The 17 Best Hotels in Berlin

"Hotel Oderberger's setting is one of the most splendid in Berlin: It's inside Prenzlauer Berg's landmarked 19th-century Stadtbad Oderberger, a public bathhouse designed by architect Ludwig Hoffmann, who also created the city’s iconic Pergamon Museum. The conversion to a boutique hotel preserved many of the grand building’s original details, most notably the 65-foot-long indoor pool, set beneath a magnificent vaulted stone ceiling and surrounded by massive arched columns and huge, church-like windows. It's the first thing you see when you enter the lobby, and it definitely impresses. The 72 rooms are all unique in layout, and the modern design incorporates historic details in a clever way: original numbered wood doors from the bathing cabins, now glassed in, live on as bathroom doors. Go for the cool historical details and great location in the heart of buzzy Prenzlauer Berg." - Jennifer Ceaser, Liz Humphreys

Hotel Oderberger Berlin

"Tell us what sets this one apart. This hotel’s setting is one of the most splendid in Berlin: It's inside Prenzlauer Berg's landmarked 19th-century Stadtbad Oderberger, a public bathhouse designed by architect Ludwig Hoffmann, who also created the city’s iconic Pergamon Museum. Nice. Who else do you see in the lobby?Casual leisure travelers attracted to the buzzy bars and restaurants in surrounding Prenzlauer Berg. How was check in? Is the hotel easy to navigate? The reception desk doubles as registration for the pool and sauna, which is open to the public, so hotel guests with roller bags have to wait in the same line as locals headed for a swim—a bit bizarre. Because it's a landmarked building, there's no air-conditioning, which might be bothersome during the warmer months, when open windows allow in street noise. And the Tower Suites, set in a five-story tower, don't have elevator access. Well, as long as we're warned. Once you're upstairs, what are the rooms like? The 72 rooms all are unique in layout, from smaller Comfort rooms to split-level Maisonettes with 16-foot ceilings, to two enormous attic Apartments with floor-to-ceiling windows and balconies offering fantastic city views. The modern design—neutral gray furnishings, oak-plank floors, copper lighting, and subway-tiled tables—incorporates historic details in a clever way: original numbered wood doors from the bathing cabins, now glassed in, live on as bathroom doors. Bathrooms are spacious and feature walk-in rainforest showers, heated towel racks, and organic products from Ada Cosmetics Naturals. Any other little amenities to know about? All rooms have a tablet that guests can use for free during their stay; it outlines all the services offered by the hotel, such as in-room beauty treatments and massages. You mentioned visitors drawn by the food—could you tell us more?At the moment, only breakfast is served at Restaurant Oderberger, once a power station. It’s a dramatic space, with 50-foot ceilings, large arched windows, exposed brick walls, and herringbone floors, plus cool details like original thermometers. Diners can eat on the ground level or across two open mezzanines. Breakfast is an additional charge outside the room rate, but it’s worth it for the generous buffet, which showcases many regionally sourced products. The Fireplace Bar, which doubles as the lobby lounge, opens at 5 p.m. and serves classic cocktails, seasonal drinks, and draft beer from the Neukölln district. In winter, you can cozy up to the wood-burning fireplace; summers, a lovely terrace is set up on the charming cobblestoned Oderbergerstrasse. Anything else we should know about the facilities?Hotel guests must pay a fee (5 euros, or approximately $5.50) to use the pool and sauna. It's occasionally closed for private events. Bottom line: Why come to the Hotel Oderberger? For the cool historical details and great location in the heart of buzzy Prenzlauer Berg." - Jennifer Ceaser

The pool water is advertised as 26°C, but it feels a bit cooler than expected. It's not cold, and if you're swimming, it’s fine, but if you're just walking around or looking to relax, it might feel a bit chilly. There are no designated swimming lanes, which can make the experience chaotic. You'll depend on others to be mindful of their surroundings, and you also need to stay alert. If you're there to swim, it feels like a bit of a gamble—sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. The pool itself is decent, although you’ll notice some mold in certain areas. To be fair, it’s not terrible, but it's worth mentioning. One thing that could improve the overall cleanliness is making swim caps mandatory—there tends to be hair floating in the water, which can be off-putting. The women’s changing room is small, with limited space. It also could use a good cleaning, as there were balls of hair scattered on the floor. The showers had mold and dirt buildup, which was disappointing. For €10, considering this is part of a luxury hotel, the experience was acceptable but just barely. It's on the edge of being "okay," but there’s definitely room for improvement.

We loved our recent stay at the Hotel Oderberger. The room was unique, stylish and spacious for a family of four. Hotel staff were great and breakfast was expensive but delicious. A truly lovely place to stay in a fun neighborhood close to transport connections that will take you anywhere you need to go.

