Palais Saleya | Best places to stay in Nice

"A cheerful base for a few days in Nice, the Palais Saleya is set in a buttercup-coloured, 18th-century apartment building on the edge of the city’s old town. The gleaming white suites, with mid-century furniture, bold art and murals, sleep up to four, while apartments sleep up to eight. The latter are especially good for self-catering, perhaps with produce from the nearby Cours Saleya market. The location couldn’t be better for enjoying Nice – as well as the Old Town, it’s a few minutes’ walk to the beach, to the new town shopping district, and even the stop for the airport tram. It has parking, too – great for anyone about to embark on a Cote d’Azur road trip or drive the Grand Corniche. " - Dana Facaros

We very much enjoyed our stay at Palais Saleya. Centrally located in Nice Old Town, close to public transport connections, great restaurants and shops. We appreciated their shuttle service (55 euro) at the end of a 40+ hour trip from Australia. The staff were very friendly, engaging, informative and helpful. The two bedroom apartment overlooking the square was very well appointed with amenities and was very comfortable. However, the noise from the square into the early morning hours and then again a few hours later with garbage collections, etc, was at times problematic (nb. Ear plugs supplied). Complicated by the fact the room had no cooling (we were advised to open the windows for cool air). So, maybe the better option might be a room not overlooking the square. Despite this, we were happy with our choice of hotel.

The Palis Saleya was the perfect place for a girls getaway in Nice. It had an amazing location right in the heart of the market area and close to the tram. A nice 15 minute walk took us through the shopping district to the train. The room was perfect for a group of 4 with each of us having our own twin bed. The stairs to the loft area were tight with luggage but manageable. The front desk staff were extremely helpful and spoke great English, so communication was done with ease. Would highly recommend this hotel.

The Hotel Palais Saleya is a special hotel and we love it there. It is in a wonderful location in the middle of everything -- nightlife, promenade, restaurants, & beaches as well as old town and “regular” town. Important to be sure to get a room that is front facing to see the square and the nightlife, so you feel like you are there. Some rooms on other parts of each floor face a courtyard or a side pedestrian street with little light or views.|+ fully equipped kitchenette with full size frig, washer, dryer, dishwasher, stovetop, and microwave.|+ working washer/dryer combination unit. One “aha” lesson vs. prior years is that when you open the door when the dryer cycle (11 – cubboard dry, not hanger or iron dry) is finished, the clothes will at first touch feel wet. In past years, we assumed that the clothes were not dry and the cycle had not worked properly and would redo the entire cycle. This year, we figured out that it was the humidity from the steam making them feel wet, and once you take them out of the dryer and smooth them out to fold, they are fully dry. Only fill about half full (a pair of jeans, a few tops and shorts, and some socks) in order for the wash & dry to work; cramming too much in will result in very long cycle times and very very wrinkled clothes. Best cycles are 4 for wash and 11 for dry, taking about 3 hours.|+ staff is incredibly professional and helpful. Thanks to Ornella & Celine for their help, assistance, and language lessons.|+ offer beach towels at a E 3 rental fee, which saves a lot of money vs. renting at the beach clubs. Continued to offer towels through the end of Sept this year, vs. prior years when they stopped mid-month.||Negatives|- Still no bathrobes. This is the #1 priority request as it would be so helpful and efficient for travelers who have to bring their own just for stays at this hotel. |- Not quite as pristine clean as in past years, although housekeeping staff works very hard and cleans everything in sight unless you specifically ask them to leave certain belongings / areas alone and they will respect that request.|- Housekeeping will open the window blinds during the day when they clean the room, vs. keeping them closed to keep the room cool on hot days as the front façade of the hotel is west facing and gets strong afternoon sun.|- Sinks at times did not drain well

Like most boutique hotels without a centre point - it was a bit soulless.|That said the room was well appointed and spacious. The bed was lovely - big and comfortable.|The location was excellent ……… except at night time party revellers created a lot of noise well into the early hours of the morning.

