A mixed feeling, with some very good and some not-so-good points.
A truly beautiful hotel.
A magnificent building.
A very well-decorated lobby.
A superb room, spacious and very pleasant, with a lovely high ceiling under the roof. The bedding is perfect, and the bathroom is not only highly functional but also very attractive.
On top of that there was a very kind and pleasant hand written welcome note in the room all in our native language! Thank you for that.
In short, everything could have been perfect, if not for a few details.
First, the reception was neither welcoming nor reassuring. They took a photocopy of my passport and wrote down all the details of my credit card. When I asked why, the answer was: “So we can charge you if you’ve taken anything from the minibar or elsewhere.” In other words, they explained they could bill me for anything without my consent. Not a pre-authorization as is customary, but rather an open door to charges at the hotel’s sole discretion. The whole process felt completely insecure. And on top of that, it implied I might leave without paying what I owed?
Then, still at the reception: after bringing up my luggage, I came back down and asked for the Wi-Fi code. The answer: “You can just look in the booklet in the room.” I had to insist for the receptionist to give me the codes without having to go back upstairs.
Finally, again at reception, a whole performance just to get a physical key card instead of accepting the certified one on my iPhone. The attitude was very aggressive and, once again, tinged with suspicion of dishonesty.
In the room: the power outlet next to the bed was broken, as was the USB socket; no towel rack in the bathroom; a few hairs in the shower that weren’t ours; and the radio didn’t work.
Such a shame — this could truly be the best value-for-money hotel.