Amazing experience, especially given that we were studying at the GLS language school on site. We booked the tower room, which had a wonderful view. The location was simply perfect, with cafes, restaurants (many vegan options), bars, laundry, grocery, and transit just a stone's throw away. The bar was so luxurious to hang out in (both inside and outside), and the workout room was great - we used it twice in our 5 days on site. The front desk staff was incredibly helpful in all our needs, and I have to give a special shout to the bar staff who we felt really made an effort to get to know us!

We have just returned from an incredible 3 night stay! All the staff were lovely but a big shout out to the blonde gentleman with the moustache who works in the bar! We drank in there every night and he was so hospitable! Such a cosy fire and comfy seats! Our room was so quiet with the comfiest bed and we had amazing omelettes cooked fresh every morning for breakfast (great chef). We skipped room cleaning for a swim in the pool, it was lovely but cold so thought we would warm up in the sauna but everyone was naked in there so we turned it down! We had a giggle about it, maybe we are too prudent in Britain! It was a fab area for restaurants and we had the most amazing pizzas each night. We were able to walk everywhere from here, saw the Mauerpark flea market on the Sunday. We are already looking to come back we had such a great time! So glad we picked this hotel. 5 stars from us.

I am reviewing the pool and the interaction with the reception staff. The pool is nice, and it was not overcrowded when we were there. However, for the 20/25 people there, there were 12 lounge chairs. I cannot imagine what it is like to lie down and relax when it is crowded. If you cannot get a sun chair, you have the option to sit straight on a hospital-like wooden bench. I have not tried it, but it did not look very relaxing. As regards the staff at the reception, I have interacted with them both at an event a couple of days prior as well as for the visit of the pool. They are unfriendly and not interested at all in their customers. For an expensive boutique hotel you would at least expect a smile and a how may I help you when you stand in front of them. First and last time at the pool, and I will definitely not be trying the hotel for my guests.

We visited the pool and sauna facilities as non-hotel guests on a Saturday morning, having seen this location listed among the top publicly accessible pools in Berlin. Naturally, my expectations were high—and while the place is indeed beautifully situated in the heart of Prenzlauer Berg, the experience left much to be desired. We had a 2-hour slot booked online, but we left after just 30 minutes. Changing Facilities (4/10): The changing rooms are extremely small and overcrowded. I found myself constantly bumping into others and apologizing every couple of minutes. While there is shower gel available, the showers themselves are poorly maintained, which brings the overall hygiene score in my mind to about a 4/10. The Pool (3/10): Visually, the pool looks great—but it’s surprisingly inconvenient in practice. There are very few spots to store your belongings. You’re given a key on a bracelet for your locker and a separate card to access the facilities, which becomes awkward to manage considering there isn't enough space. There’s also a €10 deposit required for the card. The water was uncomfortably cold—far below room temperature—which made swimming feel more like a chore than a relaxing experience. The pool was also crowded, but that’s to be expected in a city like Berlin. The Sauna (0/10): After swimming, we headed to the sauna area downstairs. There’s only one small sauna, and when we entered, a group had been occupying it for at least 15 minutes—one person was sprawled across the entire bench, with zero regard for others. The surrounding facilities are minimal: a few showers, some waiting areas, and what looked like a tanning station, but otherwise the space felt oddly barren—almost like a strange, silent liminal zone you'd rather escape than unwind in. What truly ruined the experience was the behavior of that same group: after exiting the sauna, they began shouting and making bizarre noises, creating a disturbing and hostile atmosphere. No staff were present to manage the situation, clean up, or ensure a peaceful environment. Final Thoughts: Yes, guest behavior plays a role—but it’s also the responsibility of management to maintain a clean, relaxing, and welcoming space. Unfortunately, this place fails on all fronts. Instead of feeling rejuvenated, we left feeling stressed, uncomfortable, and very unwelcome. In summary: a beautiful space with shockingly poor execution. Not worth the time, money, or frustration. I will not be returning.

We stayed for four nights and had a really lovely time. The hotel is an old swimming baths that has been stylishly renovated. The pool is striking and I had a lovely swim and relaxation in the comfy lounge chair by the side. We used the bar which had a lovely atmosphere with the fire on and the staff were friendly and helpful. ||Our bed was comfy, the room had everything we needed.||We really liked the area of Prenzlauer Berg and had fabulous meals at Vietnam Village across the road. On Sunday we went to the local flea market in Mauerpark and that was good fun. ||I would definitely stay again.

Google
Charming local hotel in a cute village. This is not a destination spot but if you need a room in this area this hotel will be fine. The building is quite old so our room floor was very sloped in two directions. But this gave it charm. For an inexpensive hotel this room was more than adequate.