My family of three stayed at Hotel Palais Saleya for 5 nights in July and we couldn't have loved it any more! The location was absolutely perfect in the old town close to amazing restaurants! It was a short walk to the beach and farmer's market as well! The suite with loft was just perfect for my 23 year old daughter, husband and myself with plenty of space to feel comfortable. Great amenities including a washer/ dryer! The dryer didn't dry clothes as well as expected, but we were able to hang clothes and use the hair dryer or towel warmer if needed. The staff at the front desk were extremely kind, helpful and knowledgable! The tram was super close that could take you many places including the train station. We highly recommend this boutique hotel and would definitely stay here again!

The hotel is centrally and conveniently located in Old Nice and is close to major attractions, sights, and restaurants. My Junior Suite was spacious, clean, and comfortable with a soft bed and pillows. My room had a kitchen (microwave, stove, toaster, fridge, plates/cups), iron/board, and a separate upstairs loft area with another bed. While my overall stay was positive, the air conditioner was broken in my room (and in the room next to me which my friend stayed in). Luckily, the weather was not too hot or cold, Instead of blowing out cool air, the vent actually put out warm/hot air when I turned the AC on. I ensured the thermostat was switched to AC mode and not heat mode. Both modes put out hot air. I had to open the window to cool down the room, however, mosquitos got into my room from outside when I did this.

We had a fantastic day at this hotel for three nights. It's super centrally located. Very close to the buses and tram to connect with all parts of niece. Celina at the front desk was super helpful and made our trip even that much better!

Location is great, right in middle of Old Town, near the Flower Market and surrounded by tourist restaurants. |Staff mostly good, particularly lady on Reception.|Hotel itself does not live up to the website photos. Rooms are spacious and well equipped but basic, nothing like the light, bright, stylish photos. Abundant hot water but spartan bathrooms without hooks or shelves so nowhere to hang clothes or store toiletries.|It appears one must choose either noisy rooms overlooking the square and restaurants, or quiet ones at back looking out on to a dismal courtyard. Overall reasonable value for money but will not return.

Yelp
We (husband and I) enjoyed our 5 night stay here. The front desk staff were all very nice and helpful. The location of this boutique hotel is great, right in the heart of everything. We stayed in Rm. 304 which was spacious and comfortable. However, the room got a bit stuffy (A/C is shut off until later in Spring) for sleeping so we opened the windows which allowed all the street noise in. We could hear loud voices and drunken shouts all night long but using the 'white noise' app on my phone drowned most of it out so we could sleep. Ear plugs are provided in the room as well. Other than that we're glad to have selected this hotel which was highly recommended by our daughter and son-in-law who had visited just a few months prior.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at Hotel Palais Saleya during our honeymoon in the South of France. It's a cute and quaint little hotel located in the heart of Old Nice. I love that it's located next to many little streets with a variety of shops, bakeries, and restaurants. When exploring the surrounding streets of this hotel, I was able to get truffles/truffle oil, French soap, French baguettes, and French pastries. It's also just a quick 5 minute walk to the water. It's also a quick 20-25 minute walk to the train station in case you want to travel to Monte Carlo. Now onto the hotel itself. The staff is friendly and speak English well. The room itself that we stayed in was a two-story suite. On the first floor was the bed, bathroom, a small kitchenette with dining table, and washer/dryer. The top floor was a second bed. The only negatives I can think of was there were quite a few small mosquito-looking bugs flying around in our room and the dryer does not work very well. We ended up having to hang dry our laundry because our clothes came out hot but damp still. I would say that the positives outweigh the negatives. Spacious suite, affordable, included useful amenities, and amazing location.

Yelp
This place is as good as it gets. Fantastic location, clean modern rooms and bathrooms, great friendly staff. We had a junior suite that had a mini kitchen and washing machine. They have rooms on the inside courtyard that are very quiet. Would recommend to anyone and would definitely return.
