We did not know what to expect from a “superior room” at Le Clos d'Amboise. Our experience was more than superior though. The room had a beautiful view of the garden with its 100 year old trees and a distant view of the Saint-Hubert Chapel steeple & next to the royal Château at Amboise. A short 5-7 minute walk from the center of the city, we loved the history of the grounds and the many beautiful images, art, and architecture of the place. Clos Lucé, where Leonardo da Vinci spent his last three years, the Royal Château of François 1er, is also a short 5-7 minute walk. We did early morning walks every day. Highly recommend going to the market by the river - Le marché d'Amboise. The water pressure was great. The bath tub comfortable. And the bed easy to sleep on. One of the best things for us was the morning breakfast. In some ways more flavorful than the breakfast we enjoyed in our Paris hotel, the flavors of the Loire Valley come through with fresh fruits, cheeses, and grains. The hams and sausages did not disappoint either. And, the coffee, just right. If you want an elegant, affordable authentic stay, Le Clos d'Amboise is our suggestion.
