Hotel Palazzo Ravizza | Best places to stay in Tuscany

"With its quiet yet central location, reassuringly old-fashioned atmosphere and delightful Italianate garden, aristocratic Palazzo Ravizza is a great base from which to explore Siena. Dating from the 18th century and still owned by the noble Ravizza family, it has been welcoming guests since 1922, and retains a nostalgic air, while providing 21st-century comforts. Public spaces and bedrooms are furnished with antiques and artworks, and guests are welcome to play the Steinway in the elegant grand salon. But the real USP is the marvellous formal garden that looks over the open Sienese countryside; a stunning spot for breakfast or a post-sightseeing aperitivo. Anyone looking to extend a visit to Siena beyond a day will struggle to find a more authentic place to stay. " - Nicky Swallow

This is a lovely historic hotel with a gorgeous view and garden! The breakfast provided was very nice and the woman making the espresso & cappuccino’s was wonderful. We had a very large upgraded room which had a garden view & a view of the Tuscan hills beyond. The shower was very large by Italian standards. Every detail in this hotel was so well thought through. We highly recommend this hotel & would jump at the chance to stay again!

Love this hotel! Parking was very straightforward (go to reception first). The walk to downtown is like 5 minutes. The room was spacious and bright. Our view was to the Cathedral, the other side of the hotel viewed Tuscan hills. The best, most underrated part was that our bathroom had a large mirror and a light over the mirror. I’ve been staying in 5 star hotels at vineyards all week and this is the first hotel to (finally!!!) have a well-lit bathroom.

This is an older hotel in terms of structure and interior. So, some may find it charming and others might not like it; although, I am not sure there is much different in the city limits of Siena. We were there for the August Palio, and we had stayed there before and liked it, so we chose it when it showed up on the list of hotels for Palio Tours. We had a deluxe room, more like a mini-suite, and it was very nice. There is a complimentary continental breakfast and a delightful garden in the back with a nice view. Even though it was very hot, the humidity was low, so sitting outside for breakfast or later in the evening was delightful. It is in a good location, away, but not too far, from the city center. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. If we go back, we will stay there again. As is very common in Italy, beware that they turn down the AC during the day, but it was back on in time to sleep comfortably. If I had to complain about something it is that there are no plugs right next to the bed, so you can't charge your phone overnight and still have it next to you.

This very old, but gorgeous hotel is inside the medival city of Siena.| Our room was spacious and beautiful. The terrace gardens in back are an amazing way to end your day with wine overlooking the city and sunset. | Breakfast was plentiful and the settings, either inside or out, were both breathtaking. | Restaurants and a market are minutes away by foot. It really was the perfect spot for our visit.

We enjoyed our time here. Our room was large and had a great view of the countryside. Air conditioning worked well. It's walkable to a lot of places (be prepared for hill walking though) Breakfast was nice with enough options. Staff were helpful. You can't beat the location with your own outside areas to sit (bring your mosquito repellant though!)

Absolutely lovely hotel. The room was very spacious and beautiful and bathroom had very good quality toiletries. The breakfast is really good, and the possibility to eat it in a private garden makes it even better ( the garden is absolutely amazing). The private parking lot makes it perfect if you drive. We were very happy with everything. One little minus is the level of noise. The building is old, so these the ceiling/floor is absolutely not soundproof of course. We heard every step, every loud conversations/laugh, every moving bags/things etc. If you have problems with sleep, it can be disturbing during nighs. This is absolutely not the hotels fault, this is the price you pay to live in the historical building.

We stayed here for our wedding in Siena recently and had a really wonderful experience. The hotel is beautiful and the gardens are stunning. The staff were nice and helpful. The breakfast and coffee served in the morning was delicious and probably the best coffees we had while in Italy.

Our stay was fantastic!!! This hotel is super well located in the center of Siena and at the same time is very quiet to rest. The garden is a great place to watch the sunset and have breakfast in the morning outdoors.... All the hotel staff is charming for their good treatment and availability and especially “Francesca”, who was very patient with us. The rooms are spectacular and with a lot of quality in the details. We will come back on our next trip to Tuscany...

Yelp
This hotel is great! The room was spacious and overlooked their beautiful garden. It was very clean and well kept. My wife and I stayed for three nights while in Siena. They had a lovely continental breakfast every morning, which we ate in the garden overlooking the incredible view and hillside of the Tuscan landscape. I highly recommend this hotel over something that lacks the views.

Yelp
Just amazing! Our room looked out over the garden and the hills beyond Siena and it was as if we were looking out at a painting. The room itself was just beautiful with a lovely bathroom. The staff were super friendly and the whole experience just first rate. The hotel is convenient to all the attractions, great restaurants and also a nice little supermarket. They have an electric kettle and instant coffee in the room as well as a fridge. It was so nice to be able to enjoy a coffee before heading out for the day. They do offer parking for 10 Euros a day, and clear instructions on how to get in and out of the City without getting fined! Remember, the City center is a no drive area for non residents. Just do as the hotel indicates and you will be fine. The other recommendation is to book directly, they assured me they charge less than going through Booking or Expedia and will also discount if you pay in cash.

