Christmas in Lithuania, From Vilnius to Kaunas

"When it comes to accommodation for the Vilnius festive season, this small, compact and cosy city has much to offer. Many of the city's old buildings have been lovingly restored to their former grandeur and include the once noble palace of the Hotel Pacai, situated a mere snowball's throw from the Town Hall Square." - The MICHELIN Guide UK Editorial Team

Pacai

"The owners here claim that this 17th Century baroque property in the heart of the Old Town was once the most magnificent mansion in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania; today, it’s home to a boutique hotel complete with a spa and this stylish restaurant. Start with a drink in the large, retro-style cocktail bar, before moving on to interesting seasonal dishes with a strong Lithuanian base. The wine list is highly recommended, with some great vintages at every turn and a good selection of different wines by the glass. In the summer months, when the light lasts long into the evening, the central courtyard becomes an appealing oasis." - Michelin Inspector

Fantastic hotel in the center of old town Vilnius. Rooms are on the small side, however they are well appointed. Service is outstanding with friendly and helpful staff. Stayed here 5 nights and was sad to leave. Can’t beat location next to shops, restaurants, and the old Jewish quarter. Would definitely recommend and stay here again.

I had the pleasure of staying at Hotel PACAI in the heart of Vilnius Old Town, and honestly—what a perfect experience! From the moment you walk through the gate, there’s this elegant atmosphere and a subtle, lovely scent that follows you all the way to reception. The staff were incredibly kind, cheerful, and always ready to help with a smile. My room was spacious, spotless, and offered a charming view—definitely felt like a touch of luxury. The spa session was just what I needed to unwind, super relaxing. And the breakfast… oh, that omelette! You could genuinely die for the taste. Yes, the price is a bit higher than some other options around, but it’s absolutely worth every cent. If you're looking for comfort, elegance, and a memorable stay in Vilnius, Hotel PACAI is the place.

The facilities of the hotel are excellent. The quality of the food is very good too. My mid par review is based on the staff, primarily the bar/restaurant staff. There’s an air that it’s ok to give sub par service. ||Two examples include, first night I can’t get into the restaurant although there are maybe 6 tables being served. I then agree to eat in the bar, I order wine and water…wine arrives, no water and 20+ minutes later I’m still waiting to put my order in. I went to the restaurant again and asked why couldn’t I get a table, for some reason that works although am told it might take a while to receive my food (?). My meal came within appropriate timing and was delicious. Why did I have to deal with all this nonsense to start off my stay? ||Second situation included not being able to eat lunch on the outdoor patio although there had to be 8+ tables available. I then went to the bar, ordered a €30 burger. I took a quick peak outside and a table where prior guests were sitting is available, I asked can I move outside and was told yes. Next thing I know I’m being told while sitting at the table that it’s reserved….embarrassing situation and move back inside. I finally decided to write this review as there are 3 children jumping up and down on the sofas, hitting each other with the seat cushions and are so animated that everyone is shaking their heads….this is not a place where I want to spend €30 for a burger. The staff is observing this situation and could care less that their guests are being impacted in what they probably consider is a “high end” environment.||I’m trying to figure out why I chose Hotel Pacai as the overall experience has definitely not met expectations Hopefully they can figure it out moving forward for others.

We have been staying here for years. The most important asset apart from the perfect location, the well maintained property, the excellent service and the amazing food and drink here are its people. They never cease to amaze us with their genuine hospitality and care for their customers. Today was the best example. We travel here often as my wife has an elderly mother living in a city 2 hours away. 3 weeks ago she left some personal effects in a safe by accident and today on a subsequent stay the items were returned to her only because of the very honest maid staff and very well run hotel and very honest people. We are very grateful to you after many years of staying there. This place is awesome and you will not be disappointed staying here.

Fabulous option in Vilnius, central to Old Town and next to Town Hall. Lovely welcome, easy check in. Beautiful surroundings and courtyard, felt very secure. Room was a bit of a walk on the way in via reception, but easy access when leaving. Staff all super friendly and attentive. Room was very clean and comfortable. Access to the spa included a hammam room (40 degrees) and Finnish dry sauna (80 degrees), with all spa amenities. Breakfast was lovely - a la carte options and full buffet. |Thoroughly recommend!

Hotel PACAI was amazing. I got to stay here for 13 nights. The hotel is beautiful, they have a great breakfast, and the location is amazing. Really close to old town and everywhere you need to go is a quick walk. The rooms are super nice as well. The reason for the 4 stars is that the hotel reception do not offer the same service to everyone. We noticed that some guests got a “mini tour” of the hotel where all the history and fun facts were mentioned. Other guests were offered champagne and water while checking in. My friend and I both had a 3 hour wait at check in (we arrived separately) and we were not offered either of these. It seems not guests are treated equally. A part of the hotel (or a nearby building) was under construction and at 9am sharp each day there were loud drilling noises next to the room. No warning from hotel staff. The heating and cooling system in the room is a really weird. Apparently the hotel will swap the entire hotel to cool or heat depending on the temperature outside. If they feel it is cold outside you will only be able to get heat in your room. One day you have heat the next day you have air con. It’s a really odd system and the windows don’t open that much. Other hotels in Vilnius have great locations as well and are in even more historic buildings. While PACAI is stunning, it’s not the only one. If you like a cold room at night I would recommend looking for other properties.

This hotel was an unexpected and delightful surprise. From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. The interior is beautifully designed, creating a warm and elegant atmosphere. The service is impeccable, with staff who go above and beyond to ensure a perfect stay. Every detail is thoughtfully considered, making the experience feel truly special. I didn’t expect such excellence, but that’s exactly what this hotel delivers. It’s undoubtedly the best place to stay in Vilnius. On top of that, they serve a fantastic breakfast with a great selection of high-quality dishes. A truly remarkable hotel that I would highly recommend!

I was very fortunate to stay at this hotel on business as I was attending a conference held in the Jazz conference suite. ||In the evening we were treated to a six course tasting dinner of EXCEPTIONAL quality with an accompanying wine flight. ||The talented Chef Gooda Juknaite explained each course (they were all amazing) the story about her grandmothers dessert brought a tear to our eyes.||The knowledgeable Sommelier Kamile Bartuseviccute (apologies if I have misspelled any names) explained the wines which were served excellently. The red-wine called Fool was the one I liked best. ||The bedrooms in the hotel are great (one small tip… some milk in the room for the tea and coffee would not go amiss) ||The front of house staff and bar staff all terribly polite and efficient.||The service in the conference Jazz suite was also very good . A huge screen for the presentation I gave made the job a lot easier.||All in all a very good job Pacai! ||I hope to come back to Vilnius. If I do you know where I will stay!