Yelp
We stayed here for a week when visiting Berlin this summer and really enjoyed our time. The location is absolutely fantastic. Yes, I get that Prenzlauer Berg is the cliche "hip" area in Berlin right now but there's a reason for that. The hotel is within easy walking distance of Mauerpark, a whole multitude of good restaurants and multiple U-Bahn and tram stops. There's a lovely bar downstairs with outdoor seating as well as a rooftop balcony. The hotel's price was reasonable for what you get. One thing I'm not sure I'd recommend is getting breakfast here. It was decent but pricey and I was not impressed by the freshness of their bread and pastries, especially when you're in a neighborhood with so many other options.

Yelp
Ulli B. recommended this wonderful hotel. I asked for a hotel with good breakfast and spa/swimmingpool. I got much more. Stadtbad Oderberger Straße was built in 1899-1902. It was part of the big plan to supply the exploding population in Berlin with good sanitation (stadtbad), secure food supply (markthalle), and hospitals. Healthy workers produce more!! For many years until 1986 it functioned as public bath with swimmingpool. In 1986 the pool was closed, but until mid 90ties you could go here for a bath. A lot of the flats in area didn't have any. Now again the Stadtbad Oderberger have reopened, but as a hotel with the swimmingpool as a very central feature. Hotel guest and the public can go swimming. The pool is 20 meters and 27° C. The pool area can be turned into a big ballroom. Hotel guest pay € 4 to go to the pool. Change at your room, take the hotel bathrobe on, and go to the reception to get your ticket. They also have a sauna and some other spa facilities, but I didn't use them. The former changing room have been turned into a library and a bar (Kaminbar). Every hotel gust get a free drink in the bar. The rooms are nicely done, and features from the old public bath have been incorporated. In our room they have used old tiles for a table top and door to the bathroom was a old locker door. At the room you have a fridge (empty, so go the the nearby Rewe to stuck up on beer and wine), and coffee/tea machine with pads. The television is HD and you can watch most German broadcasts (not SKY). You can also use the television as a radio. Every room has a safe. In the bathroom you get organic body lotion and soap. Breakfast at the hotel is insane good. You get all the normal breakfast cereals, cheeses, meat products, type of breads, and brewages. On top are sekt, special coffees, waffles, and a chef doing eggs on your demand. Most products are home made or local, even the honey. The bread is not top nutch, but it's my only negative thing to say. Staff are very helpfull, and some of them are politely socialising with the guests. It gives the hotel a warming and homely fell. The WiFi is working well.

Yelp
So disappointed with the management of this hotel .Booked through their website thinking the hotel would not incur booking fees. So wrong. Too bad for being nice. It was early on in covid. We live in Los Angeles & were visiting Berlin to see our grandson perform with Santa Monica High School orchestra at the Berliner Philharmonie ...so cool... Booked 2 rooms costing around $1,800 ... We cancelled then the hotel cancelled and closed for business during our paid for stay.., Ok they offered us firstly til end of 2020 to visit. Really not feasible with restrictions from US They kept pointing to the option of cancellation when booking Please who knew we had a pandemic on the horizon. They kept emphasizing they were a small family owned hotel. What about us older grandparents loosing our money to them. Every and all the bookings we made were refunded. Including the small hotel in Amsterdam. Th e 1st concert was planned there.., All I expected was for them to honor our commitment to choosing Oderberger hotel and extend the reservation til it was ok for us to travel They took my money & don't care.. Do not book directly with them I am still upset about their handling of our situation. So rigid & unfriendly Agnes .

Yelp
Great location, impressive history and layout complete with beautiful swimming pool and guest rooms. My only issue was with the aggressive staff on the front desk not really embracing the whole "hospitality' thing - or maybe I've been in America too long!

Smiling I.

Yelp
My family and I stayed at Hotel Oderberger for six nights in March and it was truely excellent. Many pluses, and a couple of suggestions. Good/Excellent: - staff are excellent for check in, the bar, and in the breakfast area - the young man who was there was very friendly and helpful - the breakfast that was included was excellent, and a lot of options for various allergies and vegetarians in the family, great way to have a balanced meal before touring Berlin every day - check in and check out were easy and friendly both in German and English - very peaceful and quiet (aside from the odd fire truck from the fire station down the road) - easily accessible on Berlin's excellent public transit system - situated close to a number of excellent restaurants and shops, safe area, easy to walk around, and plenty to see and experience Suggestions: - have the swimming pool free for hotel guests, I know 4 Euro is not a lot, but just makes it nicer - give parents the ability to have a glass of wine/beer by the pool while the kids swim - have a corkscrew/bottle opener in the room - dim the emergency lights in to apartments, way too bright at nighttime, makes it hard to sleep unless you cover it with a shirt or something which defeats the purpose - have a comfortable armchair/sofa in the apartment to make it nice to sit a read a book or watch the TV, the chairs were a bit industrial and not super relaxing We look forward to staying again on our next trip to Berlin!

Yelp
My work schedule changed WEEKS before I was supposed to arrive. They offer NO refund of any kind. This poor customer service doesn't float in the USA.
