The Essential Guide to Beppu, Japan

"I love visiting New Basara for date night because the owner curates natural wines from across Japan and will happily tell you about the vineyards behind each vintage; the chalkboard menu changes daily with seasonal small bites that pair beautifully with the wines. Standouts I enjoyed include a rich pork terrine and bright lemongrass gyoza, making it a great way to explore Beppu’s emerging natural-wine scene." - Kim Kay Kim Kay Kim Kay is a freelance writer with a focus on Japan travel and culinary culture. The hotel is very well located in the heart of Beppu. Literally everything was around, even close by walking so most of the times you won't even need to take a transport (of course with exceptions for the tourist attractions which are anyways a bit far from the center). The staff was extremely welcoming and friendly and there were no issues with English language. All the instructions were clearly written in perfect English and the staff was speaking relatively good too. The view was amazing from all places (room, breakfast, onsen). Rooms were quite big and could fit a whole family. Overall extremely satisfied with my stay for such an affordable price all things considered.

I stayed here for two nights. The location is excellent, situated next to the Tokiwa Department Store, Yume Town, and the Oita Bus Station—very convenient. The room is spacious and features traditional decor. The breakfast is delightful, and there's a wonderful onsen on the 6th floor.

Good location and great breakfast. The room is old-fashioned but clean. Onsen is basic but does the job.

The location is really good. Even though the booking system says it doesn't have parking, they do have free parking in front of the hotel. The room is pretty clean, but the hotel itself is very old. The bathroom is not refurbished, so we didn't use it at all. We just used the sauna to take a shower. The hotspring bath at the sauna is way too hot. While I was there, I didn't see anyone can stay inside for more than a second.

For the price was a big deal, I stayed Ina Japanese style room which was super nice, the public bath on the 6th floor is good too

The Japanese room style is huge. It can fit 10 people. We are a family of 5 and we have plenty of room for my children to explore and enjoy the room. Even the room is old but clean. The style is very traditional and we love it. We stay on the 2nd floor but the view of the sea is nice enough. Breakfast is not bad with variety of food, lots of Japanese style food. Staff are super nice. The hotel is a bit far from train station but within walking distance. Overall is great with this price.

Good: location is great. You can walk to the beach. Close to Beppu station with many restaurants all around. Bad: rooms are old and worn + not clean. Dust hanging off the aircon everywhere else. Doors are thin and you could literally hear everyone talking from outside your door.

The japanese style room for family of 4 is very spacious. There is a foyer area at the entrance of the room large enough for luggage. Room had a bathtub and balcony with a sitting area. Location was fantastic right in central Beppu. Youme Town Beppu is a huge mall just 5-10 mins walk away which has a large supermarket and shops. Many restaurants and izakayas in the vicinity so there is no lack of food options. Breakfast was included in the room rate and we loved the sun filled dining hall with sea views. Typical japanese breakfast which tasted great. There is free parking and onsen onsite. Onsen was a bit crowded and a bit dated. Best of all, the room rate was very reasonable for the quality and room size. Highly recommended.
