"Formerly a 19th-century public swimming pool, this retro-chic four-star hotel feels a bit 'accidentally Wes Anderson' with whimsical symmetry and vintage design; I love the cocktail bar and fantastic breakfast buffet served in a former thermal power station (complete with a waffle bar, homemade pastries, and healthy options like smoothies). The gorgeous historic swimming pool with vaulted stone ceilings remains and can even be rented for a private after-hours dip, and there's a sauna for cold or rainy Berlin days. The spacious rooms are cozy and full of character—hardwood floors, exposed brick, subway-tile details, and restored original windows—and include flatscreen TVs, mini fridges, electric kettles (some rooms even have a full kitchenette). Bathrooms are sizable with walk-in rainfall showers, heated towel racks, complimentary toiletries, and I like that some bathroom doors are reused from the building's bathhouse days. It's a unique, historic place in a picturesque neighborhood filled with some of Berlin's best restaurants and bars." - Matthew Kepnes