Yelp
Palazzo Ravizza, in the Pantera Contrada of Siena, is our long-time hotel choice for our stays in the city...there is no need for any other. Always highly recommended! A lovely, well-appointed building, uniquely-decorated (but nonetheless modern) rooms, and a secluded and peaceful back garden. Actually a real "palazzo", with each guest room a little artistic treasure on its own. The hotel is located within the old city walls, and lies a short walk from the Duomo and the Piazza del Campo, as well as other attractions and restaurants. The delicious breakfast, and delightful service staff, always gets the day off to the right start. The hotel also has its own parking lot (a real plus), which is easy to find once through Porta San Marco. Ravizza's hospitality staff are cordial, endlessly helpful and very attentive. We recently stayed there over Christmas, and they went out of their way to make us feel like we were among family (even though we felt guilty we were taking them away from theirs. )

Yelp
I absolutely LOVED this hotel and everything about Siena. We stayed in a 3-room suite to up the ante for our honeymoon. The view was surreal - straight out of Under the Tuscan Sun. We had a view of the countryside of Siena - with it's rolling hills and old brick buildings. Our room was fit for royalty - it had a living room with a TV and desk, then the master bedroom, and a HUGE bathroom with a bidet, hot tub and shower. The hotel also has a wonderful rock garden area where you can eat your breakfast (comes for free with your hotel stay) with the same extraordinary view as we had in our room. You can also drink wine in their garden/patio area when the sun sets. I don't know how to describe it besides breathtaking. Their house wines are also very affordable and they have 2 types of beer - around 3-6 Euros per glass/bottle if I remember correctly. Their breakfast was fantastic - fresh mozarella, salami, bologni, a selection of cereals and pastries (chocolate croissants, croissants, grain breads, etc.) and an automatic coffee machine (choose the mochacchino!) Lastly, I can't forget to mention their staff. It felt like they only had 3 staff members who worked way too hard! I can't remember their names, but they were all fantastic and really catered to customer service. There was an older gentleman who gave us his honest advice about the restaurants we wanted to try. He was very kind and patient - tended to every single one of our needs. Then there was another younger male staff member who was part time server in the AM, and general grounds manager/bell boy in the PM. His English was impeccable. My husband and I got to know him a little bit, but he would sit and listen to all the hotel guests ramble on and on about their home country and adventures in Siena while cleaning up our breakfast tables. Oh and we both agreed - he was one of the best looking men in Siena! Who would've guessed? Anyhow, we HIGHLY recommend this hotel - it was our FAVORITE hotel on our honeymoon. It's a short distance away from the town square, and far removed enough so that it's quiet at night. It's also literally a two-minute walk away from one of our favorite restaurants in Siena - GATTO (see my review on that joint).

Yelp
Sumptuous room (suite with King bed and AC) over-looking garden with gorgeous view. The main problem staying here is that you won't want to leave the hotel to explore the wonderful town or nearby wine towns. Sitting in the garden is super relaxing. The hotel is located just a short walk from the Campo. If you like bats, sit in the square at sunset and look up. Although unadvertised, our room had steps up to an upper level containing two additional beds. If we knew this we would have reserved infection instead of two.

Yelp
Feel like staying in an ancient Sienese Palazzo, overlooking some gorgeous Tuscan landscape? We recently made a last minute booking and were treated to a spectacular room overlooking the garden and the western hills of the city. Our room (No. 6 is worth requesting!) was palatial, with frescoes on the celing and three massive windows. Not only that, the tiny staff was hugely energetic and wonderful. The Front Desk clerk was so helpful on the phone and as we arrived in our car. The concierge/valet made wonderful dinner reservations for us. He said he knew the best places in town and he wasn't kidding! I now have new faith in concierges! This place is very special and quite reasonably priced for the rooms and the service.

Yelp
The best! We went to see the Palio in early July. I normally try to stay in a 5 star hotel. A friend recommended this place, which for some reason is rated a 3 star. Because of his recommendation, we gave it a try. It was wonderful. The room was huge and opened up to the garden. The garden was beautiful and overlooked the city. The employees were so nice and helpful. The airlines lost my luggage. The receptionist, Valaria help me track it down. Bed was comfy, room extremely clean. Give this place a try!

Yelp
Really great spot at the top of a Sienese neighborhood. Excellent service, food, and very quaint room. There are many free amenities and the dining room and courtyard are beautiful. Very good value for the cost.

Yelp
Amazing. Best views of the country. Its expensive but worth the extra cost. If you can, get a room with a view. If not. Just go down to the patio and enjoy a glass of wine.

Yelp
Spectacular hotel! The rooms are beautiful, the grounds are spectacular and the service is perfect. Valeria Ligrani at the front desk was wonderful in helping with reservations for restaurants, transportation and making sure that every detail was perfect. All of the staff was great and did everythng possible to make this a great stay. We had the garden room which was huge and walked right out into the garden patio and a view under the Tuscan Sun. We stayed 3 nights and I wish it had been 30 nights! The complementary breakfast was the best I've ever had. Perfect place to stay! I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
We spent two nights and we highly recommend this hotel. Clean, comfortable, updated bathrooms are definitely a plus. Great location and very quite. The breakfast is also delicious.

Yelp
We had the most enjoyable stay at palazzo Ravizza. It's located right in the main town and walking anywhere in town is quite easy from this hotel. Our room, 11, faced the garden and it provided great space and we LOVED the view. The hotel staff are like none other. They only want to ensure you have an exceptional experience and they go out of their way to be accommodating. One of our group had a medical emergency and they made sure they got to the hospital and made them self available to translate to the doctor what the issue was and be the go between due to the language barrier. When they returned from the hospital the staff immediately came over to see if they were OK and to ask if there was anything more they could do for them, truly compassionate and concerned. The breakfast was quite a nice spread with many great choices. The restaurant recommendations were excellent and we had some phenomenal meals based on their guidance. This is a GREAT place to stay while in Siena.
