Palais Saleya | Best places to stay in Nice

"A cheerful base for a few days in Nice, the Palais Saleya is set in a buttercup-coloured, 18th-century apartment building on the edge of the city’s old town. The gleaming white suites, with mid-century furniture, bold art and murals, sleep up to four, while apartments sleep up to eight. The latter are especially good for self-catering, perhaps with produce from the nearby Cours Saleya market. The location couldn’t be better for enjoying Nice – as well as the Old Town, it’s a few minutes’ walk to the beach, to the new town shopping district, and even the stop for the airport tram. It has parking, too – great for anyone about to embark on a Cote d’Azur road trip or drive the Grand Corniche. " - Dana Facaros

We stayed for 4 nights in June and found the hotel very conveniently located in the Old Town. The staff on reception were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Our room had a double bed, sitting area, small kitchen and upper mezzanine area, and was very spacious, with everything you could need, and the beds were very comfortable and the room lovely and cool. We overlooked a small courtyard behind the hotel which meant it was very quiet, and we never heard anything from outside during the night, despite the hotel being situated on the corner of what was quite a busy square, particularly towards the weekend, ||Unfortunately on our arrival the lift was awaiting repair, and this wasn’t completed until two days after our arrival, which meant climbing 4 flights of stairs to our room on the second floor every time we returned to the hotel. This is the reason for giving it 4 rather than 5, as access to a lift was one of our priorities when booking the hotel. Once this was fixed it made things much easier.

This hotel was very comfortable. The staff was welcoming and very helpful. We loved that the room was modern with all appliances you could possibly need. The room and the hotel were clean and well kept. The location was perfect with easy access to the boardwalk, restaurants and shopping. We loved it and would stay there again if we ever came back to Nice.

Great location for trams, beach and city centre. The hotel was just off busy square and very secure. Staff friendly and hotel very clean. Rooms are fantastic, spacious with kitchen facilities and well stocked mini bar. Bed very comfortable |You can order breakfast to your room. Reception very helpful

Very helpful front desk staff. Room a great size for family of 4 . Mezzanine level low ceiling and spiral staircase up. We would return but a couple of room issues on arrival , blind not going up and down, no lock on bathroom door ( we had teens ) and mould in shower. Room was exceptionally clean otherwise. Excellent location with a huge option of food . Short walk to the promenade and trams .

There is something about going to a place and then find that it is even better than what you saw in the photos before booking and then there is the opposite and those that terribly disappoints. This place really disappoints. The photos on their website look so bright, the rooms look modern and new and so clean. The reality is that the rooms are worn down and poorly maintained in every detail, in desperate need of renewal. The bed mattress was also really poor and so worn down. The shower was worn down as well. We had booked a junior suite, which honestly felt dark despite the large windows. The photos we saw, gave the idea of immensely bright and super modern rooms but ours felt grey at best. The cleaning is very circumstantial, on the day of our arrival, in the clothing closet we had to clean the floor from dust and hair and came up with an entire chunk of dirt. This is not a cheap place and for the money you pay, you are allowed to have certain expectations, otherwise it ends up in a disappointment. The place has so much potential and the size of the room is amazing but it needs a total makeover in my humble opinion. Oh and also, someone from the staff attempted to enter our room without announcing themselves first. That is a first. They did though hear that we were in the room and closed the door again.

We (husband and I) enjoyed our 5 night stay here. The front desk staff were all very nice and helpful. The location of this boutique hotel is great, right in the heart of everything.|We stayed in Rm. 304 which was spacious and comfortable. However, the room got a bit stuffy (A/C is shut off until later in Spring) for sleeping so we opened the windows which allowed all the street noise in. We could hear loud voices and drunken shouts all night long but using the 'white noise' app on my phone drowned most of it out so we could sleep. Ear plugs are provided in the room as well. |Other than that we're glad to have selected this hotel which was highly recommended by our daughter and son-in-law who had visited just a few months prior.

Almost a perfect stay! Great location, great rooms, comfortable beds, strong wifi, Air Conditioning. This wasn’t a typical “old” European hotel with tiny rooms and old finishings! If in Nice again, we would definitely stay here. A few small issues (not all the lights worked, we couldn’t figure out one of the showers, and the coffee machine might have been broken) but we didn’t complain so they didn’t get a chance to help….none of those were a big deal considering how happy we were with the place! They do offer an in-room breakfast, which was easy to order and arrived on time, but wasn’t that great. If you have time, go to any of the local restaurants instead - lots of good breakfast options in easy walking distance

While the location is fabulous if you want to stay in Old Town, the rooms are tired and in need of an update. Do not stay here if you are a light sleeper or have a hard time falling asleep. You will either hear street noise from the courtyard below or from guests staying above you There is noise at all hours of the late evening into early morning hours of 2:30-3:00 am. While staff was helpful with booking transport, I’m disappointed to be charged 6 euros for salted almonds from the mini bar (mind you - we ate nothing from the mini bar nor drank anything). It makes no sense to eat the ridiculous amount of mini bar snacks to charge you when you are just feet from a store and restaurants. Who eats overpriced mini bar snacks from a hotel? This charge will be disputed but warning all who stay to take photos and document what is there upon arrival and departure since apparently housekeeping staff provided the information. Perhaps they wanted a snack for themselves. So many better hotels to stay at that are much quieter and honest.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at Hotel Palais Saleya during our honeymoon in the South of France. It's a cute and quaint little hotel located in the heart of Old Nice. I love that it's located next to many little streets with a variety of shops, bakeries, and restaurants. When exploring the surrounding streets of this hotel, I was able to get truffles/truffle oil, French soap, French baguettes, and French pastries. It's also just a quick 5 minute walk to the water. It's also a quick 20-25 minute walk to the train station in case you want to travel to Monte Carlo. Now onto the hotel itself. The staff is friendly and speak English well. The room itself that we stayed in was a two-story suite. On the first floor was the bed, bathroom, a small kitchenette with dining table, and washer/dryer. The top floor was a second bed. The only negatives I can think of was there were quite a few small mosquito-looking bugs flying around in our room and the dryer does not work very well. We ended up having to hang dry our laundry because our clothes came out hot but damp still. I would say that the positives outweigh the negatives. Spacious suite, affordable, included useful amenities, and amazing location.

Yelp
This place is as good as it gets. Fantastic location, clean modern rooms and bathrooms, great friendly staff. We had a junior suite that had a mini kitchen and washing machine. They have rooms on the inside courtyard that are very quiet. Would recommend to anyone and would definitely return.
