"A welcoming mountain hotel with a focus on sustainability is the setting for this bright and lively restaurant which, at lunchtime, serves local traditional dishes inspired by the recipes of Marija Plesnika, who cooked here in the 1940s. In the evening, on the other hand, guests are served a tasting menu which is available only by booking ahead for anyone not staying at the hotel. In the kitchen, experienced Janez Bratovž, renowned for his work at the JB Restavracija in Ljubljana, is here in an advisory role, while the talented young Tom Čopar who has experience both in Slovenia and abroad is the resident chef. We particularly enjoyed the Štruklji (dumplings) filled with cheese and lovage (the latter is sourced from the hotel’s own garden)." - Michelin Inspector

We stayed one night at Hotel Plesnik and it was a truly memorable experience. The hotel is a bit hard to find, but once you arrive, the scenery is absolutely breathtaking—surrounded by mountains and nature. We booked a balcony room, and waking up to that view was just incredible. The hotel is on the pricier side, but the peaceful environment and quality of the facilities make it worth it. The wellness area was a highlight, with an outdoor natural pool, sauna, and a great place to relax after a long day. Food-wise, breakfast was good with fresh options, but dinner took a really long time to be served. We were honestly a bit surprised by how slow it was 😂. Still, staff were friendly and the atmosphere was cozy. Overall, it’s a beautiful escape into nature—perfect for a quiet getaway if you don’t mind the remote location and higher price.

This review is strictly for dinner. We went into this one with high hopes, having read they were awarded a Michelin star. What was to follow was complete mediocrity. Dishes were clearly under seasoned as a rule. The roast beef was served on a waffle completely dry and lifeless. The onions braised in beer served with onion foam oddly have only a faint hint of onion. This was a very one dimensional dish that just came across bland. My wife had the fish which was admittedly the best thing served. My pork loin has the consistency of jerky, as you can see from the picture. It was tough, stringy, and again, lacking in any real flavor. Dessert was a passable carrot cake that wasn't special in any particular way. Overall the meal was a 2/5 and left is shocked this place has been rated as highly as it has been in the past. Would recommend to avoid.

Incredible experience. We stayed here for our honeymoon in late April and cannot recommend it enough.||The wellness center is incredibly relaxing, with gorgeous views and excellent massage options. ||The hotel is situated near many scenic hikes within walking distance and the staff was immensely helpful in helping us navigate towards them. ||Finally.. the FOOD. We did the half-board option, which gave us breakfast, a small soup/salad lunch and a 4 course dinner, and I cannot rave enough about it. Everything was made from scratch and incredibly delicious. Additionally, we did the optional fine dining experience which has been open for about a month of writing this. The food was Michelin-star level, with 11 courses of local food presented in novel ways which was, above all, delicious. Our server was also incredibly nice and explained the dishes well.||Overall, we were extremely pleased with the experience and would come back again.

The spa area and location is what makes this hotel so special. The whirlpool is fantastic. The rooms are a bit musky and if you are unfortunate to stay on the front side of the hotel you are bombarded with noise from the kitchen staff (cars pulling up, humans, clanking of who knows what) during every meal) which really takes away from the relaxation. The food must be pre-ordered and and is okay, but not fantastic. The rooms do not have air condition so if you come in the summer remember to book a room not on the front otherwise you will be woken/kept up by the noise and cigarette smoke coming in through the window.

Great hotel at a wonderful location. Stayed here for one night, diner and breakfast included. Compared to other reviews, no complaints here about the food. Don’t forget to spend some time at the pool and wellness. 2 negative points: Had to wait over 20min to check in. Only one person at the reception and he was on the phone the whole time. I dont speak slovenian so cant judge about what the call was ofcourse. Biggest negative was the lack of airco. We slept with open windows but its not enough to cool down the room during hot summerdays/nights. Overall i would certainly come back to Plesnik if i’m back in Slovenia again!

This was easily the best stay - the location was stunning, the room was clean, and the hospitality including the wellness centre was next level. The breakfast buffet had the best housemade butter I'd ever had in my life

We had an incredible stay at Hotel Plesnik—absolutely a 5-star experience from start to finish. The level of service was exceptional, and every staff member we encountered made us feel genuinely welcome. A special thank you to Matej, who went above and beyond during our fine dining experience. His thoughtful attention to detail, warmth, and extensive knowledge made the evening unforgettable. He also provided wonderful recommendations for our upcoming time in the wine country, which we truly appreciated. Jonas and Milos also stood out for their exceptional service and kindness throughout our stay. Their friendly and professional demeanor added so much to the overall experience. The spa area was a true highlight—especially the whirlpool and the serene relaxation area. We also enjoyed fantastic massages that left us feeling completely rejuvenated. Our room was spacious, modern, and beautifully designed, with a bed that was incredibly comfortable. It was the perfect retreat after long days of exploring. We loved the complimentary breakfast, the rental bikes that made it easy to explore the valley, and the dining specials that showcased local flavors and ingredients. Hotel Plesnik is a gem—peaceful, luxurious, and surrounded by nature. We can’t wait to return!
