Everything -other than the decor- is really, really bad.
We decided to stay at a nice hotel for a long weekend. I wish we'd literally chosen any other hotel in the area (there's a Marriott across the street and loads of other hotels within walking distance.)
First off, the hotel is *saving money* by refusing to clean your room for stays of shorter than 5 nights. So for the $200+ price, a couple will get upon check-in:
-a tiny bottle each of shampoo, body wash and lotion, plus 2 tiny soaps.
-a room that is clean, but with rust stains on the floor, a left-up toilet seat and the tub shower sprayer left un-hooked and just lying on the bottom of the tub (it's a secure hook, so it couldn't have just fallen.)
-no coffee, but you do get some bottled water,
-no extra blankets or safes in the room.
-a temp control that will not allow the room to get warmer than 68, even though there is only a thin sheet and comforter.
We were on the 15th floor of a large hotel, and though there were 3 elevators, only 2 seemed to work, so there was always a long wait to get to or from our room. If we'd been on the 6th floor or below, we'd have just taken the stairs, but the 15th floor is a bit much.
The hotel bar is weirdly "reservations only" so we did not try it out, but we did try the restaurant. It should have been a red flag that it was almost deserted on a Saturday night, but we tried it anyway and got really crappy food. Cioppino was more of a thin soup with seafood than a stew and the tuna salad had *the* driest fish I have ever tasted. It was like it was left in the oven to roast for hours.
The valets never took less than 10 minutes, but usually more like 15-25, no matter the time. (And you can't get your car yourself because insurance.)
Oh, and don't forget anything because there's no kiosk to get toothpaste, etc.
