We visited the pool and sauna facilities as non-hotel guests on a Saturday morning, having seen this location listed among the top publicly accessible pools in Berlin. Naturally, my expectations were high—and while the place is indeed beautifully situated in the heart of Prenzlauer Berg, the experience left much to be desired. We had a 2-hour slot booked online, but we left after just 30 minutes.
Changing Facilities (4/10):
The changing rooms are extremely small and overcrowded. I found myself constantly bumping into others and apologizing every couple of minutes. While there is shower gel available, the showers themselves are poorly maintained, which brings the overall hygiene score in my mind to about a 4/10.
The Pool (3/10):
Visually, the pool looks great—but it’s surprisingly inconvenient in practice. There are very few spots to store your belongings. You’re given a key on a bracelet for your locker and a separate card to access the facilities, which becomes awkward to manage considering there isn't enough space. There’s also a €10 deposit required for the card.
The water was uncomfortably cold—far below room temperature—which made swimming feel more like a chore than a relaxing experience. The pool was also crowded, but that’s to be expected in a city like Berlin.
The Sauna (0/10):
After swimming, we headed to the sauna area downstairs. There’s only one small sauna, and when we entered, a group had been occupying it for at least 15 minutes—one person was sprawled across the entire bench, with zero regard for others.
The surrounding facilities are minimal: a few showers, some waiting areas, and what looked like a tanning station, but otherwise the space felt oddly barren—almost like a strange, silent liminal zone you'd rather escape than unwind in.
What truly ruined the experience was the behavior of that same group: after exiting the sauna, they began shouting and making bizarre noises, creating a disturbing and hostile atmosphere. No staff were present to manage the situation, clean up, or ensure a peaceful environment.
Final Thoughts:
Yes, guest behavior plays a role—but it’s also the responsibility of management to maintain a clean, relaxing, and welcoming space. Unfortunately, this place fails on all fronts. Instead of feeling rejuvenated, we left feeling stressed, uncomfortable, and very unwelcome.
In summary: a beautiful space with shockingly poor execution. Not worth the time, money, or frustration. I will not be returning.
