Hotel Peristil | Best places to stay in Split

"Wake up within the ancient Roman walls of Split’s magnificent stone-paved old town at this homely hideaway. The hotel’s 12 rooms are basic but comfortable and spread over four floors – there’s no lift but staff will help you with your luggage. There are three single rooms, a rare find for lone travellers. Watch locals walking to and from the morning market, while you enjoy a generous cooked-to-order breakfast on the Tiffany restaurant terrace – after dark, it servesDalmatian seafood specialities by candlelight. Expect highly personalised service – ask at reception for local recommendations, transfers and excursions. " - Jane Foster

The Hotel Peristil is a small, quiet, old-fashioned hotel. Sort of a throwback vibe - decor is from an earlier era. The rooms are comfortable if small, fine for what we needed.  There's not a lobby but the courtyard outside was nice for breakfast and to hang out in.  The only disadvantage for us was the lack of an elevator as we had some heavy luggage (we didn't ask for help but probably could have gotten some).  ||The hotel appears to be family run. The staff is small but was responsive, such as providing us with a breakfast box since we had to leave very early. Small size has some limitations -- the night we were the restaurant was closed because the chef was out sick (they made a recommendation on a good restaurant nearby).||As others have said, the location is great. It's actually within the palace. It's also close to the waterfront and was a ten minute walk with luggage to the bus station there. It's not easy to find because it's tucked away - be prepared to hunt for it after going into the palace from the east side. Some comments say that location is all it has, but that depends on your style. It's just not a high-end, high energy  place and that was fine for us.

As a solo traveler spending four nights at this hotel, I can honestly say that words cannot do justice to my experience. Everything about my stay was absolutely fantastic — from the unique setting to the exceptional staff. The location is unbeatable: right in the heart of Split, within the historic walls of the old castle. This makes the hotel not only convenient for exploring the city but also truly special and atmospheric. What stood out even more than the location, however, was the staff. From the manager to the restaurant servers and cleaning team, every single person I encountered was kind, professional, attentive, and genuinely caring. They ensured that every part of my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. A very special mention must go to Vladimir, the hotel manager. He is truly one of the kindest and most genuine individuals I have met in my travels. Calm, gracious, and incredibly thoughtful, he went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed. Anything I asked for was arranged within hours — including laundry and other requests. Each morning and evening, Vladimir personally checked in to ensure I was comfortable. Because I often left early for excursions, he thoughtfully prepared a bag with sandwiches, fruit, and snacks to take with me — a small but incredibly meaningful gesture that showed how much he cares about guests. This level of care and attention made me feel not just like a hotel guest, but truly welcomed and looked after. It is rare to encounter such professionalism combined with genuine kindness. I highly and wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Split. The location, the historic charm, and above all, the people — especially Vladimir — made this one of the best hotel experiences of my life. I will always be grateful for the hospitality and warmth I received here.

This is a nice, quaint boutique hotel with excellent service. It is locally owned and operated, which creates a nice family atmosphere for the guests. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The breakfast is very good! The staff are all welcoming and kind. The location is the absolute best! We walked to all the attractions, restaurants, and shops in Split! Definitely recommended!

While we were happy with the room itself - plenty of space, clean, and nice to be within the palace walls, we had a very hard time sleeping in this hotel. The AC was not strong and there was live music about a block away that was going until 1 in the morning. We like to sleep early, so this was not good for us as it kept us up.
