors that made getting ready to go out for the evening so great! The front desk staff, Brandon and Erik were so kind and accommodating (and very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and the great restaurants). And one of the other staff members was really helpful in finding us a pack n play for our infant. We really loved our stay and hope we get to stay again!

Yelp
Horrible! DO NOT STAY HERE!!! I don't know who they're paying to write fake review but holy hell. The front desk clerk was the rudest person I've ever encountered and we are "easy going" travelers! We drove 8 hours from Gulf Shores on our wedding anniversary to stay here! My brother in law booked 2 rooms for us and our kids as a gift. The man at the desk looked high, Truly under the influence of something. He wouldn't let us check in because he said he needed my brother in law's ID. My brother in law called the hotel also, he was rude to him as well. No valet parking, I was told "we could drive around the block til we found a spot", public meters were broken and ADDED BONUS they were going to charge $500 as an "incidentals" hold for the next 10 days on our bank account!!! Seriously, ruined my wedding anniversary, worst experience of any trip we've had and we will NEVER visit Memphis again! Whoever he is, he needs to be fired!
