Oostergoo

"Oostergoo is an ideal base from which to explore the picturesque town of Grou and, for that matter, the lovely province of Friesland – starting with a visit to this beautiful marina terrace. It's quite an experience! The old Dutch interior, with its Delftware and lovely parquet flooring, is no less enchanting. They serve up an authentic brand of traditional cuisine. The locally caught smoked eel is a real treat!" - Michelin Inspector

Classic location. Just had coffee, and I did not stay overnight. Service was average. Home of the oldest sailing association in the Netherlands

This hotel is a historic place in the small city of Grou in the province of Friesland, known for it's aquatic activities during the warm season. It exudes old world charm, the location is perfect next to the lake, with their own jetty. I stayed in the hotel during the slow season, in actual fact: I was the only guest in the hotel which gave me a strange desolate impression. I enjoyed a Christmas meal with members of my family that live near by. The meal was adequate, but not excellent. The service on the contrary was more than adequate, very friendly and efficient. I stayed in a single room that was quite small, but that was not an important issue. I looked out over the lake. There are no elevators in the hotel, so those with lots of luggage should be prepared to climb stairs. The hotel has a reputation to serve a good breakfast, but since I was the only guest, this breakfast was very uninteresting. Enough bread for 10 people, a hard boiled egg, a bowl of yoghurt with watermelon and some cold cuts. No great selection of teas. The breakfast room looks out over the lake and is pleasant, I surely would want to come back in the high season, I am sure it will be a completely different experience.

We had a lunch in Oostergoo restaurant in a warm beginning of autumn day. The restaurant is the little centre of Grouw in the middle of The Netherlands north country and we had the possibility to eat at the open air looking nearby the little port. The choice of dishes is varied and offers something for all tastes. The dishes are presented with taste and leave satisfied with quality and quantity. The service is courteous, friendly and attentive to the special requirements of customers. A restaurant to recommend and return.

Sincere gratitude to the owners and staff for a nice stay at the hotel at the end of November. I had a single room on the first floor. The stairs are really not easy especially if you climb or get down with a suitcase but I was lucky and a young man helped me get the suitcase upstairs and downstairs it is always easier. The room is clean, bedlinen and towels were good. What I really appreciated was that I could regulate the radiator as I needed. I was happy with the lamps available though one of them was a bit old and failed to get on sometimes. I wish there were a stool for the suitcase. Still it was a good stay, I appreciated quietness.

we had a short 2 day stay for a family wedding and were delighted we managed to get into the Hotel which is in the heart of the town, right on the marina front and a delightful, if a little old school, hotel. excellent service, very friendly helpful staff and a breakfast that will see you right for the day ahead.

Even combination of historical building, you can hear your neighbors breathing, literally, and nearby church nearly killed me and I would give normally much less. I can't everything is clean, room small, but comfortable, everything normal. But stuff and kitchen, they killed it all. Perfect cuisine supported by smiling and helpful stuff and breakfast on the terrace by water. Always again.

We stayed here for one night as we like the location and the restaurant. We chose the room with a view out to the water with a tiny balcony. The room and bathroom were clean and tidy. The bed was a miniature double bed and offered no support whatsoever. The pillows the same. All in all, the room looked a bit tired. We don't know what the other rooms are like. Dinner was delicious and perfect, breakfast, too which is served in a room on the first floor with a lovely view onto the water.
