"From the heights of the town, this fine hotel dating from the 1930s broadcasts a non-stop resounding tribute to the electro-magnetic waves and the triode vacuum tube that made possible the invention of the talkies and the wireless. Its trendy Art Deco decor has as much impact as it did on the day it opened, with its mosaic flooring, its decorative wrought iron and marriage of glass and mirrors. In the kitchen, chef Wilfrid Chaplain mixes the frequencies of his native Normandy and of his adopted region, Auvergne, a source of gentle, little-known harmonies. Technically proficient, he creates an ambitious, subtle and delicate cuisine that delights the taste buds: Charolais beef, raviolo of confit beef cheek, red wine aromatic jus; monkfish and watercress jus; mackerel marinated in lime, ash-baked celeriac. As for the platter of Auvergne cheeses, it creates a buzz all of its own." - Michelin Inspector

"Hôtel Radio, in Chamalières, is best known for the Michelin-starred restaurant of the same name, but this boutique hotel is more than just a place to lay your head after dinner. Built in 1930, the Radio is all Art Deco glamour, from its wrought-iron arched doorway to the decorative mosaic floors. Guest rooms are simple and modern, furnished in a monochromatic palette with colorful accents; some have separate seating areas. The stylish continental breakfast, with its fresh-squeezed juices, homemade jams, and traditional pastries, is nothing short of what you’d expect of a place sought out by foodies on their way through Clermont-Ferrand." - Tablet Hotels

A must for any fans of Art Deco! Excellent family owned & run hotel, with a Michekin-starred restaurant. Wonderful welcome, super staff, & food to die for.

Horrible room, very noisy till 1am. Bathroom smells. Nice breakfast and polite staff can’t fix it. Definitely not 3 stars hotel. Absolutely overpriced.

Very stylish hall with art deco elements. However state of the room we booked, was disappointing. Old and in urgent need of renovation.

This hotel, steeped in history, has undergone extensive renovations over the years. While the rooms may feel a bit dated, the management makes a commendable effort to keep everything in good condition. Inside this old establishment, you’ll find historical features, notably the antique elevator. This small, manually operated lift is so compact that it can accommodate only two large suitcases at a time. And it's funny that we have to carry walk up the stairs to the second floor to collect our luggage. The locks on the doors are traditional, requiring old-fashioned keys instead of modern key cards. While this might lack convenience, it adds a certain charm that we appreciated. We chose to embrace the hotel's history rather than complain about its quirks. Despite its age, the hotel is well-maintained, with clean rooms and bathrooms. Located just outside Clermont-Ferrand, the hotel is adjacent to the Royatonic thermal spa center. The staff were incredibly kind, even offering to let us use our own towels for the spa, helping us save on rental fees. Some of the hotel staff are older, yet they remain polite, efficient, and helpful. We observed them working in the restaurant late at night and then again in the morning, diligently cleaning and assisting in the kitchen. Overall, this hotel is a delightful choice for those wanting to experience the essence of a historical city. I highly recommend trying their Michelin-starred restaurant as well! 😋

The restaurant had been suggested to us, and sadlyit was rather a let down. To be clear the food is good but most dishes where rather cold when served, for the life of me I don't understand why the plates aren't heated to keep the food at the correct temperature. But my biggest grip was how noisy the room quickly becomes even with a few clients there, no idea who designed the main room but I was able to hear people at the other side of the room cleared them the people I had invited for the experience. a bit of a shame, with a few tweaks there and there I'm sure it could have been a great experience.

We love the art deco style and the friendly staff. For a first we had a room that looked towards the Puy-de-Dome. The main bedroom was very good. The bathroom had most of the right things but in the wrong place. The holder for the shower head was limp and so directed most of the water back onto the wall. Needs a bit of attention to detail.

Baffled by the good reviews for this hotel - maybe when the restaurant is open it makes a massive difference, but I would seriously recommend avoiding on a Sunday and Monday when it is closed. The hotel has poor to non-existent facilities, it’s inconveniently located out of town and our room (we paid for the most expensive foolishly) had all the charm of a holiday inn but without anything useful like tea making, iron, etc. All in all thoroughly under-whelming.

Interesting Art Deco building. Private parking. Nice simple rooms. Not sumptuous or special but fine. Michelin starred restaurant. Easy walk to various local restaurants and places of interest. Try the Casino. Friendly staff.
